Gown Guide
The Gown. A Creative Expression of Individuality. By Ronda M. Parag
T
he bridal gown is perhaps the most important decision to be made when beginning the planning for a wedding. The gown sets the stage and the entire wedding can be themed around the dress. When shopping for a gown, Ashley DuMutiis, Regional Manager of The White Magnolia Bridal Collection, offers this advice — the smaller the group the better. “Bring those one to three people who are key to making your decision and that give you advice you trust,” said DuMutiis. “Too many opinions can be very overwhelming and brides could end up with a gown that they wouldn’t have otherwise, if brides find themselves easily swayed! Less is more, when it comes to dress shopping.” “We are loving the boho beach bride right now,” said Sarah Crotty, Lead Stylist at Malindy Elene. “Our new line, Made with Love, is perfect for tropical weddings here in Florida.” Crotty also says that some brides think outside the box, brides with unique headpieces and funky earrings. “Brides are trying new lace patterns, low backs and long trains, while still loving that classic twist,” said Crotty. “It’s all about the back,” concurs Viktoria Jones, owner of The Bride Tampa. “Whether a bride is looking for simple lines in a dress or an extravagant design, she is always intrigued by a beautiful back. Gorgeous low backs, illusion panels and unique lace designs, are all a girl needs when it comes to her wedding gown,” said Jones. “We have a gorgeous selection of gowns with back details that are second to none.” From a super casual beach wedding to an elaborate church affair, each bride should search for the dress that captivates her passion and artistic style.

Celebrate In Style. The Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale | By Ronda M. Parag
Every bride-to-be wants her wedding to be like a dream and have her guests say it was one of the best experiences they have ever attended. Destination weddings are a popular way to provide a vacation to guests and create the ambience of a fairytale wedding. Not too far, only about a four hour drive from the Tampa Bay area, is the luxury world of The Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale. The brand reputation for The Ritz-Carltons’ are second to none and the entire team will execute a bride’s vision flawlessly. The Atlantic-front beach location of Ft. Lauderdale Beach provides an ideal
50
www.TampaBayWed.com
getaway for a destination wedding. Guests can experience all the fun of the area and the blissful couple can create a memorable wedding day. On property, there are three ideal locations for the ceremony. For larger wedding parties, the Grand Ballroom with its stunning crystal chandeliers and silk padded walls, can accommodate 100 to 350 guests. A more intimate ceremony can be set-up in the Astor Foyer, with its stunning ocean views with floor-to-ceiling windows, with up to 100 guests. And for the couple that wants an outdoor ceremony, the Poolside Terrace can be used after 7:00 p.m. for up to 250 guests.
When planning the reception and celebration, the culinary team will create a delicious and sumptuous dinner. There are several dining and drink packages available, or everything can be customized to the bride and groom’s taste. To personalize the reception, a signature cocktail is suggested to represent the couples’ personalities or theme. From passed cold and hot hors d’oeuvres, the options are extensive and can also be used for the First Course. To make the planning easier, The RitzCarlton has pre-selected choices for the dinner menu from a delicious selection of poultry, meat or seafood. There is also an
option of a Duo — meat and seafood. Included in the package is the wedding cake created by the talented pastry chef. If the couple doesn’t want a sit down dinner, the hotel does offer a heavy reception-style dinner option too with hot and cold stations. As the reception hums along, options like a Dessert Station or After Glow Stations, including South of the Border or Grilled Cheese Stations can be set up for the hungry guests. The hotel offers a luxury Spa that is ideal to relax and pamper before the big day. Guests can enjoy a signature massage or a special customized experience including a cleansing ceremony, intuitive ocean or rebalancing citrus spring. Also, the spa team can provide hair, makeup and nails to make the bride and her bridesmaids look gorgeous for the big day. The recently re-vamped Burlock Coast is an innovative restaurant, cafe-market-bar, that creates a great space for the wedding guests to enjoy cocktails or dine for breakfast, lunch or dinner. From the arrival of guests to the last dance of the reception, The Ritz-Carlton Fort Lauderdale will help create the TBW memories of a lifetime. 1 North Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, Fl 33304 954.302.6428 or fllrz.leads@ritzcarlton.com www.ritzcarlton.com

Wedding Checklist
Congratulations you’re engaged! Wedding bells will be ringing soon, but in the meantime it’s all about the planning. Here’s a helpful 12-month itinerary to make sure your big day goes off without a hitch.
10 to 12 Months This is the period of research and exploring, what kind of wedding do you want? Pretend you are a detective seeking the best of everything: style, venue, honeymoon, the works. ❑ Schedule engagement photos ❑ Mail out engagement announcements ❑ Set a date ❑ Meet clergy, especially if one of you is converting so you can start classes immediately ❑ Start making bride/groom guest list ❑ Decide on a budget ❑ Decide on indoor or outdoor wedding, be sure to keep in mind weather conditions for outdoor weddings and it’s always a good idea to have a backup plan ❑ Begin scouting locations for ceremony, reception and rehearsal dinner. ❑ Begin researching caterers, florists, photographers, musicians and bakers ❑ Make a list with fiancee of honeymoon destinations and songs for your first dance ❑ Decide on members of the wedding party ❑ Begin shopping for your wedding dress
7 to 9 Months Now it’s time to start narrowing things down. In order to have time for the details, it’s important to get some of the big stuff out of the way. ❑ Send engagement announcement to the local paper ❑ Order your wedding dress ❑ Decide on venue ❑ Choose clergy ❑ Choose your colors ❑ Take bridesmaids shopping for their dresses ❑ Take mom shopping for her Mother of the Bride dress ❑ Meet with florist and decide on flowers for venue, wedding party and reception ❑ Meet with caterer to decide on menu and schedule menu tasting ❑ Book photographer ❑ Meet with musicians to discuss play list ❑ Meet with travel agent about honeymoon ❑ Book reception venue and make deposit
4 to 6 Months Ok, take a deep breath and relax, but not too much. Look at all you’ve accomplished; now it’s time for the details. ❑ Finalize menu with caterer ❑ Finalize guest list ❑ Order wedding invitations ❑ Start shopping for wedding rings ❑ Make appointment with jeweler if want to custom design rings ❑ Meet with baker to view and taste cake options ❑ Order bridesmaids’ dresses ❑ Shop for and order fiancée and groomsmen tuxes ❑ Book honeymoon
