Downtown St. Petersburg adds another museum – The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art to its already acclaimed museum district. Co-Founded by Chair Emeritus, of Raymond James Financial, Tom James, and his wife, Mary, the James’ have amassed a collection of over 3,000 pieces with western themes, during the last 50 years. The museum serves as a visual autobiography of James, and his wife Mary’s travels over the decades, to the western United States. “We want the museum to be a place of education,” James explains. “We want to tell the stories that are America’s history.” The James’, who are avid art collectors, love to support local artists too.

The museum collection includes 400 paintings, sculptures and jewelry by 200 artists including Charles Russell, Frederic Remington, Irving Couse, John Sharp and Bonnie Marris. Museum pieces were hand-curated from Tom and Mary James’ private collection, that until the museum opening, were housed at Raymond James Financial headquarters. Artwork showcases the American West from a historical and modern perspective. The brand new The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art, houses a variety of paintings, jewelry and artifacts in eight galleries with themes ranging from native peoples, to cowboys and wildlife. The museum also includes a 129 seat theatre, museum shop and cafe catered by Datz.

Bernice Chu serves as the interim director of the museum and her goal is to revive passion and interest in the American West, and make it relevant today for guests.

7 TIPS FOR HOSTING YOUR OWN MOTHER'S DAY TEA PARTY

1. Add Height For Impact. Serve your homemade sandwiches, scones and mini desserts on a 3-tiered server. Readily available in most home or kitchen stores, three tier servers are a must for entertaining. This is the classic tea party service style, not only functional for smaller tables or buffets, but

Mother’s Day and Sunday Brunch go together like Orange Juice and Champagne. This year skip the crowded restaurants and spend quality time with mom by hosting a Mother’s Day Tea in your own home. Since almost 50 percent of American’s claim to drink tea at least once a day, it is not surprising that the variety of teas, and tea accessories, is more vast than ever. But that doesn’t mean that hosting a Mother’s Day Tea needs to be complicated or take anymore effort than usual, in fact most hostesses likely already have everything they need to set a fabulous table tucked away in their own cabinets.

also the prettiest way to serve all your tasty treats. 2. Get Fancy. This is the time to bring out your fanciest china. If you don’t have any of your own borrow moms. Believe me, she will appreciate your interest and that her plates are finally being used by the family. 3. Filler Up. Instead of a standard floral centerpiece, decorate the table with teapots, creamers or even extra tea cups, filled with flowers. This keeps the theme consistent, not to mention it looks super cute. 4. Stay Neutral. Cover the table or buffet with a solid white or slightly off-white tablecloth; this helps the table feel a bit more fancy plus the colors of the tea sandwiches, flowers and your china will pop against a neutral backdrop. 5. Let Them Choose. Offer Mom and your guests an assortment of loose teas to choose from. Consider one from each category such as white, green or black. Or get more creative and offer varieties that include notes of Mom’s favorite flowers such as lavender, or her favorite spices such as cinnamon or cloves. Be sure to label each selection. 6. Be Sweet. Local honey and cubed raw sugar add an extra special touch to the tea and table. Be sure to place a small plate under the honey to catch drips. Sugar tongs are part of many silver services but if yours have been misplaced, use a small spoon for the sugar cubes. 7. Mix + Match. Don’t worry too much about all your tea cups or plates matching. These days the rules go out the window when it comes to

Lifestyle Contributor Krayl Funch www.kraylfunch.com

mixing and matching styles, patterns and even metals (although be sure not to mix metals in the dishwasher). You will need at least one cup and one plate for each guest, but I always put out a few extra to save from searching around during the party, when someone is unsure where they have mistakenly put theirs down.

