Publisher’s Notes Relax, Your Living In Paradise.

The kids are out of school and it is the ideal time to kick back, recharge and enjoy a little family time. There are plenty of fun ways to beat the heat in METRO’s Summer Guide to Cool. It is the time to get out across the Bay area and discover the city. We’ve included 25 things, from a ferry ride to Caladesi Island to renting an eBoat to travel the Hillsborough River. We dare you to try them all! Costa Rica is a hot spot for travel and METRO discovers the beauty of the country and offers a few recommendations for lodging and activities. In Foodie, it’s time to tantalize the taste buds at two area seafood restaurants — CopperFish in Tampa and Jack Dusty in Sarasota. We’ve also started a special section that will be a part of METRO in the future — METROFamily. In this issue, we feature tips from sleep expert Shari Mezrah, who offers tips on traveling with your children, and meet “momtrepreneur” Amy Lundy who is the founder of the social activities group, Small Fry Society and producer of The Mother of All Baby Showers. Lundy didn’t find the kinds of activities and programs that she was seeking, as a new mom, when she relocated to the Tampa area, so with entrepreneur spirit created her own. While the social scene has certainly cooled a bit, there are still a few ‘must do’ events of the summer. Support the Children’s Dream Fund at the annual Rays On The Runway hosted by the Rays Wives. If you are a Rays fan, don’t miss this event on July 11, where players and wives strut the runway in the latest fashions by penelope t and Tommy Bahama. Also, rounding out July is Martinis for Moffitt on July 20 supporting Moffitt Cancer Center, and Ken Walters’ 16th Annual Celebrate Sinatra with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Straz Center and Florida Orchestra. We will see you there! Enjoy,

Showcasing Latin America By Megan Voeller

This summer the Tampa Museum of Art showcases Latin America with two exhibitions, Miradas: Ancient Roots in Modern and Contemporary Mexican Art, Works from the Bank of America Collection and Faded Elegance: Photographs of Havana by Michael Eastman. Miradas surveys more than 100 paintings, prints and photographs by modern Mexican artists as well as US-born artists of Mexican descent, exploring the themes and theories that unite their works. The exhibition features icons including Diego Rivera (the highly influential muralist and husband to Frida Kahlo) and Rufino Tamayo (a painter who fused Zapotec heritage with an interest in Surrealism) as well as contemporary artists including Judithe Hernandez (an influential Chicana artist based in Los Angeles) and Robert Graham (the noted bronze sculptor, who died in 2008). The exhibition gives shape to ideas that have molded modernism via Mexico — from realism to abstraction, from communal labor to motherhood — in black-and-white photographs, lithographs bursting with color, and other media. The works in Faded Elegance take a single form: large-scale photographs by St. Louis photographer Michael Eastman, who has visited Cuba several times since 1999. The stunning photographs, which measure a whopping 7-1/2 feet tall, document the interiors and exteriors of buildings on the island. In vivid color, they offer poignant glimpses of Cuba’s former prosperity and irrepressible beauty.

Assisi #24, Lynn Manos

Assisi #17, Lynn Manos

Artist Profile: Lynn Manos By Megan Voeller

14

Summer 2013

Nearly every summer, artist Lynn Manos leaves her West Tampa studio and heads to Venice, Italy, for a month to be inspired by the city’s interlacing canals and boat culture. The glimmering surfaces of water and wooden curves of dinghies become the subjects of her figurative oil and acrylic paintings, pastel drawings and prints. This summer, while Manos creates new monoprints at Venice’s Scuola Internazionale di Grafica, Clayton Galleries in South Tampa showcases her paintings during its annual series of group exhibitions: Hot Summer Shows I, II and III. During the steamiest time of the year, viewers may find Manos’s watery landscapes especially refreshing. “If you look at what I do, I have a view that’s on the water,” Manos explains. Both art and a connection with water come naturally. She began making art at the age of five when an encouraging aunt literally allowed Manos to draw on the walls of her home. Twenty-some years later, Manos had explored a career in fashion illustration and given birth to the

