BATTLE BOXES WITH CATHY ANGEL
Owner and Founder of Boxed by an Angel
Trying times call for implementation of spirit lifting tactics. That is the exact business model for Boxed By an Angel in which Owner & Founder Cathy Angel has provided so much hope and strength. Putting the ‘care’ in the term care package is truly the idea behind this concept.
Cathy is a 9-year breast cancer survivor. She met her husband in 2021, and married in 2022, becoming Cathy Angel. One morning over breakfast with her husband, she voiced her eagerness to curate customized gift boxes for women going through cancer treatments and other tough times.
Angel expounding on the business’s name saying, “I wanted to call it Boxed by an Angel, as a play on our last name and as a nod to all the “angels” that brought me joy during my battle. I wanted to do something that would provide a way for anyone to become someone’s angel during a time of need,
because I had so many angels surrounding me during my time of need. He loved the idea and has been my biggest supporter since that day.”
To support this cause and brighten someone’s day visit www.boxedbyanangel.com for an array of custom box arrangements. Those that want to help can also order items to stock the inventory through their Amazon Wish List that is promoted on Wednesdays as “Wish List Wednesdays.”
METRO: How or when did you know that this idea had cultivated a response?
Cathy Angel: It was a slow start with very few applications or orders until this past January when I had another reconstruction surgery. I tracked my progress via social media and that’s when my following started to grow and I started receiving more applications and sponsorships. We have sent out 196 boxes since January all over the U.S. and as far as Germany and Venezuela!
METRO: How do you curate each box?
CA: As applicants come to our site and apply for a box, they tell us about themselves and their favorite things. The top requests are candles, lip balms, lotions, handmade soaps, cozy socks, books, organic snacks and tea. Usually, I’ll throw in something extra personal to give it that special finish. I carefully check all of our products to make sure they are chemical free and safe for our applicants. That is very important to me.
I also include things like bath salts, shower steamers, skincare, face masks, foot masks, earrings, cashmere blend beanies, scarfs, gratitude journals, inspirational coloring books, embroidery kits and crafts, ginger mints and other candies, chocolate truffles and more! Some love nature and plants, so my friend Austin with The Rustic Jungle found baby succulents that I could pack in the boxes.
METRO: Any future plans for expansion of your business?
CA: Eventually, I would like to form a foundation to help women with their medical bills and other needs outside of comfort items. I would also like to set up a subscription-based program, so that people can gift boxes periodically throughout a fighter’s treatment.

8 Things To Do To Stay Healthy In Your 30s,
40s, & 50s
By Michelle Marie Arean
Health prevention for women in their 30s, 40s, and 50s goes beyond your yearly checkup. From physical health to mental health these are a few steps to mark off your wellness checklist.
“Health prevention is important for women of every age,” says Dr. Megan Tirone, chief medical officer of St. Joseph’s Women’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital.
“In recent years, we have learned that
our health as adults is a reflection of what happened when we were young,” says Dr. Romeena Lee, primary care physician and obesity medicine fellow with the University of Florida.
“I believe that our overall health is a puzzle consisting of three main pieces: physical, mental and physiological health. Together, these components determine how we are doing as we age. Each piece is equally important,” adds Lee.
“A recent study showed, women have to do less amount of exercise minutes, in terms of cardio and strength, to get the same benefits as men.”
~ Dr. Daniela Crousillat, director for the Women’s Heart Program at Tampa General-Heart and Vascular Institute
“Replace crash diets with relentless self care.”
~ Dr. Jocelyn Wallace, pelvic floor physical therapist with Wallace Physical Therapy + Wellness
Meet the Experts
1. Nutrition
“Nutrition is crucial,” says Lee. “As we age, eating nutrient dense foods with plenty of fiber, vitamins and minerals is key to preventing disease. Avoiding foods that are highly processed, full of sugar and fats is a must. Once women get to menopause, the protective effects of estrogen start to decrease and we depend more on our nutrition and physical activity.” Dr. Jocelyn Wallace, pelvic floor physical therapist with Wallace Physical Therapy + Wellness adds that “This is the time to focus on the quality of your food and balanced macronutrients (protein/carbs/fat). Replace crash diets with relentless self care.”