Sip & Shop on Beach Drive in St. Petersburg at Mermosa Winery + Boutique

Mermosa creator, Desiree Noisette

Everyone knows that most women love to shop and now, there is a new concept that combines sipping and shopping – Mermosa Winery + Boutique. Formerly known as the swim and resortwear mecca Cerulean Blu, Mermosa is elevating the experience with a release of mermaid-inspired sparkling wines, in addition to the boutique offerings. Situated along St. Petersburg’s waterfront, Mermosa is adorned with a glittery mermaid-scale bar, bright colors and textures that complement its tropical locale. Additional plans include adding an outdoor cabana lounge to elevate the shopping experience. “Our wines are like popping a bottle of paradise…in paradise,” says Mermosa creator, Desiree Noisette. “I wanted to serve my guests a refreshing wine while they shop on our hot Florida days, but everything I found for day-drinking was too heavy, too sweet or too artificial tasting.” As a self-proclaimed serial

entrepreneur, Desiree saw a problem and created a solution: Mermosa Sparkling Wines made with organic grapes. Some varieties have a touch of organic flavor, “but nothing too sweet,” explains Desiree. For wines with such a simple origin – organic grapes from Washington State and hints of organic juices from Florida – the process for making the wines is quite revolutionary. Desiree freely admits “I am not a wine expert, but I am lucky to know people who are.” She built relationships with industry experts in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, who helped develop a new winemaking process so that she could use fresh organic juices in her wines. Even her packaging is refreshing – sophisticated white bottles with a big metallic gold mermaid. She also plans to can several flavors including Mersecco, Mermosa, Merjito, Mergarita and Mertini – being released later this and next year. Desiree is optimistic about the reception of this new sip and shop winery

concept. “I hope it adds to our authenticity as a City,” Desiree says. “We love creating experiences that bring people of all walks of life together.” Cheers to that!

Mermosa is located at 400 Beach Drive, Suite 161 in downtown St. Petersburg. Open daily from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Mon. – Sat., 11 a.m -6 p.m. on Sun. www.mermosa.com | 727.498-8984.

Custom Coastal Chic Blending Views with a Custom Design in Sunset Park By Ronda M. Parag

C

reating and designing a custom home involves lots of decisions and vision. Homeowners and builders, Mark and Lori Todsen, created a majestic home in which to view the nightly sunsets and enjoy the waterfront views of the sparkling Boca Ciega Bay in Sunset Park, St. Petersburg.

Owners of Bayside Building Construction, Inc., Mark and Lori Todsen’s love of coastal and contemporary architecture, challenged the couple to marry the two styles in an appealing, timeless fashion. The Coastal Chic architecture with its seamless design of interior and outdoor space, incorporates the stunning waterfront location with quality craftsmanship. The 4,074 square foot two-story, five bedroom, five bath, open concept home, built in 2014, is nestled among majestic oak trees and tropical palms. Every attention to detail, from the inside to outside, was given, thus creating a coastal home with the relaxed feel and vibe of the beach. The exterior of the home has a gorgeous tabby shell stucco, that was a new product and cutting edge when the home was built. The lushly landscaped front yard opens to a spacious and private oasis, with the Boca Ciega Bay across the street. “We have spent many an evening and glasses of chardonnay on the beautiful front porch, enjoying the sunsets and shimmering water views,” said Lori Todsen. “The sunset’s filtered light illuminating the family room and kitchen has been cherished nearly every evening.” Living close to nature and water, the open floor plan allows plenty of natural light and warmth to shine through. The kitchen is every chef’s dream, with its spacious design and the cornerstone of any home. The Brown Fantasy Leathered granite countertop pairs nicely with the crisp white custom cabinets and farmhouse stainless sinks. The pantry is hidden behind sliding farm-style doors. The glass hanging fixtures over the large island add a contemporary, yet inviting feel.

