LEGENDARY ARCHITECT JEAN-MICHEL GATHY CONCEIVES THE INTERIORS OF JUMEIRAH BALI

Jumeirah Bali (opened July 2022) was interior designed by Jean-Michel Gathy, Principal Designer of the award-winning hospitality and design consultancy firm DENNISTON. Inspired by colonial Balinese and European influences, Gathy has here created a verdant, opulent sanctuary of tropical modernism, styled using tactile and natural materials, with luxurious modern comforts to connect the present and past. The all-villa luxury resort sits gracefully atop the cliffs of Uluwatu, one of the most coveted spots on the island.

“Jumeirah Bali is designed as a palace celebrating the history of Central Java. The identity we have given to this project is a little bit different from most hotels in Bali. We have introduced an Indonesian-Dutchinspired architectural interior, the European influences in the interior which relate to the colonial times of Central Java is very complementary to the architectural design. We have humbly slipped ourselves in.” comments Jean-Michel Gathy.

BRINGING MAJAPAHIT EMPIRE’S LEGACY TO LIFE

Combining tropical modernism with Bali’s heritage, Jumeirah Bali’s design reflects Bali’s adobe vernacular, as well as creates a seamless flow between the architecture, interior, and landscape. Indigenous tactile, natural materials combine with luxurious modern comforts to transport guests to an authentic Balinese haven of understated elegance with an opulent touch.

As guests arrive, they pass through a grand Balinese gate flanked by two stone protectors known as Singa Ambara Raja. Local culture, full of symbolism, considers gates to be important portals that connect the physical world and the spiritual realm. Overhead, two mythical winged creatures in the Majapahit tradition guard the passage.

Exquisite detailing, such as the intricate wall carvings telling the story of Ramayana, a Sanskrit epic from ancient India, or floral Patra carvings and Majapahit-style swing

doors create an ambience that is timeless and serene. Highly skilled Balinese craftsmen were commissioned to decorate the walls and doors with bespoke carvings painstakingly recreated and traditional motifs and narratives, providing a fascinating window into a culture that shaped contemporary Bali. As guests transition between the resort’s public spaces, they seamlessly move between different time periods, each room concealing a delightful surprise that engages all senses.

A BALINESE HAVEN OF UNDERSTATED ELEGANCE WITH CONTEMPORARY COMFORTS

Jumeirah Bali’s 123 spacious villas are a carefully choreographed composition of light and space. Starting from 210 square metres, the one- and two-bedroom villas all feature sublime tropical views of the Indian Ocean and offer pockets of private space for concentration and calm. Each villa comes with a private pool, outdoor living area and a landscaped tropical garden for guests to indulge in a spiritual, secluded, and soulful experience. To root villa interiors to the location, outdoor showers and covered pendopo pavilions are incorporated overlooking the sunset horizon into the design, instantly transporting guests to a royal Balinese summer home.

The 4,900 square metres four-bedroom Royal Water Palace marries Balinese, Javanese and Arabian features to create a sense of exclusivity and ultimate seclusion. Technology is also a highlight of the villa, guests will be taken down by a glass elevator through a press of a button to the beach level where a hightech, temperature-controlled wine cellar converted from a natural cave, houses an extensive collection of fine vintages.

AUTHENTIC SENSORY DELIGHTS

As guests settle down for dinner in a venue that tells the story of a royal family entertaining an intimate group of friends, they are offered vivid glimpses of the splendour of a powerful empire long gone. www.denniston.com.my

Jumeirah’s signature Talise Spa pays homage to the majestic influence that the Majapahit Empire experienced shortly before its collapse, bringing with it to the Island of the Gods Turkey’s world-famous bathhouse culture. A 1,705-square-metre heaven of tranquillity, it features Bali’s first royal Turkish hammam; steam and sauna facilities, including a Vichy shower; and five private treatment rooms, where soulful ‘Divine Therapies’ promise tip-to-toe indulgence and energy rebalancing amid boundless panoramas.

THE ORIGIN WAY TRANSFORM YOUR HOME

Transforming your home with a bespoke indoor swimming pool and pool house is the ultimate home improvement. It allows you to create a place of relaxation, wellbeing and fun all in the comfort of your own home as well as providing a luxurious and convenient way to enjoy the benefits of swimming, regardless of the weather yearround. Origin knows that a swimming pool can not only add value to your home but to your home life as well making them a smart investment for those looking to upgrade their living space. Attention to detail and precise planning are crucial when designing a successful swimming pool and pool

house as the process is quite unlike any other building project and requires more than just finding a competent builder.

It’s important to understand that indoor pools require specialist design in three major areas: the pool chamber, the building structure and the management of the pool building environment (heating, dehumidification and ventilation). All of these specialisms should be integrated into a consolidated design from the start, to avoid disruptive, complicated and potentially costly alterations after your pool house has been built.

This is where Origin excels above the rest. Simply put, they do it all. With over 40 years of indoor swimming pool design and construction experience, their specialist team are ideally positioned to guide you through the entire process. Every element can be customised to your individual requirements, style and specification to create your luxury swimming pool. Designing a pool is a completely different process compared to designing a house and a lack of experience can lead to a project which isn’t feasible in either design or budget. Origin works closely with you to create a swimming pool design to suit your lifestyle, home and budget.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023 22 LUXURY HOMES
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023

After all, swimming pool design is about creating harmony between your home and pool room, so it’s essential an indoor pool not only looks stunning but also becomes a seamless addition to your living environment.

Swimming remains one of the most popular activities across the country, with its physical and mental health benefits exceeding expectations. In fact, a recent SwimEngland study found that those who swim regularly felt on average 12 years younger than those who don’t. Swimming is a great form of low-impact exercise and is easy on the joints, making it enjoyable for people of all ages and fitness levels. Swimming can also improve your quality of sleep and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. The movement of water over your body creates a massaging sensation which encourages you to relax, just being in water increases blood flow to the brain, boosting your brain health, releasing endorphins and increasing your overall mood.

Origin believes owning a pool is about more than the pool itself: by adding a spa, sauna, steam room or yoga area your swimming pool and pool house could be transformed into a centre of relaxation and well-being, providing the ultimate calming and restorative experience. Saunas and steam rooms help to stimulate blood flow, increasing the release of toxins from the body, and leaving you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. The calming nature of these spaces also provides stress relief by relaxing your muscles, reducing tension

and improving circulation, as well as being a great way to complement your swimming pool and integrate tranquillity into your daily routine. If you’re looking to increase family time, your pool house could become a new social hub for everyone to enjoy by adding a gym, lounge area, games room or even a bar. These added elements are what make your space unique and Origin offers a bespoke process so your swimming pool and pool house can be completely tailored to your wants and needs.

Whether you’re looking to create a sanctuary in your home or somewhere to just have fun, Origin have experienced it all and are available to help you bring your dream pool to life, managing every stage from start to finish, giving you the confidence and freedom to enjoy finally swimming in your own home. Origin’s experts can discuss requirements, guide you through the options and produce a fully costed proposal and design allowing you to undertake the ultimate home improvement so you can finally achieve the perfect worklife balance.

THE EAV’S GROUP: DEBUT RESIDENTIAL PROJECT: 107 QUEEN’S GATE LONDON

His works of art are shrouded in his impeccable craftsmanship and attention to detail. With all this being said, it is no wonder that the group’s residential debut project, 107 Queen’s Gate in London, is deserving of a Luxury Lifestyle Awards for Best Luxury Apartment Interior Design, 2022.

Jonathan Eav is a graduate of London Guildhall University, where he received a Master of Arts degree in art, design, and visual culture. He has worked in a number of architectural companies based in London. In 2006 he returned to Hong Kong to join his family’s business known as Asia Commercial Holdings Limited.

Jonathan’s burning passion for real estate investment and design led him to establish The Eav’s Group in 2018, under the portfolio of the family business. Since then, Jonathan has been a key contributor to the evergrowing expansion of his firm’s reach into various key world markets, such as China, Hong Kong, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023
The Eav’s Group is a promising real estate developer and designer. The Group was founded in 2018 by Jonathan Eav, executive director, and a passionate designer with an incredible flair for combining balanced blends of classic elegance with that of contemporary sophistication.
28 LUXURY HOMES THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023

Jonathan is not only known for his creativity. His finely attuned business-savvy judgment and ability to think quickly put The Eav’s Group at a huge advantage in the selection of their properties. The goal for Jonathan, when selecting a property to invest in, is what he likes to call a rare find. This means looking specifically for features that are prominent and bold, which he can work with. This knowledge and ability to select the perfect projects, not only creates investments that will continue to add to the ongoing success of The Eav’s Group, but also instills a confidence within their buyers of their exclusive properties.

The same passion also led to the establishment of Jonathan Eav Atelier, a division that offers its clients a bespoke interior design service for both commercial and residential properties. Every detail is personally tailored to suit every possible need and want of the client, all while maintaining the timeless class of Jonathan Eav’s design.

This philosophy is very apparent in Jonathan’s exceptional debut residential project at 107 Queen’s Gate in London. This exclusive and luxurious apartment, in the sought-after area of South Kensington, is fully renovated with lavish magnificence, avant-garde features, and meticulous attention to detail. This exquisitely showcased residence served to create an extravagant, custom-tailored interior intended only for the discerning few, who appreciate the grand design of living.

The spectacular, heritage residence, dating back to 1874, has a prestigious and desirable address. Conveniently located in the heart of London, affording the new owner the opportunity of stately living, a mere stone’s throw from appetizing eateries, internationally recognized museums, art galleries, theatres, world heritage sights, and luxury retail.

The impressive palatial, and contemporary, two-bedroom, two-bathroom, south-east facing corner apartment boasts charming views of the private manicured Onslow Gardens, which can be enjoyed from French doors opening onto the balustraded balconies. The rooms are generous and oversized, each with double doors and high ceilings of almost 4 meters, as opposed to the standard height of 2.4 meters. The result? An abundance of natural lighting throughout the apartment, adding to the grand design, and sense of space.

Throughout the renovation, the integrity and heritage of this Victorian building have been considered. The original architrave has been retained and restored while the old cornicing was completely removed and updated with carefully chosen cornices, as a nod to the building’s legacy. The precision-cut chevron flooring ingenuously combined with artistic, custom-designed mosaic makes a bold statement of old meets new as well as timeless style and luxury.

The unusually large bathrooms are light and airy and are intended to offer a sanctuary and Spa-like experience. The design layout enables residents to feel pampered, with the finish including cleanliving amenities that reflect progressive modern hygiene standards, including a urinal.

The property also features bespoke handmade joinery and furniture that introduces bold touches, from the handcrafted bar and wine storage counter that utilizes Verde San Denise marble to the striking full-height brass bookcase that has an unusual and eye-catching matt gold coloring. Fittings and fixtures throughout the apartment are state-of-the-art, as are the Gaggenau appliances for the kitchen. This extraordinary extravagance is further combined with commissioned artworks, gym membership, and concierge service of the highest standard.

