FEATURED ARTISTS

Featured for the month of December, we’re proud to present another in our series of local artists. This particular duo happens to be Kate Endle of children’s book illustration (and many other avenues) fame, and her husband, Chris Ballew, of the bands Caspar Babypants and The Presidents of the United States of America fame.

Kate Endle Born and raised in northeast Ohio, Kate earned a Bachelor of Illustration degree from Columbus College of Art and Design. She has been illustrating professionally for over twenty years, creating art for children’s books, home dÊcor, and paper products. Her current body of work involves acrylic painting on Japanese paper adhered to stretched canvas. Her inspirations include Japanese and Inuit folk art.

Chris Ballew After going to school in New York to be an artist, Chris struggled to find a voice with his visual art and instead turned to making music for many years. Following the influence of Cape Dorset artist, Kenouak Ashevak, in a book about Inuit printmaking, as well as his efforts in meditation and Qigong, Chris revisted his earlier shapes and creatures as they related to breathing, ego management, and states of meditative clarity and joy.
