Our Letter Nothing makes you appreciate Fall more than a long, hot summer spent at home with your kids. Don’t get us wrong, we look forward to summer all year but by July we’re exhausted! Cramming all of your favorite activities into 3 months is a lot of hard work. While summer is fun, let’s be honest, the best time to be a parent is now. School is in full swing, pumpkin patches are opening, Fall festivals are beginning and Dunkin Donuts has Pumpkin Donuts again. Happy day! In this issue of MeSee Magazine you can find Fall activities for indoors or outdoors, treats, crafts, and some of our favorite things. It’s hard to believe the holidays are right around the corner but thinking about Thanksgiving gets us pretty excited. Hearing our kids tell us what they are thankful for is a perk of this job. Kids are hilarious…and honest! We’re thankful for all of you! Thank you to all of the parents and non-parents alike who picked up the first issue of MeSee Magazine, liked our Facebook page and gave us your feedback. We are overwhelmed by the response we have received and it just proves that parents need to ride this rollercoaster together. Sharing tips, things to do, funny stories or pictures of your proudest parenting moments can make or break another parent’s day. Enjoy this issue…hopefully with a nice Pumpkin Donut in hand. Don’t forget to join us on Facebook for more fun!

The season may be over for Pocono Raceway, but Tricky and the rest of the team at Pocono are already looking forward to next summer. Did you know that race days aren’t just for the fans anymore? The race track is a fun place for families too. We had the chance to chat with J.J. La Rose, Manager of Marketing & Promotions at Pocono Raceway, who filled

Q A

We know you don’t need to be a race fan to enjoy the festivities at Pocono Raceway on race day, but is it a place to bring your family? Pocono Raceway prides itself on having a family-friendly atmosphere while still providing a little something for everyone else. We have sections of our grandstand reserved specifically for families where alcohol is prohibited. Outside of turn 3, we host the GEICO Family Campground which gives families a camping experience away from the infield.

By: Jamie Bowman

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! No, not fall – football season! In my mind there are four seasons: winter, spring, summer and football. But what do you do when that special someone is dying for a date night? Where can you score a quality meal AND watch the game? Take your main squeeze to The PourHouse for a night of food, football, and fun. (Unless, of course, your significant other is rooting for the opposing team; then you should definitely leave him or her at home.) The PourHouse Neighborhood Bar & Grille, located on Route 390 in Mountainhome, is the place to be this fall. At this family-owned and operated establishment you can always count on running into one of the Pipolos. From a smile at the hostess stand to a friendly face behind the bar, the Pipolo family is hard at work to make your experience at The PourHouse a memorable one.

Whether you’re in the mood for a delicious dinner (hint: order the fajitas) or an adult beverage and appetizers, The PourHouse has you covered. Catch your favorite team on NFL Ticket while you enjoy an ice cold brew. Budweiser & Bud Light specials are available during the game, or try a craft beer on tap. (They have 11!) Be sure to check out the back patio during halftime. Complete with a fire pit, it’s the perfect place to relax on a crisp, autumn evening. But The PourHouse is much more than just a hotspot for football fanatics. Ditch your date on Wednesday for a girls’ night out and $5 martinis. Thursday night is Wing and Sing. With wings at just 50 cents apiece, you’ll want to try all 13 tasty flavors. After you eat, belt out your favorite karaoke tunes in the bar. On Saturdays, treat yourself to a 14oz. slow-roasted prime rib for only $16.95. If you’re out and about late at night, swing in and grab a bite from the Late Night menu, available until midnight. Get in the Halloween spirit with The PourHouse’s Halloween costume party on Saturday October 29th. Over $500 in prizes are up for grabs for the best-dressed participants! Return on Sunday, October 30th for the annual Barrett Township Halloween Parade. Enjoy lunch with a front row seat to the parade as it rolls down Route 390. When date night just isn’t in the cards, bring the whole family along for dinner. With great choices for kids, like personal pizza and mini burgers, your little ones will be begging to go to The PourHouse time after time. Or grab your food and beer to-go; perfect for those of us who prefer to watch the game from the comfort of our own living room. Music and margaritas. Tacos and touchdowns. There’s something for everyone at The PourHouse Neighborhood Bar & Grille. Follow them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to stay up-to-date on events, performers, and food & drink specials. See you on game day!

