TERM 1 PROGRAM ~ 2017 AN INTRODUCTION TO WELDING

Tech, Tea and Tales Coming to Golden Plains in 2017! In 2017, Golden Plains will be the first in Australia to introduce an exciting new program for youth and seniors. Young jobseekers in the Shire will be offered paid employment to teach technology skills to seniors, and to record some of their life stories and experiences. Older people will be invited to participate for free, and will have the opportunity to spend one-on-one time with a friendly younger person over 6 weeks, learning new ways of using technology to enhance their daily lives, and sharing some of their interests and experiences back with the young. The program designed by Lively and Humankind Enterprises in collaboration with local youth and the Golden Plains Shire and participating Community Centres. Meredith Community Centre is one of 4 locations across the Shire where the program will be offered in late February 2017, running over a 6-week period. Do you want some skills to help you find work or continue to a course or apprenticeship. This class is an introductory level course aimed for young people who have left school and deciding on their “next step” You will be someone wanting to start from the beginning and build your skills so you can take on more demanding welding courses and aim towards attaining employment in the industry. You will learn how to safely weld and cut a wide range of metals using the three most widely used welding practices in industry. Each session will be a balance of theory & practical to learn and practice welding techniques to become competent welders. Class will be limited to 3 participants only. Class commencing in Term 2 Date: Tuesday 2nd May for 5 weeks Time: 9.00am to 4.00pm with 1 hour lunch break Cost: $140.00 Workbook & Consumables are included. Students must provide their own workshop clothing that is up to safety standards, i.e. cotton drill long sleeve shirt and trousers or overalls, and leather boots.

BRAINSTORMING YOUR BUSINESS Do you want to start your own business or develop a business idea. In 2 workshops we will help you to brainstorm a business concept, find a business name and start a portfolio of resources to take you to the next step of business planning and preparation or developing a social media strategy and website covered in our longer courses. Do you run a small business and want help or have a business idea for a product or service and run a business from home. This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to plan, set up and operate your home based business. This course will mainly be run in a face to face classroom with resources and activities also provided online.

The Chain of Survival and 4 Steps for Life Plus are two education programs that focus on building the capacity and willingness of Victorian’s to recognise a medical emergency, call Triple Zero (000), perform CPR and use an AED. The Chain of Survival is a 45 minute interactive session we will deliver to any interested community members or groups in term 1 FREE of charge. Please phone for more details

Kerrie doesn’t profess to know it all, but has learnt heaps over the years to the ins and outs of backyard chooks keeping. Tai Chi is a moving form of meditation, with a low impact on the body that helps to maintain a healthy body and mind. Each class is structured to ease the participant through particular movements. Participants of varying ages and abilities are encouraged to learn at their own pace, gaining greater strength and balance. The advanced class with Patricia shows you advanced moves in Tai Chi that help with your physical and mental-well being. Desma’s and Sandra’s classes introduce you to the moves that help you learn to control your breathing and improve your well-being.

STEADY FEET IN MEREDITH at the Meredith Community Centre We welcome back Steady Feet for 2017 Wednesday 1st February until Wednesday 28th June. 9.30-10.30am (45 minutes to 1 hour of exercises) 4 Russell Street, Meredith-In the studio $5.00 per session Steady Feet is a program designed for older adults to reduce the risk of falls by performing exercises to challenge the balance systems and to increase strength and flexibility of the lower limb muscles. The program will consist of weekly sessions (including a pre-test session and a post-test session excluding school and public holidays). Each session, conducted by qualified exercise professionals, will run for approximately one hour, incorporating an exercise component and an opportunity to socialise and have a cup of tea or coffee afterwards. Before commencing the program all participants will require a signed medical check by their Doctor within the last 12 months.

Occasional Care We have experienced and qualified childcare educators committed to providing a quality service in a warm friendly environment. Our program is designed to meet the individual needs of your child and the needs of the group. We welcome you to come and visit the Centre and talk to our staff. Monday-9.15-1.45pm Tuesday–9.15-12.15 (Pending): Thursday 9.15 to 1.45 5 Hour sessions—Wednesday and Friday 9.15 to 2.15 (Pending) After Kinder care session Mon, Tue Thurs 2.00 to 3.15. Children will be either taken over to the Primary School by our educator to join the after school program at 3.15 or to catch a bus. You can also collect your kinder and school aged child at the same time. The service is registered with DET so that you can access the Childcare Benefit and Childcare Rebate, which assists in making care in our Centre affordable. ENROLMENT INFORMATION The Meredith Community Centre aim to provide activities to suit a range of tastes and interests. Sometimes if we do not have sufficient enrolments to cover our costs we may not be able to run and advertised class. COURSE FEES All ACFE classes are in line with the Ministerial Fees and Charges Policy. Additional Course amenity fees may apply.

Various fun activities are organised over the term for the children. This is a great way to meet other parents and children in the community. Contact the Centre for further information.

ROOM HIRE

The Community Centre has rooms to hire for group meetings as well as for training purposes. Great local facilities at Reasonable rates.