For example, “Healthy eating habits, such as the Mediterranean diet, can help with heart health and diabetes prevention,” adds Tirone. Wallace adds that “Limiting red meat while eating 2-3 cups of fruits, and vegetables daily, and limiting alcohol intake can reduce your risk of developing breast and colon cancer.”
“Only diet with body composition in mind. Losing weight quickly or jumping on the newest fad may feel good in the moment, but it comes at the cost of lost bone density and lean body mass later in life,” says Wallace.
2. Physical Movement
One thing we know we have to do is exercise. “Having a sedentary lifestyle is the new smoking,” says Dr. Daniela Crousillat, director for the Women’s Heart Program at Tampa General-Heart and Vascular Institute. “Post pandemic, a large portion of the population continues to be sedentary. We’re seeing the high rates of being overweight and obese continuing to be a persistent problem,” she adds. “For women, it is important to continue to maintain physical strength through cardiovascular exercises and strength training,” says Lee.“Moving can mean different things to different people,” adds Crousillat. “Whether it is taking an intentional walk after a meal or doing yoga or pilates. Physical health is extremely important because as women age we lose our muscle mass. And once menopause occurs, we lose the strength in our bones, putting us at risk for fractures and injury. Building physical strength is crucial to our health.”
“We recommend at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity
at least five days a week,” says Crousillat. “This could be having a standing desk at work or going for a brisk walk every 1-2 hours, or in between meetings. As much activity you can build within your day is what helps build habits.” Wallace says that “The women I see who get the most powerful results do two things: first, they let go of the all-or-nothing mindset. In 45 years, it won’t matter if you finished every workout you started. What matters is that you keep making exercise a priority, in all seasons of your life. The second thing is they stop viewing exercise and nutrition as a way to change their body. The real magic happens when you view exercise and nutrition for what it adds to your life. It’s easy to lose sight of that these days, but beating yourself up through exercise and dieting your lean body mass away is not a path to health.”
“A recent study showed, women have to exercise less amount of minutes to get the same benefits as men,” Crousillat says. “An exercise habit should be a lifelong thing, not something you pick up for three months and then quit for nine months, and then pick it back up.”
3. Resistance Training
“The benefits of resistance training are enormous including improving bone density, muscle mass and metabolic health, reducing risk for falls and fractures and improving brain health,” says Wallace. “Resistance training only gets more important as we get older. Women should focus on functional activities that carry over to real life like getting on/off the ground, stepping up and down on one leg, holding and carrying things, and putting things overhead. Resistance training can be simple and you can get it done with 2-3 short sessions a week, without a gym or a focus on lifting the heaviest weights. As we get older, we also lose our fast twitch muscle fibers the fastest. This means our first skills to go are agility and speed. Think stepping off a curb, losing your balance, and having a quick response time to prevent a fall — “these skills are ‘use it or lose it.’ So the older someone is, the more I emphasize speed training to prevent loss of these muscle fibers.”
“As women age, we lose our muscle mass, and once menopause occurs we lose the strength in our bones, putting us at risk for fractures and injury. Building physical strength is crucial,” says Lee.
4.Routine Exams
“I tell women of all ages to see their primary care physicians every year,” says Lee. “Nowadays almost everyone has a risk factor for high cholesterol or diabetes due to our diets; therefore, asking your primary to screen for these things early can tell a woman a lot about their overall physiological health.” Lee notes that comprehensive physical exams should also include mental health screening. Tirone adds, “Routine comprehensive physical exams, which include cervical cancer screening every three years, or more frequently as indicated by health history, and breast exams should be performed annually.” Wallace says that women in their 40s should get a full thyroid panel. “The sooner you catch signs of a sluggish thyroid or raised thyroid antibodies, the sooner you can reverse course,” she notes. Tirone adds that by your 40s, “mammography should be added to our screening regimen. The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology recommends women at average risk for breast cancer begin screening mammography at age 40 and continue every one to two years until age 75. Colon cancer screening should also begin with screening colonoscopy at age 45.”
