Perhaps the most striking feature of this band is their Asian-style costumes, despite being a European band. Or maybe the fact that they call themselves the least famous band in the world. Whatever it is, I discovered this band by pure chance and decided to interview them. Let's see what Eve Evangel, their vocalist, told us. By: Alejandro Pérez.
Hello Lolita Komplex! How are you? A pleasure to be able to greet you from so far away. How has all this pandemic been taking you? Hola, we are doing great actually. Nice to meet you. We hadn’t planned any shows and were concentrating on the next album, so being locked up inside without distractions was the best thing that could happen to us. According to your bio, the band was born in 2007, so it's been created for more than 10 years. How did the idea of creating the band come about? When I disbanded my previous band I wanted to do something new. I was very inspired by Japanese counterculture and fashion, so I somehow wanted to incorporate without just copying what Japanese bands were doing. I felt the ‘scene’ has become stale and repetitive and it seemed like a new fresh ‘anything goes’ attitude, almost like punk used to be. Japanese bands at that time were really pushing it. Where does the name of the band come from? I like when things have several layers of meaning, so there is the ‘shock factor’ obviously, but it also refers to Japanese ‘Lolita’ fashion which has nothing to do with the term Lolita. The Japanese just thought it sounds right for this let’s call it ‘rococo doll’ style. And then there’s some level of social criticism to it. Female youth has been idolized by magazines and advertising for years creating this strange unrealistic female ideal and impression that women lose their worth or meaning once they are older. Luckily it has changed a bit in recent years.
What would you say are your main influences? When I grew up the, let’s say, first wave of gothic and post punk was all the rage. Actually it was almost over, so I was always clinging to this ‘bygone era’ in a way and took a lot of inspiration from that and wanted to take it into the ‘modern age’. My first band became one of the locally ‘influential’ bands in the greater German scene, but I didn’t really feel part of that as I was always looking backwards for inspiration. Let’s say the ‘scene’ and I evolved in different directions. So when I said I like metal it was more the hard rock part of it, the Alice Cooper or Guns n Roses and never Iron Maiden or something. In the 90ies I really experienced the rise of industrial metal like Rammstein or Rob Zombie and I really liked the energy of it, but my heart was always with traditional Goth stuff like Fields of the Nephilim, The Sisters o Mercy and such and of course The Cult which is basically where gothic rock and stuff like Billy Idol overlap. I was always interested in where my favorite musicians got their inspiration from so I’m obviously also a massive Doors fan. And also 50ies Rockabilly and that. I think it shows in our music. And I think you can’t really be a rock musician without understanding blues. Who are the current members of the band? Mostly ghosts Researching about you guys I found out that you are originally from Austria. Could you tell us a little bit about the rock scene in that country? Is there a diversity of bands and styles? How to answer that without insulting everyone in Austria? Haha. Well what the hell. Austria is a very special place, special in that it is part of the mentality to be extremely cynical and unsupportive of everyone else in your own country. The probably most famous Austrian musician in recent times, Falco once said ‘they will only love me in Austria one I’m dead’ after he had a worldwide hit abroad. And he was right. Before his death everyone just talked about what a washed up junky loser he is, once he died, streets have been renamed in his honor. When I started in 1994 or so the general reaction was ‘you will never be able to make it in Austria’, so we mostly focused our efforts on Germany. We had our circle of fans but up until recently even bands that had 3000 people at every show elsewhere in Europe could be happy to draw a crowd of 80-100 in Vienna. And there is nothing but Vienna. Of course there is stuff that it successful in mainstream but Austria likes to stick the ‘top 10 of other countries’. The few Austrian musician that are well known are mostly either folk music or target the ‘working class audience’. This probably doesn’t translate well, so I hope you get what I mean. A bit like American country music, singing in local dialects. There hasn’t been a ‘student’ scene up until a few years ago. Now there is one and some bass are pretty popular but they all sound and look the same. We’ve been gone for almost 10 years so a lot of things have changed for the better. I’m just extremely bitter because I knew a lot of bands that would’ve been successful outside of Austria if they had the chance. I guess the internet actually helped many newer bands to ‘break out’ of this mold.