first of three children when she decided to earn a graduate degree in printmaking. Ever since, she has made a living as a professional artist and college teacher. Residing in the Midwest for most of her life, Manos spent time around lakes and as a passenger in sailboats — hence the immersive perspective of her on-thewater paintings. A move to Florida in 1999 furthered her affection for the coast, though the subjects of her paintings are drawn from Italy and Greece rather than Tampa Bay. Five years ago, Manos began sailing herself, joining a women’s club on Davis Islands that takes to the water each week. “I’m at a point in my life when I want to keep my brain moving and my body moving,” Manos says. To learn more about Lynn Manos’ work, go to www.lynnmanos.com. Hot Summer Show II runs July 10-August 10 and Hot Summer Show III runs August 14-September 14 at Clayton Galleries, 4105 South MacDill Avenue, Tampa. “ Our city forefathers had the insight to preserve the waterfront ...

Developer Chuck Prather Continues to Re-vitalize St. Petersburg’s Beach Drive By Ronda M. Parag

16

Summer 2013

The hippest and coolest new spot on Beach Drive is the recently opened, The Birchwood, complete with 18 guest rooms, a restaurant, Birch & Vine, on the ground floor, a Grand Ballroom and our favorite — The Canopy. Developed and co-owned by Dr. Kathy and Chuck Prather, the new gem maintains the historic exterior of the former 1920s Grayl’s Hotel with an interior that rivals boutique hotels in New York or South Beach. “The hardest part was the savings of the bones,” said Chuck Prather. “We took the place down, board by board with a hammer and saw,” Prather said. “What normally would have been a one week demolition took three months.” While the original structure was three floors, two additional floors were added including the ballroom and roof top. “Our city forefathers had the insight to preserve the waterfront for all, and I wanted to create a space to allow the public to have the opportunity to gaze out at the Vinoy basin,” said Prather.

www.TampaBayMetro.com

The spectacular roof top view is the ideal spot to relax and re-fresh with a summer cocktail. Wine and Spirits Director, Todd McNulty says the drink menu uses the freshest, local ingredients possible. Two popular favorites include the Asian Mojito made with mint, Bacardi Rum and a mixture of ginger, green tea and simple syrup, and the Strawberry Rhubarb Cooler with mulled strawberries, Hendrix Gin, rhubarb bitters and soda. Both are real thirstquenchers on a hot summer day. Prather, a proud father of seven, says that one of his favorite items on the menu is the Plantain Foster. The sweet dish is an ode to the famed Bern’s Dessert Room where Prather proposed to his wife, Kathy over the Banana’s Foster. The new hotel and restaurant created by yet another local entrepreneur continues to re-vitalize Beach Drive. “It is another chapter offering unique views and another option for dinner or a romantic stay-cation,” said Prather.

The Tides of Summer Have Turned...

1

School’s out, vacation is in! We know that many of you are reading this with your toes in the sand, or the ocean air lapping at your face; well, the summer scene is equally as temperate, and we are here to keep you informed of all of the Tampa Bay happenings. From the golf to greens to the deep blue sea, enjoy your summer fun. Tampa Bay Buccaneer Vincent Jackson may be new to Tampa but to philanthropy, he’s a pro. His inaugural Jackson in Action Celebrity Golf Classic attracted some star power to raise money to support Military Families in need. The two day event turned out celebrity guests who included, Montel Williams, NFL Hall of Famer James Lofton, Mike Alstott, singer/songwriter Matt White, Michael Clayton, Toby Hall,