Crousillat adds that knowing your family history could also help you prevent future illnesses. “There are a lot of things that can be familial or genetic that allow us to take preventative approaches and make sure we’re being screened,” she says.
5.Mental Health
“Our mental health is the pillar to our physical and physiological health. Without mental health, our body deteriorates,” says Lee. “We know that stress, anxiety, and depression have negative impacts on our overall health. I always tell my patients that if they are feeling ‘different’ or ‘not themselves’ then get help. I’ve learned that the sooner one gets help, then the faster they get back on their feet and their overall health recuperates.”
Crousillat notes that there’s a link between psychological health and cardiac disease so she empowers women whether they suffer from depression, anxiety, perimenopause, or just mood disorders to get the treatment that they deserve for those core morbidities. “It’s important for us to know ourselves, know our triggers, know what makes us happy, sad, angry. The reality is that in life we’ll go through a lot of ebbs and flows and we don’t always feel the same mood every day- and that’s not the expectation. When it comes to mental health, there are so many flavors of what people find comforting or helps them stay ‘mentally healthy.’ There are things we know like getting enough sleep, making sure you’re consuming a healthy diet, and that you’re exercising, which releases natural endorphins. But, I recommend women explore other options like journaling, art, picking up a hobby, yoga, and meditation. For some women, it’s helpful for them to talk about it. It doesn’t mean you need to have that person there only in a time of crisis. I think it’s important to have that relationship that can be there to support you as you go through different decades of life,” says Crousillat.
6.Perimenopause Symptoms
For women in their 30s, the idea of menopause might seem eons away. But, the truth is that symptoms can begin as early as late 30s. “In their 30s, all women should learn about perimenopause so they know what to watch out for and what to expect, including learning about Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM),” says Wallace. “For women in their 40s,
this is the decade where years of chronic stress and dieting tend to catch up. Combined with perimenopause, people start to really suffer with things like hair loss, insomnia, anxiety, pain and body changes,” she adds. Crousillat says that “the most common symptoms that people report are Vaso Motor Symptoms like hot flashes and temperature intolerances, which are tied to changes in hormone levels that can last from months to years and sometimes even more than a decade.”
Crousillat suggests women be vocal about their symptoms with their physicians, especially if they’re affecting your quality of life. “Things like heart disease or going through menopause in some cultures are a little taboo, and some women suffer on their own,” says Crousillat. “There are treatments out there to make the transition smoother. There is emerging data that some of the women who suffer the most heavily from these symptoms are tied to heart disease.” Wallace adds, “The sooner we can treat unwanted perimenopausal symptoms, the better long term outcomes.”
7.Cardiovascular Risks
“Cardiovascular disease is the number one death for women,” says Crousillat. “For women in their 30s-40s, it’s important to know the risk factors.” She adds that stressors, like psychological stress, are tied to cardiac disease. And encourages women to become more educated on sex-specific risk factors, which can be things like breast cancer and chemotherapy treatment; pregnancy complications like preeclampsia or gestational diabetes; autoimmune diseases; as well as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. “Forty is a time when women put their own health on the back burner; the forties is not a time to be forgotten in terms of heart health,” she says. “And, the fifties is when women are in the menopause transition. About 8-10 years after menopause is when we see a high risk in cardiovascular health, when estrogen dissipates,” adds Crousillat. “Women lag behind men by about 10 years in heart disease. They tend to develop heart disease in their 60 to 70s.”
8.Supplements
Some supplements can aid women with many of the symptoms they feel or help them strengthen their physical well-being.
“I always recommend women learn about the benefits of creatine- it’s great for any decade,” says Wallace. “Make sure you’re keeping tabs on your Vitamin D. Low Vitamin D is associated with many chronic health issues that impact women,” she adds. In addition, “some common supplements for thyroid health include selenium, B vitamins, magnesium, Iron and Vitamins A, C and E.”
Supplements such as folate are beneficial during prepregnancy in preventing birth defects, notes Tirone. “As we approach menopause, calcium supplementation with Vitamin D can improve bone health,” she adds.
For women in their 50s, Magnesium glycinate can be a great addition for those who are struggling with aches and pains, muscle cramps or trouble sleeping.