Focusing on the band. A detail that caught my attention about you is the way you dress, since you project an Asian style image. Where did the idea of this Asian style come from? Well we spent a lot of time in Japan, so like I said earlier I liked the idea of incorporating that into our show like David Bowie or KISS used to do. So far the band has 3 albums, being "Escapism" (2019) the most recent one. How was the process of editing and recording it? We always like to improve ourselves and do things a bit differently to see what we can be. How can LKX sound? The first album was recorded in our former bass players shed, for the 2nd one we recorded it in different studios in Austria and Malta. We actually live close to the place where Rammstein recorded Sehnsucht. We actually learned a lot from the guy there. He used to work with a lot of 80ies a 90ies alternative bands but has a great ear for vocal harmonies, so we really pushed it with that. So when we start looking at where to record the 3rd album we figured out that Chris from Lord of the Lost is actually producing at Chameleon Studios in Hamburg. We liked the idea of recording at a place where The Scorpions used to record but also the big names of German Pop-Schlager. What a great mix. At first we just thought of mixing there and sending the files over like we did before, but Chris suggested to come to Hamburg and record everything on location. We just recorded the drums in Austria beforehand.
How many songs does it include? 11...and I had to look that up. We rerecorded one of our oldest songs that we played live during our first shows. Any audio-visual material? Well we did some music videos. How did you promote and promote it? Well we did some music videos. We could’ve done more, but I can’t be arsed to tell everyone on social media that ‘I hope they like it’ and remind everyone to ‘check out my new record’. The label organized some interviews in European magazines and since we did a collaboration with Lord of the Lost that also helped. How was it received in general, both by the public and by the specialized press? I don’t know. Not sure I want to know. Where is it possible to obtain a copy of it? Not sure about Cuba, but it should be everywhere from iTunes to Amazon. We’re happy to ship CDs ourselves if anyone is interested. Just email us directly at lolita@lolitakomplex.net Regarding the band's music. What are the general themes of your songs? Everything. I think it has gotten more personal over the course of the 3 records. We started off quite surreal talking about nightmares and killer puppets, graduated to what a ridiculous
sideshow this superficial world is and ended up at escapism. In the end it’s all bread and circuses. Distraction and delusion. And we hide our intellectual social commentary very well between the lines. Or sometimes we don’t. Please check out King of Bullshit from our ‘Nutcracker’ EP. We never wanted to be a political band or sing about stuff like that, but come on… how you can shut up as an alternative artist when the word is going down the drain. Regarding this 2021. What plans do you have in mind, besides the new album you are working on? So, the album is done. We initially wanted to release it this summer, but without any form of music video that’s a doomed plan, so we wait a bit until we are able to film. Could you tell us something about this new album? In a way it’s way darker but also more personal and maybe. Honest? We dialed the production a bit back and gave the songs more room to breathe. When Chris heard the demos he immediately got it and set up everything so it fits the vibe. He called it a 70ies rock album. But for me there is also some 80ies and 90ies in there mixed with our usual energy. We only recorded on vintage equipment. The energy doesn’t come from low tunes guitars and double bass this time, but is on a more profound level. It’s gonna be 10 songs again, including one absolutely mental cover version. Do you have any tours planned? (Of course, as long as the pandemic allows it). Nothing planned yet. Well Lolita Komplex, this is it. Thank you for your time and wish you the best of luck. “Disrupted Innocence” constituye el debut musical de los madrileños Endernity. A pesar de ser una banda creada en el 2019, sus miembros poseen una destacada trayectoria en anteriores proyectos. Factor sin dudas que ha permitido que nos presenten un disco con una sonoridad potente y con temáticas con las que muchos pueden sentirse muy identificados. Pero dejemos que sea su vocalista y guitarrista Manu Hernández quien nos dé más detalles sobre esta joven banda. Por: Alejandro Pérez. ¡Hola Endernity! ¿Cómo estais? Un placer poder saludarlos. ¿Cómo os ha llevado este lio de la pandemia? Hola y muchas gracias por la entrevista!! Pues parece que hemos elegido una época convulsa para dar vida a nuestro proyecto sí. Aunque en realidad en lo que más nos está afectando en los conciertos en directo. Todo lo demás fue sorteable. De algún modo todo se dilató pero se pudo ir haciendo... la terminación del disco, lanzamiento de singles, video clips, etc. Pero el planteamiento de la gira de hecho aún sigue siendo un quebradero de cabeza. Daremos fechas en España en breve. La banda surge en el 2019, por lo que son apenas unos críos. ¿Cómo surge la idea de crear la banda? La idea inicial era tan sólo pasar un buen rato en el local de ensayo. No queríamos meternos en líos como los que después nos hemos metido... jaja. Surgieron temas que nos gustaron y que pensamos que había que dar a conocer y así comenzó todo. Con lo cual algunos de los músicos iniciales se fueron para dar paso a gente más profesional... digamos la formación actual.
