heir latest exhibition Double Agents – A Network that Never Sleeps is a tribute to all of the above. On show at 50 Works Gallery at 50 London Street in Lyttelton, the work of these visual storytellers is a catalyst for curiosity. Reflecting on the sentiment expressed through their work, the artists state, “It is on the seam of things that most of our works develop and evolve; this seam is a point of connection, but also a space of friction, tension and inevitable fragility. For us this territory reflects a basic human condition...to connect, work, play and test the space we inhabit in order to grow...and deal with crisis.” Having both enjoyed widely celebrated careers, their collaborative work interweaves drawing, painting, performative activities, video and installation with photography. They adopt a mixed media and mixed methodology approach to their projects and ideas come to life in what is described as a “process based research lab”. In 2016 they were the Supreme Winners of the New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Award, and in 2017, they received a Highly Commended Award in the Molly Morpeth Canaday Art Award. Edwards+Johann’s major exhibition, Rebels, Knights and Other Tomorrows with the Christchurch Art Gallery Outer Spaces Projects in 2014 was featured in the CAG Bulletin with an article Thieves in the Attic by Sally Blundell. efore the quakes, Min had a gallery in the Chemistry Building of the Arts Centre, and loved her time there. She has fond memories of the beauty and quietness it afforded as a working space, and looks forward to being part of its rich fabric once again. Min’s gallery will be called Min Kim Fine Arts and shall be located upstairs in the Boys’ High Building. “It looks down to Worcester Boulevard,” says Sue Stewart, Gallery Manager. Min and Sue have been busy lining up artists for Min’s opening at the Arts Centre in March 2017. Sue explains the intention behind this city central gallery. “We wish to showcase New Zealand artists and artisans – people who are really passionate about their work and have served long apprenticeships.”

Amongst the artists featured in Min’s new gallery are: Jane Blackmore, Rika Nagahata, Robin Slow and Rachel Walker. Min is an impressionist classical artist who went to Florence in 2005 to study painting. She says that Florence was the turning point in her life. Min likens her experience to that of an engine, which having being stripped down is rebuilt, but in a totally different way. “Going to Florence was the best choice of my life,” says Min. EXTRAORDINARY LIFE By Kate Pierson

A natural-born innovator, Bridget talks to Metropol about leading a life that has seen her in the company of fashion heavy-weights like Karl Lagerfeld and André Leon Talley and why Magpie Style was the next step in an already highly decorated career.

You have had a remarkable career in fashion and publishing – was this always an ambition for you? When I was at university, I wanted to be a photo-journalist, but was approached for the editor’s role of a teen magazine shortly after. Looking back, I’m sure it was because I was a cheap hire in that I could do the interviews, style and photograph the talent at the same time. I remember doing a cover shoot with Billie Piper and doing just that. Her people thought it was all a bit bizarre, as she was such a big star at the time.

here are few who can say they have walked the halls of fashion bibles like Harpers Bazaar, Cleo and Cosmopolitan as a publishing director. Bridget Hope, founder of personal fashion showroom Magpie Style, not only successfully navigated this extraordinary path for herself, but even more impressively excelled in the international publishing industry while her integrity and humility remained intact.

Having been raised by two very successful parents, how have you sought to forge your own identity? My parents started Fashion Quarterly in the 80s out of our garage loft in Idris road. They would work around the clock in that little loft and everything they made was earned by their own hard work. So, I learnt that if you put your head down and worked hard then you would get rewarded for your efforts. As kids, we always had to work for our money. I was a dishwasher and waited tables through uni, worked as a photographer’s assistant, cleaned houses and ran my own little car-washing racket on the weekends in our street. My twenties were then spent in 70-hour work weeks as an editor pretty much from the get go. I never did a gap year or backpack around Europe like my friends did, but I don’t regret it for a minute. It was basically head down after leaving school. Publishing can be brutal when you are working with a miniscule team, but it does teach you the ropes fast. As for forging your own identity, I think this comes from being good at something yourself over time. Growing up I knew that I was lucky to be surrounded by some very smart people and I am grateful for the opportunities it gave me.