3

and Martin Gramatica. Also seen at the 19th hole were, Blake Guthrie, Carlos Padilla, Elizabeth Funk, Gregg Williams, Jay Mize, and Rich Mize. Guests made a splash at The Florida Aquarium’s 12th Annual Sea Grapes Fine Wine and Food Festival; chaired by April Diemer, CCO at Creative Recycling Systems, LLC who was also one of the presenting sponsors. The event was held to benefit the Aquarium’s conservation and education programs. Guests sampled food from over 20 Tampa Bay Area restaurants including SideBern’s, AQUA, Irish 31 and Roy’s. There were over 140 different types of wine provided by Bern’s Fine Wine and Spirits for the guests to enjoy, while listening to the smooth

sounds of Roberto DeBourg, the upbeat music of the Frequency Band and the timeless voice of VIP entertainment, Shevonne & 8-1 Trio. Fork Fight came roaring back this year with over 400 guests who attended the soirée at the Marriott Waterside to benefit Feeding America Tampa Bay. Chefs from some of the Bay area's best restaurants served up their finest courses including Chad Johnson from SideBern’s, Ted Dorsey from Boca, Mark Heimann, The Renaissance Vinoy, Sinai Grove and Ai Nakamura from the Marriott Waterside, Marty Blitz of Mise en Place, Anna Granucci of 400 Beach Tap House, Tyson Grant of Parkshore Grill and Curtis Beebe of Pearl in the Grove.

Back at the helm this year was restaurateur Mary Ann Ferenc, who along with Audrey Grounds of Mise en Place coordinated the chefs.

Live Auction items created a furor of bidding, including the package for the new Epicurean Hotel, Bern’s and SideBern’s. General Manager of the Epicurean, Tom Haines, Finance Director, Nan Feng, and myself (full disclosure, I do work for Bern’s when I’m not ‘Scening’) doubled for two packages to raise nearly 11K! A very exciting night as nearly a million meals can now be given to needy families in Tampa Bay. Want to BScene? Email us at bscene@tampabaymetro.com. Find us on Twitter and Instagram @rsbpevents!

16th Annual Bern’s Winefest When: April 19-22, 2013 Where: Bern’s Steak House, SideBern’s, and Bern’s Fine Wines & Spirits The four-day event kicked off on Friday with the Gala Dinner at SideBern’s with wines from Far Niente, Nickel & Nickel, En Route and Dolce. Tom Gilhooly spoke between each of the six-courses about the qualities of each wine. A fun, festive cocktail party was held on Saturday with music and specialty drinks at the Bombay Sapphire Speakeasy. Sunday’s Grand Tasting kicked off for the VIPs with Moet Hennessy 2004 Veuve Clicquot ‘La Grande Dame’ in the spectacularly decorated white and red tent. Two educational seminars provided a learning opportunity. More than 200 wines along with tantalizing bites were available to sip and savor. The wines and culinary creations were arranged by country and paired perfectly. Taking center stage in the main tent was the Dessert Bar created by Executive Pastry Chef Kim Yelvington, featuring handmade chocolates and confections made with Valrhona Chocolate. The exclusive Monday night dinner at Bern’s Steak House closed Winefest with wines from Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aine. Winefest once again benefited The Vincent Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorder Center at All Children’s Hospital, and the silent auction proceeds benefited the Bern Laxer Scholarship Fund. METROHome Tour

Olde World Charm, Filled With Modern Flair. By Mary Lou Janson | Photography by Raif Fluker

When Lorna Taylor was not looking, she discovered the house of her dreams, she just did not realize it at the time. The South Tampa resident first noticed the stately, two-story house while walking her dogs through her tree-shaded neighborhood located near Bayshore Boulevard, a bustling, pedestrian-friendly linear park skirted by the shimmering waters of Tampa Bay. The business executive was struck by the Old World charm of the newly built Spanish-Mediterranean-style home highlighted by striking concrete accents and an elegant, column-framed entryway. Custom-designed for the original owners, a couple who had it built in 2000, Taylor appreciated the home’s architectural lines and aesthetic, and even considered putting a note in the mailbox asking to be contacted if they ever decided to sell. Time passed. Taylor wanted a larger home, and within a week of a new house search, news that the 4,338-square-foot residence was about to be listed triggered a whirlwind of events resulting in Taylor laying claim to her new home and finding a buyer for her former home, all within a 24-hour window. “I loved the bones of this house and the way it is set back from the street. It looked like it had been here forever but the interior had a modern sensibility with a large kitchen, bathrooms and

walk-in closets throughout,” said Taylor, president and CEO of Premier Eye Care, as well as a board member and advocate for community causes like Foundation for the Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture & the Arts, University of Tampa Trustees, Moffitt Cancer Center Physicians Group and Lion’s Eye Institute Eye Foundation. Her introductory tour of the welldesigned, four bedroom, four-and-a-half bath floor plan that includes a paneled library and covered porch overlooking a large backyard, further confirmed that this was where she wanted to live.

