Publisher’s Notes Love is always in the air. When you get engaged, it is perhaps the happiest day of your life. Your significant other has proposed and now is the time to start planning the wedding of your dreams. At Tampa Bay Weddings, our goal is to provide you with ideas and inspirations to make your wedding day special. Through our engaging editorial content, and featured Real Weddings and Inspirations, we provide the resources by showcasing the Tampa Bay area wedding professionals, to create a spectacular day for the bride, groom and their family and friends. The Real Wedding of Courtney and Rob was held at the Ringling Museum and Ca’ d’Zan. Courtney had visited the museum on a high school field trip and she vividly remembers telling her parents, Dr. Steve and Helen Raterman, that she would get married there one day. Courtney told us that reading about John & Mable Ringling’s incredible mindset as collectors and building a home that was a tribute to the depth of their love, both for each other and their art, made it the perfect venue. Kelsey and Timothy “Drew” planned their wedding Photo by Andi Diamond Photography with an influence of the great outdoors, especially fishing. Photographed by Andi Diamond Photography at the Westshore Yacht Club, the happy couple included many details of fishing, including custom gifts for the groomsmen and the groom’s cake, designed as a Yeti cooler. The weather didn’t cooperate completely, but the bride and groom and their guests danced in the rain. It is said to bring good luck to a couple if it rains on their wedding day. Enjoy something blue in the gorgeous Inspiration, “Cool Hues Under A Warm Southern Sky,” photographed by Lifelong Photography Studio, with planning by Blue Skies Weddings & Events. Be inspired by the custom fabrication created by FH Events and designed in partnership with Trés Chic Southern Weddings, in “Archways to Eternal Devotion.” Destinations are always a great option for a wedding, especially if there are lots of friends and family that will be traveling to attend a wedding. In “Romancing The Keys,” discover an ideal destination right in our home state. Key West provides the ultimate island escape, with no passports required. We’ve provided great hotel options with 24˚ North Hotel, and two boutique accommodations of The Marquesa Hotel or Sunset Key Cottages. Create a unique and local experience for your guests with local-favorites, Rodriguez Cigars and Key West Legal Rum Distillery. We host The Elegant Wedding Showcase three times each year, so check the website www.TampaBayWed.com for upcoming show dates and locations. We bring together the best in wedding resources to help inspire and create a magical wedding day. Cheers,

Gown Guide

Modern Simplicity. Gown Trends | By Ronda M. Parag

T

he bridal gown is about absolute beauty and each brideto-be discovers her own style and influence in fashion, that will set the design and details of her big day. Trends come and go, but we’ve asked a few local bridal experts to give us their take on what they see as the next trend in bridal gowns and what their brides-to-be are looking for when they stroll down the aisle. Many designers including Allure Bridals, are seeing an emphasis on geometric appliques, delicate buttons and soft, stretch lace and crepe fabrics. “Crepe and lace styles are two big statements this year,” says Danielle DiMarte, Manager with Malindy Elene Bridal. “Be daring with the popular illusion lace trend and a plunging neckline, or go with a classic look in an all white gown, that blends modern and traditional in one pretty package.” The recent royal weddings have had a ripple effect within the bridal gown industry of understated elegance. Kate Middleton brought back the interest in lace sleeves and now Meghan Markle, with her Audrey Hepburn-inspired style, elegant simplicity. Hey Lady Shoes says, “Think less Kardashian and more natural beauty, especially in makeup and hair. Elements will be more subtle like a low back or sexy slit for dresses, and ladylike and refined for shoes.” Many designers follow traditional styles, but have their own edge on the bridal fashion. RIVINI designs have simplicity with modern couture elements, and are also still trending with two-piece pant dressing and super long veils. “This season we have seen a big trend revolving around halter necklines,” says Ashley DeMutiis, Manager with The White Magnolia Bridal Collection. “Brides are embracing how flattering this cut can be in a bodice, and loving the comfort it provides as well. I think it’s so stunning to have your collarbones peeking out behind lace or an illusion neckline, and it’s such a classic look.” Many brides are looking to be timeless from head to toe. DiMarte reminds brides, “Have fun with your bridal look, and always remember to make it your own.” TBW

A Love for the Great Outdoors The fun-loving couple, Kelsey and Timothy “Drew,” have a great love for the outdoors, especially fishing, and that influenced many of the details of their wedding, including the reception venue at the Westshore Yacht Club, groomsmen’s personalized fishing rods and the Yeti groom’s cooler cake. Expressions of Playfulness, Lightheartedness, Sincerity and Joy Courtney and Rob tried to incorporate their favorite characteristics of each other in every detail of their wedding. They wanted their day to be timeless, yet reflect a moment in their lives. Courtney’s love and passion for art and art history, dictated their choice of venue, the Ringling Museum and Ca’ d’Zan. Rob, who is a composer for TV and film, created an original score for Courtney to walk down the aisle.