What has been the most significant milestone in your career to date? Working as the publishing director for Harper’s Bazaar Singapore and going to New York for meetings in the Hearst Tower. Standing in that lobby with my little visitor badge was one of those rare “I have arrived” moments. It was very special to be surrounded by the best editors and publishers in the world. When you find yourself in that position, you really have to bring your A-game. I was quite star-struck meeting Glenda Bailey and Carol Smith from Harper’s Bazaar US for the first time. It was also pretty thrilling to have Karl Lagerfeld within arm’s-reach at a Chanel cruise show. I remember looking over at a colleague who was sitting next to André Leon Talley from US Vogue and I had to pinch myself. Your new venture, Magpie Style, is a personal fashion showroom – what makes it different or unique? The rise of online shopping has made the whole retail experience very impersonal. It has given us more choice, but it has reduced the personalised experience. I developed Magpie Style out of a desire to create a shopping experience for women to stop and catch their breath for an hour or two and focus on themselves – with some genuine advice on hand. It is a shopping environment that focuses wholly on a women’s personal experience, where I can help them find the perfect pair of pants, a great work outfit or even just slowly contribute to their wardrobe over time in a meaningful way. It’s a different philosophy than just going out shopping. The showroom has been carefully designed in the style of a very feminine oversized dressing room. It is fully stocked and operates like a shop – except you get the special privilege of having the whole shop and a personal shopper all to yourself. We also have an online store, for those who can’t make it to the showroom. This will also act as a research tool for those wanting to see a slice of what we have. I have tried to make the website as personal as possible by giving styling and sizing notes to each individual garment. It’s a hassle to have to send something back, so I’m keen to make the experience as seamless as possible for customers.

What is your own personal style and what role does style play in communicating a personal identity? I am a bit of a Magpie in that I am drawn to beautiful things – which is a shared thread in most women. My base wardrobe is full of quality black and navy basics which I style up with colour and prints. I love a print – but you have to be careful with prints. Patricia Field, costume designer for Sex & The City once said, “once you wear a statement print, it’s kind of done”. So, I try to buy prints that are not too definitive of a single designer or season. What does a day in the life of Bridget Hope look like? My children jump into bed with us at about 7am (unless they are already there) and it’s generally a coordinated effort to get everyone to the breakfast table. I try to do some exercise with my husband – a walk or weights at home. Client appointments start at 10am which takes me through to around 5ish. A glass of chardonnay is poured and then some downtime spent with the kids. Dinner with husband is either together, or not – depending on his conference calls (and how many online orders I need to pack – hopefully lots!). We crash into bed at around 10pm, when we should go to sleep, but instead binge-watch far too many episodes of something very academic like - Suits, Homeland or Sons of Anarchy. Or if he is away – The Return of The Gilmore Girls! Do you have a favourite mantra? “Life’s too short to stuff a mushroom.” My mother says it all the time and it makes me laugh.

The performance ended inside the Museum, signifying Nina’s reclamation of a space for herself within a building that remains an edifice built from colonial power despite being a storehouse of Polynesian Taonga. “It was brave of the museum,” Amelia says. “And they were so open and supportive of this performance piece.” Leafa’s Me and My Salu Lima performance began outside the Cardboard Cathedral on 12 February. Leafa used her salu lima (hand broom) to sweep the simple, repetitive sweeping movements being representative of the hard work carried out by migrant workers of previous generations. “It was due to the manual work of migrants that their children were able to attend universities and gain better lives. So much is conveyed in this humble gesture,” Amelia says. Faith performed her Confessions – Let it Burn on 12 February. In Samoa, shame is often a public experience, so Faith mimicked this very traditional part of her culture by reading aloud her written confession. It was up to her mother (Leafa) to listen, understand or forgive her daughter. Vaimaila Urale’s Typeface, 23 -25 February, used the computer symbols ‘v’, ‘>’, ‘<’, ‘/’, and ‘\’, to create a Polynesian inspired mural at Artbox, Ara Polytechnic. The final part to the performance was the tattooing of this design onto a volunteer. Vaimaila’s work comments on being Samoan in a Western environment, and the impact a digital age has on traditions and values in contemporary life. “I have so enjoyed working with these artists,” Amelia says. “And I look forward to working with them again in the future.” For further information email amelia@coca.org.nz

The Southern Lakes Festival of Colour continues to cement its role as New Zealand’s “best little arts festival”.

