lynx ride momentum into new year

Jess Howard has some added responsbility this year, but will continue her role as head coach of the Webster City volleyball team.
Howard is the new athletic and activities director for the Lynx.
This will be her 16th season leading Webster City in volleyball, and she also previously served as head softball coach.
The Lynx are coming off a 22-win campaign in which they also reached the Class 4A regional semifinals.
A number of 2022 seniors will lead the way according to Howard, in Shelby Brim, Fallon Casey, Reese Casey, Abby Gallentine, Joslin Gourley, Livia Kasch, Alley Odland and Sierra Rattenborg.
“We return a lot of players from last year, so we are bringing a lot of experience to the court,” Howard said. “My setters have great court awareness and have been doing a good job of distributing the ball to have a balanced attack at the net.
“We lost two key defensive players from last season, but they did a great job of training our younger players. Defensively, we will be quick and keep the ball up.”
Casey, Kasch, Odland, Gourley, Gallentine, Rattenborg and sophomore Cloe Savitski all return. Casey and Kasch are middle hitters, Odland a defensive specialist and outside hitter, Gallentine a right-side hitter and Rattenborg — who will miss the start of the season with a knee injury — an outside hitter. Savitski is a defensive specialist.