And finally, as we age, “our protein needs increase. Make sure you’re getting enough protein,” says Wallace. “For gut and pelvic health, real food protein sources are always preferable. Fake protein products are all the rage, but artificial sweeteners, fillers and other ingredients can be problematic.” M
“The bottom line on women’s health and prevention is to take care of you and make your health and wellness a priority. Healthy diets, moderate exercise, attention to wellness and burnout prevention, plus routine physical exams are easy to recommend but take time to implement. Small changes become habit, habit leads to better health, fitness and mental wellness.”

Dark Elegance A Moody Luxe Bedroom Suite
By Ronda M. Parag
Interior Design by Cruz Interiors Inc.

Step into the owner’s bedroom suite, a masterclass in moody sophistication, designed by Cruz Interiors Inc.
Enveloped in a rich, dark color palette, the space exudes a deep sense of luxury, intimacy, and style. The matte black walls set the tone, creating a bold canvas that instantly draws you in, allowing the textures and accents to shine in contrast.
Central to the design is the striking use of black and green velvet upholstery. The sumptuous, tactile nature of these fabrics invites relaxation while adding a layer of opulence. The deep green evokes a sense of calm, balancing the intensity of the black with a subtle nod to nature. Every piece, from the lush armchairs to the sleek 4-post metal bedframe, is an embodiment of luxury and comfort.
Brass hardware punctuates the room, adding a touch of warmth and vintage charm to the moody atmosphere. The brass pops against the matte finishes, introducing a refined elegance that highlights the room’s attention to detail. From the lighting fixtures to the drawer handles, every accent has been thoughtfully curated to enhance the overall aesthetic.
The fusion of rich textures—velvet, metal, and wood — creates an environment that feels both modern and timeless. This is a space that tells a story of bold design choices, but with an effortless sophistication that never feels overwhelming.

HOME TOUR
Colorful Charm Meets Artistic Flair An Historic 1925 Home Gets a Bold Makeover
By Ronda M. Parag
Design by Lisa Gilmore Design
Photos by Native House Photography
This charming 1925 home in the Old Northeast neighborhood recently underwent a stunning transformation, led by Lisa Gilmore Design. The homeowner, who relocated from Colorado, brought a love for bold color, whimsical charm, and a deep passion for art, which became the foundation of the design vision for her new space.
“The project focused on the living room, dining room, kitchen nook, and den/home office, with each space reflecting the homeowner’s vibrant personality,” says Lisa Gilmore, Principal Interior Designer. “Throughout the home, we used bold colors, lively patterns, and varied textures to breathe life into every corner.”
In the heart of the house, the living room stands out with a playful, modern feel. The walls are kept light and neutral to allow the hot pink sofa to take center stage. The sofa is beautifully complemented by a colorful area rug and an eye-catching gallery wall of art. “The mix of textures and bright hues makes the space feel dynamic and alive, while the art adds a personal touch,” adds Gilmore. The living room flows effortlessly into the adjacent spaces, thanks to the clever use of drapery, which carries a fun, animalinspired motif featuring flamingos, tigers, and palm trees. This element creates a cohesive feel across the open-plan areas, uniting the living and dining rooms while allowing each space to maintain its own personality.
The dining room is where the design team took a deep dive into rich, luxurious tones. The walls are dressed in a stunning deep blue, serving as a dramatic backdrop for modern art. Adding further intrigue, the ceiling is covered in a deep purple textured wallpaper, giving the room an unexpected layer of sophistication. A stately marble dining
table anchors the space, and the homeowner’s existing vintage dining chairs were given a fresh update with colorful fabric and paint. “These once-unremarkable chairs have been transformed into statement pieces, adding to the room’s eclectic yet refined charm,” says Gilmore.
For the kitchen nook, a historic vibe was introduced with a beautiful William Morris wallpaper, which adds warmth and character. The cozy corner is the perfect spot for a morning coffee or a quick mid-day snack, offering a serene break from the bolder tones found throughout the rest of the house.