his year’s festival features several international performances including four hit shows from Edinburgh Fringe Festival – New York cabaret star Lady Rizo’s Indigo Child, award-winning Every Brilliant Thing, the Irish one woman play How to Keep an Alien and German flipbooks creator Volker Gerling’s Portraits in Motion. “The seven international shows – awardwinners from Edinburgh and music from the United States, Canada, Germany and Australia – have been standout highlights

for me and take this year’s festival up a notch,” says Festival of Colour Director Philip Tremewan. Several New Zealand productions will be on the stage including Hudson and Halls Live! and the world premieres of No Science to Goodbye by Wanaka writer, Annabel Wilson; poet Bill Manhire’s song and music performance Tell Me My Name; a sing-off between four local choirs called Sing It To My Face, plus a full music programme being staged in the Central Lakes Trust Crystal Palace. The festival’s diverse music programme includes country star Tami Neilson, ukulele trio The Nukes and renowned classical pianist Michael Houston who is performing in two shows playing Bach’s Preludes

and Fugues and leading the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in two Mozart concertos. Aspiring Conversations, the festival’s literary, science and socio-political debating forum is back for 2017 and running throughout the event is Schoolfest – a programme for schools at all levels featuring workshops and performances. “We have established ourselves a fine track record of consistently being the best little arts festival in the country,” Philip says. “We continue this year with an action-packed programme of theatre, music, dance, visual arts, film discussion and debate bringing the world to Wanaka.” The Festival of Colour runs 4 – 10 April 2017 in Wanaka and the Southern Lakes.

SURFING

Few may know that beloved New Brighton Beach was actually the first home of surfing here in Aotearoa. In February 1915, legendary Duke Kahanamoku from Hawaii introduced surfing to New Zealand by riding a wooden surfboard in front of a crowded New Brighton beach.

n February 2015, the New Brighton Pier and Foreshore Society celebrated the centenary of this by erecting a replica Hawaiian wooden surfboard and commemorative plaque. In March 2016, the very first Ray White New Brighton Duke Festival of Surfing was held, and it was so successful that another is planned for 2017. From tomorrow, 17 March until 26 March, a celebration of surfing will be held in remembrance of ‘The Duke’, his sport and to further promote the wonderful spirit of the New Brighton and beachside communities. There will be three days of surfing competitions held beside the New Brighton Pier. These competitions are sanctioned by The South Island Surfing Association and Surfing New Zealand, which means that competitors can all earn circuit points for their various events. Last year there were 207 entries with surfers travelling from as far north as Whangarei and as far south as Dunedin. More entries are expected this year with entries already confirmed from Australia and the North Island. “We will have the best age group surfers in New Zealand competing as well as some of the best longboard surfers in New Zealand,” Festival Organiser Warren Hawke says. The age group short board surfers range from under 12 years through to under 20 years, with Open Longboard Men’s and Women’s, Open Traditional

Adding to the surfing action, organisers are also hitting the repeat button on another successful event from last year - The Eco Frame and Mirror Surf and Beach Art Exhibition will be held at the Fiksate Gallery in New Brighton Mall. This show is curated by local artist Josh O’Rourke and this year features local and emerging artists as well as some established New Zealand artists including Simon Kaan, Tony Ogle, Justin Summerton and Kees Bruin. A new display will feature 100 surfboards and surfing memorabilia dating back to the 1950s. This is being held in a shop space in the middle of New Brighton Mall. The festival will also provide around 100 free surfing lessons to kids from beachside schools as well as an art competition for these schools. For the general public, two rock concerts will spoil the senses along with a free open-air surf movie night to be held at the beach side amphitheatre in front of the War Cenotaph on Friday 24 March beginning at 6pm. Christchurch audiences were in for the treat of their lives then when the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna O Waiwhetu kicked off their 2017 Gallery Gigs with the man himself. Grayson Gilmour appeared with his band on 3 March, and held his audience spellbound with music from his album Otherness, due for release in mid-2017. Growing up in Palmerston North, Gilmour has said music was his way out of small town life. He began playing the piano at five, and released his first solo album while still a student at Palmerston North Boys High School. Signed to Flying Nun Records since 2010, Gilmour has a lot to be proud of. His last album Infinite Life was nominated for the Best Alternative Album at the 2014 New Zealand Music Awards. His foray into film composing was hugely successful with Gilmour receiving awards for Best Score at the 2012 NZ Film Awards for the film The Most Fun You Can Have Dying, and the 2015 APRA Silver Scrolls for the feature length drama Consent: The Louise Nicholas Story. Grayson was supported by local space goddesses New Dawn, and sisters Clementine and Valentine Nixon of Purple Pilgrims.