¿Qué influencias musicales destacarían como las principales? Tenemos una edad... así que a todos nos gustan los clásicos... desde Metallica y los Big 4... hasta Maiden, Judas y un muy largo etcétera. También bandas más modernas y de varios subgéneros... desde Alter Bridge o Avenged Sevenfold... a Five Finger Death Punch... Arch Enemy y mil más. ¿Quiénes integran actualmente la banda? Manu Hernández - Voz y guitarra Rodri Aria - Guitarra Israel Santa - Bajo Eric Domínguez - Batería Hablemos sobre “Disrupted Innocence”, el álbum debut de la banda y que saliera a principios de este año. ¿Cómo fue el proceso de edición y grabación? Se grabó en Metal Factory y la declaración del estado de alarma nos pilló en pleno proceso; exactamente el día que terminábamos la parte instrumental y quedarían todas las voces. ¿Cuántos temas trae y sobre que tratan los mismos? Tiene 9 temas. Cada tema se distingue del anterior muchísimo. Hemos huido de ser un grupo cliché y de hacer temas cliché que son una copia del anterior. Hemos flirteado con varios subgéneros. Y las temáticas son historias o reflexiones sobre temas diversos... desde el Alzheimer, pasando por la movilidad reducida, nacer en un entorno marginal, lo insustancial del mundo material donde vivimos, el genocidio nazi o la depresión... etc.
¿Cómo ha sido el trabajo de promoción y difusión del mismo? Pues de la mano de On fire records. Básicamente publicación de singles y video clips, entrevistas, publicación del disco, más entrevistas... Concierto presentación en Madrid... etc. ¿Cómo ha sido recibido el mismo de manera general, tanto por el público como por la prensa especializada? El recibimiento ha sido realmente bueno. Las críticas o reviews del disco han sido todas muy buenas poniéndonos siempre las notas más altas. Nos ven como una banda con proyección internacional. Estamos muy contentos. ¿Dónde se puede obtener copia del mismo? El formato físico en nuestra web www.endernity.es y digital en cualquier parte... spotify, iTunes, Amazon, etc. Antes del lanzamiento de su primer álbum, dieron a conocer 3 videos. ¿Coméntennos un poco sobre estos videos? Esos videos son por orden “Ashes and dust”, “I dream that I can fly” y “Endernity”. Grabar los videos fue divertido pero también complejo debido a la situación de pandemia. Pero finalmente salieron y fueron muy bien recibidos. ¿Se sienten contentos con los mismos? Sí, realmente estan teniendo muchas visualizaciones. ¿Dónde se pueden ver? Están en YouTube. Canal de Endernity... se puede simplemente buscar Endernity en YouTube y todo irá saliendo. Como dije al principio, ustedes aún son una banda joven pero con músicos de experiencia. Sin embargo ya tuvieron su primera experiencia (como banda) en un escenario en la Sala 0 del Palacio de Prensa en Madrid. ¿Coméntennos sobre esa noche? Esa noche fue muy especial por muchos motivos. Primero porque era nuestro concierto presentación y segundo porque inaugurábamos un ciclo de Metal seguro organizado por On fire. Había nervios y excitación. Pero todo salió francamente bien y todos disfrutamos. ¿Cómo os llevaron los nervios? Pues como suele pasar... en cuanto pisamos el escenario se fueron... jaja.