All in all, a serene space of timeless elegance where charm and nostalgia are blended aesthetically, with contemporary comforts. This superb and stylish home is a premium property, walk-in ready, intended for the connoisseur, accustomed to the finer things in life and seamless living, or for the serious buyer looking to add to their investment portfolio.

“I would like to thank the professionals at Luxury Lifestyle Awards for choosing our debut project, 107 Queens Gate in London for this award. This distinguished award affirms the value and impact of our work.”, Says Jonathan Eav.

UNSPIRAL CELLAR: THE NEW ERA IN WINE CELLARING

Spiral Cellars,

is launching a ground breaking new wine storage system with their new UnSpiral Cellar.

It’s an innovation that promises to usher in a complete new era of wine cellaring, offering an unprecedented design flexibility that makes the product as suited to a contemporary new build as it is to a traditional, period property,

The innovative UnSpiral Cellar is composed of a range of 38 ready-made and interchangeable modular pieces, which can be arranged to create countless design configurations. This flexibility allows clients to design and arrange the modules themselves (or Spiral Cellars can do it for them) to create a storage configuration that best suits them, their space and their cellaring needs. Modules can be used to create a stunning under-the-stair wine showcase, stacked to create a full height wine wall running the length of an entire room, or simply placed side by side to create a small furniture style piece – the possibilities are endless. Regardless of how it is configured, the UnSpiral Cellar is sure to turn any room, basement, garage, or even unused cupboard into the ultimate wine showcase.

Made from the same limestone concrete that the company uses to produce their iconic underground Spiral Cellars, the UnSpiral Cellar is a great value alternative to a traditional timber wine cellar. This, together with the total design flexibility it offers, makes it look set to become an instant hit with a wide range of customers – from interior lovers looking to create a statement wine display with which to

the UK’s leading purveyor of luxury wine storage,

enhance their home, to younger audiences seeking a more affordable means of housing a smaller collection. Whilst the UnSpiral is suited to ambient storage, it can also be fitted with climate control, making it a sure fire hit with serious wine collectors who want the same aesthetic and professional cellaring conditions of an underground cellar – but without having to dig down.

The sheer breadth of modules in the range gives customers the freedom to store their wine exactly as they want to: stacked by bottle, stored neatly in the case, or displayed label facing on pegs – or a mix of all three. And for those who want that little extra touch of sparkle, all modules can be fitted with LED lighting.

Taking inspiration from the iconic underground Spiral Cellar, it is the company’s single biggest launch since its debut 40 years ago, offering the aesthetic of their cult classic – but above ground! Unlike the Spiral Cellar, the UnSpiral Cellar doesn’t require any digging and isn’t restricted to being below ground and can be installed in to any space, room or floor in a property.

The UnSpiral Cellar is the ultimate home design indulgence for those looking to add an extra oomph to their home. It’s a new dawn for wine cellaring, blending the world of wine and home design in to one – and all with the same distinctive design aesthetic and quality for which Spiral Cellars is famed.

“We couldn’t be more excited for the launch of UnSpiral Cellar, a revolutionary twist on our cellaring heritage that introduces a truly flexible means of creating your own wine storage in to an often rather inflexible category. Our customers will have the option of taking complete charge of their

UnSpiral Cellar design, from the size and configuration, to the final installation or they can let us do it for them – either way, it’s a true step towards the democratization of in-home wine cellaring.” Lucy

HARA AND SON:

FAMILY-OWNED BUSINESS TAKES ON FINE & COUNTRY MASTER LICENCE IN SPAIN

As the Fine & Country brand continues to expand globally at a rate of knots, Chris Hara, Managing Director at Fine & Country Costa Blanca North, identified a unique opportunity within the Spanish arm of the business, deciding to take on the Fine & Country Master Licence for Spain.

Fine & Country Costa Blanca North, located on the south-east coast of Spain, have won many prestigious awards throughout 2022 for their real estate services and have been recognised in the Top 100 Real Estate Brokers and Developers in the World by the Luxury Lifestyle Awards. In addition, they also picked up the Marketing and Exposure Award at the Fine & Country International Award Ceremony in London for the second consecutive year. As a top performing licensee, Hara and his team are the ideal candidates to champion Fine & Country in Spain and continue to grow the premium brand’s global footprint in the region.

Hara, along with his wife and business associate, Jacqueline, were presented with the concept of launching a standalone Fine & Country office, focusing on luxury and

lifestyle properties, in May 2019. Chris brings with him a wealth of knowledge, with almost 20-years’ experience as a successful and decorated real estate agent in Costa Blanca North. When asked how the progression from office to Master Licence came about, Hara comments: “Our son Cristian, who studied Business and Economics at Valencia University, was looking for an opportunity to work within our business after recently receiving a degree equivalent studying for the “Certificado Agente Professional Inmobiliario”, (Professional Real Estate Certificate). He received his certificate the same time we were offered the opportunity to take on the Master License, so as a family, we saw this as an opportunity to cement the future of our family-owned business, as well as allowing us to ensure Fine & Country Spain can develop further in relatively untapped Spanish markets.”

Chris and Jacqueline relocated to Spain from the UK in 2004, and after experiencing buying a property in Spain themselves, Chris took a leap of faith and opened a real estate business in Costa Blanca North, coming from a financial services background at Director level. Similarly, Jacqueline also has experience in financial services from

a strategic distribution perspective. With their son, Cristian being born in Spain and therefore native to the country, the family hope their collective passion and knowledge will allow them to develop and work with like-minded licensees to gain a greater market share, unlock new markets and ultimately become more profitable.

Hara says: “We want to emulate the success we have had engaging with and supporting our existing office network already established in Spain, sharing best practice, marketing initiatives and expanding by opening new offices across the country. We have a wealth of experience within the network and want Fine & Country Spain to be recognised as a major, wellrespected provider in the top quartile of the international marketplace attracting more affluent global clients to our shores.

“Being part of the Fine & Country network means we benefit from a brand that has been forged from a mutual entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to revolutionising the real estate industry. Facilitated by a powerful combination of innovative marketing, technology and most of all passionate people, the network has

exponentially grown since its inception and is now a multi-award-winning luxury estate agency in just over two decades, going from one location to 300, and from one country to 14! Cristian and I are very excited to be given this unmissable opportunity to progress, develop and continue to drive the Fine & Country brand forward in Spain.”

Nicky Stevenson, Managing Director at Fine & Country, says: “I am delighted that Fine & Country is continuing to thrive in a buoyant Spanish market, and welcoming Chris and Jacqueline as Master Licence holders has been a pleasure.

They are already highly successful agents in their area, with their awards cabinet speaking for itself! I look forward to seeing them replicate these successes across the brand throughout the country and will work closely with them to ensure they have all the support they need to achieve their goals,” she concludes.

EXCLUSIVE BY LAURIE STONE

The ultra-luxurious home in Marbella won a major design prize presented by King Felipe VI of Span and Queen Letizia.

The award was handed over to ItalianBritish entrepreneur Joe Ricotta, who built the mansion, for ‘best villa in the world 2022’ at the Macael Awards for architecture, crafts, and design.

However, Mr Ricotta has now decided to put the 13-bedroom villa on the market as family commitments mean he will be spending more time at his home in the English countryside, an hour away from central London.

A NEWLY-BUILT 65-million-euro villa has been given the royal seal of approval.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023

He said: “I always felt this was my forever home, which I would share with my wife Josie and our family. However, since the project first began three years ago, we realised we needed to be in the UK much more often than we had previously, so it made sense to put the villa up for sale.”

Named after the owner himself, Villa Ricotta II’s lofty position affords both, mountain and coastal views, including the Straits of Gibraltar. It is only ten minutes from Puerto Banus, the playground of Europe’s rich and famous.

All bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes, a lounge area, and private terraces.

Visitors are greeted by a portico of the world’s only seven-metretall one-piece marble columns. Mr Ricotta’s special touches for this one-off villa include entrance fountains modelled on those at the Bellagio resort hotel on the Las Vegas Strip, where the water jets ‘dance’ in time to music.

There is a huge barbecue area featuring a wood-fire pizza oven as well as a family main kitchen and an industrial-size kitchen. The garden is filled with tropical flowers, as well as an enormous swimming pool and children’s pool. Plus, in the basement, there is a 21-seater cinema room, two lane bowling alley, bar and games area, a large spa including a wave machine, hammam and sauna. There is also parking for 50 vehicles.

Mr Ricotta, who is handling the sale himself, said: “I had lots of interest in the villa even while I was building it, but it wasn’t for sale at the time.”

Mr Ricotta has spared no expense on the property, which is situated in Sierra Blanca, one of Marbella’s most exclusive residential districts.

The mansion has 6,000 square metres of floorspace arranged over three floors, set in 11,000 square metres of grounds. Think of the White House (6,200 square metres) situated on a site bigger than an average-sized football pitch (7,140 square metres)!

There is an elegant double sweeping staircase, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea from the ground floor. For

WELLNESS IN TRAVEL 2023 –WHAT TO EXPECT

The wellness industry is continuing to boom with consumers looking for and prioritising experiences and products that improve their health, fitness, nutrition, appearance, sleep, and mindfulness. Yoga retreats, spa experiences, culinary offerings for a vast variety of dietary considerations, and wellness- focused design are becoming more prevalent in destinations around the globe and this is not merely an industry trend, but a new direction for the luxury traveller that promises longevity. 80% of affluent consumers agree that improving their physical and emotional wellbeing is more of a focus than it was three years ago.

Based on our unique insight into the luxury travel industry, we explore what’s trending in wellness in travel for 2023, from preventative health and female focused treatments to recovery and outdoor fitness.

FEMALE FOCUSED

The UK healthcare system has been designed around the needs of just half the population. Men have historically been treated as the default patient in clinical practice and medical research,

and women’s health and healthcare needs have been marginalised. With this in mind, women are likely to be mis-diagnosed or not have access to suitable tests, treatments, and medicines rapidly enough. To lessen the chances of early death in women and improve the quality of life of those affected by menopause-related diseases, companies will need to crate female specific treatments, programmes or packages.

STAT: Less than 2.5% of publicly funded research is currently devoted to female health.

From Preventative Health and Female Focused Treatments to Recovery and Outdoor Fitness.
44 LUXURY TRAVEL THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023

EXAMPLES: Harley Street based Echelon Health created the Cullinan Assessment, set to revolutionise how we look at female health and menopause. It is designed to highlight the hormonal changes that affect women in the perimenopause and menopause stages and detect the causes of the most common deadly diseases in women. These include lung, breast, and ovarian cancers, osteoporosis, and coronary heart diseases. Last year Fairmont Windsor Park announced its partnership with GenM, becoming a founding member of the menopause revolution, to help support the menopause experience for all women. Offering a unique targeted set of spa treatments – including cryotherapy for hot flushes and AquaVibe for disturbed sleep - a specially designed menu, carefully curated sleep kit, and a two-night stay, all designed to help ease the 48 known symptoms of menopause.