Over the next 12 years, Taylor would fill the walls with museum-quality works of art ranging from Pablo Picasso, the Spanish artist and cofounder of Cubism, to such well known Tampa Bay-based artists as Dominique Labauvie and Marlene Rose, custom pieces by architects including an Alison Spear sofa and outdoor table designed on a cocktail napkin by Yann Weymouth. She’s hosted celebrations ranging from formal dinners to New Year’s Eve soirees, and collaborated with Doxa Home to create a distinctive interior design that combines clean lines and modernism with a 1940s

French aesthetic, all set against a calming color palette. And it’s all very pet and guest friendly, an important consideration for her three rescue dogs — George, a border collie mix, Dexter, a Carolina dog, and Gracie, a Lhasa Apso mix — who enjoy relaxing on the tailored, slip-covered furniture. Among the custom changes she made, Taylor updated and created a state-of-the-art kitchen equipped with a six-burner Wolf range, double Wolf ovens and a sub-zero refrigerator/freezer, essential for providing an ideal environment for professional chefs. Guests

have been privileged to enjoy gourmet meals prepared by such nationally, and internationally, known talents as Roy Yamaguchi, Gui Alinat, BT Nyugen and Bryce Whittlesey who have been culinary contributors to the themed parties Taylor hosts for good friends, best-selling authors and acclaimed artists. After more than a decade in her dream dwelling, Taylor is now ready to turn her energies and attention to a new project that will likely begin with an empty lot, and lead to a collaboration with a respected architect who will help her to envision and create the space she now needs for her personal life and professional endeavors. “My work is demanding and my home is my place of calm and respite. I find my flow, so to speak, and get lost in the enjoyment of a project when I am renovating and playing with design,” she said. “For me, this home is complete. I really look forward to a new project.” M

The house is currently listed for sale at $1,599,00 with Stephen Gay and Ed Gunning of Smith & Associates. For additional information, contact Gay at 813-380-4343.

acations should not be missed! This is the best time to spend with your family and it pays to be prepared. If you have a travel plan, you will be able to make the most out of your time together! Babies | It is beneficial to plan travel time around naps or feedings and to feed an awake baby on take-off and landing. This will help your child deal with the altitude changes. If your baby starts to cry, try blowing kisses. The air flow will cause your baby to swallow and make the altitude change easier for them to adapt to. If your baby is a lap-child, bring a pillow for added comfort. Be prepared for diaper changing. Put your baby in an overnight diaper if you are going on a long flight. This will help absorb liquid and keep baby feeling drier and happier. Don’t rely on flight attendants for assistance. They typically are not thrilled to help … and bring a trash bag for used diapers. The people on the plane will “thank you.”

56

Summer 2013

Toddlers/Older Kids | Keep them busy! Create a “Kids Pack” with goodies (books, toys, snacks) in a bag for your kids to play with on the airplane (or car travel). Let the kids pick one item at a time from the pack to play with. You can make your own “Flight Plan.” Create a family schedule in 30 minute increments for a long ride or travel time. Kids love to know a plan, so give them one. It also allows you to not have to think about “what to do next.” Map out your trip on a sheet of paper with days and times and what activities you will be doing during your trip. This visual is especially helpful for older kids (ages 6 and up). Home Sweet Home | When traveling, bring a “a piece of home” with you on your trip. Items from home help re-create your safe, secure environment wherever you go. Take along a sound soother too. This friendly “white noise” will help everyone sleep in a new environment or

at least “drown out the sound of snoring.” Try to make bedtime consistent when you are traveling. On occasion, make a special “late night” for your kids to stay up later as a reward for good behavior. Happy Travels and Sweet Dreams. M