¿Cómo fue la reacción del público? Increíble. La gente tenía ganas de concierto y se notaba. Y aunque estaban sentados con sus mascarillas, la conexión fue brutal. La gente cantaba las canciones y hubo realmente simbiosis entre ellos y nosotros. Fue mágico. Cambiando un poco de tema. Investigando un poco sé que han realizado una colaboración con la Federación Española de Parkinson para donar las ganancias por las descargas del tema “I dream that I can fly”. Una bonita actitud!! ¿Esto es debido a alguna experiencia cercana? La madre de Manu padece Parkinson ya muy avanzado. Se nos ocurrió que era lo mejor y más bonito que podíamos hacer... dar visibilidad al tema y hacer que los enfermos de Parkinson se sientan por un momento mejor. Se trata de una campaña de largo recorrido y el año que viene se donará lo recaudado para que se destine a ayudas a estos pacientes, investigación, etc. La forma más sencilla de colaborar es comprando el tema en Amazon por un euro. Muchas gracias!!! Volviendo a la banda. ¿Qué planes tenéis para los próximos meses, en medio de esta pandemia? ¿Ya tenéis planificadas próximas fechas de shows? Pues precisamente en eso estamos sí. Estamos viendo fechas para conciertos y distintas ciudades en España. Parece que la situación ha mejorado un poco aquí y vamos a intentar diseñar nuestra gira. A la par seguimos publicando nuevos clips en YouTube. Acabamos de publicar “Infinite Hell” muy recientemente. Invitamos a todos a que se den una vuelta por nuestro canal y se suscriban. Directamente desde Galicia y con una extensa trayectoria, a pesar de un parón de casi 6 años, Eco ha sabido renovarse tanto musical como profesionalmente y prueba de esto es “Los Años del Silencio”; el disco que marca su regreso a los escenarios y que ya ha dado mucho de que hablar en gran parte de España. Pero veamos que nos comentó en esta entrevista Roberto Espinosa, cantante y fundador de la banda. Por: Alejandro Pérez.
¡Hola Eco! ¿Cómo estais? ¿Cómo os ha llevado esta pandemia? Un placer poder entrevistarlos Hola. El placer es nuestro , poder hacer una entrevista con un medio de un país hermano como es Cuba nos produce muy buena onda. Tengo entendido que la banda surge en el 2004 y luego de un tiempo vuelven a regresar a los escenarios en el 2010. ¿Cómo nace la idea de crear la banda? Las bandas siempre nacen de la necesidad de expresar algo en forma de música , unos van al psiquiatra , otros hacemos grupos de metal jaja. ¿Bajo que influencias musicales surge la misma? Siempre nos gustaron todas las vertientes del rock así que nuestras influencias son muy variadas,tanto clásicos con grupos emergentes nos inspiran . ¿Podrian presentarnos a los miembros actuales de la banda, ya que supongo la original haya variado? Efectivamente la formación es completamente nueva, en la batería está Pablo Espido , Luis Rivera a la guitarra , Javier Teijido al bajo y yo mismo Roberto Espinosa a la voz. .
Luego de más de 10 años desde la salida de su disco "Réplica", el cual fue toda una sensación en su epoca, ahora nos traen "Los Años del Silencio". ¿Cómo fue el proceso de edición y grabación? El disco se grabó en el verano de 2019 en los Estudios Tercera Planta propiedad de Manuel Ramil ( Warcry,Avalanch,Adventus..) el supervisó todo el proceso a los mandos de la mesa de sonido y posterior mezcla y másterizacion. ¿Cuántos temas trae y sobre que tratan? El disco se compone de diez canciones que hablan básicamente de emociones humanas, cosas que le pueden pasar a cualquiera en cualquier momento. ¿Algún material audiovisual de este disco? Hemos hecho dos videoclips , el primero del tema que da título al disco y el segundo de la canción " Donde Están Ahora " además de un lyric vídeo del tema " Éxodo " los pueden ver tos en nuestra web www.eco-oficial.com o en nuestro canal de YouTube eco-oficial. ¿Cómo han dado a promover y promocionar el mismo? Estamos promocionando el disco con actuaciones en vivo y a través de redes sociales y entrevista tan buenas como esta. ¿Dónde se puede obtener copia del mismo? Volviendo a "Los Años del Silencio". Muchos consideran este nuevo disco como una continuación de "Réplica". ¿Podria catalogarse de esta manera? Efectivamente, es su continuación lógica, con un sonido actualizado a los tiempos que vivimos. Tuve la suerte de escuchar este disco y me gusto mucho la sonoridad que plasmaron en todos los temas. ¿Se podria decir que este disco marca un antes y un después para la banda? Claro, en el hemos afianzado nuestra sonica y nuestra manera particular de contar las cosas ,estamos en permanente evolución y lo hemos demostrado en este disco por ejemplo incorporando teclados que en "Réplica" no