RECOVERY

A growing emphasis is being placed on how what you do outside of the gym is just as important as time spent sweating and racking up reps. There’s now a growing trend for supercharging rest days with dedicated gym classes, treatments such as cryotherapy and infrared sauna,

gadgets and techniques designed to help professional and amateur athletes recover better and faster.

STAT: The International Journal of Sports Medicine reviewed literature that found whole-body cryotherapy reduced muscle pain by 80% with multiple exposures leading to improvements in loss of muscle function and inflammation markers.

EXAMPLES: Fairmont Windsor Park is home to the UK’s first spa multi-person Cryotherapy Chamber - both accessible to those with life-limiting conditions. Known for its powerful multitude of benefits, cryotherapy can boost metabolism, reduce migraines and muscle pain, enhance

energy and athletic performance and improve both sleep and mood. Chenot Palace Weggis offers its own Recover and Energise programme aimed to reduce stress, recharge the body’s all-natural energy and restore its vitality.

PREVENTATIVE HEALTH

As science and technology continue to evolve at a rate faster than ever before, with previously unimaginable advances in the fields developing, the life expectancy for people is continuing to increase with a huge focus on preventative health care.

STAT: The global market for preventive healthcare (technologies and services) is estimated to attain $345 billion by 2029, expanding at a CAGR of 9.6% over the forecast period, driven by government initiatives and support, coupled with growing public awareness.

EXAMPLES: World-class health wellness retreat, Chenot Palace Weggis, majestically positioned on the beautiful Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, offers a carefully curated Prevention and Ageing Well 7-night programme, targeting these issues helping guests to begin their journey to optimal health and live better for longer. For the most advanced preventative health assessment, head to Echelon Health, located on London’s Harley Street. A true pioneer in the field of preventative medicine, Echelon Health’s personal health assessments are executed with the best medical imaging equipment available on the market and can detect up to 95% of diseases’ causes, years before they become symptomatic. Under the leadership of Medical Director and Founder Dr Paul Jenkins, Echelon Health has been paving the way for technology-led preventative healthcare since 2006.

WELLBEING IN DESIGN

Studies demonstrate a connection between design and physical health and wellbeing, inspiring a trend for architecture and design that takes its emotional impact into account. Factors such as daylight, colour, acoustics, indoor air quality and scents are all relevant, and increasingly considered in luxury spaces. Design has a profound impact on a hotel guest experience, from the moment they enter until long after they depart evoking emotions and leaving a lingering impression.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023 46 LUXURY TRAVEL
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023

STAT: World Architecture Day 2022 was themed around “Architecture for wellbeing”, paralleling the designation of 2022 as the UIA Year of Design for Health in buildings and cities, a trend that is set to last well into this year.

EXAMPLES: CAYO Exclusive Resort & Spa has been intentionally designed to offer panoramic sea views from every bedroom, in order to immerse guests in the surrounding nature. Interiors utilise a muted colour palate to support the Cretan sun and prevent harsh contrasts; designer Gian Paolo Venier says, “I like to think of CAYO’s design as ‘whispered’ – it embraces the natural surroundings rather than forcing itself upon them.” A strong advocate for the effect of our surroundings on the psyche, emotions and mood, Emlyn Brown, Global Vice President of Wellbeing at Accor, is implementing a well-considered design strategy across the company’s portfolio of over 40 brands. In-room programmes include the Swissôtel Vitality Rooms, providing the idyllic sleep environment with an experience shower and bath, in-room yoga station, a fitness-centred ‘wellness wall’ and a minibar stocked with nutritious

juices and snacks. Meanwhile, Raffles is leading the way in making technology a core component of the design experience and its emotional impact.

OUTDOOR FITNESS

Avoiding busy gyms and embracing the great outdoors is a trend that is expected to continue into this year. Hiking is set to soar in popularity and experiencing nature, fresh air and views is key for mental wellbeing, a huge priority for many this year.

Issue 57 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY 47 LUXURY TRAVEL

STAT: Pure Gym found that last year saw an increase of almost 50% on outdoor fitness and this is set to continue to grow in 2023.

EXAMPLES: Fairmont Windsor Park boasts an expansive outdoor training area that captures the best in current training trends to offer an exciting workout space

in an unforgettable outdoor setting. Centred around a functional training rig it allows users to take on boxing, HIIT, body weight and strength workouts in endless combinations with added climbing ropes for a unique challenge and is accompanied by Assault Bikes, Rowing machines, a 20m sled track, three tennis courts and two padel courts. Those looking to work

out in warmer climates can do so in Yazz Collective’s al fresco gym, complete with the latest Technogym equipment, it provides the perfect setting for guests to maintain their fitness whilst visiting the Mediterranean’s new chic boutique resort.

EAST MEETS WEST

For centuries, medicine, wellness, and health have been clearly divided into two schools of thought: Eastern and Western. As acupuncture, turmeric, probiotics and yoga become part of our daily routines we’re bridging the gap between Eastern modalities and Western medicine to optimize personal health and wellbeing routines.

STAT: Many prestigious medical centres including Mayo Clinic, University of California San Francisco, and Duke University Medical Centre now offer Oriental medicine and other complementary and alternative medicine treatments to their patients.

EXAMPLE: COMO’s flagship wellness property, COMO Shambhala Estate, offers an integrated wellness retreat combining traditional and modern Eastern and Western practices. Meaning ‘peace’ in Sanskrit, Shambhala alludes to the pursuit of balance. It defines the essence of the COMO Shambhala approach to holistic wellness, combining modern science with ancient practices to align mind, body and spirit. Ibiza Gran Hotel’s very own Open Spa offers a mix of Eastern and Western massage treatments including stress away deep tissue and rhythmic Balinese, in a calming and luxurious spa of 1300 sq. m of modern facilities to revitalize body, mind and soul.

ROMAN AND ERICA –BUCKET LIST TRAVEL DESTINATIONS

Roman & Erica are lifestylists, a service that goes far beyond that of a concierge or a travel curator. They operate as an extension of their clients, not only making their everyday life seamless but curating experiences for them that they didn’t even know they needed. With unmatched expertise in all aspects of high living, their goal is to ensure that their clients are living the very best version of their lives.

Charging six-figure annual membership fees, they offer one-of-a-kind, unmissable experiences to meet the needs of their members and make the impossible possible, from building tailored superyachts to arranging a private tennis match with Roger Federer.

Roman and Erica’s list includes the top destinations for 2023 they will be matching up to the right clients. Experiences range from the first-ever expedition from Osaka travelling along Japan’s oldest sea route to the launch of the world’s largest archaeological museum in Egypt with something for everyone looking to make the trip of a lifetime this year.

YACHT IN THE MEDITERRANEAN

Roman & Erica have found that nothing is quite like the luxury of traveling on a yacht and doing so in the Mediterranean is a trip that is on almost every client’s bucket

list. Guests only have to unpack once but get multiple enriching experiences, from shopping for truffles with the chef in the south of France that will be in their truffle butter that evening, to lunch while swimming off the coast of Corsica, and then dinner in Italy the following evening. The luxury of exploring all day only to wake up to a new destination of your choice tomorrow is unmatched.

WHITE DESERT

Many of Roman & Erica’s adventure-seeking clients have wanted to travel to the white desert in Antarctica. Clients begin their journey in South Africa before flying to Antarctica in a G5 to stay in luxury tents or Echo’s “Sky Pods”. Days are spent exploring glaciers and otherworldly terrain and can even include a visit to the emperor penguin colony or a submersible excursion.

BHUTAN

Roman & Erica have seen an increased interest in Bhutan due to the recent reopening of the historic Trans Bhutan Trail just this past September. The country requires foreign tourists to pay a Sustainable Development Fee of $200 per person per day, making visiting Bhutan

a luxury for most but allows for highvalue, low-volume tourism that ensures visitors won’t be surrounded by large crowds and protects the people, culture, and environment of Bhutan. The result is a kingdom steeped in history that feels almost untouched by the outside world.

SPACE

Having explored most corners of the earth, many of Roman & Erica’s clients have set their sights on Space for their next bucket list adventure. The demand has led Roman to create SpaceVIP as their space tourism arm, bringing orbital and suborbital experiences to their clients. As one of the lowest barriers to entry into space tourism, Space Perspective offers an experience that will take passengers to the stratosphere. In a pressurized capsule traveling 20 miles above the earth’s surface, passengers will see the curvature of the earth and the darkness of the cosmos. The adventure will require no necessary training and will only take half a day, bringing passengers home in time for lunch. romananderica.com

DO consider your needs - Where do you want to fly to? How many people will be traveling at any one time? What’s your budget? Talk these through with an expert, before starting to look for the best aircraft to ensure all your needs are met.

DON’T disqualify an aircraft due to cosmetics – Although it may seem natural to gravitate towards details such as the colour of the paint or leather, changing cosmetics is relatively simple and inexpensive compared to the overall cost of the aircraft.

DO consult the experts – Although it sounds self-serving, the best tip is to work with a trusted advisor. In this challenging market, it’s especially important to work with a representative who can source aircraft from around the world, offer early access to inventory before it hits the market and help buyers plan, budget and negotiate the very best deals quickly and efficiently.

DON’T buy blind and try before you buy - If you haven’t flown in that model before, consider finding a charter company that operates the aircraft type and test it out on what would be a ‘typical’ mission for you. You can also test out different models or manufacturers, so you have a feel for how big the cabin is, the comfort of the seats and the noise levels.

DO choose your crew - This is an important factor as the crew will be on the aircraft every time you fly, so make sure they are handpicked to suit your needs. If you’re planning to take your pet onboard, make sure they have the relevant travel permit.

A 17th-century home – once the summer residence of Napoleon III’s wife, Eugénie de Montijo, later an underground artists’ hangout – hosts this beautiful boutique retreat. Intimate rooms are inspired by Andalucian culture and the location in the heart of Marbella’s lively old town is a joy.

HOTEL CLAUDE MARBELLA, MALAGA, SPAIN

LOCATION

On a buzzy street in the upper part of Marbella’s casco histórico, Hotel Claude sits right opposite the 15th-century Ermita de Santo Cristo, whose blue-tiled bell tower you can see from the roof terrace. The old town is having a bit of a stylish renaissance these days, and its maze-like white-walled streets are crammed with boutiques, geraniums, restaurants and bars, as well as a few historical sights. The seafront is a 10-minute walk away, with sandy beaches within a 15-minute walk, and Puerto Banús is a 20-minute taxi ride. It’s a 45-minute drive northeast to Málaga and the airport.

