From MeSee Man, the holiday season is coming in HOT! We’re just getting started, and we already feel like we’re behind. While we keep reminding ourselves that we haven’t even made it to Thanksgiving yet, it sure feels like the snowball has already started to roll downhill. Is it because we celebrate Halloween for an entire month and then, BAM, it’s time for Thanksgiving? All we know is that Christmas will be here before we know it. Until then, at least we have that leftover Halloween candy to help us destress. The holiday issue of MeSee is always a fun one to put together. Plus, we get to work on our own holiday shopping lists at the same time. Inside, you’ll find awesome ideas from some of our exceptional local businesses. Soaps, spa treatments, art, and travel - it doesn’t need to be the holidays to appreciate everything our holiday feature has to offer. We also had a chance to check out several local events that will surely put you in the Christmas spirit. Longwood Gardens and Kozier Christmas Village are places your kids are sure to enjoy. If you haven’t already, don’t forget to sign up for the MeSee Kids Club! Indeed, the entire infrastructure at Longwood Gardens now resembles a giant Christmas snowglobe, swathed in wreaths, garlands, and a forest of ornamented evergreens. Encompassing over a thousand acres, the botanical wonderland is a year-round destination that elevates the artistry of horticulture. During the holidays, though, you’ll want to stay on the nice list, as being naughty would make you miss out on tidings of comfort and joy. “Every day at Longwood is beautiful, but Christmas is an extravaganza for the entire family,” declares Patricia Evans, Director of Communications. “Many visitors make the Gardens a seasonal tradition.” It’s easy to see how the yearly custom would take hold, given the timetable of preparation needed to reshape Longwood into the likeness of Currier and Ives. While most of us are soaking up the final rays of summer, an envoy of Santa’s elves abandon their sandcastles in favor of twinkling pageantry. “The outdoor lights begin to go up after Labor Day and are completed in mid-November. The whole
them: a surplus of amaryllis, camellias, and paperwhites whose own color palette is enriched by floating, star-like orbs. But the creative genius behind the Gardens’ masterpieces doesn’t limit itself to timbers with pine boughs. “Longwood reimagines its trees through books, birdhouses, and cut glass. We also have distinctive versions fashioned from plant materials, such as tumbleweed, succulents, and tropical flowers. There are twists at every turn,” enthuses Evans. The most striking of these is a fierce red tide generated by poinsettias. Not simply relegated to filling corners or flanking doorways, this Christmas blossom is tiered to resemble an oversized version of the hoop skirt Cinderella wears to greet Prince Charming. Before long, however, sights and smells meld with sounds. Nutcracker vignettes will sweeten your Gardens stop, with instrumentalists strumming in airy Exhibition Hall. The ballet excerpts are performed amidst a backdrop of festooned foliage, lofty palms, and the original sunken marble floor. Local gospel groups, madrigal singers, and handbell choirs will surely have you grinning from ear to ear.

Sonia’s parents always decorated the windows, the roof, porch and barns with many lights, much to the awe and appreciation of neighbors and friends, but with that one question everything changed. “That next year, we decided to add a display building, ‘Twas the Night before Christmas,” Sonia recalls. “We had a dancing Santa Claus and each of us gave one of our favorite