Wedding Checklist

Congratulations you’re engaged! Wedding bells will be ringing soon, but in the meantime it’s all about the planning. Here’s a helpful 12-month itinerary to make sure your big day goes off without a hitch.

10 to 12 Months This is the period of research and exploring, what kind of wedding do you want? Pretend you are a detective seeking the best of everything: style, venue, honeymoon, the works. q Schedule engagement photos q Mail out engagement announcements q Set a date q Meet clergy, especially if one of you is converting so you can start classes immediately q Start making bride/groom guest list q Decide on a budget q Decide on indoor or outdoor wedding, be sure to keep in mind weather conditions for outdoor weddings and it’s always a good idea to have a backup plan q Begin scouting locations for ceremony, reception and rehearsal dinner. q Begin researching caterers, florists, photographers, musicians and bakers q Make a list with fiancée of honeymoon destinations and songs for your first dance q Decide on members of the wedding party q Begin shopping for your wedding dress

7 to 9 Months Now it’s time to start narrowing things down. In order to have time for the details, it’s important to get some of the big stuff out of the way. q Send engagement announcement to the local paper q Order your wedding dress q Decide on venue q Choose clergy q Choose your colors q Take bridesmaids shopping for their dresses q Take mom shopping for her Mother of the Bride dress q Meet with florist and decide on flowers for venue, wedding party and reception q Meet with caterer to decide on menu and schedule menu tasting q Book photographer q Meet with musicians to discuss play list q Meet with travel agent about honeymoon q Book reception venue and make deposit

4 to 6 Months Ok, take a deep breath and relax, but not too much. Look at all you’ve accomplished; now it’s time for the details. q Finalize menu with caterer q Finalize guest list q Order wedding invitations q Start shopping for wedding rings q Make appointment with jeweler if want to custom design rings q Meet with baker to view and taste cake options q Order bridesmaids’ dresses q Shop for and order fiancée and groomsmen tuxes q Book honeymoon

q Make sure passports are current if going out of the country

2 to 3 Months Now things are beginning to take form and your dream wedding is unfolding right before your eyes. Just keep focus and have fun. q Order wedding rings q Confirm with florist all flowers for ceremony and reception q Order cake q Register for gifts q Shop and order party favors q Pick song for your first dance q Finalize play list with musicians

4 to 8 Weeks Everything is locked in, your dress is being tailored and everything is ordered. Now is the time to CONFIRM, CONFIRM, CONFIRM. q Mail wedding invitations q Order programs for the ceremony q Go with fiancée to get marriage license q Obtain, fill-out and mail all necessary forms for your name change q Pick up wedding rings and check fit q Final fitting for wedding dress and wedding party q Make appointment with hair and makeup stylist q Make nail appointment q Start shopping for honeymoon clothes q Purchase wedding party gifts q Purchase wedding gift for your fiancée q Pick up your dress and start wearing shoes around the house to ensure comfort on the big day q If traditionalist–make sure have something old, new, borrowed and blue q Plan rehearsal dinner q Pay final payment on reception hall

1 Week Can you hear the wedding bells? That’s right in just one week you’ll go from bride-to-be, to wife! Now just a few minor details before you walk down the aisle into happily ever after. q Confirm with EVERYONE, caterer, photographer, baker, florist to make sure everything is on schedule q Confirm wedding party picked up dresses and tuxes q Get everything packed for honeymoon q Pick up plane or cruise tickets and travel itinerary for honeymoon from travel agent q Hold rehearsal dinner and handout wedding day schedule to wedding party q Take bridesmaids out for brunch and a spa day for the last time as a single gal q Attend wedding rehearsal q Schedule two days for yourself, one for family and one for friends