The standout space, however, is the den/home office — a true labor of love. The room is enveloped in a rich, earthy green (Ben Moore: Sweet Basil) that brings depth and calm to the space. A custom-built desk adds functionality, while the ceiling is adorned with elegant tortoise shell wallpaper that ties the room together. The final touch of luxury is an antique chandelier imported from France. With limited wall space, Lisa Gilmore Design found a creative solution by framing a gorgeous Hermès scarf as art. Finishing the space is a cozy floral sofa, perfect for unwinding after a long day.
“This project not only celebrates color and individuality, but also showcases how thoughtful design can turn a house into a unique and welcoming home,” says Gilmore. M

Urban Elegance A Downtown Tampa Condo Transformed Into Modern Luxury
By Ronda M. Parag
Design by Debra Ackerbloom Interiors
Photography by Bos Images
Adowntown Tampa condo was recently transformed into a stunning modern sanctuary through a total renovation, led by the design team of Debra Ackerbloom Interiors, Inc. “The project involved an overhaul of the space, from new furnishings and fixtures to fresh finishes, delivering a completely updated aesthetic,” says Debra Ackerbloom, Principal with Ackerbloom Interiors. The homeowners, who had relocated to New York, entrusted the designers with the freedom to start from scratch, and the results exceeded their expectations.
“The design centered around a soft, neutral base of creamy whites, which served as a serene canvas for the space,” adds Ackerbloom. “Rich wood tones added warmth and contrast, while vibrant pops of color brought life and energy to each room.” The floors were updated with wide plank white oak, lending a sleek yet timeless look, while aged brass fixtures added a touch of vintage-inspired sophistication. The choice of Calacatta countertops throughout the kitchen and bathrooms elevated the luxurious feel of the space.
Statement lighting played a key role in defining the condo’s character, with bold fixtures drawing the eye and creating focal points in the living and dining areas. “The seating was selected for comfort and style, featuring deep, plush sofas and chairs that invite relaxation while maintaining an elegant, modern look,” says Ackerbloom.
Throughout the condo, potted florals and greenery introduced elements of nature, softening the urban edges of the design and creating a fresh, inviting atmosphere. Plush area rugs underfoot added texture and coziness, ensuring every space felt comfortable and lived-in. “The mix of performance fabrics and leathers was carefully chosen to ensure the durability and longevity of the pieces, especially for a home where entertaining family and friends is a priority,” adds Ackerbloom.
“When the homeowners returned from New York for the big reveal, they were thrilled with the transformation,” says Ackerbloom. “Their vision for a chic, modern, and comfortable space had been brought to life, with every detail thoughtfully curated to reflect their lifestyle and design preferences.” The condo now serves as a stylish retreat where they can relax, entertain, and enjoy the vibrant energy of downtown Tampa.
The designer’s inspiration for the project stemmed from the client’s desire for a modern update that felt both sophisticated and welcoming. The urban modern style — marked by sleek lines, rich textures, and a harmonious blend of neutral tones and bold accents — perfectly encapsulated the homeowners’ aesthetic goals. By mixing luxury materials with functional design elements, the space not only looks stunning but also serves as a practical, longlasting home.
“This downtown Tampa condo now stands as a testament to the power of thoughtful design, blending comfort with style, and allowing the homeowners to make the most of their second home,” says Ackerbloom. M

A Coastal Gem in Downtown St. Petersburg
Juno & the Peacock | By Ronda M. Parag
Nestled along the vibrant Beach Drive in Downtown St. Petersburg, Juno & the Peacock offers a refreshing take on New American Coastal cuisine. With its impeccable blend of seafood and steaks, this newly opened hotspot is set to make waves in the local dining scene. The restaurant, designed by the awardwinning New York-based firm AvroKo, offers a laid-back yet sophisticated interior that merges “mission nouveau” aesthetics with hints of the roaring ‘60s. The ambiance is inviting and comfortable, with a unique design that perfectly complements the flavorful dishes.
At the heart of Juno & the Peacock’s menu is a commitment to locally sourced ingredients, prepared in-house to ensure maximum freshness. The raw bar is a standout, offering an array of seafood delicacies, including oysters, shrimp cocktail, and a flavorful ahi tuna tartare. Seafood lovers will find plenty to indulge in, while the restaurant’s modern coastal twist on classic dishes brings new life to traditional favorites.