había. Sin dudas el disco ha recibido buenas criticas de manera general. ¿Cómo se sienten con esto? ¿Pensaron que el mismo iba a tener tanto éxito? Siempre trabajas con el afán de llegar al gran público y obtener el reconocimiento de la crítica, pero lo que estamos recibiendo supera cualquier expectativa,es un premio a años de trabajo y mimo en todo lo que hemos hecho ,estamos muy agradecidos. En cuanto a la banda. ¿Cuáles son los planes para los proximos meses? ¿Ya teneis planificado próximas presentaciones? Lo próximo es seguir tocando y presentando en vivo este disco , pero también estamos inmersos en un par de proyectos nuevos que aún no podemos desvelar pero que nos producen especial emoción ,pronto podremos hablar de ellos con todos vosotros . Straight from Sweden comes All Wasted, a young band full of energy and desire to take their music wherever they go. Hello All Wasted, how are you? Nice to be able to interview you, how has the pandemic been going for you? Everything is great with us. We eat Covid-19 for breakfast! I understand that the band emerges in 2019 so you have been created for a short time. How did the idea of creating the band come up? Well actually, we had been talking about starting a Death ´n´ Roll-band for quite a while before going on with it. It all came natural after splitting up a former band. Erik, Hcan and Emil already jammed together so we just needed two more dickheads. What are your main influences? Influences goes from 90-rock to punk, to metal core of today. We suck it all in and mash it together, ha-ha... Who are its current members? Members are Emil - Guitar/backing vocals, Erik - Guitar, Patrik - Vocals, Jimmy – Bass and Hcan - Drums. I noticed that you are from Sweden, a country with a variety of rock bands and other styles. Was it very difficult for you to create the band and open up in the Swedish music market? No, not difficult at all. We come from Gothenburg (the mecca of melodic death). This kind of music runs in our veins from birth. Our mothers breast milk have 66, 6% death metal in it … 😊 Anyhow, the Swedish market have been treating us good so far. We are still too young of a band to really know yet.
Last February 26th the band's first album "Burn with Me" was released. How was the process of editing and recording? We have been doing all the recording ourselves. And we have also worked with Jakob Linnér (a friend of ours) at Mudlake studio, who have co-produced and mixed the album. The album has been mastered at Fascination Street Studios by Tony Lingren. How many songs does it include and what are the songs about? We have put 13 songs on the album, and they are all about inner demons and other nonsense … Any audio-visual material? We have three official videos out as we speak. A fourth is coming up, hopefully in time for our physical release. Only on Facebook … How has it been received in general, both by the public and by the specialized press? It has been received very well so far. As mentioned before, we have only promoted it briefly on Facebook. Wormhole Death whom we just started working with are helping us promote it more seriously now, and hopefully that will have an extra effect. Where is a copy of it available? Right now, it´s available on all major digital platforms. The CD-release is scheduled to July 16. 😊 Changing the topic a little bit. Recently the band signed with the prestigious Italian label Wormhole death. How do you feel about this? We are very excited working with WhD. What advantages will you have working with this label? We see nothing but good things about this. Their network is huge, and we would not have the same chance in distributing the physical release without them. Back to the band. What are your plans for the next few months? (Pandemic permitting) Do you have any upcoming shows planned? Still no shows unfortunately. But we will definitely start playing live as soon as we are allowed to. Travel restrictions still make it to hard we think. To kill time, we just write new music. 😊 We’ll All Wasted, that's all. Megadeth despidió a David Ellefson tras darse a conocer una serie de videos y evidencias que pusieron al descubierto la supuesta relación extramarital del bajista con una chica holandesa de 19 años de edad. “Informamos a nuestros fans que David Ellefson no toca más con Megadeth y nos separamos oficialmente de él. No tomamos la decisión a la ligera”, dice la carta publicada en las redes sociales de la banda, “Aunque no sabemos todos los detalles de lo sucedido, la relación entre nosotros ya es suficientemente tensa y lo que ha sido revelado hasta ahora hace imposible que sigamos trabajando juntos.”