The kitchen is designed to keep everything organized with open storage below the island. Drinks of choice, including beer and wine, can be kept in the separate beverage refrigerator. The gas range with a Dacor exhaust hood centers the kitchen. The dark wood wide plank flooring contrasts nicely with the bright and open plan. An adjacent dining room offers casual dining space and the unique beach wood lighting fixture adds a cozy feel. The soaring ceilings, enormous windows, double french doors and beautiful millwork create custom details throughout the home. In the living room, the wood floors add warmth and a natural feeling to the room, while the fireplace blends for a neutral, stylish scheme adding a casual ambience to the room. The home has two master suites on the first and second floors, as well as, a studio apartment. The crisp, white soaker tub is surrounded by the natural light of double windows in the master bathroom. The spacious double vanity has plenty of room for couples to get ready at the same time. Each of the bathrooms offers tub or showers and are done with warm and neutral tones. The separate laundry room is spacious and offers cabinets and plenty of extra storage space. The well-shaded outdoor porches and patios cooled by Intra-coastal breezes, take advantage of the beautiful Florida views and lifestyle. The additional outside spaces are large enough for shared seating areas, conducive to entertaining and relaxing with friends and family at the end of the day. Weekends can be filled with sun and fun lounging around with the sounds of the waterfall spilling into the salt water swimming pool. Boaters and fishing enthusiasts will appreciate the new walkway and dock that has a 10K LB Lift with stainless steel motor encasement. Perhaps the best feature of the home is its location. “The location is literally a

“best kept secret” as the neighborhood has a very quaint residential feel with lots of sidewalks, waterfront park, local shops, restaurants within an easy walk or bike ride distance off Central Avenue, and perfectly located for quick access between the beaches or downtown St. Pete,” said Realtor Nancy Wood. The casual elegance of the home is filled with light and warmth and offers the relaxed waterfront lifestyle the homeowners desired. M The custom built home is available for sale through listing agents Doug & Nancy Wood with Smith & Associates Real Estate. For more information or to view the home, contact

Bavaro’s Pizza Napoletana & Pastaria A passion for tradition is what drives Bavaro’s founder, Dan Bavaro, in his daily pursuit of creating delicious Italian foods. For truly Neapolitan style pizza, Bavaro’s is the original in Tampa Bay and the first traditional Neapolitan pizza in Florida. Using only the highest quality and imported ingredients of flour, tomatoes, meats and cheeses, the menu bursts with flavors. In fact, the pizza dough is made with a 100 year-old natural yeast starter, that Dan has had in his possession for 12 years. Weekends are a great time to dine at the St. Pete location with a special Italian-inspired Southern Brunch menu. Created by Executive Chef Logan Canavan and veteran Pizzaiolo, Nick Cacciatore, the menu includes savory and sweet dishes. Kick start the day with a delicious Farro Power Bowl made with two eggs, farro, homemade spicy sausage, sun-dried tomato, feta, roasted peppers and mushrooms. Other brunch favorites include Shrimp & Grits Italiano, Southern Biscuits & Gravy, Amaretto Pancakes and French Toast. Enjoy bottomless Mimosas, delicious Italian-inspired craft cocktails, beer and wine.

f you haven’t checked out the new Heights Public Market at Armature Works, then you are missing out. Opened in February 2018, the hot spot, along Tampa’s Riverfront, has been attracting crowds in the thousands during the week and on the weekends, the 22,000 square-foot space swells to capacity, attracting young families, couples, tourists and locals alike. The nearby Hall on Franklin kicked off the culinary sensation of a modern twist on a food hall, and now it’s elevated even further with Heights Public Market. Developed by Chas Bruck and Adam Harden of SoHo Capital, the re-imagined former maintenance facility for Tampa Electric’s streetcars, now houses 14 dining spots including a full service restaurant — Steelbach, a retail shop and show + tell space.

Each of the restaurants were selected for their unique concepts and offerings. Wine lovers will enjoy the center location of Cru Cellars, where guests can buy a bottle or a glass. “I have always loved food hall concepts, when I visit other big cities, and when I heard there would be one in Tampa, I knew Cru Cellars would be the perfect fit and compliment to the other vendors,” says Jennifer Bingham, owner and sommelier. “We have loved having our second location in the Armature Works space. The Armature team has done a tremendous job of activating such a beautiful part of the city, and we love that guests are sipping on great wine, while enjoying the beautiful views and amazing food from the independent restaurants in the market.” South Tampa favorite, Ava serves up their authentic wood-fired pizzas.