The shared plates at Juno & the Peacock are a great way to start your meal, offering a chance to sample a variety of the restaurant’s signature
flavors. The Maryland Crab Cake is packed with fresh, sweet crab, perfectly seasoned and paired with a zesty aioli, while the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio is a must-try for meat lovers—tender, delicate, and bursting with rich flavor.
The entrée menu offers a wellcurated selection of seafood and steak options that showcase the best of both land and sea. The 10-ounce bone-in filet we sampled was cooked to absolute perfection, tender and flavorful with a beautiful sear. If you’re in the mood for seafood, the Chilean Sea Bass is a standout choice. Served with corn cream, pepper relish, and almond salad, the sea bass is light and flaky, with a balance of sweet and savory flavors. For something a little more indulgent, the Crab-Crusted Grouper is another seafood option worth exploring, combining rich flavors with delicate textures.
The bar program at Juno & the Peacock is equally impressive, offering a unique cocktail menu titled “Cocktails Through the Decades” created by beverage director Ingi Sigurdsson. This thoughtful collection features drinks from different eras, ranging from the classic Manhattan of the 1900s to the modern Espresso Martini of the 2020s.
Each cocktail is skillfully crafted by the talented mixologists who have taken these timeless drinks and elevated them for contemporary tastes. The attention to detail in both presentation and flavor makes this a highlight of the dining experience.
We couldn’t resist sampling a couple of the desserts, and both were absolute winners. The Key Lime Pie was tangy, sweet, and served with a buttery graham cracker crust, while the deconstructed tiramisu offered a playful take on the beloved classic, with rich mascarpone, espressosoaked ladyfingers, and a hint of cocoa.
For those looking for a pre-dinner or post-dinner drink, be sure to visit Pluma, the adjacent cocktail lounge. Exploring the rich flavors of South and Central American spirits, Pluma is a cozy hideaway with dark teal walls, velvet drapery, and intimate lighting — perfect for quiet conversations. The plush seating invites you to sit back, sip, and savor the moment.
Juno & the Peacock is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience. Whether you’re indulging in a fresh seafood dish, savoring a perfectly cooked steak, or sipping on a nostalgic cocktail, this downtown gem is sure to become a favorite. M
Elevated Fall Flavors
Ava in South Tampa Debuts a Bold New Seasonal Menu | By
Evan Parag
Experience the perfect blend of Italian tradition and rustic charm at Ava, nestled in the heart of South Tampa’s vibrant SoHo district. Located along bustling Howard Ave., this beloved restaurant continues to thrive, bringing the joy of authentic Italian cuisine to every meal. With a newly updated menu, Ava invites you to savor unforgettable flavors while creating lasting memories with family and friends.
Born and raised in Tampa, Chef John Lister has been a key part of the Ava team for several years, making him well-versed in what it takes to run a beloved community hub centered around comforting cuisine. With Chef Lister at the helm, they are always finding fresh ways to elevate the dining experience, as seen in the exciting updates to their menu.
Kick off your meal with a handcrafted cocktail, a glass of wine, or a cold beer. For something special, try the Cup of Joe, a signature espresso martini, or the 1919, a modern twist on the classic Moscow mule — featuring vodka, Aperol, fresh lemon juice, and ginger beer for a refreshing kick.
A staple of Ava’s menu remains their
mouthwatering pizzas. Baked to perfection in the authentic Italian brick oven, which takes center stage in the dining area, these hot, fresh Neapolitanstyle pizzas are a must-try for any visit. Hand-made Pastas are portioned large enough to share with a favorite being the Pappardelle All Bolognese and the Casarecce all Vaccinara — a rich pasta with oxtail, pine nuts and currants.
