graduated four runners and our exchange student went back to Germany.”
On the boys side, seniors Landon Grove, Eli Potter, Ben Bailey and Colton Fink are joined by junior Bobby Tapper and sophomore Jagger Ferrie.
Pete Coburn, a junior returning after health issues, and ninth-grader Sam Fink are key newcomers.
“Pete is looking strong and healthy,” Ferrie said. “We would like to improve at each meet and place in the Top-3 at least three times.”
Seniors Doolittle, Grove, Potter, Bailey and Fink will all be captains.
“We call our captains senior leaders and all the seniors take this role,” Bochmann said. “They have a tendency to lead by example.”
Bochmann led the Hawks to a pair of team titles at the Colo-NESCO Invitational and West Marshall Invitational, along with a runner-up at the Heart of Iowa Conference meet. They were also third at the state-qualifier in Panorama as Wagner finished ninth and Miller was 16th overall.
Last year, South Hamilton placed second in the boys standings at the West Marshall Invitational and third at the ColoNESCO Invitational. They were also fourth at the home meet.
Grove finished 15th at the state-qualifier with Potter 18th, Tapper 19th and Coburn 20th.

Johnson, a junior, threw for 184 yards last year, averaging 20 yards per completion. He also had a pair of rushing touchdowns and will have Skartvedt, Prestin Van De Pol and Owen Renaud back to throw to.
Van De Pol saw time in the backfield last year as a sophomore, rushing for 97 yards with two touchdowns, while Blake Harris did as well, adding 53 yards and two TDs as a junior.
Both — along with Landon Greufe, Noah Gunderson, Dylan Oskvig and Brayden Young — return having seen the field a season ago.
Skartvedt was the leading tackler last fall with 55 stops. He’ll be joined on that side of the ball by Van De Pol, Tucker Clabaugh, Jack Moline, Aiden Johnson, Greufe, Gunderson and others as they look to contain opposing offenses.
“Landon Skartvedt returns as a 1,000yard rusher from last year,’’ Coach Skartvedt said. “Tjerdan is more physical at quarterback than a year before.
“Our defensive line is a tough-nosed group.”
South Hamilton forced 10 takeaways a year ago, with Skartvedt picking off three passes. Van Der Pol was the top returner, averaging 15 yards per kickoff return, with Skartvedt posting 13 yards per punt return.
Clabaugh should be back to handle kicking duties after he was 3-for-5 on extra-point attempts and also handled some of the punting responsbilities.
South Hamilton has reached the postseason four times in the past seven years and won 22 of 30 games at home during that stretch. The Hawks will play four home games this fall, hosting South Hardin, West Marshall, Woodward-Granger and South Central Calhoun.
Road dates will feature South Hamilton heading to play Roland-Story, BelmondKlemme, Manson Northwest Webster and Eagle Grove.
Last fall, the Hawks finished 4-5 overall and 3-2 in the district, tied with Woodward-Granger. South Central Calhoun was crowned district champions.
