From MeSee Summer is coming, y’all! When I think about summer I like to think of myself basking in the sunshine, on my lawn or on a beach, just relaxing while soaking up the rays. In reality, that never happens - lounging or relaxing in general rarely happens while the sun is still out but let’s focus on the positive. Sunny days and warm weather mean more stuff for kids to do…..outside….where you are less likely to hear them fighting….where they tire themselves out, making bedtime so much easier. Oh summer, your arrival comes at the perfect time. This issue of MeSee is full of our favorite summertime activities. What I have loved most about summer since childhood are the fairs and carnivals that come to town. Our events section is chalked full of great local events to put on your calendar. If you’re looking for get out of town for the weekend, we also have some quick road trip ideas that are guaranteed to be crowd pleasers. We’re having so much fun at our MeSee events and we love to mingle with our fellow parents. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Mini Artist Day and the freezing, rainy Scavenger Hunt - we’re looking forward to many more, minus the cold and rain. As always, we love to hear from you! Join us for events. Share your ideas, stories, and more. You can find us on Facebook or email us anytime at info@meseemag.com. We know that moms and dads have all the secrets and know all the tricks to entertaining kids, so feel free to fill us in on what we need to know! We hope you continue to enjoy MeSee Magazine as much as we enjoy creating it. Now get out and enjoy the sunshine.

INTERVIEW WITH DR. BETH LAUBACH @ BACK 2 HEALTH FAMILY WELLNESS

It's your life... live it in health!

Sweet, honest and sincere. That is how Dr. Beth Laubach’s friends describe her. After meeting her for the first time, I can only agree. At a time when we’re always questioning a person’s motives, Dr. Beth’s genuine passion for helping people build a more positive and healthy life is evident. It is in her office, Back 2 Health Family Wellness, that Dr. Beth and her husband, Dr. Nathan Laubach, are transforming the lives of their patients through chiropractic care, pain management, health, nutrition, overall family wellness, and much more.

they set out to be more than just a Chiropractic practice. With a passion for helping children and families, Dr. Beth completed an extensive post-doctorate Pediatric Certification from the International Pediatric Association with additional training in holistic health management for expecting mothers, chiropractic care during pregnancy, evaluation and treatment of the infant and pediatric spine, wellness-based nutrition, and more. She believes that improving the health of a child in his or her earliest stages of development will improve his or her overall quality of life for a lifetime. Did you know that many of the chronic issues that children face, such as ear infections, colic, asthma, chronic illnesses, digestive troubles, and even behavioral issues, can sometimes be caused by a slight displacement in a developing nervous system? Road Trip!

“Making new memories the old fashioned way” is what Knoebels is all about, and as someone who has visited this amusement park since childhood, I now enjoy making new memories there with children of my own. Voted World’s Best Carousel, Best Food, Second Best Wooden Roller Coaster and more, Knoebels is the perfect spot for your next family adventure. Open daily, now through Labor Day, Knoebels is jam packed with kiddie rides, thrill rides, family rides, games, and attractions. During the summer months you can expect to find kids of all ages joining in on the fun, but we’ll let you in on a little secret - the best time to visit is during the week! During the week you can expect to find smaller lines, payone-price plans, and other weeknight specials, like Bargain Nights or Sundown Specials, weeknight dinner specials, and more. Want to spend the night? With camping close by at Knoebels Park Campground, Lake Glory Campground, and other surrounding campgrounds, camping is a great alternative to making the trek home. Camp sites book up fast so make sure you call ahead or, better yet, visit mid-week when availability is more likely. Even as an adult I still look forward to taking my ride on the Phoenix each year and my kids now do the same. Whether you prefer old wooden coasters or the thrill of looping upside down, Knoebels has something for everyone.