Newer menu additions include bread service and Ava’s take on the Caesar Salad which embodies a unique take on this classic, featuring homemade croutons and caesar dressing, long leaved lettuce and shredded parmesan cheese. Indulge in a delicate Prime Beef Carpaccio that melts in your mouth. This elegant dish features thinly sliced prime beef, drizzled with a rich truffle aioli that adds a touch of decadence. Topped with fresh micro arugula for a peppery bite and finished with crisp croutons for the perfect crunch, it’s a harmonious blend of flavors and textures that elevates every bite. A true culinary masterpiece! The calamari is everything you didn’t know you were craving. It’s light, crispy and downright
irresistible and the perfect crunch bite. Hamachi Crudo blends yellowtail, jalapeño, citrus and chive oil to shake things up from from the classic Italian appetizer selections. The Buffalo de Burrata is an Ava take on the classic Burrata, but with the sweet flavors of strawberries, mint pesto paired with the heirloom tomatoes, aged balsamic and garnished with some grilled bread.
For the entrees, savor the bold flavor of the Heritage Pork Chop, expertly grilled to juicy perfection. This dish is paired with a unique and savory artichoke lasagna, layered with tender artichokes and creamy goodness. Roasted baby carrots bring a natural sweetness, while the tangy punch of preserved lemon adds a bright, zesty contrast. Finished with a drizzle of rich basil butter and a sprinkling of crispy fried capers for a touch of briny crunch, this dish is a celebration of fresh, vibrant ingredients and elevated comfort.
Be sure to save room for the dessert of handmade cannolis or the flourless chocolate cake topped with chocolate ganache, raspberry sauce and topped with vanilla ice cream. M
A Mediterranean Journey On Every Plate At The Tampa Edition
Sunday Brunch at Azure
| By Ronda M. Parag
If you’re looking for a brunch experience that transports you straight to the Mediterranean coast, look no further than Azure, located inside the sleek Tampa Edition Hotel. With a menu inspired by classic Greek and Mediterranean flavors, Azure’s Sunday brunch is quickly becoming a must-try for foodies in Tampa Bay.
The brunch menu at Azure offers a delightful array of Mediterranean-inspired dishes that showcase the rich, bold flavors of Greece. “The menu’s inspiration was to use classic Mediterranean and Greek dishes and add an element of change and a different approach,” says Chef Gihen Zitouni, Executive Chef at The Tampa EDITION. “We are also doing this brunch like a family style, so it’s more convivial and friendly in the approach. This menu is meant to be shared and enjoyed with our champagne mimosa.”
One standout is the Mandarini & Fig Parfait, a refreshing and tangy start to the
meal, featuring creamy Greek yogurt, seasonal mandarins, and sweet figs, all topped with a sprinkle of toasted granola for added crunch. It’s light, flavorful, and the perfect opener for a decadent brunch.
Another dish not to miss is the Valbresco Baked Feta. Served warm and gooey, this salty, rich feta is paired marinated olives, sun-dried tomatoes and toasted Ciabatta bread, offering a savorysweet bite that’s simply irresistible. For seafood lovers, the Smoked Salmon Lox is a classic Mediterranean staple done right, served with capers, scallion labne, cucumbers, radishes and a topped with a caper-tomato vinaigrette.
Of all the dishes, the Bougatsa French Toast is the true star of Azure’s brunch menu. “Rather than simple French Toast, we tried to be playful and approachable but, most importantly, delicious and decadent,” says Chef Zitouni. Inspired by the traditional Greek pastry, this decadent dish features thick slices of French toast
stuffed with creamy custard, wrapped in a baklava-type pastry and topped with Hosafi dried fruit compote and maple syrup. It’s a heavenly fusion of Greek and American brunch favorites, making it a must-order for anyone with a sweet tooth.
To complement the menu, Azure offers Free Flow Cinzano Mimosas. These bottomless drinks add a bubbly, celebratory touch to the experience, with the light, citrusy notes of Cinzano Prosecco perfectly balancing the flavors of the Mediterranean dishes.
Adding to the lively atmosphere is the Sunday DJ, spinning upbeat tunes that infuse the space with energy. “We will have a new DJ each and every month,” says Ryan Brown, Director of Culture and Entertainment at The Tampa EDITION.
The blend of Mediterranean flavors, free-flowing mimosas, and great music creates a brunch experience that feels like an escape to a coastal Greek island — right in the heart of Tampa. M