Internationally, the number of women who fall pregnant through using their frozen eggs ranges from 5 to 50 percent. The success rate depends predominantly on the number of eggs that were frozen and the age of the woman at the time her eggs were frozen. “Just as there is no absolute guarantee that woman will fall pregnant through IVF, there is no guarantee that women will become pregnant using frozen eggs.” The process to remove and freeze eggs is the same process followed for IVF. After harvesting, the eggs are frozen very quickly in liquid nitrogen – the New Zealand Government has set a ten year limit for keeping the eggs and people can extend this for five years at a time. he extravagant musical opens at the Isaac Theatre Royal on 24 March and runs until 8 April, utilising over 700 costumes, wigs and headdresses from the UK touring show, and a brand new big pink bus! The iconic movie was a surprise runaway Oscar winning hit when released in 1994. The show’s flamboyant storyline, tracing the bus journey of a trio of drag queens from Sydney to Alice Springs,

was translated to the musical stage in 2006. The musical’s enormous international success has seen versions staged from South Korea to Sao Paulo and in just about every language including French, Portuguese, Spanish, Greek and Swedish. Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is without doubt Australia’s most successful theatrical export. The leading trio of stars in Priscilla is that of two drag queens, Mitzi and Felicia, and an older

transsexual Bernadette, who find love, friendship and tolerance in the most unlikely places when on a road trip to perform at Alice Springs Casino. The principal role of transsexual Bernadette is performed by Cameron Douglas who has enjoyed a busy career since graduating NASDA in 2002, including performing in over 20 musicals. The two other lead roles will feature Isaac Pawson (Tick/Mitzi) and Tom Worthington (Adam/Felicia), both graduates of NASDA who are carving out careers in musical theatre. Providing many of the pumping disco hits that Priscilla has become synonymous with are the three flying Divas: Emily Burns, Naomi Ferguson and Jane Leonard accompanied by a rocking live band lead by musical theatre maestro, Richard Marrett. Priscilla’s message of tolerance, diversity and anti-bigotry is as relevant today as when the film was first released in 1994. URBAN CYCLING IN ACTION It’s official. Cycling is cool again. Worldwide, bicycles are taking back the roads, and one business in Christchurch making it happen is Action Bicycle Club, the city’s only store dedicated to urban commuter cycling.

o-owners Charlotte Bebbington and Ken Ching opened their Walker Street store and workshop in November 2016, and have been encouraging the city’s cyclists with a vast range of bicycles for rent and sale. “Our aim is to get more people riding bikes, especially women,” Charlotte says. Cycling has come a long way since men threw stones at women who dared to ride bicycles in public. One of Charlotte’s goals is to learn more about cycle maintenance and repair - something other women are doing too. On the second Wednesday of each month, Charlotte helps run Wheel Womyn Wednesday, a RAD Bikes initiative at The Commons in the central city. The team runs workshops targeted at ladies who want to learn about and share their knowledge of all things cycling. Action Bicycle Club rents, sells and services bicycles. Business partner, Ken, runs the workshop where he fixes all kinds of bikes. It has a range of electric bikes, and cargo bikes to encourage urban travel and business solutions. It also specialises in city bikes and quality classic cycles in chic designs and colours. t the forefront of fostering boundary-pushing performing arts, The Gloucester Room innovates, inspires and incubates talent. On now for four nights (15-18 March) is Swallow. A candid and thought-provoking look into the lives of three strangers who are facing their demons head-on, it addresses realities affecting people the world over – from lost love to identity struggles. Producer/Director Garry says, “I used the Gloucester Room last year for another production, Amateur Girl and found that it suited the intimacy required for the type of play being staged. It’s a great venue, and the support offered is top notch – they make it as stress free as possible.” On 26 March at 8pm, The Nukes will take the stage at the Gloucester Room, dazzling audiences with their reckless and riveting live performances – a blend of folk, bluegrass, reggae and post-punk. A

workshop will be held between 5-6pm so audience members can enjoy the thrill of learning from the band pre-performance. The same day, prestigious TV, Film & Theatre Actor Peter Feeney will host a Christchurch Weekend Workshop from 9am-4.45pm, yet another great educational opportunity for community engagement. Peter says, “This workshop focuses on screen acting at a time when more TV and film production activity is opening up in Canterbury, and not much training specifically for screen is available. “In this workshop I offer up the results: what works; practical techniques that help the actor get in to the writer’s head and bring the thoughts and feelings of their character to life on screen. I will seek to impart good habits for lifetime learning. Owners Jacqui Ballantyne and Tania Smith have perfected the flexible menu styles to cater for up to 120 people, for all occasions. “There’s been 30th to 80 plus birthdays, work dos who’ve also enjoyed a round of golf next door, engagements, weddings and after-wedding parties.” The chic but rustic function room opens to a large patio, framed by pineapple palms and lush lawns for relaxing outdoors. It’s only 15 minutes from town, but set amidst rolling countryside. Sunday afternoons see live music playing in the courtyard, and a mustering-style shelter for live