STYLE AND CHARACTER

Fresh from a creative head-to-toe makeover by local interiors firm Lord Designs, Marbella’s original boutique beauty skilfully injects bold, urban styling into its original 17th-century architecture. The whole place revolves around a light-flooded central patio with red-brick arches, marble pillars, an ancient well and a suspended wooden-fish sculpture, and each of the seven rooms has its own Andalucian theme. The thoughtful design gives guests maximum privacy, and a sense of understated luxury runs through the entire building. It’s all topped by a sunny Jaén-inspired rooftop terrace decorated with white-and-green tiling, while the corridors, patio and lounge are filled with works by cubist painter Willy L’Eplattenier.

SERVICE AND FACILITIES

Manager Stelian and his switched-on multilingual team take wonderful care of guests, offering lists of favourite local restaurants, rustling up glasses of wine and organising guided hikes, tapas tours, Ronda wine tastings, airport transfers, sailing excursions, beach club access, trips to Seville or Granada, and anything else you might fancy. In summer, everyone congregates on the rambling rooftop terrace, between rust-red roofs and church spires. Though there’s no restaurant, you can order room-service meals via tablet, and an honesty bar is set up in the lounge every afternoon.

• Bar • Fitness centre • Laundry

• Restaurant • Room service • Sauna

• Spa • Wi-Fi

ROOMS

From Seville’s rich tile-making tradition (the Maestranza room) to Almería’s cactistudded landscapes (Indalo) and the glinting marshes of Huelva (Marismas), each of the seven innovatively designed rooms evokes a different Andalucian province, skilfully blending contemporary style with original architectural features. All rooms have full-sized Molton Brown toiletries, tile-walled statement bathrooms, rainfall showers, Krups coffee-makers, kettles, glass-bottled water, slippers and bathrobes, and Smeg-style fridges stocked with local products. Top-category rooms have extra touches like pyjamas or beach bags. Indalo (an entry-level Chic room) is the only one with its own balcony.

In the showstopper Alhambra-themed suite, terracotta floors and wooden shutters mingle with a rosy-pink velvet bedhead, lattice-like woodwork with mirrors, forestgreen scallop chairs, a lamp with metallic golden legs, and statement wallpaper inspired by the Granada palace’s famous gardens.

FOOD AND DRINK

Served up on the rooftop or in the groundfloor Café Claude, the excellent à la carte breakfasts start with a spread of fruit, fresh pastries, yogurt, granola, coffee and just-squeezed orange or grapefruit juice. Then there’s a choice of creative madeto-order tostadas, such as rustic artisanal bread topped with halloumi and za’atar or a spiced garlic-parsley omelette. Later on, you can help yourself to a G&T or a glass of wine from the honesty bar in the lobby. Courtesy of an in-house chef, room-service menus include grilled halloumi salads, local cheese platters, burgers, pizzas and pastas – perfect on the roof after a long day at the beach.

VALUE FOR MONEY

Doubles from €238 (£208) in low season and from €333 (£290) in high season; breakfast included. Free Wi-Fi.

ACCESS FOR GUESTS WITH DISABILITIES?

There is one adapted room (Banús, a Chic Superior), along with a lift to the first floor; the rooftop terrace is stair-access only.

RAFAEL CAGALI’S ELIS IS NOW OPEN

Rafael Cagali - chef and owner of two Michelin starred Da Terra - has just opened the doors of his new restaurant Elis. A tribute to his mother, whose first restaurant and jazz bar in São Paulo was named after famed Brazilian musician, Elis Regina. Rafael will be taking over the space that used to house the Corner Room, set within the historic Town Hall Hotel. Elis is a more relaxed interpretation of Rafael’s BrazilianItalian heritage, serving an a la carte menu and wines from the Keeling Andrew & Co.

Starting with an in-house bread selection and snacks including porchetta tonnato, bolinho de bacalhau, panzanella and churros pecorino, the menu will follow into pasta dishes like short rib pappardelle, crab linguini verge, before moving into larger dishes to share such as baby monkfish tail with black tucupi glaze and aubergine parmigiana. The wine list will be a concise selection of 10-12 bottles highlighted at any given time, with 5-6 wines by the glass.

Elegant and dynamic, Elis is an intimate space for around 30 people set within the historic Town Hall Hotel, with bespoke design elements in collaboration with Studio Nathan Miller.

A few words from Rafael: Elis is inspired by my mother and childhood and we will be serving more rustic dishes, with a selection of elegant snacks and good wines. I have wanted to explore some of the more relaxed elements of Brazilian and Italian food culture for some time; drawing on everything from my favourite street food to family meal celebration dishes that my grandma used to make.

MY WHY

After years of working in food, first as a chef, then as a culinary strategist, I’ve noticed the erosion of control over what and how we eat. Food has become ruthlessly commoditised: what should be nourishing us, is making us ill. In my corporate life my main focus is to use science and skill to generate more profit from food - yet when I started out, I was all about sharing and enhancing the joy of food. I started my private chef and kitchen coaching business to get back to my personal ‘Why’.

EVERYDAY ARYUVEDA FOODIE FENG SHUI

Our food-related spend is bigger than ever; we have the beautiful kitchens, the latest cook books, subscriptions to meals kits and health apps - yet many of us are less than ever in control of what we eat.

When I noticed this trend, at first it felt like a paradox: why do so many top achievers - people with high standards and aspirational lifestyles - feel trapped by something that should be a source of joy and wellbeing?

I came to understand that many domestic kitchens, and certain aspects of our dayto-day lives, actively prevent many people from accessing the pleasure of excellent, effortless home cooked food.

FOODIE FENG SHUI

Feng Shui literally means wind-water. It is an ancient Chinese practice which harmonises the individual with their surrounding environment. Often when I watch my friends and family cook in their homes, I notice how they struggle, simply because their beautiful kitchen is not set up sympathetically to a good working cooking practice. As a result they are discouraged from using their own resources - for fear of mess, stress, and disappointing results. But beauty and practicality are not mutually exclusive - you can have both - and deserve both.

My business helps people reset - rediscover their natural confidence with food, cooking and eating.

Time is precious. Health is our greatest treasure. A well structured environment and store cupboard can bring ease and freedom in cooking, every single time. I have the experience to help my clients structure the space, the equipment and the energy in the kitchen - and from that, the rest just flows.

With a reset kitchen and a reset attitude, you can reset your cooking practice and your body. My kitchen edit empowers my clients to produce an infinite amount of satisfying and impressive meals, quickly and easily.

EVERY DAY ARYUVEDA

Ayurveda literally means: the science of life. It is an ancient Indian philosophy which recognises three groupings of body types: Vata, Pita and Kapha. Its premise is the knowledge that health is not a “one size fits all” proposition. Careful understanding of your body and its needs is the starting point for your wellness and healing.

Ayurveda teaches that we should have a balance of the 6 tastes by which all foods can be categorised: Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, Pungent, and Astringent. One must understand the unique nature of each person and situation, taking into account the individual, the season, the geography, the emotions, and so on. This is a powerful way to cut through confusing and apparently conflicting wellness advice, and gently reset to your optimal way of cooking and eating. Of course, your allergies, intolerances, ethical practices and preferences all inform this process.

Eating at home is the best way to enjoy and share excellent wines that can be sensitively chosen and paired - especially if you already have a cellar that you are proud of. For some clients, that is a joy that I can help them to discover.

Medical studies have shown that those eating home-cooked meals more than five times a week, compared with fewer than three times a week, consumed 62.3g more

fruit (99% CI 43.2 to 81.5) and 97.8g more vegetables (99% CI 84.4 to 111.2) daily. More frequent consumption of home cooked meals was associated with greater likelihood of having ideal range BMI and ideal percentage body fat.

Studies have also shown that eating homecooked meals has a positive effect on mood and can actually make you happier than eating meals out.

My mission is to help you take control back; sharing the secrets and the systems that make eating and mealtimes a source of effortless pleasure, whether with your family, friends, associates, or just for you. I want to inspire and equip discerning individuals to take cooking and eating back into the home, giving them the power to create and enjoy the best food that you can have.

HOW I CAN HELP YOU

It all starts in your kitchen with you. I start by finding out: What do you need? Who is eating in your home with you? What are your goals? Would you like to eat more healthily? Would you like to reduce your body fat? Would you like to just have more relaxed family mealtimes? Would you eventually like to host amazing dinner parties, with the skills and confidence to enjoy them as much as your guests?

Then, we are ready for the edit. We declutter; we source, we curate, and we structure the resources that you will then be able to use to develop a new way of eating, happily, healthily, and at home.

NEED MORE?

If you need more personal support, some clients ask me to individually dedicate a slot in my private chef calendar.

This is a two-day service:

DAY ONE

Consultation, menu planning, kitchen edit and food coaching.

DAY TWO

I chef your dinner party for you and with you, empowering you to do the same with the same fabulous results in the future.

SAVILE ROW, LONDON

“Savile Row has always been, and remains, the international byword for bespoke; but today’s customers are not always willing or able to wait weeks or months to receive their finished items. As both a bespoke shoe company and a technology and manufacturing pioneer, our approach is one of preservation through innovation. We inject new life into Savile Row and uphold its traditions by offering our customers the most technologically advanced service ever seen in this market. In particular, our sameday model enables international business and leisure visitors to enjoy an authentic Savile Row experience and receive their order in time to return home – something that has simply never been possible with an

authentic Savile Row product before.”

“London remains one of the world’s leading luxury shopping destinations for overseas customers. Savile Row has historically struggled to take advantage of this demand: the sheer amount of time involved in commissioning and making bespoke items doesn’t fit with people’s travel plans. Through our advanced technology and hyper-proximity, micromanufacturing model, we’ve addressed this issue. In doing so, we also answer the wider shift in priorities among a younger generation of consumers. They require a faster, more streamlined yet highly bespoke and effortless personal service. Arthur Sleep, through its farm-to-table offering,

unquestionably provides this”

Arthur Sleep is a bespoke shoemaker transforming the traditional Savile Row experience. It brings cutting-edge manufacturing technology to one of London’s most prestigious postcodes.

Instead of waiting weeks or months, customers of Arthur Sleep can place their order and receive a pair of the finest bespoke shoes on the same day – they can even watch them being made, and by extension witness the return of bespoke shoemaking to London for the first time for 150 years. In the best Savile Row tradition, their shoes will be entirely personalised and made to measure, using a last made specifically and exclusively for them.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023
Arthur Sleep establishes high-speed bespoke footwear micro-factory in the heart of London’s Savile Row.
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023

The same-day service is made possible by Arthur Sleep’s pioneering technology and manufacturing model. The company has established its new micro-factory, covering just 64 square metres, in the heart of London’s Mayfair on the principles of ‘hyper-proximity’. This not only brings the entire manufacturing process much closer to its customers, reducing delays, waste and carbon expenditure through logistics chains. It also enhances speed, efficiency and responsiveness.

