Stay True With Bridal Gowns For Every Style Gown Trends | By Ronda M. Parag
N
ow that you are engaged, it is time to start looking for the dress of your dreams. There are several trends this spring that may influence what you see in bridal fashions. Local bridal boutique manager from Malindy Elene, Danielle DiMarte says, “We have been noticing a floral lace trend lately. Also, strapless is looking like it is making a comeback, which I love, since we are in Florida and it can be very warm in the spring and summer. There also seems to be a good amount of clean fabrics on classic styles that feature a modern twist.” Another big trend in bridal gowns is the backless wedding dress in designers such as Berta “Athens” and MUSE collections, Winnie Couture, Katherine Tash, Tarik Ediz, Rita Vinieris and Daalarna. From a peek-a-boo low or mid back, to a full on wide, there is something that is just ultra feminine and chic about a backless dress. Framed with lace or crisp seamed edges, scallops, illusion back with floating buttons, light draping and even burnout, an exposed back not only accentuates the silhouette of the dress, but also gives that “drama” that everyone will remember as the bride walks down the aisle. “It’s always fun to keep a traditional bridal feel, and having your own personal spin on your overall bridal look,” says DiMarte. “Keep your bridal style true to you, and let your personality shine. Think of your dress as a way to express yourself, just like you do with your everyday fashion choices, just stepped up a little for your big day. You will not only feel comfortable, but your confidence will shine through in your wedding photos.” The best advice from Malindy Elene’s DiMarte is to go shopping with the people who matter most to you. “Take the pressure off and enjoy yourself in the moment,” says DiMarte. “Be prepared to find “the dress” on the first stop, it is completely normal and such an awesome feeling to say “yes” surrounded by people you love, in a dress you love, picturing the one you love.” TBW

Clif surprised Celia two months before their wedding with his own invitation saying, “Dear Celia, this is your invitation to spend forever with me. They enjoy sharing laughs and making great memories together with all of their friends. A Balance of Eerie and Elegant Ashlee and Jeff knew right off the bat they didn’t want a cookie cutter wedding. It was incredibly important that their big day reflect their personalities and relationship with each other. They love spending time outdoors together and opted for the perfect venue that allowed them to say their vows surrounded by nature and, of course, joined by not only their human loved ones but their adorable pups, Tucker & Finn.

Given that their wedding took place a few short days before Halloween, the couple wanted to incorporate some spooky details while keeping it subtle and romantic. Macabre nods to the holiday could be found accenting the reception space, including a couple of dearly departed “guests” in the form of faux skeletons, a “Pick Your Poison” bar menu and a dessert table complete with a “Til Death Do Us Part” cake topper! They struck the perfect balance of eerie and elegant.

Destination Wedding
Romance and Memories in Wine Country Sonoma County, California By Ronda M. Parag Vintners Inn
O
n a recent trip to tour unique wedding destinations in Sonoma, California, I was reminded that wine country, like a great vintage bottle, is best shared with loved ones. Sonoma County, with more than 425 wineries, has so much to discover and is perfect for a destination wedding or even a romantic honeymoon. Located just 45 minutes from San Francisco, or about 30 miles, Sonoma County is a convenient location for a destination dream wedding. When planning a destination wedding, it is best to engage the services of a local, and that would be Owner and Director, Stephanie Brown of Off The Beaten Path Signature Experiences (OTBP). The wedding planning team from OTBP offers exclusive venue locations throughout Sonoma County and can create the ultimate wedding experience including fantastic and delicious farm-to-table catering, wine tastings and unique experiences. OTBP often teams with Distinct Locations, a company that manages and arranges events at super-private and unique locations throughout wine country. My four days of exciting events and activities started with lunch at Servino Ristorante in Tiburon, California. The
82

