TERM 4 PROGRAM ~ 2014 “Once Upon a Shire” Council has received a contribution of funds from Regional Arts Victoria to create a new arts project. This will involve a ‘Living Library’ of artists who all work in a medium integral to the creation of a book. There will be an illustrator, author, papermaker, artistic bookmaker, print maker and Wathaurung traditional storyteller.

Join our workshops at Meredith Community Centre provided by Council as part of this living library. Come along and learn all the artistic skills that go into the creation of a book! These great local artists will facilitate the workshops.

Matt Porter A published author and skilled educator with extensive experience in running writing workshops. His passion is sharing writing tips and activities to look at the funny side and always ask “What if?” To learn a new skill or just experience writing from a unique perspective don’t miss Matt’s FREE Workshop on Saturday 8 November at Meredith 10-12

Andrew Plant An Australian author/illustrator who has illustrated over 50 books, and written and illustrated fifteen, ranging from Early Readers, picture books, secondary education and museum publications. Trained as a zoologist, much of his work has natural history as its subject. He Andrew Plant Mural has presented workshops in Australia and overseas. He has also painted murals in several schools and museums. Andrew will be providing a free 2 hour workshop at Saturday 25 October at Meredith 10-12

Barry Wemyss A skilled ceramic artist, bookbinder and sculptor who resides in Smythesdale. Challenge the way you think about books and learn how you can make a book a wonderful piece of art. Don’t miss Barry’s FREE creative bookmaking workshop on the Saturday 1st of November at Meredith 9.30-12

Drugs/Ice … Do you know what to look for, do you need to know more? Use of methamphetamine, or ice, has reached crisis point in Victoria, especially in regional and Aboriginal communities which are paying the price of addiction. Come along to find out more about this problem and how to deal with it with Leading Senior Constable Greg Kitchen our local policeman. SOCIAL MEDIA FOR BUSINESS Wednesday October 22nd –December 3rd 1.00 to 3.00pm 6 weeks $65 (Tuition $22/resource $43) Social media is a tricky business for small businesses — how do you build a virtual following and engage your audience, without annoying them? This course is an introduction to Social media for small business. We will look at the various platforms and how you can maximise this valuable tool to reach your customers.

FUN FITNESS FOR OVER FIFTIES –Katrina Friday October 10th—December 12th 2-3pm $80 9 weeks In the studio at the Meredith Community Centre. “Strength and fitness” class for focusing on the over 50 age group. Suitable for men and women of all fitness levels and abilities and will benefit those with health conditions, including osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes and chronic heart disease. All classes are supervised by a qualified and experienced trainer, specialising in the needs of older adults.

The movements have a low impact on the body and help to maintain a healthy body and mind. Each class is structured to ease the participant through particular movements. Participants of varying ages and abilities are encouraged to learn at their own pace, gaining greater strength and balance throughout the classes.

ADVANCED TAI CHI—Patricia In the Meredith Memorial Hall, Meredith. Tuesday October 7th—December 9th 11.30-12.30pm 10 weeks $115 This class shows you advanced moves in Tai Chi that help with your physical and mental-well being.

CREATE A PHOTOBOOK Thursday November 13th 10-12pm $25 In this class Wendy will help you put together a photobook which you can get printed into a beautiful glossy book and also diaries and calendars. OCCASIONAL CARE- RELOCATION Beginning Monday 6th October, Our Occasional Care service will be operating from Meredith Primary School’s Outside School Hours Care Building. This building is located in the school grounds next to the main entrance/Office of the school. To help with this move, Jo and Beck will continue to meet families at the community centre for the first week of term 3. We will walk to the new building together. We will continue to operate from the school until our new Community Hub has been completed. This is anticipated to be around the end of next year. OCCASIONAL CARE Caring staff and a quality program Occasional Care is available for pre 4 year old kinder children at the Community Centre during the school terms.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9:15-12:15pm Our licensed childcare service is registered under the DEECD. We have Federal approval to provide access to the Childcare Benefit and Childcare Rebate which assists in making care in our centre affordable.

OTHER SERVICES BOOK LIBRARY Members are welcome to borrow and swap books and magazines from the library. PUBLIC INTERNET-COMPUTER Internet and computers available for public use on Mon, Wed and Thurs only when qualified staff are in attendance. $2.00 per hour plus a printing charge. COLOR PHOTOCOPYING & FAX: During office hours. LAMINATING This service is available for sizes A3 & A4.

ABC Open Snapped

5000 Poppies Join the Monday Sew N Sew class to make Poppies Monday October 27th 1.30-3pm Australia will commemorate the Anzac Centenary In 2015, there will be a many activities commemorating 100 years since the Anzac Gallipoli landing. Poppies flowered on the battlefields has become a symbol of both great loss in war and hope for those left behind. Learn to knit or crochet, we are planning to have a Poppy making workshop while also contributing to this project. Whether you can already crochet/knit or would like to learn come along and participate. ENROLMENT INFORMATION The Meredith Community Centre aim to provide activities to suit a range of tastes and interests. Sometimes if we do not have sufficient enrolments to cover our costs we may not be able to run and advertised class. COURSE FEES All ACFE classes are in line with the Ministerial Fees and Charges Policy. Additional Course amenity fees may apply.

Saturday November 8th 10.30am to 1.00pm Free introduction to photography workshop Come along to this photography workshop and learn how to take better photos. You will learn the about the rules of composition. Then we will take to the streets to photograph.