Football Pizza Pockets Recipe from:Picture the Recipe | picturetherecipe.com • 1 Pack pie crust or pizza crust • Pizza sauce • Pepperoni • Mozzarella Cheese • 1 Egg (beaten with a tbsp of cold water) Roll out your pie crust or pizza dough (I prefer the flakiness of pie crust rather than pizza dough for this recipe). Using a round larger cookie cutter, cut round circles out of the pastry. Then cut them into football shapes. Once you have one, it’s easy to use it as a template and cut the rest out. Re-roll the scraps and cut out as many football shapes as you can. On a football cutout, place a couple pepperoni slices, a piece of mozzarella and a little pizza sauce. Brush a little of the egg wash around the edges and place another football shaped cutout over the stuffing and seal it by pressing down on the edges. Using a fork, crimp the edges around the pizza pocket and make slits in the top to resemble football laces. Brush the tops of the pizza pockets with the egg wash and place them on a baking sheet. Bake at 425°F for about 10-12 minutes.

Buffalo Chicken Bites Recipe from:Sweet Pea’s Kitchen | sweetpeaskitchen.com

Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, combine chicken, cream cheese and hot sauce, cheddar cheese and green onions. Roll a heaping tablespoon of mixture into a 1½-inch ball and place onto a plate or separate baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining mixture. Place flour in a shallow dish. In a second shallow dish, place eggs. In a third shallow dish, Place cornflakes. Dip each chicken ball first into the flour, then the egg and ending with the Corn Flakes. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 to 25 minutes. Serve warm with ranch or blue cheese dressing. Recipe Note: If freezing place the dipped and uncooked chicken balls onto a parchment lined baking sheet and freeze for 15 to 20 minutes. Transfer to a freezer bag and store in the freezer until ready. When ready to bake, place the frozen chicken balls on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake at 350˚F for 25 to 30 minutes, until crispy and golden brown.

"And don't come back! Until I say so."

"You don't scare me!" Your kids will yell as you turn the pages of Go, Away, Big Green Monster by Edward R. Amberley. A favorite in my house, this book teaches kids how to handle fear and just in time for Halloween. As you read through the book the monster grows and becomes scarier and scarier until you finally shout "Go away!" What better way to read this book than with a easily made paper bag monster to shout at throughout the story. Gather up a few supplies and get started.

Making the BIG GREEN MONSTER (and friends!)

What you need: • Brown Lunch Bags

Can also use:

• Paint

• Felt

• Construction Paper

• Pipe Cleaners

• Google Eyes • Hot Glue Gun

Step 1: Paint your paper bag green, flap side up, and let it dry.

Step 2: Cut out yellow circles for the eyes and glue your googley eyes to the center of each. Then, glue your eyes to the flap of the paper bag.

Step 3: Cut out a blue nose and glue between the eyes, extending past the flap.

Step 4: Cut out a semi-circular red mouth from construction paper and glue to the underside of the flap. Then, cut jagged teeth and glue to the red semi-circle.

Step 5: Cut a pipe cleaner in half and bend to make 2 squiggly ears. Glue each ear to the back of the bag so they hang off the edges.

Step 6: Cut out purple straggly hair. We used purple felt but pipe cleaners or construction paper will also work. Glue the hair to the back of the top of the flap. To make some friends, follow the same instructions and let your imagination do the work!

We hope you enjoy. "And don't come back! Until I say so."

1. When working with a blank canvas, like your condo, how do you begin your design process? Do you start with accent pieces? Pick paint colors? Draw up plans?

3. Do you feel that it is important for each room in a house to be complimentary to one another? I don’t necessarily feel like it’s important for every single room in a home to compliment each other, but I do always

homes, but I probably would never feel comfortable living in one myself. Then after I’ve settled on colors, I kind of make up the rest as I go along. And because I get the biggest satisfaction out of doing DIY projects, I always try to fill my rooms with as many DIY projects as possible, whether it’s building a small accent furniture piece, creating artwork, or anything in between.

2. Do all of your projects turn out the way you initially envision them? Or do you feel that the process of working on a project always brings out new ideas and challenges? That depends completely on the project and whether or not I had a definite plan before I even started. Sometimes I can walk into a room and know exactly what it needs to look like when it’s completely decorated. Those projects are the easiest because I simply carry out the vision in my mind, and they generally do look almost exactly like I had envisioned them. Then there are the other projects...the ones where 38 • MeSee Magazine

search online for used furniture? Visit local thrift stores? I start with the big, main pieces of furniture, and I absolutely love shopping for second-hand furniture in consignment stores, thrift stores, garage sales, and estate sales. I don’t do much (if any) shopping online, unless Craigslist can be considered shopping online, and I purchase everything locally. I do enjoy looking at furniture and accessories online at some of the major online stores, but I generally use those sites to get ideas for DIY projects that I do myself, rather than purchasing items from those stores. My least favorite thing is purchasing brand new furniture. There’s just something so lacking, in my opinion, about brand new, out-of-the-box furniture, whether it’s an upholstered item or a case good. I’d always prefer to find something old, vintage, previously-owned, previously-loved, with character and a story behind it...whether I know the story or not. I just love the idea of a piece of furniture having a history.