views of San Francisco Bay were breathtaking, and the view of the city was off in the distance. Wedding guests could stop here for a delicious brunch with incredible dishes including Monterey Calamari, Salt Spring mussels, Heirloom Tomato salad, pasta dishes, and of course wine, including One Hope. It might also be nice to pamper yourself and the wedding party, with a day or deluxe treatment at the Osmosis Day Spa in Freestone, California. A unique treatment included a cedar enzyme foot bath. Relax and mediate all your wedding gitters away. If you need ideas and inspiration for your wedding, Encore Events is the source for linens and rentals in Sonoma County. We toured the warehouses and were certainly inspired by their selection, quality and creativity. Our group had a delicious lunch at the Front Porch Farm, in Healdsburg, nestled in the valley on the Russian Rivers. This event space would be ideal for a rehearsal luncheon or lawn reception next to an open style barn and outdoor kitchen. Surround yourself with orchards of peaches, rows of blackberries and strawberries and of course, they make
Front Porch Wines, that would be great to serve to friends and family. Another reception site included a French County Estate Lunch. The grounds were luxurious and the lunch created by OTBP showcased their culinary talents. Four unique wineries for the bridal party and guests to tour and possibly serve, at the wedding reception, include K Squared, Moshin Vineyards, Heidrun Meadery and Petroni Vineyards. K Squared is a small boutique winery in Artisan Alley in the town of Windsor, owned by Andrew and Julie Moore, and known for their Russian River Pinot Noir. Moshin Vineyards began in 1989 and was the dream of Rick Moshin and his family, located in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. Today, the Moshin Vineyard has a unique 4-tier Gravity Flow Winery and controls 28 acres of grapes, mostly Pinot Noir. Heidrun Meadery is a great stop for sparkling meads - which is wines made from honey rather than grapes. Located in Point Reyes Station, the wine was surprisingly good and refreshing. For a unique wedding and rehearsal dinner, I would highly recommend the cave at Petroni Vineyards. Petroni
Vineyards began with famed restauranteur Lorenzo Petroni’s dream of creating wine from the grapes of his native Tuscany, and the prized Sangiovese Grosso clone in the Sonoma soil. In 1992, he found a 37 acre estate atop the Mayacamas Range and has created a paradise complete with a home, guest house and dining and tasting cave available for private events. The estate is known for red wines that rival the old world Italian wines, and 100 percent certified organic estate extra virgin olive oil. We enjoyed an incredible dinner created by OTBP, décor by Encore Events, and live music by Keri Campbell Music. You are probably wondering, how will my guests get all their wine home? The wine will arrive home safely, and ready to share with friends and family with a wine suitcase by VinGardeValise sold locally by reseller, FlyWithWine. On our last night in Sonoma County, we experienced a wine country reception at a private estate, that is only available through OTBP. Under the outdoor lighting, I experienced a farm-to-table family style dinner with delicious ingredients from Beffa Springs Ranch, wine from K Squared Cellars and cocktails from Alley 6 Craft Distillery. The details and location of
Heidrun Meadery – Krista Marie Photography
this venue would create a magical ceremony and reception site. Other fun activities when tooling around Sonoma County include a stop for an authentic Italian ice or Soft Serve, at Amy’s Wicked Slush in Healdsburg. A perfect treat to serve at the reception. If you are an artisan cheese lover, take the wedding party for a visit to the Cowgirl Creamery in Marin for a cheese class and tasting. Visit the retail shop to bring home some of their fresh, bloomy and aged cheeses. I would suggest hiring a tour company that knows the area and can transport the wedding guests to the ceremony and reception. Beau Wine Tours has experienced drivers that know how to navigate the narrow and winding roads, and offers several wine tour and tasting options during a stay in Sonoma. A great place to stay is the Vintners Inn, the only AAA Four Diamond resort in Santa Rosa, CA. The California Green Lodging-certified resort sits on 92 acres of lush vineyards and beautifully landscaped grounds, with courtyards and fountains. New additions to the Inn include 44 new deluxe Vineyard View suites, one even with an outdoor bathtub,
along with a full-service spa and health club. Another hotel option for guests is Hyatt Regency Sonoma Wine Country, a rustic chic sanctuary set on 8 acres with 253 recently renovated guest rooms. The hotel brings a casual elegance to Wine Country with its earthy colors, textures and natural accents. A magical wedding in wine country, planned with the help of Off The Beaten Path, will allow all your dreams to come true and create memories that will last a lifetime. Wedding Checklist
Congratulations you’re engaged! Wedding bells will be ringing soon, but in the meantime it’s all about the planning. Here’s a helpful 12-month itinerary to make sure your big day goes off without a hitch.
10 to 12 Months This is the period of research and exploring, what kind of wedding do you want? Pretend you are a detective seeking the best of everything: style, venue, honeymoon, the works. q Schedule engagement photos q Mail out engagement announcements q Set a date q Meet clergy, especially if one of you is converting so you can start classes immediately q Start making bride/groom guest list q Decide on a budget q Decide on indoor or outdoor wedding, be sure to keep in mind weather conditions for outdoor weddings and it’s always a good idea to have a backup plan q Begin scouting locations for ceremony, reception and rehearsal dinner. q Begin researching caterers, florists, photographers, musicians and bakers q Make a list with fiancée of honeymoon destinations and songs for your first dance q Decide on members of the wedding party q Begin shopping for your wedding dress
7 to 9 Months Now it’s time to start narrowing things down. In order to have time for the details, it’s important to get some of the big stuff out of the way. q Send engagement announcement to the local paper q Order your wedding dress q Decide on venue q Choose clergy q Choose your colors q Take bridesmaids shopping for their dresses q Take mom shopping for her Mother of the Bride dress q Meet with florist and decide on flowers for venue, wedding party and reception q Meet with caterer to decide on menu and schedule menu tasting q Book photographer q Meet with musicians to discuss play list q Meet with travel agent about honeymoon q Book reception venue and make deposit
4 to 6 Months Ok, take a deep breath and relax, but not too much. Look at all you’ve accomplished; now it’s time for the details. q Finalize menu with caterer q Finalize guest list q Order wedding invitations q Start shopping for wedding rings q Make appointment with jeweler if want to custom design rings q Meet with baker to view and taste cake options q Order bridesmaids’ dresses q Shop for and order fiancée and groomsmen tuxes q Book honeymoon

