Extend the existing patio to provide a larger entertainment space

A Birmingham-based multidisciplinary engineering firm is set on burying our existing perceptions about subterranean refuse in 2019. New legal requirements for Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) rainwater drainage on developments across Wales apply from 7th January, heralding wider use of concrete block permeable paving.

The main paving used within the garden was London Stone, Khaki and the paving featured in the pathway is Bradstone, Madera, both of these are Porcelain which is proving extremely popular due to its toughness and the ability to provide and ultra modern look matching a homes interior. Whilst the majority of the garden is on one level, there are also steps which run down to a lower path at the side of the house. The garden also comprised Cedar screening to add privacy and a sunken trampoline for the children. The play area also has recycled rubber chippings from Monster Mulch and a large climbing frame, which creates the perfect soft surface for outdoor play. The lighting which Jack designed compliments the screening wonderfully and creates the perfect night time ambiance, added to by the contemporary fire pit installed at the back of the garden. The elegant lighting around the seating area finished the garden beautifully and created an aesthetic exactly as the client desired. We all thoroughly enjoyed building this exceptional garden and look forward to working alongside Richard on many projects in the future.

The garden landscape is completed by the shed workshop and its bed of plants in front of it, including the Cercis Canadensis ‘Hearts of Gold’ tree, Penstemon Heavenly Blue, Verbena Rigida and Cineraria. The riven and undulating texture of the Old Rectory Sandstone establishes a rustic feel to the garden, accomplishing a timeless landscape. The warm tone of colours throughout the garden complement each other, from the plants to the wooden furniture and workshop shed. Though new paving was laid for this project, the existing landscape already included Global Stone Old Rectory paving in York Green in place from over 12 years ago. After pressurised cleaning and repointing, the paving looks brand new which shows that, with maintenance and care, the Old Rectory is a timeless paving that adjusts with the times and is always in fashion. The clients said of the landscape and work involved: ‘The standard of work was so high. The upheaval of such a project might have felt overwhelming were it not for the confidence we were able to have in Archley Landscape Designs and the others, and the great sense of humour that they breathed through it all. We are delighted with the end product and we both think it is out of this world.’ Good teamwork and an excellent product resulted in a landscape filled with character, space, colour and, above all, a timeless and classical Suffolk garden.

EVEREDGE In 2018 EverEdge were tasked to supply plastic powder coated steel planters for the redevelopment of two Grade II listed Regency Villas. The Villas are being developed for Pegasus Life to provide 50 apartments. Glen Howells Architects have designed the project to fit in seamlessly into the distinguished streets of Montpellier, Cheltenham. Sky Garden, the contractor on this project, came to EverEdge to provide the steel planters. The planters are 900mm tall and have been designed to fit between existing structures on the roof of the building. The planters are filled with a mixture of void former, grit, bark and 300mm of topsoil. Because of the size of the planters, they are braced for strength and to prevent the steel from bowing. The planters are made from durable steel for longevity and finished in a light grey powder coat which matches beautifully the building. All the planters have an internal jointing system which was a requirement on this project to give them a near seamless appearance. EverEdge Planters are available in virtually any design, shape and size and in a range of finishes making them the perfect addition to any project.

LDA Design, Glasgow Landscape Contractor: Ashlea Limited The establishment of the flowering lawn has been excellent, one of the best we have ever seen and I am sure the warm weather was the main contributing factor. Being so far north in Scotland the site is subject to ever changing weather conditions and an almost constant wind. It has been a pleasure to work on this project and we always turn immediately to Greentech as our landscape supplier. They always supply what we need; when we need it; at the most competitive prices. Their John Chambers Wildflower Seed is hand prepared and of excellent quality. We have used their seed on many other projects; always with outstanding results. “

LUC WINS LANDSCAPE INSTITUTE AWARD FOR CASSIOBURY PARK RESTORATION

GIVE YOUR GARDEN THE EDGE ON SUSTAINABILITY

LUC won a 2018 Landscape Institute Award in the Heritage & Conservation category for the regeneration of Cassiobury Park in Watford.

become is taking the sustainability message to the great outdoors by launching a garden edging that is made from 100% recycled household plastic.

LUC was lead consultant for the Heritage Lottery Funded scheme to rejuvenate this popular open space rich in history.

Eco Edge is stylish, strong and as easy to work with as wood, making it an ideal edging for gardens and landscaped public space. Unlike wood, however, it is rot-proof, needs no varnishing, staining or preservative making it cost-effective, flexible and long lasting.

Working for Watford Borough Council, we restored surviving historic features such as the monumental Lime Avenue, carriage drives and estate watermill ruins; recreated iconic features of the picturesque parkland such as the tea pavilion and gardens, reinstated the Bandstand and refurbished the popular water play area, allied to a new park hub building.

www.landuse.co.uk 0117 929 1997

Straight Eco Edge is available in straight pieces for linear borders. Rolled Eco Edge comes on a roll for bends and slopes. Both are available in dark grey and brown in 10, 18 and 25 metre lengths, and all are 14cm deep and 0.7cm wide.

