Publisher’s Notes The big question has been asked! You have said YES! Now the real fun begins in planning for your special day. While some of you may have dreamed of your wedding for years, others aren't sure about what they want, or even need, for the moment of a lifetime. Our goal at Tampa Bay Weddings and TampaBayWed.com, is to inspire and showcase local resources that Bay area brides can seek to create that magical day. From planners to the venue to the photography, we aim to be the source for local brides in Tampa Bay. We feature three Real Weddings at three unique locations: The Powell Crosley Estate in Sarasota, the Grand Hyatt in Tampa and the Davis Islands Garden Club in South Tampa. Each wedding features plenty of inspiration and details that show the love each couple has, as they begin their lives together. Justin DeMutiis photographed Chelsea and Scott at their beautiful outdoor wedding with a floral arch created by Events in Bloom, and planned by Stonehouse Events. Tara Tomlinson captured the stunning 20s themed wedding of Tiffany and Dax, planned by UNIQUE Weddings & Events. The florals, décor and lighting were created by FH Weddings and Events. Andi Diamond Photography captured the stunning images of Kristy and Rhys at the Grand Hyatt. There are two great Inspiration shoots inside the issue too. From the dramatic theatre venue of the David A. Straz Center, to the citrus-inspired shoot on the roof top of Hotel Zamora, Life Long Studios captured the stunning details created by the talented planners, designers and suppliers. It is all about sharing, so take some of these ideas and incorporate into your dream wedding. The El Conquistador in Puerto Rico might be the ideal location for a destination wedding. The resort sits atop a scenic cliff overlooking the beautiful turquoise waters surrounding the island. The large property includes numerous room types and activities to keep all the wedding guests entertained. We are always looking to highlight local weddings and inspirations. Please send me a link to your submissions, along with the list of vendors and details that made your day special. Don’t miss the opportunity to mix and mingle with some of the top bridal experts in the Bay area on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Tampa Marriott Westshore, for The Elegant Wedding Showcase. Register online at www.TampaBayWed.com. Cheers,

Gown Guide

The Dream Dress Gown Trends | By Ronda M. Parag

S

Searching for the perfect wedding dress should be fun and special. Bring those closest to you that understand your style and vision. There are so many options, from classic to modern, that you may feel overwhelmed. When visiting local bridal boutiques, be open to try on gowns that might be out of your comfort zone. The expert staff can help guide you in the right direction. If you have your heart set on a strapless gown, don’t be afraid to try on one with sleeves. Each boutique has a variety of designers that will showcase a variety of fabrics and silhouettes. Do a bit of homework, looking through magazines and online, to discover different designers and trends that will fit your style. While bridal gown trends don’t change drastically from year to year, there are several noteworthy trends that local boutiques are seeing. Inspired by Kate Middleton, many of the designers are showing sleeves with accents of lace, sequins and beading for visual interest. “This season we know that straps are here to stay, and lots of designers are even creating gorgeous options with long sleeves,” says Ashley West, Manager of The White Magnolia Bridal Collection. “I absolutely love the classic feel of a lace gown with a long sleeve and thrilled this trend has returned. My mother had a wedding gown like this, and I think it’s such a timeless look.” Gowns embellished with feathers is another trend that will make a statement. Confident and bold in a fluttering dress will certainly turn heads and focus all the attention on the bride. Another trend is the return to deep v-necklines. “This is great for a bride who wants a classic feel with some type of strap or sleeve, with just a hint of sexiness,” West says. Low backs with cutouts and lace overlays are also on trend. Megan Bubalo stays on top of the trends to carry the latest designs in her bridal boutique, Malindy Elene. “This season, we are seeing a ton of overskirt and two-piece options for brides,” Bubalo says. “Overskirts are the perfect way to get two looks in one by adding them to any fitted gown. Two-piece gowns are a great way for brides to bring a fashion forward trend down the aisle. We are seeing these trends more and more and bridal designers are loving it!” Never out of fashion is the short, white dress. Whether for the rehearsal dinner or a reception change, there is always room for a LWD (Little White Dress). From frilly and lacy to sleek and slimming, a LWD is always in style. Several designers for spring were also showing fitted white tuxedo pant suits and flowing white chiffon-topped jumpsuits. When you fall in love with the dress (or pants) of your dreams, you will feel it. Don’t agonize that there are other options out there. Embrace your feeling and commit to the dress, so you can begin planning the other details of your big day. TBW

