MAKE A SAORI SCARF WORKSHOP

STEADY FEET Are you interested in participating in Steady Feet in Meredith? Steady Feet is a program designed for older adults to reduce the risk of falls by performing exercises to challenge the balance systems and to increase strength and flexibility of the lower limb muscles. This program will include weekly sessions (including a pre-test session and a post-test session) conducted by qualified exercise professionals. It will run for approximately 1½hrs & incorporate exercise and an opportunity to socialise and to receive advice from health professionals on a range of health issues. You will need a signed medical check from your Doctor to participate. Date: Wed 7 October to 25 November (8 weeks) Time: 9.30-10.30am – 45 minutes to 1 hour of exercise with morning tea afterwards Venue: Meredith Community Centre Cost: $5 per session (includes morning tea) If you have more questions or would like to register your interest please contact Jacinta Walsh on phone 5321 1500 or 0458 384 080 .

Join Saori artist Prue Simmons to create your own amazing and unique woven scarf using the Saori loom. Learn this fun and easy Japanese freestyle weaving technique in this 4-hour workshop and enjoy the freedom and creativity to explore different techniques, textures, fibres and have lots of fun along the way! At the end of the session you will have created a gorgeous hand-woven scarf to take home. Suitable for ages 12 and up. Cost: $65 plus materials (charged at 20c/gm). Limit 5 participants. Session includes a 30min break for lunch. Please BYO lunch.

EXPLORING COLOUR Explore the delights of working with polymer clay. This hugely versatile material lends itself to a wide range of effects to make your own unique jewellery. In this class we will show you various techniques including creating colour gradients with skinner blends, techniques for colour mixing and we will also create a mokume gane sheet suitable for creating various pieces of jewellery. This is an addictive, creative and affordable hobby; you will be amazed at what you can create. Cost: $60.00. A requirements list will be provided on registration. Date: Sunday 8th November. The course runs from 10.00 – 3.00 pm with a break for your lunch (BYO).

FLEXIBLE COMPUTERS - Computer help Dates: Wednesday October 21st-December 2nd. 7 weeks Time: 1-3.30pm Cost: $65 (Tuition $22/resource $43) Do you have something specific you want to learn. More about buying online or communicating with family and friends with skype, word processing, spreadsheets presentations or anything else. This is a flexible class where YOU decide what you want to learn. Become confident and comfortable with computers so you can use your skills for work and recreational use.

PERSONAL INTEREST

THE STORY OF MY FAMILY Every family has its own history; the stories of laughter and tears that go to make up who we are and where we came from. This class will assist you in writing, collecting and compiling the events that make your family unique, then turning those tales into a publication that you can share with your loved ones. We will cover how to gather ideas, compile and order them, edit effectively and present your book. No previous writing experience needed, we will adjust for the needs and interests of group members. Dates: Wednesday 18th November—9th December (4 classes) Times: 10.00-12.00pm Cost: $30.00

BEGINNERS' GUIDE TO POETRY From limericks to sonnets, poems provide a rich source of pleasure and inspiration. This group will introduce a variety of funny, moving and exciting poems and develop our understanding of the techniques used by poets to craft these little gems. It doesn't matter if you have no previous knowledge of literature; we will explore poems that are easy to relate to and will open us up to new ideas, while being fun as well. Dates: Wednesday 21st October—11th November (4 classes) Times: 10.00-12.00pm Cost: $20.00

MEREDITH COOKING CLUB IPADS NEXT STEP at MEREDITH Dates: Wednesday October 21st-December 2nd. 7 weeks Time: 1-3pm Cost: $65 (Tuition $22/resource $43) Every time we have this class participants are amazed at all of the things that they had not realised their iPad can do. We explore your iPad in more depth. You can try before you buy using one of our class iPads to help you decide if it is a useful tool for you. Explore operations, trouble shooting and help. Check out books, photos and apps to suit your own interests.

Meredith Cooking club held monthly on Wednesday evenings, from 6pm. Finishing times will vary depending on the program. Due to kitchen sizes, numbers will be limited. Bookings for each of event along with a deposit will be required to secure your place. Amounts will vary and be dependant on requirements of the event. HEALTH AND WELL-BEING TAI CHI

FUN AND FITNESS

Tai Chi is a moving form of meditation. The movements have a low impact on the body and help to maintain a healthy body and mind. Each class is structured to ease the participant through particular movements. Participants of varying ages and abilities are encouraged to learn at their own pace, gaining greater strength and balance throughout the classes. The advanced class with Patricia shows you advanced moves in Tai Chi that help with your physical and mental-well being. Desma’s and Sandra’s classes introduce you to the moves that help you learn to control your breathing and improve your well-being.

Intro-Meredith @ Community Centre FUN FITNESS FOR OVER FIFTIES –Katrina Friday October 9th—December 11th 2-3pm $90.00 10 weeks only $10 Casual In the studio at the Meredith Community Centre. “Strength and fitness” class for focusing on the over 50 age group. Suitable for men and women of all fitness levels and abilities and will benefit those with health conditions, including osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes and chronic heart disease. All classes are supervised by a qualified and experienced trainer, specialising in the needs of older adults.

ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES OCCASIONAL CARE We are thrilled that our Occasional Care service is now operating in the new Meredith Community Learning Hub. Occasional care is available for pre 4 year old kinder children during school terms.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9:15-12:15pm The service is registered under the DEECD. We have approval to provide access to the Childcare Benefit and Childcare Rebate which assists in making care in our centre affordable.

Our move has provided extra places, we currently have vacancies so give us a call.

Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Course Date: Wednesday 7th October Location: Bannockburn Cultural Centre, 27 High Street, Bannockburn Time: 6.00pm - 10:00pm Provider: Leisure Networks Cost: $40 Good Sports members, $75 Non-members. The RSA course aims to provide bar staff with the knowledge and awareness necessary to responsibly serve alcohol in licensed premises such as sporting/recreation clubs. MEREDITH PLAYGROUP Held on Thursdays from 10-12pm Various fun activities are organised over the term for the children. This is a great way to meet other parents and children in the community. Contact the Centre for further information. Meets every Thursday from 10.00am to 12.00pm.

OTHER SERVICES LIBRARY Members are welcome to borrow and swap books and magazines from the library. PUBLIC INTERNET-COMPUTER Internet and computers available for public use on Mon, Wed and Thurs only when qualified staff are in attendance. $2.00 per hour plus a printing charge. COLOR PHOTOCOPYING: During office hours. LAMINATING This service is available for sizes A3 & A4. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The Meredith Community Centre acknowledges the ongoing funding and support made available by the State Government of Victoria ( Adult & Community and Further Education (ACFE) and the Department of Health & Human Services.

ENROLMENT INFORMATION The Meredith Community Centre aim to provide activities to suit a range of tastes and interests. Sometimes if we do not have sufficient enrolments to cover our costs we may not be able to run and advertised class. COURSE FEES All ACFE classes are in line with the Ministerial Fees and Charges Policy. Additional Course amenity fees may apply.