South Tampa Mom Creates Social Scene for New Parents Meet Amy Lundy | By Ronda Parag

I

nspired by the birth of her now nearly two and a half year old daughter, Alexandra, Amy Lundy felt there was a need for the Tampa Bay area to provide a social outlet for new and expectant parents. Finding nothing close to her vision, the former NY marketing executive and event planner, created Small Fry Society, where Lundy creates and hosts fun social and educational programs for new parents. Some of the events are for moms only, such as the Girls Night Out, but most activities involve both mom and baby. Lundy has also developed and produced The Mother of All Baby Showers, the largest baby

shower experience for expectant and new parents in the Tampa Bay Area and expanding into Washington, DC and South Florida later this year. As a mom herself, Lundy offers these top tips for new moms-to-be: Don’t feel guilty: be flexible, open-minded, don’t be too hard on yourself and keep a sense of humor. Take naps when you can: when baby naps, the laundry can wait, you deserve the nap too! Don’t be afraid to ask for help: family, friends, babysitters, local and national resources are great resources. Amy is happily married to trusts and

estates attorney, Adam Lusthaus, a proud mother to adorable, smart and sassy Alexandra, and a 4 year old schnauzerpoodle mix Maddy, and will soon welcome her second child, a son in August. Amy is the middle sister between brothers Michael and Matthew Lundy, who also reside in Tampa and run their own law firms. Amy is originally from South Florida, where her parents Ed and Merle (and biggest supporters) reside. "THIS IS WHAT EVERY SPA SHOULD LOOK LIKE, SMELL LIKE, AND BE LIKE.”

“I have very, very high standards for spas. They must be DARK DARK, DARK, they must be clean, they must have aromatherapy happening in the rooms/lounges, and you must be treated like a queen. This spa meets and/or surpasses all of my standards. I have been to five-star spas all over the world, and this place has taken all the best hints from those spas and put it together in one small, yet beautiful package on MacDill Ave. in South Tampa.

It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but once you get inside, you are transported to a five-star spa in Dubai. Congrats to the owner for getting it soooo right. We are lucky to have a spa like this in Tampa.

By the way, I had a massage with Caroline. It was perfect. I highly recommend her.” –– Ej P. Tampa, FL

It’s an issue for most women, and men too. We want to defy gravity and stop (or at least significantly delay) the aging process. Now, there is a new product on the market that has been shown to improve the skins appearance and firmness. Nerium Biotechnology formed Nerium SkinCare, Inc. to develop the age-defying skin care product. Scientists, researchers and developers created NeriumAD after nearly a decade of research and clinical trials. The main ingredient is plant-based Nerium oleander, an evergreen scrub that when extracted is now called NAE-8® and the key ingredient. Researchers found the extract had many age-defying properties for the skin and is completely natural and safe. For better looking skin, give NeriumAD a try today. $80 – $110.

Pura Vida! Escape to Costa Rica | By Ronda M. Parag

Reflect and soothe the soul in the thermo-mineral hot springs on the 500+ acre reserve, Rio Perdido.

I

t’s become a catch phrase for Costa Rican Culture and is embraced everywhere — on t-shirts, specialty items and in greetings or farewells — “Pura Vida.” Literally it means “Pure Life,” however, it is roughly meant to embrace the good life. Locals and tourists alike have embraced the phrase meaning “full of life” or “great going” or “this is living.” Costa Rica is a country of volcanic mountains, tropical forests and beautiful beaches bordered on the North by Nicaragua, the East by Panama, West by the Pacific Ocean and North East by the Caribbean Sea. An easy flight from the Bay area through Miami, the climate is tropical and activities abound. From relaxation on the beach to a variety of eco-tourism activities, it is easy to see why Costa Rica has become such a sought-after vacation destination. About an hour drive from the Liberia Airport, RIU Hotels & Resorts has two resorts within the beautiful Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. Opened in 2009, Riu Guanacaste has a feel of old-world charm and newly opened, in November, 2012, Riu Palace offers a modern and sophisticated design. Both properties are all-inclusive resorts offering unlimited food, drinks, entertainment and programs throughout the hotels. With 528 guest rooms of clean, crisp white decor with accents of purple, each guest room has free Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service, perfect for a romantic, couples’ escape. The resort has four pools, complete with a swim-up bar. From anywhere on the property, guests are never far from a crafted cocktail or delicious dining. While the resort has a main dining area offering international selections morning, noon and evening, the Riu Palace has four specialty restaurants serving Japanese, Italian, Steakhouse and Modern cuisine. Try a different cuisine each night for a unique dining experience, but make sure to get reservations, as they are extremely popular and fill up quickly. For nighttime fun there is a casino and