Dreaming of an Island Wedding Escape to El Conquistador Resort in Puerto Rico | By Ronda M. Parag

P

Planning for a destination wedding can be overwhelming and stressful. Deciding where to host the wedding is key. If you are thinking tropical island with beautiful blue waters, great service and fantastic amenities, consider the El Conquistador and Las Casitas Village in Puerto Rico. As part of the Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, there really are two properties in one location. The wedding guests can stay at El Conquistador, while the newly married couple can stay at Las Casitas Village, the adjoining property right next door for their honeymoon. With no passport required for US residents, having an island wedding in tropical Puerto Rico will delight guests, who will be traveling from the States. Access to Puerto Rico offers numerous direct flights from many US cities. The property is about a 45 minute ride from San Juan and the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in the fishing village of Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Spread over 500 acres, the AAA Four Diamond El Conquistador Resort is divided into five villages including Las Casitas, which offers one, two, and three bedroom villas, as well as, 24-hour butler service. Tucked high upon a cliff, overlooking the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the north, El Conquistador offers something for each of your guests.

A championship golf course, spa, private island and water park will provide endless opportunities to entertain your guests. Once guests arrive, there is really no need to leave the property. While the guys can enjoy a day on the links of the 18-hole Arthur Hills championship golf course, the girls can be pampered at the Waldorf Astoria Spa with an Enchanted Bridal spa treatment. The full-service salon offers hair, makeup and nail services, making it easy for the bridal party to look their best on the big day. To bring out the kid in all of your guests, the resort has the Coqui Water Park complete with three high-speed water slides, infinity-edge pool and a relaxing lazy river. Guests can take the ferry to Palomino Island to relax on the private island, and enjoy a day filled with activities including snorkeling, scuba diving, windsurfing, kayak rentals and horseback. While there is a restaurant and bar on the island, a special rehearsal or bridal luncheon can be arranged in theme for your guests. The award-winning culinary team can create anything from an exotic cocktail reception, to a stylish sit-down dinner or buffet. There are plenty of individual dining options onsite from fine dining at Chops Steakhouse, to the Stingray Cafe that specializes in Caribbean dishes including Mofongo (a mashed mound of plantains into which combinations of seafood, meat or vegetables are added), to the casual Las Brisas Restaurant offering panoramic ocean views with a breakfast buffet. The

wedding team is happy to create custom menus and dining options for the wedding guests. With 23 different restaurants and bars, there is an option for all the guests. The resort offers three wedding packages that include butler passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour, champagne toast, five-course dinner and four hour open bar. Prices start at $178 per guest. There are numerous locations for the ceremony and reception including both indoor and outdoor settings, based on the size of your wedding. The resort can handle 1,000 guests in the Grand Caribbean Ballroom or the Magnolia Ballroom with space for 80 guests. TBW

The “Great Daxby” Wedding at the Powel Crosley Estate. Born out of the bride’s love for 1920s style, the wedding color scheme was ivory, gold and black, with the flowers adding a soft, feminine touch in shades of blush and champagne. Tiffany was truly a striking sight in her gold sequin gown, accented with an array of gold and glam accessories, including a fur stole. With her timeless beauty, she looked as if she stepped right out of the Prohibition Era. Michael complimented Tiffany in a dapper, classic black tuxedo. Each of the bridesmaids had their fashion individually selected to fit into the Art Deco style. The bride encouraged the guests to embrace the Roaring 20s, by accenting their attire in period fashion and accessories.

DĂŠcor and accents throughout the wedding included vintage pieces of furniture and accessories, including church pews, a wooden loveseat, dresser, etc. The first dance took place under the glow of a large chandelier, and the guests were treated to signature cocktails that included an Old Fashioned and a Bramble. A typical tiered wedding cake would not do for this wedding, a play on the 1920s speakeasy, the Daxby Sweet Easy was created, that featured a variety of desserts. To cap off the night, the bride & groom rode away from the wedding on vintage bicycles.

