Our Letter Let’s be honest. After all, this is a safe place for parents to vent, sympathize and celebrate the joys, swerves and curves of parenthood. Winter is challenging and I hope I’m not the only one who let cabin fever get the best of them at times. Despite my resolutions to be more patient, sometimes my frustrations won. This winter I lost my temper, let my kids watch Trolls a thousand times, even bribed them with treats for just a few minutes of silence. Thankfully we made it through. Now that Spring is finally here no rain or yard full of mud can keep me from sending my kids outside. This issue of MeSee we had the chance to talk to all kinds of talented parents in our area. Balancing work and kids is a never ending struggle and every parent has to find the recipe that works best for his or her family. We chatted with some unique moms who have found a way to combine both - no easy task! With Mother’s Day, Earth Day and Memorial Day in our sights, we have lots of great crafts, recipes and activities for you to share with your little ones. Dads, don’t be afraid to show off your crafting skills - Mother’s Day is the perfect time to teach your kids that Dads know how to use a glue gun too! If you feel more comfortable behind the grill, we have some Memorial Day treats that could use your professional touch. As always, we love to hear from you! Join us for events. Share your ideas, stories and more. You can find us on Facebook or email us anytime at info@meseemag.com. We hope you continue to enjoy MeSee Magazine as much as we enjoy creating it. Now get out and enjoy the sunshine!

THE SHOE THAT GROWS by: Jamie Bowman
PRACTICAL COMPASSION the small things that make a BIG difference
So how did Kenton Lee come up with this brilliant idea? While living in Nairobi, Kenya, Lee witnessed firsthand the struggles that children face when it comes to footwear. After walking beside a girl wearing shoes entirely too small for her feet, Lee was determined to find a solution. After five years of hard work and persistence, The Shoe That Grows was born! These shoes are also easily transported, making the donation process convenient and cost effective. The Shoe That Grows “compresses into itself,” which allows for productive packing. Did you know that 50 pairs of these shoes can fit in ONE standard suitcase without going over the 50-pound weight limit? Wow!
Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” Sure, we all agree, but it’s easy to get caught up in our own lives and forget about

giving back. Often, our day-to-day “problems” make us take for granted how good we really have it. Do you own at least one pair of properly fitting shoes? If so, you’re already living better than many. Over 300 million children worldwide are currently barefoot. Additionally, many children are wearing shoes that no longer fit. While plenty of charitable organizations donate shoes to those in need, the average child outgrows a pair of shoes in just one year. The Shoe That Grows is changing that. Thanks to Kenton Lee, Founder of The Shoe That Grows, one pair of shoes can last up to five years. Unlike the average shoe, The Shoe That Grows easily adjusts to lengthen the shoe five
Are you wondering how you can help? It’s easy! Make a monetary donation - just $15 buys one pair of shoes. Several great fundraising opportunities are also available. Mother’s Day Gifts HANDMADE
I think it’s safe to say that the way to a mother’s heart on Mother’s Day is simple. Mothers wish for their children to be kind to one another for the day. To have them say “please” and “thank you” without being reminded. To have the pile of laundry magically disappear and to be able to actually see the living room floor for a change. Maybe a nap? Maybe a bath? Maybe the chance to watch a movie uninterrupted? Mothers aren’t picky; they’ve come to appreciate the small things. When it’s the small things that matter, keep your Mother’s Day plans simple with gifts from the heart. Here are some handmade Mother’s Day gifts that are so easy even Dad can make them. It’s almost here! Before we know it we’ll be celebrating the last day of school. Summer may be wonderful but as a parent it can feel pretty long without some planned activities. Here are a few other local camps perfect for campers of all ages and interests.
S.T.A.R.S. Summer Camp @ The Shawnee Playhouse For young performers and children interested in imagination and role-playing. The Shawnee Theatrical Arts Resource School (S.T.A.R.S.) offers a channel for a child’s natural gifts of imagination and role-playing. Through theatre arts, children sharpen their creativity, improve their communication skills, gain selfconfidence and learn the importance of teamwork. Above all, children enjoy becoming a part of the magic that they create on the stage. This program offers children an introduction to many aspects of theatre through stage movement, dance, music, art, creative games, role-play and scene study. Camp size is limited, so please register as soon as possible. S.T.A.R.S summer camps reflect the shows produced during the summer season. Young performers will learn about acting, theatre etiquette, terminology, costuming and makeup. The campers will then join the staged production and be in a performance that coincides with the camp that they are in.

Pocono Springs Camp A five-week camp for children of all ages and interests. Families want to provide their children with a full-season summer camp experience, and, more than ever, they also need time and flexibility for family activities, specialty camps, and other summer fun outside of camp. Pocono Springs is a family of its own and recognizes the importance of family and leisure time over the summer. The 5-week session allows for exactly that! Pocono Springs Camp holds the distinction of America’s only traditional 5-week summer camp, and in five weeks, campers get the best that camp has to offer. Campers can explore many new activities while having the time to invest in developing new skills or improving upon old ones. 7. Remove the foil at this stage, you won't need it since the stick is in and you need to layer. Next comes your raspberry stripe, and so on until the molds are filled. Make sure to freeze each stripe until solid before adding the next. Don;t worry if the stripes are uneven, but do try to clean up any dribbles as you go. I used a popsicle stick to scrape down