bands is soon to be built. Bordering Halswell River, Jacqui has seen guests arrive in canoes and jet boats - and the 2.5 acre grounds make a perfect helicopter-landing pad. The Tap restaurant is popular for leisurely ladies’ lunches of perhaps crab cakes or corn fritters with salad. Qualified chefs, who have the perk of living upstairs, also make hearty country-style meals such as Angus minute steak sandwiches with bluecheese sauce, perfect with a local Pinot Gris or a 3 Wolves Pale Ale. Each week day she’s there at 3.30am, preparing delicious café food. Cakes, pastries, croissants and sandwiches, salads and bagels, all made with fresh daily ingredients.

ur homemade, gourmet pies are incredibly popular,” Olivia says. Box Café is favoured by locals. It serves the office and industrial area from 6.30am until 4pm, five days a week with a selection of hot and cold drinks, smoothies and milk shakes, and the finest Vivace Union Blend Coffee. Take food and coffee away – a perfect option for busy people wanting lunch on the run, or enjoy it in the charming courtyard setting. Olivia, who has a solid history in hospitality, opened Box Café in January

2016. She designed the black and white striped theme that sets the café apart from the industrial background. There’s off street parking and it’s a very relaxed, familiar place. It’s the kind of place where regulars and staff are on a first name basis. “Customers end up becoming friends,” Olivia says. It’s obvious as she laughs and engages with a stream of lunch buyers. ebruary saw internationally renowned Ghanaian-British architect Sir David Adjaye come to our shores. Knighted for being one of the leading architects of his generation and a global cultural ambassador for the UK, he is recognised as a ‘world of influence in architecture’. Yet in a radio interview with one of our more well-known presenters he was asked whether his involvement in a recent project was awarded to him due

to the colour of his skin, undermining one of the world’s most prolific and highly skilled architects in a few short words. Listening to the interview got me thinking, why do architects not have the same level of respect and value placed on them as other highly trained professions? If you are sick, the natural inclination is to turn to a doctor, so why when you are building is the same inclination not applied to using an architect or design

professional? Why are the skills and value they can add to a project so easily ignored, or dismissed? As a profession, architects themselves are not necessarily seen to be doing a lot to showcase the value we can add. Consider the way architecture is marketed: it is all about shiny, glossy images, promoting a sense of betterment rather than relatability. Stuck in a cycle of selfpromotion, this marketing is at the core of

What isn’t marketed, or told, is the value that we, as design professionals add to the fabric of our architectural landscape what we do. If the project isn’t deemed worthy of an online blog or high-end magazine, the story and design remains untold. As architects we desire these projects. We are often fueled by the ‘hero’ image of a building: a two-dimensional picture that is celebrated through publicity in the media and used as an integral part of judging in industry awards. A picture that subsequently results in the engagement of

new projects of the same ilk. What isn’t marketed, or told, is the value that we, as design professionals, add to the fabric of our architectural landscape. We don’t talk about the buildings in the background, the buildings that are the heart, or the core, of our city. We simply celebrate the foreground. What the high-end glossy pictures don’t share are how the years of training and unique skills, possessed by the architect,

are working harmoniously together to achieve an efficient, functional and cost effective result that also ticks all the boxes for appearance. The fact that a building looks good, that it pushes the boundaries of design, or that it is polarizing in its aesthetics, is overshadowing the value it is adding to the end user and the environment in which it is found. If we continue to undermine the impact an architect can have on our built environment, the heart of our city has the potential to lose out. As the buildings in the foreground shine, the essence of the city will fade, leaving in its place structures that fail to add value to how we live, interact, and experience the landscape of our city. It is reported that architects are involved in less than five percent of the housing market; a shocking figure that needs to change at a public and professional level. Don’t assume that an architect won’t be interested in your project. The reality is, that no matter what the parameters, a good designer will be able to improve the value of your project – in every sense of the word, every time. As architects we need to ask ourselves how we can be more relevant, and as consumers we need to be asking whether not having that value added is good enough. I was fortunate to attend a cooking class last year where the chefs were masters with slicing, dicing and chopping techniques.

canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t say my skills improved all that much (Iâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;m domestically challenged), but I will say I definitely learnt the importance of investing in a quality knife set and cutting block. It seems a rather mundane topic, but as I discovered, there is quite a lot to consider if you want your money to be well invested. With good looks and a thick skin, wood and bamboo options have become increasingly popular. The pros are that they are eco-friendly and have proven to be sanitary however they can potentially make your knives blunt, and are not a big fan of being run through the dishwasher because their material can be warped and damaged by the heat and soaps. On the flipside, plastics may not look as pretty, but they are easy breezy when it comes to popping them into the dishwasher and are excellent for cutting raw meat as they clean so quickly and there is likely less risk for cross-contamination. If in doubt, shop around. Chop to it!

The virtual cockpit really feels like something special. An LCD, bespoke dash tickles the fancy and stokes the curiosity. You put your foot on the accelerator and there is a smooth, instant response. When it comes to the design of the interior, as a leather-lover, it fit the bill. The leather combined with the quintessential Audi-style stitching means the experience is more than just driving - it’s a pleasure. I’m not ashamed to admit I really was looking for any excuse to drive it while I had it. I recommend you zip down to Archibalds in Tuam Street to try what I consider to be one of the best drives since I discovered that Audi is every bit as magnificent as it promises to be. I’m big on first impressions and this one stole my heart from the moment I saw it. It looks great and performs with power and elegance. You can always recognise quality and that is what you get with the Audi A4. And then some.

reviewing the video, it’s easy to see that Triumph’s marketing is pretty sharp and probably aimed at a guy just like me. You love the bike, you love the attitude, and it’s just really appealing. The Bobber has the urban sports attitude that makes you want to hit the road and drive with a friend to an out of the way café or bar and park it out front. It’s got an edge as a bike that dares you to hit the back roads or blast around town. From the unique chassis set up, ride by wire, ABS and torque assist clutch to the lighter exhaust, the bells and whistles are intriguing. Better yet, you can mix things up with bespoke style and a pile of additions available. With a floating aluminium seat pan, distinctive swing cage, wide flat bars and brushed metal detailing, this bike is built for fun and loaded with style. Featuring such clean lines, it’s hard for me not to be wowed by this work of art a high calibre two wheeled beast of a machine. Triumph has been doing it long enough that you know you’ve got a reliable machine. Stripping the Bonneville down to its pure essence, the Bobber has the quintessential Triumph character. It delivers on the power as well. I could go on and on, but I guess you’re just going to have to check it out at First European for yourself. A slick 6 speed gear box with 1200cc, it’s a brutal beauty built with looks and built for speed. In fact, it’s built for everything the bad boy needs.

Well this is a story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down. So let me tell my story, just sit right there, and let me tell you how I lost … my car key!

don’t think you realise quite how important that little object is on a modern-day vehicle do you? ‘Oh, I’ll just have another cut if I lose it’. Well, this article is a warning to take my advice and prepare for Armageddon should you lose the master. After a mishap with my boys’ bikes along the side of the paintwork, my Audi was off for repairs where I was issued with a loaner. Fast forward a few days and taking the kids for a surf on a Sunday afternoon seemed like a great idea. Locking all our valuables in the loan car and popping the key in the front of my wetsuit pouch was not. Through a stupid scenario, I lost said key in the surf. What do you do? Unfortunately, you only have one option. Call a locksmith with a $250 call out fee. Most modern cars come with keys that contain a chip in the key that sends a message to the computer telling it you’re using a legitimate key and not a fake. Any other key won’t work.

The scenario quickly became worse with no phone. All I had on was a wetsuit in 30 degrees with two young boys in the same situation. What was meant to be a straightforward adventure at the beach turned into a 7-hour mammoth ordeal that cost me dearly. The story goes that if you lose your master key, prepare to pay more than $2000 dollars to have it replaced, tow trucks and locksmiths not included especially if it’s a loaner and you are not covered by insurance. Matt Stubbs from 0800 Locked Out told me, “You should always have at least two keys; people lose one and choke about paying a couple of hundred for another one. That’s a much better alternative to the drama and cost that happens when you lose the last one, isn’t it Nick?” It was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had and I want to spare you that pain. If you only have one key to the car, get another cut immediately!

I DON’T THINK YOU REALISE QUITE HOW IMPORTANT THAT LITTLE OBJECT IS ON A MODERN-DAY VEHICLE WELL, PREPARE FOR ARMAGEDDON SHOULD YOU LOSE THE MASTER.