We all scream for ice cream, it’s true! Personally, I enjoy my ice cream all year long but there’s just something about summer that makes you spring for the double scoop. Whether you enjoy your frosty treat after a long baseball game or a dip in the pool, there’s no doubt that life is a little better with cone (or cup) in hand. Vanilla, chocolate, cookies n’ cream. If your love for ice cream has no bounds, then we know a perfect stop on your next family road trip - The Turkey Hill Experience. Spend the day being a Turkey Hill ice cream maker and enjoy interactive exhibits, milk their mechanical cows, get some pics on our vintage milk truck, create your own virtual ice cream flavor, even star in your own Turkey Hill commercial! Oh, and did we mention SAMPLES? Samples, samples and more samples! While you’re there check out the Turkey Hill Taste Lab. Starting with an ice cream base, mix in your flavoring choices, add some of your favorite treats, and become the creator of your own delicious masterpiece. Located in Columbia, PA, The Turkey Hill Experience is approximately 2 hours from Stroudsburg. Continue to explore beautiful Lancaster County during your visit. From farmlands and the Amish to contemporary art and fantastic restaurants, Lancaster has something for all ages. Check out the “Antiques Capital,” picturesque Amish country, the river lands, and downtown. Feel like staying the night? Hershey, PA is right next door! Ice cream and chocolate? At the car wash

Talkin’ about the car wash, My two year old is a very busy guy and finding things to occupy his time can be a difficult task. Most of the toys and/or activities in our house seem to provide entertainment for about 1520 minutes. Torturing a little brother, however, provides 1 to 2 hours of entertainment. Needless to say stumbling upon a toy, activity, appliance, cabinet, stack of Tupperware, etc. that will give me some uninterrupted playtime is like stumbling upon a gold mine. I came across photos of the DIY Carwash on Pinterest and KNEW that it was the perfect activity for my Formula One Tricycle Driver. It

only way it could get any better is if there was an

immediately went to Lowes.

Thanks to Design Mom and the awesome plans she drew up I was able to shop for my parts and get started quickly. Once in progress, I adjusted the plans a bit, as I didn’t think we needed our car wash to be as big as theirs. Since the completion of the car wash, my little guy has spent hours workin’ at the car wash.

2. Drill holes in the 3 ft. pieces. I drilled approximately 16 holes in one piece, 10 in the second piece and 8 in the third. 3. Begin assembling the frame by building the two sides first. Starting with an elbow, insert two of the 2 ½ ft. pieces into each end. 4. Attach a tee piece to one of the 2 ½ ft. pieces then attach another 2 ½ ft. piece on the opposite side of the tee. 5. Put another elbow at the end and then attach another 2 ½ ft. piece to the other end of the elbow. NOTE: One end will not have an elbow. One end will be used for the hose adapter. 6. Add a 2 ½ ft. piece to the center tee. 7. Put elbows on the 2 ½ ft. pieces at either end. 8. Repeat these steps to build the opposite side. 9. After both sides are completed, connect them using the three ft. pieces across the top. Make sure the holes that you drilled are facing the ground. *NOTE: I chose not to glue this together as I wanted to be able to disassemble it later. 10. After completing the frame, shred the shower curtain and tie the strips to the 3 ft. pieces, being careful not to cover the holes. 11. Lastly, tie on the sponges and plug in the hose.

toss!

Shopping for baby showers or children’s birthday parties is always a

challenge. It’s inevitable that the guest of honor will receive the same gift from multiple guests at least once. Which is why I always try to think outside the box. Handmade toys not only save money and can be personalized, but they also make unique gifts. Even if the gift you’re giving is a classic item, like this Tic Tac Toss game, you can create something different with the recipient in mind.

Pocket Full of Whimsy provided the inspiration for this game and I was excited to give it a try. 1. F old your 22”x22” square into thirds and mark a long line creating 3 equal sections. Then rotate and do the same. You should now have 9 equal squares. Lay a long piece of masking tape about 1/2” away from the marker line on both sides giving you a 1” paint line. 2. P aint within the tape lines. Allow to dry and remove tape. 3. N ow paint an “X” on 5 of your 6 x 6 squares and paint and “O” on another 5 of your 6 x 6 squares. Set aside and let dry. 4. P ut right sides of burlap squares together (1 stenciled square and 1 plain square), stitch sides leaving one side open for turning. 5. After turning right side out fill each bag ½ way with dried lentils. 6. Tuck opening in and stitch closed. Continue all the way around the bean bag to create a finished edge.

Your entire registration fee is tax-deductible. For information and online registration, go to www.sprucelake.org/events/specialevents.