While such prosaic matters may be anathema to more traditional denizens of Savile Row, they are of urgent concern to today’s younger luxury consumer. While eager to own bespoke with the cachet and story associated with any Savile Row product, they can be deterred by long lead times. Historically, this has affected international sales significantly, with business and leisure travellers unable to wait for their items to be made, or unwilling to make a special return trip for a second or third fitting.

Commissioning a pair of bespoke Arthur Sleep shoes, known affectionately as ‘Sleepers’ by its cohort of international patrons (a reference to the eveningwear slipper silhouette that Arthur Sleep popularised on Savile Row), solves this problem. It does so without compromising on the peerless quality of product, service and experience that its Savile Row location demands.

Scottish leathers, British velvets and even vibrant kilim tapestries, individually sourced

from around the world by the creative team at Arthur Sleep, customers are also able to take advantage of Arthur Sleep’s Regenerative Manufacturing service.

This process enables patrons to submit their own materials to test the cordwainers’ skills and ingenuity: an endeavour cherished by the Arthur Sleep’s customers. To date, the team has produced unique bespoke shoes from customers’ redundant yacht sails, a Royal Mint coin bag, cherished suits that have finally exceeded their capacity for economic repair, damaged ski apparel, offcuts of material used to re-trim a 1952 Jaguar XK120 and even a parachute that saw service in the Second World War.

PROCESS

Arthur Sleep, which currently employs 13 people, is the most technologically advanced maker on Savile Row. Its proprietary shoe-making process is the

product of eight collective years of intensive development.

It begins with taking measurements of the customer’s feet in a Lasting Trunk equipped with a modesty lid, allowing customers to avoid exposing their bare feet to the public gaze. Customers stand on a Lasting Pad to take an imprint of their feet, which is used by cordwainers (the traditional British name for shoemakers) to create a perfectly fitting upper. This takes no more than three minutes to complete. Customers are able to select their upper material, sole type and colour and specify personal monogram or motif. More than 140,000 colourway permutations, including a vast choice of materials for the shoe’s upper such as Italian suedes.

CONNOLLY PRESENTS THE NEW DRIVER BAG FOR SPRING 2023

Connolly is delighted to present the new Driver Bag to its collections for Spring 2023.

Made from Connolly Vaumol leather that is used in car upholstery, the Driver Bag is the ultimate shape for every day use and for fitting in the essentials.

Beautifully crafted with a racing stripe in the middle, the Driver Bag is available in white, green, red and dark tan.

“We started the journey for creating the new Driver Bag two years ago when I was trying to find a new colour for our Connolly leather collection. I wanted to find a colour and leather that had a history, an authenticity and which was not heavily finished but robust enough to suit our driving collection. Fourth generation Jonathan Connolly showed me old swatches from the Connolly leather archive, and one of the swatches from the 1970s was exactly what I was looking for”.

“It is notoriously hard to produce a good tan coloured leather. The leather can look too orange, or it goes flat and tinged with green. Two years later we have a beautiful dark tan Connolly leather that is exactly what I dreamt. And so, we are happy to introduce our most popular Connolly sports grip in our new dark tan. Badged and ready to roll. And just like that, we also produced its co-driver. A new bag for him, for her - a bag that works as an everyday bag, an office bag, a handbag, a bag that looks as good carried by a man or a woman. It has no metal work and its clean lines and design come from the automotive world. The new driver bag is incredibly practical, as hard wearing as your Connolly leather seats and as elegant as the classic car, they fit in” -

JU-NNA

Founded in London in 2019, JU-NNA creates pieces focusing on combining traditional Japanese Techniques with current and modern design.

Founded by Jun Nakamura after the completion of his M.A. Fashion Design Womenswear from Istituto Marangoni, Jun incorporates traditional Japanese Shibori into his collections, working with artisans in Asia to put a modern twist on a classic traditional art.

The art of the Japanese traditional handcraft Shibori is traditionally used for Kimono’s and is a time-consuming process that artisans begin to practice from childhood, passed down through generations. Shibori, the Japanese technique of tie-dye, has been slowly losing artisans as they grow older without replacements, as a result of modernisation and shrinkage within the Kimono industry.

JU-NNA’s Shibori collection aims to contribute to the preservation of this precious heritage, working with artisans and innovatively processes Shibori onto printed fabrics, which is a new and innovative process for the artisans, valuing the tradition whilst exploring technology.

They’re also committed to the sustainability and survival of the ancient art form, Shibori. JU-NNA is committed to creating a sustainable environment for Shibori to continue to survive in this modern world, by integrating this traditional technique into modern designs.

HUGO CELEBRATES A NEW GENERATION OF REBELS IN ITS SPRING/ SUMMER

2023 BRAND

CAMPAIGN

Keeping in line with its recent brand refresh, the mantra #HUGOYourWay is back and packed with new meaning and vibrancy. The SR23 campaign is a celebration of true individuals: those who go their own way, in their own unique style.

HUGO’s signature red is a common thread throughout the campaign. This distinct hue makes cameos across all creative content to remind viewers that raw rebellion and powerful originality are in the brand’s DNA.

While its mantra and coloring are familiar, an entirely new cast makes their debut this season, giving rise to a new generation. Three icons of individuality and boldness bring the Spring/Summer 2023 campaign to life. Model, actor and skateboarder Evan Mock; singer, actress and dancer Tinashe; and singer and TikTok creator Bella Poarch claim the spotlight while staying true to themselves and rejecting convention. They’re shot individually and as an ensemble by photographer Stuart Winecoff, and under the creative direction of Trey Laird and his agency Team Laird, in real-life scenes under a crisp, gray sky: a reflection of the reality of the rebel.

These three young multi-talented headliners each infuse the campaign with their own eccentricity and talent. Evan emits a spirit of playful charm, Tinashe a dash of daring defiance, and Bella a strikingly cool confidence. While their individual artistries are different, their stories, skills and style are all united by uniqueness – just like HUGO.

Not only do these campaigns stars stand out, the new Spring/Summer 2023 collection from HUGO is also showcased to shine. Contemporary, oversized denim, a sleekly reimagined logo, and layers of signature HUGO red make this season’s style statement. This in-your-face capsule of jeans, sweaters, hoodies and accessories for men; and bodywear, skirts, shoes and printed trousers for women blends liberal tailoring with unapologetically unique looks.

HELPING HER CLIENTS TO LIVE A LIFE OF LUXURY

Here, The Art of Luxury talks to entrepreneur JULIA CASTELLI, whose business is finding the right valuables for top people at the right price and time.

When you are super rich yet time poor, who do you turn to?

The amazing Julia Castelli, who has built a global one-woman business from procuring luxury for the super-rich: everything from prestige watches to fine jewellery, or haute couture to real estate.

Regular clients don’t even question whether she can source what they want - they simply describe it.

The president of a former Soviet republic came to trust her so much to acquire the right luxuries at the right price that he set her most unusual assignment to date – buy me a racehorse from the West.

“I thought he might be joking, I knew very little about racehorses then,” she said. “But I did what I always do: researched it thoroughly first, spoke to the best people, asked questions – then more questions – learned the terminology and veterinary matters involved, realised that shipping was vital and researched that too.

“And all the while I was heavily pregnant with my first child, but my client was delighted and I’m still working with him. Client relationships can become more friendship than business arrangement: I often get invited to weddings and other family events.”

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023
From racehorses and real estate to diamonds and haute couture, the super-rich put their trust in Julia Castelli.

Her clients and supplier contacts are split between wealthy individuals and client brands who consult her about business development, and are drawn from China and Hong Kong, the USA and Canada, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

And though she has a website Julia Castelli Lifestyle Management (juliacastelli.com) with the strapline ‘A Life Beyond Luxury For You’, she says business runs on word of mouth after a sales career working for super luxury brands like Chanel, Chopard, Asprey, Leviev and Sotheby’s.

She admits this belies her early life in Bulgaria, but she dismisses any suggestion that life was tough behind the ‘Iron Curtain’ before the Berlin Wall fell in 1989.

Julia, 47, grew up in a small town, Radomir, and said: “We didn’t feel any sense of rich and poor; I had a beautiful calm childhood, but things changed after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

“My parents then had to be more agile with work and there were periods when we didn’t have very much, but we opened a family coffee shop, another that sold lamps from Canada, and my father ran a taxi service and then imported and sold used cars from the West. I suppose that’s where my entrepreneurial skills come from.”

Julia later worked in the USA for five years but has spent the past 17 years in England and now lives in Wimbledon, when not travelling the world sourcing the rarest jewels and other items for her discerning clientele.

She recently visited three continents in a month: after an event in China, she returned to London and took her children to Lapland, before attending an auction in Geneva, flying to New York and then to the Dominican Republic.

Apart from her native Bulgarian, she is fluent in three languages: English, Italian and French and ‘gets by’ in Spanish and,

after living in four countries and visited more than 60, she said: “I now consider myself a citizen of the world. As a young girl my dream was to be one of those independently successful heroines portrayed in books by authors like Danielle Steel.”

And, for a while, she lived that dream, working for top names like French fashion house Chanel, and Swiss watch and luxury goods house Chopard.

Latterly, she also worked for Sotheby’s in London: “I was already working for myself and dealt with Sotheby’s – one of the world’s most famous auction houses. They then offered me the chance to write my own job description, but essentially it was to build relationships with top level clients.

“It was an exciting career chapter. I saw, touched, and tried on some very historic and unique jewels, royal tiaras, huge blue, pink and yellow diamonds, and watches, worth many millions each.

“I also placed telephone auction bids for clients, and it has been an exhilarating experience to see and hear millions being

spent in minutes – sometimes less than a minute.

“But Sotheby’s and I later agreed to part amicably as my own outside work was growing and I wanted freedom to work with anyone rather than worrying that this might conflict with Sotheby’s, with whom I remain on good terms.”

Though she never refuses any assignment within reason, Julia has several clear business sectors: jewellery and fashion, real estate – with clients usually looking to spend many millions – and has a particular interest in experiential travel and wellbeing.

“Clients now come to me about pieces of art too,” she added. “Something else where I have cultivated key contacts.

“Though it’s an overworked phrase, I guess I have become a ‘one-stop shop’. I save time and money for my clients – it’s very convenient having one person to trust and deal with. I don’t pretend to know everything, but clients know I am in touch with the right specialists and experts and will be diligent about finding exactly what they want.

Issue 57 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY

“Particularly so with travel and requests for special occasions and experiences. Clients expect high luxury, but I always like to give a little extra to surprise and please them. It’s important because for some, money has become so normal that it takes something special to make their face light up – I call it ‘making happy memories’.

“A special experience is haute couture events: staying somewhere unusual plus added extras and upgrades, perhaps visiting Coco Chanel’s apartment – which isn’t open to the public – or things money can’t buy. I specialise in unique, rare, and exclusive, limited edition items, but mostly one-offs - specially for them or totally bespoke. I simply have to go the extra mile – and love doing it.”