Top-Bottom: The brand new all-inclusive Riu Palace offers a luxury vacation in Costa Rica; soak up the sun and drinks at the new ‘swim-up’ bar; RIU Palace’s stylish lounge

night club, as well as, customary RIU evening entertainment for the entire family. While it would be easy to stay on property to enjoy the gym, volleyball, steam bath, tennis, windsurfing, kayaking and even one intro scuba lesson in the pool, Costa Rica has numerous National Parks to be explored. The Canyon Tour at Hacienda Guachipelin offers an action packed tour which includes horseback riding to the Rio Negro, tubing on class 1 & 2 rapids, lunch and Canyon Tour of zip lining in the Canopy. As someone who never zip lined — it was certainly challenging, but a thrilling experience of a lifetime. The most difficult part was scaling the mountainside to the next perch. Another day adventure might include a river boat cruise in the wildlife sanctuary of the Palo Verde National Park, where you might see crocodiles, monkeys and thousands of bird species. Be sure to plan a stop at Rio Perdido for the ultimate, luxury outdoor experience. A private 500+ acre reserve is surrounded by volcanic mountain range and a dwarf forest. Currently under construction is phase 1 of the hotel, consisting of 20 rooms that are eco-friendly and will be designed to fit into the environment with

minimal impact, and are expected to be complete by December 2014. For now, guests can enjoy spa treatments, delicious cuisine, biking and canopy experiences along with hiking trails. After a hike through the canyon, enjoy a swim in the thermo-mineral river where temperatures range from 90 - 115 degrees fahrenheit. It is both healing and soothing for the mind and body. S

ummer is here and the time for backyard barbeques, picnics and grilling is upon us. For years, wine merchants and critics have espoused the virtues of Red Zinfandel as the ideal wine for grilling. While Zinfandel does pair nicely with grilled ribs, burgers and beef, the varietal is prone to high alcohol that can overly accentuate the spices in a favorite rub, brine or BBQ sauce. Whether white, rosé or red, a wine selection for summer barbequing should be fun, fresh and affordable. This summer break out of the Zinfandel rut and try these three value-oriented suggestions. Here in Tampa Bay, one of the most exciting forms of barbequing is with seafood. Charred day boat scallops, citrus

marinated grilled gulf shrimp, charcoalgrilled slipper lobster and blackened grouper … the list for grilling seafood is almost endless. These items certainly need to be paired with a white wine, which might not be your first thought for a barbeque wine. A must try this summer comes from Napa Valley’s largest familyowned winery, the 2010 St. Supery “Dollarhide Vineyard” Sauvignon Blanc ($19.95). The single vineyard from St. Supery’s prized Dollarhide Ranch is fresh, clean and bursting with flavors of ripe pink grapefruit, candied lime rind, tart pears and kissed with just a touch of new French oak, lending a hint of toastiness and creamy vanilla flavors that will pair beautifully with the slightly