Each building is adorned with twinkling lights and the sight is festive and ethereal. Many buildings surround the Village’s glowing paths, including barns, gift shops, concessions, a life-size gingerbread house and much more. Christmas Around the World is a special display. Leading up to the building, wooden paintings of children from around the world beckon the visitors inside and signify that Christmas spirit is felt globally. There is plenty to see with all of the returning 35 displays, but the Koziar’s always add something new. This year, the Koziar’s are presenting a museum, which is especially heartfelt for the family. It features a history of the Christmas Village and is located in the Carriage House and holds vintage sleds and sleighs and other nostalgic items from their childhood. Another new addition is the jungle-themed display with many life size animals. “As you meander through the Village, you see parents skipping and singing with their children. It’s a wondrous thing to witness. A customer recently told me it was his 57th year attending. He brought his son, grandson, and mother with him. This is definitely an experience that draws generations of families and allows them to share something special during the holiday season.” The young and young at heart are gathered here making memories and sharing their joy and love of the Christmas season. They’re outdoors, walking, singing, and laughing. Each year, the Koziar’s Christmas Village season comes full circle. “We make many people very happy,” said Sonia. “Our parents’ dream was to spread the Christmas joy. This is such a meaningful tribute and for that we’re forever grateful.” Koziar’s Christmas Village is located at 782 Christmas Village Road, Bernville, PA and is open at night through January 1, 2019. Businesswoman of the Year is a huge accomplishment. What does winning this award mean to you?
Winning the Businesswoman of the Year Award is truly an honor and a huge accomplishment for me. It means that if I can perceive it, I can achieve it. It reminds me that I’ve kept my promises that I will be an entrepreneur who cares about and gives back to my community.
You are very involved in the community and strive to give back. What are some of the causes you are most passionate about?
I am very passionate about the well-being of our children, education, hunger, women’s issues, and the elderly. I work on community events to support each of these causes, including an annual back-toschool supplies giveaway, a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway, Winter Coats for Kids, and providing toiletries for men and women in halfway houses and shelters. This Christmas, I will be giving robes to the elderly in nursing homes, and next spring I will be helping to provide prom attire for high school seniors
You recently established a scholarship fund. What led to the establishment of this fund?
As I said before, I am very passionate about the wellbeing of our children and education. As a mother of two sons, I know how challenging the cost of education can be. I strongly believe that every child deserves the opportunity to achieve an education. I also believe that assisting one child with a textbook will make a difference in that child’s life, future, community, and the world.

step 1! Tell your kids it’s time to make the treat, and then listen to them fight over who gets to do what first. They will immediately grab all the sprinkle bottles and begin dumping them all over your counter. You will then yell and threaten to just forget the whole thing.
Your kids will then start licking the bowl, counter, utensils, and everything else with a trace of brownie batter on it. Cue crazed sugar rush.
step 5! Place your cones in the oven and bake for approximately 25 minutes. I don’t know why or how, but every time I checked my oven

it seemed that my cones were laying on their sides. There is now brownie mix all over my oven. I guess I forgot to check the bottoms of the cones for holes. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

step 7! Break out the icing and sprinkles, and let the sugar rush continue! Cover all burnt spots, cracks, and unappetizing parts with icing, of course! We used various kinds of icing but had most success warming up regular frosting in the microwave and dipping the cones into the bowl. After you dip the cones, your children will then dip themselves in the frosting. Your counters, cabinets, sink, and utensils will now all be coated in green frosting. Use your sprinkles to decorate the trees. Or, should I say, use whatever sprinkles remain after your kids have dumped them on the floor, on the counter, in their mouths, etc.
step 8! Spend 5 hours cleaning up. Enjoy! Or throw them in the trash can.

what is your favorite thing to do as a family?
While the sight of green and gold may hurt your eyes (were you hoping for midnight green and silver?) don't turn the page! You might not be a fan of the Packers but you'll love this local family's football tradition. Brad became a Packer’s fan as a kid, while living in Wisconsin, with a long family line of Packer fans. Stephanie married into it, Blaze was born into it, and the dogs (Apollo & Creed), well they have no choice! Brad and Steph have been to 7 Packers games, including 2 trips to Lambeau. Blaze has also been to 2 Packers games. He even got to high five several of the players, including Jordy Nelson, Martellus Bennett and HaHa Clinton-Dix. If you’re a football fan, you know that all three of these players have since been traded...so he’s not allowed to high five anymore!
MOMMY STEPH I love family snuggle time. Our entire family snuggles and reads books before bedtime, yes even with the dogs! I know it won’t last forever, so I’m enjoying every moment, while it lasts.
DADDY BRAD I love all the annual family adventures we’ve made into traditions like our annual trip to Florida, Christmas in NYC, pumpkin picking at Marshall’s Farm Market and our annual vacation with the Slingers. We love to watch Blaze experience new things and create memories.
BLAZE I like playing games with Daddy and swimming in the pool. (And Mommy reminded me to say snuggle time)!