Jewellery is her first passion though: “I am fascinated by gemstones and their incredible colours and qualities– rubies, emeralds, sapphires – and anything rare such as coloured diamonds, and I am fortunate enough to have worked in the exclusive higher echelons of the diamond business, having sold blue, pink, chameleon diamonds and many other precious gems jewellery for personal wear and investments.”

And this discussion leads into an area of advice she is careful about – investment: “I always advise clients not to buy anything purely as a potential investment. I say ‘you must fall in love with the item, it’s personal, wear it, use it, live in it – if it also increases in value then that is a bonus’.

“Mind you, anything rare such as a coloured diamond is almost certain to become more valuable, if its origin and provenance is sound.”

Now to the awkward question: who pays her when the deal goes through?

“I source things by dealing directly with the supplier and I rely on long standing contacts with business owners, CEOs and decision makers there,” she said. “I may earn an

agreed commission or fee from the supplier, and no charges passed on to my client, but sometimes the client will pay a bonus.

“Every deal is different, but one stands out in my mind as it was the most I ever earned in one go – half a million pounds – and it came along soon after I went into business on my own. I knew then I had done the right thing.

“There were three happy parties here - the seller, my client and myself. The client got the best deal having searched in vain for that special rarity around the world and involved others in the search. That it was me who delivered just what he wanted at the best quality and price in that category was a huge satisfaction, while also underlining how it may take months to find ‘that special thing’ a client so badly desires.

“I was encouraged to back myself by my ex-husband, Matteo – we are still on very good terms and successfully co-parenting our two children Gheorghi, 14, and 11-yearold Grace.

“I had been working in-house but was frustrated and he said ‘you love your clients and you do so much for them, so work directly with them’ – it was the best thing I ever did.

“Mind you, I really earned that half a million deal with the work I put into it: my job is really about solving puzzles, for very rich but very busy people.

“Whether clients are keen on a deal can change in a moment and having that judgement to make the right call to them at the right time or wait patiently for their return call is not a job for everyone, but I find it exciting.

“And sometimes, even if it doesn’t happen, you know that the chance will come again.”

Samantha Siu is a NY based jewellery brand with a mission to create adventure and enchantment through fine jewellery while being committed to being socially and ethically responsible.

A LOVE AFFAIR

The designer, Samantha began working in the industry when she was just thirteen years old at her families high-volume manufacturing business. Later, while studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Jewellery design program, Samantha discovered that her interest lay in wax carving and helped the designer realise the initial inspiration for the brand.

Samantha Siu’s new collection ‘A Love Affair’ is inspired by the designers first love and the places they travelled together. It celebrates history, culture, nature and romance. Each necklace in the ten-piece collection pays homage to a place and moment that was significant to Samantha’s own love affair.

The collection is designed with a contemporary and sophisticated tone and displays the beauty of natural stones, as well as the intricacy of metalwork.

While the collection is designed by Samantha, each necklace is handmade and hand-assembled in the traditional style of jewellery making by an expert artisan in China and Thailand. The unique back clasps are first-hand carved in wax, a lost art form in jewellery. It then takes each artisan one month to create a clasp, and another few weeks to complete. This meticulous handcrafting results in complex and finely detailed pieces.

The brand’s craftsmen in Thailand construct the necklaces to completion. Each finished piece is carefully inspected to ensure the brand’s standards of exceptional quality are met.

The ‘A Love Affair’ collection represents a romantic, adventurous lifestyle with a philanthropic core. As a socially conscious company, 10% of the brand’s net profit is donated to charity via its sister non-profit, Phoenix International Foundation. The foundation supports nature conservation, enhances teacher training in third world countries and provides medical outreach to those who do not have readily available medical care. These global causes go hand-in-hand with the collection’s designs which celebrate locations and landmarks all over the world.

“THE ART OF HAPPINESS”,

THE GUERLAIN X MAISON MATISSE ARTISTIC COLLABORATION

embark on this collaboration, especially since we share values, exacting standards, a respect for precision and a love of color. This celebration of happiness is a beautiful initiative and a first for Maison Matisse.”

The Exceptional Piece – The Bee Bottle

Maison Matisse Edition

The quintessential “painter of happiness” and a sublime master of color, Henri Matisse was one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.

Guerlain is collaborating with Maison Matisse – founded by Jean-Matthieu Matisse, one of the painter’s great-grandsons – to celebrate the art of happiness with an exceptional piece and precious limitededition series inspired by Matisse’s palette.

Guerlain has nurtured a close relationship with art since the very founding of the Maison in 1828. Over the years, generations of Guerlain perfumers have found inspiration in the avant-garde artists of their times to elevate their creations. This connection has grown even stronger and more tangible since 2005 with Guerlain Haute Parfumerie, encompassing two remarkable celebrations of the art of perfumery. To start with, the Maison is pursuing its Exceptional Creations series, reprising and deepening support for contemporary artists and artisans by commissioning precious numbered limitededition designs. The second is the L’Art & La Matière collection, a captivating fragrance laboratory where Guerlain perfumers find creative inspiration in the emotions sparked

by works of art. Thanks to their talent and expertise, exceptional materials are revealed in new ways when the perfumers compose fragrances that transcend the olfactory signatures as perfume becomes art.

Inviting Maison Matisse for this first collaboration, Guerlain is celebrating the art of happiness with a tribute to the master of colors in two creations inspired by two of the artist’s paintings that themselves become full-fledge artworks.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Maison Matisse show its trust in us for these new creations. Our partnership is anchored by shared values of excellence, exacting standards and elegance, joined by a mutual love of beauty, nature and art,” says AnnCaroline Prazan, Guerlain Director of Art, Culture and Heritage.

Jean-Matthieu Matisse, founder of Maison Matisse, notes: “My great-grandfather’s works are very multi-sensory, his was a world full of plants and flowers and they became recurring motifs in his work. There are thus myriad compelling connections between his work and the artistry of Guerlain perfume. That’s why we were delighted to

The Maison Matisse edition of the Bee Bottle is entirely decorated with emblematic motifs inspired by La Musique, a painting done by Matisse in 1939. Just fourteen unique hand-painted signed and numbered bottles contain the Couleur Bonheur extrait de parfum, a fragrance whose olfactory notes are as sunny as the artist’s palette, a fruity chypre composition vibrant with color. As the iconic Bee Bottle fetes its 170th anniversary in 2023, this creation is an ode to painting, music and perfumery.

Jasmin Bonheur – a new fragrance

inspired by Matisse’s colors

Jasmin Bonheur reveals a vibrantly colorful jasmine, tinted with joyful hues – from the radiant orange apricot notes to the vibrant purple of iris and soft rose pink – in a precious limited-edition work of art that evokes Henri Matisse’s brilliant palette. Inspired the painter’s masterpiece Les Mille et Une Nuits, the  precious Jasmin Bonheur Maison Matisse is transformed by a decorative plate atop the cap and the colorful adornment of the case. Hearts, jasmine flowers and leaves are interpreted in a vibrant palette of fuchsia pink, lemon yellow, sunny orange, emerald green, Mediterranean blue and joyful red. This olfactory canvas brings the fragrance to life in a celebration of jasmine. The limited edition counts just 1,000 pieces worldwide. The collection also includes the Figue Azure scented candle, evoking a stroll in the shade of Mediterranean fig trees, in a limited edition of 500 pieces worldwide.

HOW TO PREVENT BACK, NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN WHEN TRAVELLING

Summer is almost here and it’s time to pack-up and ship out hopefully to a more exotic location for a few weeks of deserved rest and relaxation. The out-of-office is on, and of course a break from work is always necessary for overall health, however, if you are jetting off on a long haul flight this summer, no matter how comfortable your flight may be, the limited movement allowed in an aeroplane, plus the low cabin pressure can often cause stiff painful joints which can hamper the beginning of your holiday.

However by making small adjustments you can avoid injury and pain whilst flying or travelling long distances in a car. Here are my tips on how to travel without letting the effects of poor posture ruin the start of your holiday.

One major risk that comes with sitting for prolonged periods of time — whether it’s in a car or on a plane — is stiffness in joints and muscles. Sitting in the same position can cause swelling and even the risk of potential blood clots (deep vein thrombosis). Joint stiffness can also be an issue due to the joints not being stretched and the reduced motion and movement of the body.

You may not be able to avoid that long flight or hours in the car, but you can make some adjustments to the way you’re sitting — and have some exercises on hand that will help reduce the impact on your body.

Neck pain, shoulder pain, and even back pain are made worse by long hours in the car, or on a flight, due to sitting in the same position for a prolonged period. Keeping your muscles in a shortened or lengthened position for too long will cause them to tighten up and become sore. If you are on a long flight it’s important to take breaks and get up to stretch to get the blood flowing to your muscles again. Ensure that you get up a few times on your flight and disrupt the pattern of sitting for too long.

When sitting make sure your back is aligned against the seat, and your head is on the headrest to keep your spine in alignment, and keep your shoulders neutral and avoid slouching or hunching forward.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023

People often get neck and low back pain from when they fall asleep with their head in a severely bent position or when they continuously cross their legs and lean on an armrest, as it bends the back and causes you to compress one side and overstretch the other.

There are many conditions that could give rise to shoulder pain when flying but the most common is a condition known as Supraspinatus Tendonitis – an inflammation of one of a group of muscles known as the rotator cuff that surrounds the shoulder joint. It is an inflammatory condition, and pain is the end result, so if you are affected by it make sure you also carry some painkillers and/or anti inflammatories in case of emergency.

Generally, the best thing to do is to move as much as possible, as this helps with circulation and causes you to contract and relax your muscles so that any fluids do not get stagnant and this also gives you a little exercise at the same time. For the lower body, perform in-seat exercises like ankle circles/pumps, knee extensions, glute squeezes as this will help to pump the muscles and give them a little workout. Hold these squeezes for at least 10 seconds at a time for maximum results.

Get up and walk around the plane, as sitting for prolonged periods is not great for the back. Walking around allows you to move and get a stretch in the legs in the aisle. You can stretch the quads by bending the foot back to the butt and the calves. Stand with one foot in front of the other to feel the stretch in the back of the lower leg.

You can also do upper body stretches in your seat. For triceps, bring the arm overhead, bend the elbow and then pull the elbow to the side. For the back of the shoulder, bring the arm across the body and pull it across further with the other arm.

And for the abdominals, reach both arms straight overhead and stretch up and back. Any sort of movement is better than none, so these are easy to do without infringing on other passengers.

In cars, there is a little more space so sometimes people sit on their feet or put their feet up which rounds the lower back. This can cause disc-related pain as the flexed position is not healthy for the spine. Make sure you make a pit stop once an hour to get out and stretch helps to counteract the effects of sitting with poor posture. Similar to sitting at your desk, it is recommended to stop and get out of the car every hour. Do backward bends by placing the hands on the hips and moving the head and shoulders backward behind the pelvis to counteract the poor sitting posture.