q Make sure passports are current if going out of the country
2 to 3 Months Now things are beginning to take form and your dream wedding is unfolding right before your eyes. Just keep focus and have fun. q Order wedding rings q Confirm with florist all flowers for ceremony and reception q Order cake q Register for gifts q Shop and order party favors q Pick song for your first dance q Finalize play list with musicians
4 to 8 Weeks Everything is locked in, your dress is being tailored and everything is ordered. Now is the time to CONFIRM, CONFIRM, CONFIRM. q Mail wedding invitations q Order programs for the ceremony q Go with fiancée to get marriage license q Obtain, fill-out and mail all necessary forms for your name change q Pick up wedding rings and check fit q Final fitting for wedding dress and wedding party q Make appointment with hair and makeup stylist q Make nail appointment q Start shopping for honeymoon clothes q Purchase wedding party gifts q Purchase wedding gift for your fiancée q Pick up your dress and start wearing shoes around the house to ensure comfort on the big day q If traditionalist–make sure have something old, new, borrowed and blue q Plan rehearsal dinner q Pay final payment on reception hall
1 Week Can you hear the wedding bells? That’s right in just one week you’ll go from bride-to-be, to wife! Now just a few minor details before you walk down the aisle into happily ever after. q Confirm with EVERYONE, caterer, photographer, baker, florist to make sure everything is on schedule q Confirm wedding party picked up dresses and tuxes q Get everything packed for honeymoon q Pick up plane or cruise tickets and travel itinerary for honeymoon from travel agent q Hold rehearsal dinner and handout wedding day schedule to wedding party q Take bridesmaids out for brunch and a spa day for the last time as a single gal q Attend wedding rehearsal q Schedule two days for yourself, one for family and one for friends