LONG RAKE SPAR For over 150 years, Long Rake Spar have been supplying decorative aggregates to trade including Landscapers, Designers, Contractors and into Builders Merchants. We have gained national status as one of the UK’s largest suppliers of hard landscaping products. For 2019 we are delighted to introduce 3 stunning new products into our decorative range. These products were chosen to tie into current market trends which have seen sales in grey landscaping stone outsell the traditional tones of gold and buff. All three products provide an on-trend colour pallet that complements the wide range of grey and charcoal paving currently used extensively within landscaping designs. The three new products are Graphite Chippings 14mm as well as Heritage Quartz gravel and Ocean Blue pebbles; both available in 10mm, 14, and 20mm sizes. Our Graphite Chippings are stunning silver granite chippings with flecks of blue/grey tones which deepen when the product is wet. This hardwearing gravel will provide a contemporary feel to any landscape design. The Heritage Quartz is an angular gravel which features undertones of grey overlaid with blends of pink and orange. Due to its mixed colour pallet, this product works fantastically in both traditional and modern settings. Finally our Ocean Blue Pebbles are a rounded stone with blue/grey colour tones. This limestone product is naturally sea worn and has been a popular addition to our landscaping range.

GKB DELIVER SPECIFICALLY ADAPTED 4FT TOPAIR FOR HARROW SCHOOL THE WORKER IS KING, MACHINES THAT MEET THE EXACT EXPECTATIONS AND DEMANDS OF THE CUSTOMER GKB Machines Operations Manager for UK & Ireland, Tom Shinkins has recently delivered a Topair to Harrow School to assist the team of 11 ground staff and golf wardens improve and maintain both the quality and playability of every pitch/course and outdoor sports surfaces at the school. Mike Kemmett, Grounds Manager of Harrow School explains, “I initially tried the 6ft machine, and although this was great on the pitches and outfields, I wanted something slightly more compact so I could use on the golf course greens and tees to help combat the grubs with the removal of many products, this disc slicing actions would mean I can slit the greens very regularly to help fight against pest damage with minimal surface disruption and perform very quickly, so Tom built the machine like for like but in a 4ft version.” Surrounded by 320 acres of sports fields ranging from AstroTurf pitches to a 9-hole golf course there

GRA SEE is plenty for the groundsmen at Harrow School to be looking after. The modified Topair provides versatility and reliability to the teams’ daily maintenance program, the perfect addition to the family of GKB machines already purchased by Harrow School. “The machines are probably the best built on the market, and what swings it for me is that the cost of parts should they ever need replacing are very reasonably priced” Mike adds.

Alongside build quality at a reasonable cost, both in purchase and running costs, GKB Machines pride themselves on customer service and developing machines to meet the exact expectations and demands of the customer. GREEN BUILDINGS Green Building, green construction, or sustainable building is not new; it’s the practice of designing, constructing, and operating buildings to minimize resource use, reduce waste and avoid negative environmental impacts. For 25 years - and more - we've been designing, manufacturing and constructing 'Green Buildings' and components in a 'Green way. Creating buildings that deliver a positive impact on our climate and natural environment. It's in our DNA! Low Energy Buildings are what we are about. By helping reduce your energy consumption we help you reduce your energy bills, increase your property value and, if you’re a business, increases your profits and marketing potential. If you’re a homeowner it gives you more free cash to spend on the other things you’d like in life. Lifestyle Living is, therefore, one more box our buildings can tick for you. It’s also one of our aims when working with you and your professional advisors. Understanding the way you live and operate, sharing your aspirations for ‘something better’ is part of what drives us. Going Green is not a fad or a fashion. It is a way of life and an important reason for adopting an eco-friendly lifestyle,

making conscious decisions about sustainability, reducing harm to our world and creating positive conditions for the environment to flourish and thrive. Green buildings conserve precious natural resources and improve our quality of life.

Top Tips for Building Green Decide on your energy systems and on-site generation • Solar | Wind | Geothermal Specify your Thermal Insulation in relation to your: • Site location, building orientation and surroundings • Heating / cooling / climate systems • Preference for natural, recycled or other sustainable materials Assess the health and comfort factors Choose materials, like wood, that: • Are good natural insulators • Are easily and economically recycled • Have good ‘end of life’ value Consider prefabrication of components and building elements: • That minimise waste both off-site and on-site • For managing the site to improve the environment • With ‘lean manufacture’ to reduce energy use

The precision manufactured frames enable you to start with the smallest models and then, as and when the need arises, add to the structure, either at the end, the side, or by replacing the roof.

Re-Locateable Sectional Buildings • Unique solutions for low cost, affordable housing delivered quickly • Emergency, temporary & permanent accomodation problems solved • Comfortable Homes for retirees, keyworkers, young and homeless people • Mobile & Relocatable for transitional and longer term residential needs • Spacious Luxury Park Homes and small, basic, budget bungalows

Your project will be in safe hands With over 80 years experience providing High Quality buildings & property developments you can rest in the knowledge that you and your project will be taken well care of.