TRADITIONNELLE TOURBILLON ARTISTIC CRAFTS PAYING TRIBUTE TO CHINESE MYTHOLOGY

At the heart of a finely engraved 18K 5N pink gold case, the legendary creatures take shape in the form of sculpted appliques on a hand-guilloché dial. The tourbillon is that of the ultra-thin Calibre 2160, an in-house movement equipped with a peripheral rotor.

LEGENDARY CREATURES

Forming the perfect couple and embodying the balance between strength and grace, the Phoenix and the Dragon have been intimately bound up with Chinese

culture for centuries. Given their status as supernatural harbingers of peace and symbolic of blissful relations between husband and wife, any sightings of one or both through the ages were considered to herald a glorious period of peace and prosperity of the people and the country as a whole. This is reflected in the Chinese saying: “When the dragon soars and the phoenix dances, the people will enjoy happiness for years, bringing peace and tranquillity to all under heaven.”

Although the details of their morphology vary from period to period, dragons are invariably composite creatures to

symbolise the unity of power, featuring various body parts derived from snakes, alligators, lizards, carp, eagles and tigers. Inhabiting palaces beneath the oceans, dragons had the power to regulate the water essential for corps, ending droughts and stopping floods. Another supernatural ‘spirit’, the Phoenix – king of birds whose finery is inspired by the peacock, pheasant, parrot, duck, rock and crane – embodies the five essential virtues of benevolence, righteousness, prosperity, sincerity and wisdom.

Highly revered and much-loved, these fabled creatures have thus been subject of

some of the most beautiful representations in Chinese mythology, where they are often seen dancing around a magic pearl, signifying harmony. As these legendary animals were considered auspicious, contemplating them could only be beneficial, while awaiting times of peace and prosperity. Images of the dragon and the phoenix appear on ceremonial jade ornaments and have been carved, painted or sewn into objects for everyday use – an artisanal custom that has been passed down through the ages.

HEAVENLY CHOREOGRAPHY, ENGRAVING AND GUILLOCHÉ WORK

Vacheron Constantin honours these legendary creatures by giving free rein to its design workshop and its artisans to represent them.

The Traditionnelle tourbillon watch illustrates the dance of Phoenix and Dragon around the pearl, a distinctive cultural symbol of China. The finishing of the latter indeed evolved during the production process: the pearl was initially to be polished and the flames sandblasted, whereas in fact the opposite was done

manually due to its extreme thinness (3/10 of a mm). This change served to endow the model with genuine radiance thanks to these animals. The two fabulous creatures are represented in the form of 18K 5N pink gold appliques that are stamped and then hand-finished using the pounced ornament technique that involves modelling with a scorper and then smoothing the reliefs with a file. Together, the fine details and precise operations used to represent the plumage of the phoenix with a rooster’s head symbolising the Chinese empress; and the undulating body of the scale-covered dragon emblematic of the emperor, orchestrate a heavenly choreography.

Thanks to the mobile tourbillon carriage shaped like Vacheron Constantin’s Maltese cross emblem, the entire scene comes to life, with the regulator serving as a support for one of the dragon’s legs, while the beating of the phoenix’s wings appears to set the tempo.

Depending on the galvanic treatment applied to the hand-guilloché dial, it adopts a black, deep blue or silver-toned hue, giving impressive depth to this mythological scene.

On the bezel and lugs, the sky is symbolised by a succession of volutes, carved in basrelief. This technique consists of removing material to highlight the contours of the sculpture. After drawing the motifs with a tracing point, the engraver works the decoration with a scorper, like a chasing operation that is ever-more refined as the tool becomes sharper. Volumes take shape, thanks to a delicate alternation of matt and glossy finishes.

ULTRA-THIN MOVEMENT

Operating at rate of 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5 Hz) and positioned at 6 o’clock, the tourbillon – whose carriage bears the small seconds indication by means of a blackened screw – enlivens this ‘carnival of the animals’. It can also be admired through the sapphire caseback without being concealed by the oscillating weight. The movement construction incorporates a peripheral rotor winding the barrel to ensure a comfortable 80-hour power reserve. The choice of the peripheral rotor also contributes to the slenderness of Calibre 2160 which, despite the presence of the tourbillon, is barely 5.65 mm thick.

This ultra-thin movement with its 188 components has made it possible to offer an 18K 5N pink gold case with a total thickness of 11.21 mm and a 41 mm diameter that is suitable for all wrists.

The finishing of Calibre 2160 offers the same high level of quality as the embellishment of the dial.

The bar of the tourbillon carriage is entirely hand-bevelled, as are the movement components. The mainplate is circulargrained on the dial side, while the bridges are adorned with Côtes de Genève on the back. Paired with a black, deep blue or brown alligator leather strap, depending on the model, secured a folding clasp and available in a limited boutique edition of 16 timepieces for each dial colour, this watch embodies a perfect symbiosis of artistic crafts and fine watchmaking.

SUM-UP

To honour the Chinese legend of the Phoenix and the Dragon, Vacheron Constantin presents three numbered limited-edition Traditionnelle tourbillon watches. The two fabulous animals are depicted in a traditional manner, beautifully choreographed in their dance around the pearl. Legendary creatures from Chinese mythology, the Phoenix and the Dragon symbolise strength and grace: a perfect complementarity that procures peace and happiness. On the dial of the three models, the Phoenix and the Dragon come to life in the form of pink gold appliques sculpted on a hand-guilloché dial. The galvanic dial treatment in black, deep blue and silver tones distinguishes the three versions of the model, each issued in a 16-piece limited edition. The 41 mm-diameter case in 18K 5N pink gold is engraved with cloud-like volutes on the bezel and lugs, which form a bas-relief motif on the case middle. In-house self-winding Calibre 2160 with tourbillon was chosen to enliven this mythological scene. Measuring just 5.65 mm thick thanks to its peripheral rotor ensuring an 80-hour power reserve, this ultra-thin movement with 188 components has made it possible to offer an elegant case with a sapphire back providing a view of the finishing details.

JAEGER-LECOULTRE PRESENTS ‘WALK INTO THE DAWN’, A BEAUTIFUL NEW CAMPAIGN STARRING ANYA TAYLOR-JOY

Walking into the dawn elicits the steps that bring us closer to realising our dreams – the dreams that we may wish upon a shooting star.

In an evocative new video and series of photographs, Anya tells a story without words, in a dance sequence of lightness, elegance and swirling movement that echoes the flight-path of the shooting star across the dial of the watch.

Dancing comes naturally to Anya, who trained as a ballerina and has danced in several of her film roles, as in Last Night in Soho and The Queen’s Gambit. Much more than a professional skill, dancing is an essential part of her life, she says: “The first thing I do every morning is dance –crazy dancing in my bedroom or kitchen. It makes my spirits soar and sets me up for the day. When I’m dancing is when I feel most alive to all of life’s possibilities.”

‘Walk into the Dawn’ evokes these possibilities. Fluid and strong, Anya’s movements reflect her personal aesthetic – sleek and sophisticated, characterful and versatile, reminiscent of the timepiece that she wraps around her wrist.

“The Rendez-Vous Dazzling Shooting Star is a miniature work of art for the wrist,” says Anya. “The shooting star on the dial is incredibly romantic and the sparkling blue dial and circles of diamonds make it very glamorous – and yet I see it as a watch that could be a genuine ally for my daily life, from morning until evening, counting out the beats of the day.”

Celebrating femininity, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new ‘Walk into the Dawn’ campaign features Anya Taylor-Joy in a dreamlike ode to the Rendez-Vous Dazzling Shooting Star.

Introduced at Watches & Wonders in 2022, the Rendez-Vous Dazzling Shooting Star was inspired by the wonders of the night sky. Intrigued by the ephemeral beauty of shooting stars, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s watchmakers decided to capture this rare celestial phenomenon in a timepiece. Harnessing their unwavering commitment to creativity – a value shared with our brand ambassador in her acting career – they invented an entirely new mechanism that makes a star shoot across the dial at random intervals, just as real shooting stars streak across the heavens. Enhancing the effect, a sparkling blue aventurine dial is surrounded by a ring of claw-set diamonds – the signature of the Rendez-Vous Dazzling line.

ABOUT ANYA TAYLOR-JOY

Born in Miami when her British-Argentine parents were visiting the city in 1996, Anya Taylor-Joy was raised in Buenos Aires and London, speaking Spanish as her first language. Trained in ballet until the age of 15, she turned to acting and won rave reviews for her breakout performance in Robert Egger’s The Witch in 2015. A series of critically acclaimed roles followed, including Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho (in which she revealed a captivating singing voice). In 2020, the Netflix hit The Queen’s Gambit shot her star into the stratosphere; her mesmerising portrayal of chess prodigy Beth Harmon won a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors’ Guild award and a Critics’ Choice award. This was followed by a starring role in Robert Eggers’ The Northman. During 2022, Anya was seen in David O. Russell’s Amsterdam with Christian Bale and Margot Robbie, and Mark Mylod’s comedy-horror The Menu with Ralph Fiennes and Nicholas Hoult, winning a Golden Globe nomination for the latter. Anya recently completed filming the title role in Furiosa, the Mad Max prequel, which is due for release in May 2024.

ABOUT THE THE RENDEZVOUS SHOOTING STAR

jaeger-lecoultre.com

Introduced in 2022, the Rendez-Vous Shooting Star succeeds in the unprecedented feat of capturing a random cosmic phenomenon in a watchmaking complication. Inspired by the rarity and ephemeral beauty of shooting stars, the watchmakers of Jaeger-LeCoultre invented a new mechanism, Calibre 734, that sends a star shooting across the watch dial at random moments, several times each hour. The dial comprises three layers, the first of which conceals the shooting star when it is inactive. Beneath it is a circular disc with a cut-out of the shooting star that streaks across the dial when activated by movements of the wrist. As the star passes, the cut-out reveals a disc of glowing golden metal that accentuates the sense of movement. This beautiful complication lends itself to many different aesthetic interpretations, providing an ideal canvas for the decorative crafts of the Manufacture’s Métiers Rares® atelier.

ARCEAU WOW

A square in a circle, small squares in a large square. Hermès loves to play with shapes. From the distant memory of those children’s games combining colours and volumes, Hermès has given life to a unique and playful watch. It could have been called Double Face, or Recto/Verso. Wow suits it so much better!

Wow, like his original idea. Two years ago, young comic book artist Ugo Bienvenu designed a surprising silk scarf for Hermès. It was named Wow. Why Wow? Because it picks up Hermès’ cherished equestrian spirit and transposes it into the world of comics.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023
114 WATCHES & TIMEPIECES THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023

The designer vaulted into the saddle and set his foot in the stirrups to offer small square comic-book-style panels within the large square shape of the silk scarf. Squares, bubbles, animation… A heroine crosses Paris on jet skis, rollerblades, in cars and of course on horseback. Two amused golfers wonder who this intrepid woman is? Amazon, secret agent, Parisian heroine? All that and more: she is the Hermès woman.

