oaring ceilings, waterfront views and a grand staircase leading to a second floor landing overlooking the foyer were among the many appealing features of this Beach Park estate. However, the interior design was less desirable due to a color scheme that included yellow walls, red drapes, black marble countertops and dark brown cabinets. “It just felt very masculine,” recalled Kelly Zara. “But, you can’t beat the location, the open bay view from the master bedroom balcony, or the boat access to the water from our dock.” Two years after purchasing the property, Kelly, her husband, Mike, and their young daughter now occupy the home of their dreams. The lighter, brighter interior incorporates glamour and luxury, yet maintains all of the functionality that the family needs. Designers Kristen McKinlay and Melanie Rose of McKinlay Rose Interiors

collaborated with Kelly to create a more dramatic décor combining a coastal luxe vibe with timeless elegance and transitional luxury. Boasting bold colors, such as turquoise and berry splash, distinctive custom window treatments, ranging from Damask wallpaper shimmering with crushed crystals to a marble-like wallpaper pattern complementing the marble countertop and vessel in the downstairs powder room, and metals used to frame furnishings and fashion the kitchen backsplash, the results rival a five-star hotel. “I like a mix of silver, gold and mirrors, different textures and materials and a lot of one-of-a-kind pieces,” Kelly said. Made-to-order furnishings and custom finishes were key to the transformation. The 72-inch tall, custom white leather tufted headboard in the master bedroom sparkles with Swarovski crystals. A recessed fireplace and mantle in the living room were reconstructed

and redesigned using limestone. Original works of art ranging from sculptures to paintings, light fixtures featuring handblown crystals to frosted glass, exquisitely crafted hand-knotted silk rugs to faux painted ceilings and white washed wood used to craft tables, chairs and a curio with agate hardware are among the exceptional elements found throughout this South Tampa coastal home. “Kelly is young and glamorous so we made sure the house reflected that in every detail. It’s a joy to work with a client who loves color and fabulous finds,” McKinlay added. “When we first started this project, the home was dark and very dated. Using crystals, shimmer, glamour and jewel tones, we brought this waterfront home back to life.” McKinlay Rose Interiors 813.981.0613 www.mckinlayrose.com
