BISCA STAIRCASES A sustainable staircase reclaimed from land and sea The client was remodelling and modernising a brick and stone farmhouse near Hartlepool. Local materials reclaimed by the homeowner were the inspiration for the design of a new staircase to be located in a newly created triple-height entrance space providing a link between old and new. Each project begins with a blank slate, a site visit and listening to the homeowner’s aspirations,. Every element of the design and build is approached on an individual basis - there are no templates or preconstructed parts. CAD designs are created and once approved, materials are proposed and sourced. However, this project was unusual in that existing

materials were the starting point for the design which creating a new challenge for the design team. The home owner is a strong advocate of repurposing, giving materials a new lease of life.