Wedding Checklist Congratulations you’re engaged! Wedding bells will be ringing soon, but in the meantime it’s all about the planning. Here’s a helpful 12-month itinerary to make sure your big day goes off without a hitch.

10 to 12 Months This is the period of research and exploring, what kind of wedding do you want? Pretend you are a detective seeking the best of everything: style, venue, honeymoon, the works. ❑ Schedule engagement photos ❑ Mail out engagement announcements ❑ Set a date ❑ Meet clergy, especially if one of you is converting so you can start classes immediately ❑ Start making bride/groom guest list ❑ Decide on a budget ❑ Decide on indoor or outdoor wedding, be sure to keep in mind weather conditions for outdoor weddings and it’s always a good idea to have a backup plan ❑ Begin scouting locations for ceremony, reception and rehearsal dinner. ❑ Begin researching caterers, florists, photographers, musicians and bakers ❑ Make a list with fiancee of honeymoon destinations and songs for your first dance ❑ Decide on members of the wedding party ❑ Begin shopping for your wedding dress

7 to 9 Months Now it’s time to start narrowing things down. In order to have time for the details, it’s important to get some of the big stuff out of the way. ❑ Send engagement announcement to the local paper ❑ Order your wedding dress ❑ Decide on venue ❑ Choose clergy ❑ Choose your colors ❑ Take bridesmaids shopping for their dresses ❑ Take mom shopping for her Mother of the Bride dress ❑ Meet with florist and decide on flowers for venue, wedding party and reception ❑ Meet with caterer to decide on menu and schedule menu tasting ❑ Book photographer ❑ Meet with musicians to discuss play list ❑ Meet with travel agent about honeymoon ❑ Book reception venue and make deposit

4 to 6 Months Ok, take a deep breath and relax, but not too much. Look at all you’ve accomplished; now it’s time for the details. ❑ Finalize menu with caterer ❑ Finalize guest list ❑ Order wedding invitations ❑ Start shopping for wedding rings ❑ Make appointment with jeweler if want to custom design rings ❑ Meet with baker to view and taste cake options ❑ Order bridesmaids’ dresses ❑ Shop for and order fiancée and groomsmen tuxes ❑ Book honeymoon

❑ Make sure passports are current if going out of the country

2 to 3 Months Now things are beginning to take form and your dream wedding is unfolding right before your eyes. Just keep focus and have fun. ❑ Order wedding rings ❑ Confirm with florist all flowers for ceremony and reception ❑ Order cake ❑ Register for gifts ❑ Shop and order party favors ❑ Pick song for your first dance ❑ Finalize play list with musicians

4 to 8 Weeks Everything is locked in, your dress is being tailored and everything is ordered. Now is the time to CONFIRM, CONFIRM, CONFIRM. ❑ Mail wedding invitations ❑ Order programs for the ceremony ❑ Go with fiancée to get marriage license ❑ Obtain, fill-out and mail all necessary forms for your name change ❑ Pick up wedding rings and check fit ❑ Final fitting for wedding dress and wedding party ❑ Make appointment with hair and makeup stylist ❑ Make nail appointment ❑ Start shopping for honeymoon clothes ❑ Purchase wedding party gifts ❑ Purchase wedding gift for your fiancée ❑ Pick up your dress and start wearing shoes around the house to ensure comfort on the big day ❑ If traditionalist–make sure have something old, new, borrowed and blue ❑ Plan rehearsal dinner ❑ Pay final payment on reception hall

1 Week Can you hear the wedding bells? That’s right in just one week you’ll go from bride-to-be, to wife! Now just a few minor details before you walk down the aisle into happily ever after. ❑ Confirm with EVERYONE, caterer, photographer, baker, florist to make sure everything is on schedule ❑ Confirm wedding party picked up dresses and tuxes ❑ Get everything packed for honeymoon ❑ Pick up plane or cruise tickets and travel itinerary for honeymoon from travel agent ❑ Hold rehearsal dinner and handout wedding day schedule to wedding party ❑ Take bridesmaids out for brunch and a spa day for the last time as a single gal ❑ Attend wedding rehearsal ❑ Schedule two days for yourself, one for family and one for friends
