From MeSee Something you never expect when becoming a parent is just how much the weather will factor into your parenting. As I write this, we’re on snow day number 9,974 and I’m SURE that I was a much better parent back in December. My kid just ate 27 packs of fruit snacks and, honestly, I don’t care if he eats 12 more, as long as I can stay in this chair long enough to finish this letter. I swear, back in December he was eating sliced fruit and homemade, gluten-free protein bars. (Wink!)

Working on this issue has me dreaming of warmer weather, and I can’t wait to greet it with open arms. My kids and I have been drafting up our summer bucket list, and we’re looking forward to dusting off our bikes and enjoying the extra hours of daylight.

John strives to get more youth involved and spread the word about aviation and the local Chapter. With 17 members, the youngest a high school senior, it’s possible there are a number of area school age children who already have an interest in aircraft and flying or may discover they do. Two and a half years ago, John steered the Chapter with a different vision. Among many changes, he started a newsletter, promoted flying with area youth through the Young Eagles program, planned fun events, and joined the Chamber of Commerce. He now strives to educate the entire community about aviation. In addition to a monthly business meeting and a weekly restoration project, the members meet in the Stroudsburg library once a month for a movie night. This spring, a new free program will allow youngsters to build an airplane. Through this initiative, John hopes more students will be made aware of aviation and have an interest in learning about it. You name it, they’ve been here.” The barbecue is held outside the small hangar and begins at noon. Fresh hamburger meat, natural wood charcoal, and even better camaraderie is what makes these gatherings an anticipated event for Chapter members as well as visitors. “Anyone is welcome,” says Mr. Cronin. Donations are appreciated since this helps the Chapter continue hosting events and programs. The barbecue runs through October. On the second Wednesday of every month there is a business meeting in the small hangar, and every Wednesday night from 6:30 to 9 p.m. members work on a project. Initially, we started by teaching them tool safety, basic woodworking skills and other important essentials. Then we will start building the aircraft and we should be ready to start that in May.” The program also helps students learn teamwork, math, and reading plans. It’s helpful if the students have a passion for planes or at least a desire to learn more about them, because these projects are geared toward this specific field. Campers will learn about the incredible diversity of native plants and animals in their natural habitat in “Biodiversity Bash” week. For artsy campers, “Art in Nature” will provide plenty of opportunities for up-cycled and repurposed crafts along with a trip to Luna Parc in New Jersey for inspiration. Discover the magic nature has to offer during “Salamanders and Spells” week, when campers can make their own wands, see rescued native animals in a show by Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, and maybe even meet a real dragon! Campers can learn the essential (and not-so-essential) skills of living in nature, like building shelters, making camouflage, and even using a bow and arrow during “Wild Child Challenge” week. Plus, all of PEEC’s counselors have their own unique talents, skills, and specialties, which they will pass on during “Counselor’s Specialty” week.

PEEC camp runs Monday through Friday, July 1 through August 23, rain or shine, from 9:00 each morning to 4:00 each evening. For an additional charge, transportation is available to and from Milford in the mornings and evenings, and before- and after-camp care is also available as early as 8:00am or as late as 5:00pm. Financial assistance through camperships and grants based on need are available on a first come, first served basis and can cover part of camp tuition. Stephanie Sherman-Barr and Nathan Lanan, the camp directors, as well as the entire PEEC camp staff, are more excited than ever for camp this year! Kindness should never go unnoticed. MeSee is proud to launch the People Who Care campaign, designed to highlight the members of our community who are making a difference and having a positive influence through simple acts of kindness. Whether it’s a neighbor that always looks out for your home, a teacher who goes the extra mile, a healthcare professional that spent extra time caring for your loved one, or a stranger that always brightens your day, the act of caring can leave a significant and lasting impression. We want to hear from you! Do you have someone special in your life that deserves to be recognized for his or her kindness? 1. Tell us your story. Write to us through mail, email or Facebook, and tell us about the special person in your life. In addition to adult submissions, children are encouraged to write to us, too! Tell us your story so we can help you express your gratitude. There are no restrictions on who you can write about - teachers, neighbors, caregivers, doctors, babysitters, mail carriers, etc. If this person has positively impacted your life by showing he or she cares, we want to hear about it. 2. We will reply and gather more information about your story. 3. These stories will be featured in each issue of MeSee as well as on our website. McQuadle: A Dragon Tale Auditions Announcing the 2019 Summer Show, McQuadle: A Dragon Tale by Eddie McPherson. You’ll find tons of silliness packed into this charming comedy that has a little something for everyone and even a nice moral. When he arrives, McQuadle learns that the Queen has lured him there for her own secret purposes, and she doesn’t intend on letting him get back home at all. But McQuadle promised his mother he’d be home for dinner!