smoky flavors from the grill. If you are looking for versatility and value for your next backyard barbeque, then look no further than a dry rosé. Rosés are produced all over the world, from a vast number of grape varietals and differing styles, but one to find is the 2012 Chateau Grande Cassagne ($9.95). This dry rosé is from Costières de Nîmes, on the western edge of the Rhône Valley. The vines are planted in an ancient, dried-up riverbed and produce a structured, deeply colored rosé with red fruit flavors of wild strawberry, cherry and watermelon backed by rocky, mineral flavors. Composed of a blend of 60 percent Grenache, 35 percent Syrah and 5 percent Mourvèdre, this wine will pair with just about anything from the grill including meats, seafood, fruits and vegetables. And finally, for the main course, comes an incredible blend from Ernesto Catena’s Tikal winery in Mendoza Argentina, the 2011 Tikal “Patriota” Malbec/Bonarda ($21.95). This delicious blend of 60 percent Malbec and 40 percent Bonarda boasts an inky, glass staining, deep purple colored wine with bright, juicy raspberry and cherry flavors with hints of meaty, smoky, gaminess, cocoa and minerality. The wine has soft, silky tannins and maintains great acidity, a key component for cutting through the richness and fattiness of your favorite grilled meats. Try this affordable, delicious overachiever with chimichurri grilled flank steak, cherry barbeque pork tenderloin, Italian sausage or even smoked or jerked chicken. Be mindful of the temperature the wine is served, as the whites and rosé are best well chilled, and the reds with a light chill. Proper temperature will help maintain the freshness by not accentuating the alcohol. Hopefully these tips can help your summer of grilling be the best summer ever! he newest restaurant on South Howard, formerly the Samba Room, is now CopperFish, serving up fresh and delicious seafood. As part of the SoHo Hospitality Group, with owners Gordon Davis, Kevin Enderle and Michael Bleser, the entire interior was redone in a chic, modern coastal decor. The interior with weathered, brick walls and planked wood flooring appear aged, yet fresh with the classic and comfortable design pairing perfectly with the casual, seafood vibe. with modern gray, hi-back booths. Already a favorite starter is grilled oysters topped with garlic, butter, parmesan and romano cheese. A combo skillet of mussels, shrimp and clams provides a seafood trio sample served with charred leek, mushrooms and tomatoes prepared on the open grill. Oyster purists will have a selection of several types to select from the raw bar. There are several salad choices including a Caesar salad, the gem house salad with baby carrots, french green beans, radish and topped with white balsamic vinaigrette,

“we proudly support our local fishermen, farmers and ranchers” or try the spinach salad with red onion drizzled with gorgonzola bacon vinaigrette and browned bacon candied walnuts. Main entrees include a selection of sandwiches of lobster roll, soft shell crab BLT, burgers, gulf shrimp & oyster Po Boy, as well as a fried grouper sandwich with Abita “Purple Haze” beer batter, served on wheat berry toast. Other delicious entrees include crispy fish tacos, fish and chips and three steak choices of ribeye, filet or NY Strip along with Alaskan crab legs and lobster. The Black Grouper is cooked to perfection and served atop white truffle grits and braised swiss chard. The shrimp and diver scallops are also a delight served on a bed of white beech mushrooms, leek and crimson lentil ragout. Sides are extra and include a selection of baby vegetables, garlicky spinach, house fries, farro risotto, grilled asparagus and a few others. Finish dinner with either the butterscotch crème brûlée, or a shortcake of seasonal berries topped with sweet cream and vanilla ice cream. CopperFish’s menu changes by preparing and serving only the freshest and locally sourced food, taking the farm-to-table approach that has become popular with diners. A chalk board lists daily catches along with tides and water temperatures. The menu states, “we proudly support our local fishermen, farmers and ranchers.” SoHo’s newest restaurant, CopperFish, just might be the coolest new place to try for the latest seafood this summer. hand-stamped, the dinnerware is handpainted pottery and whimsy flatware is designed with fin and fish tails. The hearty, brown bread is brought to the table inside a tin can rather than a traditional bread basket. The menu offers a wide selection of locally sourced seafood at the Raw Bar. A sampling of lobster, clams, oysters, shrimp, crab, and ceviche on the Seafood Platter serves as a great starter. Other appetizers include a Grouper or Crab Cake and Crab and Fried Green Tomatoes with a charred tomato vinaigrette. Entrees are divided By Land and By Sea with only the freshest seafood available as well as Jack’s Catch sourced daily. Land lovers have an option of chicken, pork or several steaks.