The Wow effect comes not only from the pattern, but also from the way in which is created, including a different colour scheme on each side: a multicolored interpretation on the front and a monochrome version on the back.

The idea made its way from Paris to Switzerland and the workshops of Hermès Horloger. A double-sided dial? Why not, as long as it is thin and translucent like the silk thread that inspired it. The obvious choice was mother-of-pearl, a dainty, elegant and feminine material through which the ray of light could shine and enable the artisan to set about creating a playfully radiant motif.

On the first side, the design is initially reproduced in black ink, visible on both sides. It guides the deft touch of the artisan until the last brush stroke. The entire décor

of the motif is then hand-painted on this first side. The pastel colours are applied one by one: thick enough to give depth to the design, yet thin enough to let the light shine through – a subtle balance calling for the finest skilled craftsmanship. It takes about 20 layers to bring out every nuance of this design. Each is fired in the kiln at 90 °C to solidify the precious pigment.

The horse and heroine are majestically enthroned on the second face corresponding to the upper dial side of the watch. The colour is sharper, the volume denser, the design is every bit as lively as the rider and her mount. Together, they literally burst out of the dial. The Hermès gallop responds to the silky, muted solid colours painted on the reverse side of

the watch with its brightly varied shades, its relief effects and its boldness. While the horse’s movement makes a sudden appearance, it stems from a wealth of meticulous and diligent work involving more than 35 hours to produce a single dial.

This timepiece with its Arceau case designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978 comes in two versions powered by the same Manufacture H1912 self-winding movement. The first flaunts a dial in soft pink tones, while the second opts for bluish accents. Paired with a Hermès calfskin strap, each of these white gold Arceau Wow model features a bezel set with 82 diamonds and is issued in a 24-piece limited edition. hermes.com

HEESEN KICKS OFF 2023 WITH 15 YACHTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Having sold two yachts in 2022, world-leading Dutch shipyard Heesen has started 2023 with an incredible fifteen yachts under construction, four of which will be launched this year.

In line with their new commercial offer, Full Custom Project Skyfall and Project Sparta, Smart Custom Project Oslo24, and Project Apollo, the first in the restyled 55-metre Steel Series, will be unveiled this year. Heesen has also announced a new explorer design concept, in partnership with Winch Design, XV67.

There are currently more superyachts in build than at any other time in history, up a remarkable 17.48% on last year’s high. The United States continues to be the first market for the superyacht industry, and accounts for 50% of Heesen’s clientele.

“At Heesen, we have the perfect mix of full-custom and fast delivery” comments Arthur Brouwer, CEO of Heesen, “We occupy a unique position in the market – we are one of the few northern European shipyards with a strong speculative programme that shortens the delivery time and allows competitive prices for top-quality superyachts with a proven track record. We cater to clients who want to save time without compromising on quality, and who desire a unique yacht that is the true expression of their personality and lifestyle.”

Example of a yacht sold in 2022: 55-METRE, PROJECT SERENA

Overview: A Semi-Custom who’s sale was announced at last year’s Monaco Yacht Show. She is another shining example of the shipyard’s successful 55-metre steel series, which was sold by Arcon Yachts

Monaco

Performance: Her top speed is 15.5 knots and she boasts a maximum range of 4,500 nautical miles when navigating at cruising speed, with power coming from two MTU diesel engines.

Design: Serena sports an appealing exterior style which mixes modern with traditional. Interior design by Luca Dini Design and Architecture and exterior by Frank Laupman at Omega Architects.

of luxury and performance, to reflect her owner’s individuality.

Performance: Skyfall will reach a top speed of 37 knots in light load conditions, thanks to the 22,000-horsepower produced by four MTU 20V4000 engines driving four Kongsberg S90 water jets.

Design: Omega Architects have been appointed to design Project Skyfall. The interior layout is perfectly tailored to suit the Owner’s lifestyle, with the bridge deck aft completely reserved for the Owner’s private use. A generous master stateroom centred around relaxation opens onto a private terrace, equipped with a whirlpool

and seating area. Ten guests can be accommodated in four suites on the lower deck. On the main deck forward, the media room features a cinema and a games table for sociable entertainment when at sea. There is also a dedicated area for the owner’s dog.

67M PROJECT SPARTA

Overview: Sparta stems from Project Avanti a design concept first presented at the Monaco Yacht Show 2018. Project Sparta showcases a dynamic architecture. Indoor and outdoor spaces connect harmoniously and create the perfect haven for family life and relaxation. The layout is characterised by a full beam salon on the main deck and private Owner’s deck as well as one of the largest wellness areas ever seen on a yacht of this size.

Performance: An outstanding interior volume maximises every corner of the 1,200 GT.

Design: Winch Design was appointed to this ‘Pocket megayacht’ project and created a new-look sporty profile, paving the way for the next generation of Heesen yachts. The added value is undoubtedly the five-metre infinity pool.

Yachts to be launched in 2023 include:

PROJECT OSLO24

Overview: This Smart Custom hybrid yacht, based on the proven 50-metre Steel Series, boasts a helm station on the flybridge for the owner to drive his boat and still enjoy the company of his guests, and a private office on the wheelhouse deck, as well as Heesen’s ultra-efficient and extremely quiet hybrid propulsion system. Smart Custom yachts are fully engineered above and below the main deck but can be offered with a custom-designed superstructure; benefitting a smart balance between performance, speedy delivery and customisation.

Performance: Thanks to Heesen hybrid system, Oslo24 will benefit from outstanding flexible power management and deliver the ultimate luxury in yachting: silent cruise!

Design: The exterior is designed by Clifford Denn Yachts and features automotive inspired details and interiors by Luca Dini Design and Architecture who have been working closely with the owners and their team to create a unique interior that reflects their lifestyle and taste.

55M PROJECT APOLLO

Overview: The first in the newly restyled 55-metre Steel Series

Performance: Project Apollo offers the best combination of space and comfort.

Design: Apollo features exterior lines restyled by Omega Architects who originally created the muscular profile of the 55m Steel Series. Lower aft bulwarks and railings and larger expanses of floor-toceiling glass expand the view, bringing a greater sense of sea and sky into the interior. A French balcony adds a whole new dimension to the owner’s apartment. Luca Dini Design & Architecture created an elegant and sculptural interior design for Apollo, featuring light and warm tones. Twelve guests can be accommodated in six staterooms, all with private en-suite bathrooms.

Yachts under construction include:

55-METRE, PROJECT VENUS

Overview: Project Venus is the latest in the 55-metre Steel Series.

Performance: Thanks to her steel Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), Project Venus is not only extremely efficient throughout her speed range but offers superb stability and comfort in all sea conditions. Two MTU4000 M63 (IMO Tier III) propel her to a maximum speed of 15.5 knots and provide a transatlantic range of 4,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 13 knots.

Design: With bold and muscular exterior lines by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, this yacht stands out on the water for her sturdy yet elegant profile. She is large enough to offer plenty of outdoor and indoor areas for relaxing, socialising and enjoying life on board, and yet not too big to access all the most charming harbours in the Mediterranean.

67-METRE, XV67

In collaboration with Winch Design and conceived to travel off the beaten track in total safety and five-star comfort, XV67 will be able to roam the Galapagos Islands or even the Arctic Ocean but still look elegant and utterly at home in St Tropez or Portofino.

XV67 creates a new audience - a client who seeks a sense of adventure while enjoying a luxury lifestyle. The basic engineering of the boat has been completed, allowing a future buyer to save valuable time in the construction; however the concept is the perfect base for clients to express their creativity and customise the yacht to suit the type of adventure they want to take part of with their family.

XV67 can carry a full complement of toys which includes 10m tenders, a personal submarine and sailing dinghies. It can be available with or without a helipad, with one of the best Spa and Watersports facilities; as well as a 3-level owner’s suite.

BLUENAUTECH

Heesen’s commitment to sustainable innovation is demonstrated through its new hybrid propulsion system, which is now available on all yachts. Their programme, BlueNautech, is a sustainability initiative to reduce their manufacturing footprint and the overall environmental impact of yachting. It features six pillars including: increasing hull efficiency, improving propulsion efficiency, energy saving at anchor, sustainable operations, alternative materials and recycling (in conjunction with designers using sustainable materials and fabrics); and sustainable production methods.

Arthur Brouwer, Heesen CEO, commented: “We were the first shipyard who dared to

take the financial risk of building hybrid yachts on speculation and today, all our yachts are available with hybrid propulsion as an option. ‘Be the change you want to see in the world’ is our mantra. Today, that change is real. It is a pleasure to see that clients trust our systems and decide to implement them in their highly customised yachts to reduce their footprint.”

Originally founded by Frans Heesen in 1978 in Oss, Netherlands, Heesen builds the finest yachts with exceptional standards of engineering, outstanding technology and meticulous attention to detail. Research and innovation are part of the Heesen DNA, with the company continually investing in R&D and new technologies.

IT’S ALL AROUND YOU

Welcome to Tiaré, a luxurious yet traditional Indonesian Phinisi that will take you on a journey of discovery to some of the most stunning diving spots in the world.

The Tiaré began as the dream of 5 cousins, discussed over a summer dinner party.

This dream to create a luxurious dive boat built by the master builders of South Sulawesi came together with careful design, the sturdiest and most beautiful materials sourced from sustainable sources, hightech components and safety equipment… and of course, time.

Experience diving in the rich waters of the Indonesian archipelago and meet people from the many different cultures on the diverse Indonesian islands that you would never have the opportunity to see while staying in more tourist-heavy areas.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT ON BOARD TIARÉ

Tiaré offers a spectacular experience for divers as well as non-divers, with bright airy cabins, spacious bathrooms and a large front deck where you can socialize, eat under the stars or just relax in the Indonesian sunshine. There is also a separate diving deck with hot water showers to warm up after a night dive.

All indoor and outdoor living areas, decks, and cabins are made with antique teak salvaged from old Joglos, which not only gives the feel of “real Indonesia”, but has helped to reduce the use of Indonesia’s disappearing rainforests.

LIVING AREA

Designed to be a space where you feel

totally at home with an extra touch of luxury, comfortable couches and tables are the perfect place to socialize and catch up with your fellow divers. If you need to rest, have a nap, read a book or watch a film. A bar stocked with imported wines and a selection of other drinks is a welcome treat after a day of diving and a small cigar store is available for cigar connoisseurs. As well as comfortable couches, the air-conditioned indoor lounge also has tables where dinner can be served as an alternative to the main deck depending on weather conditions and your preference. There are also PCs where you can edit photos or videos and also an indoor camera room, which has plenty of room to store your lenses, charges, lights and even your spare cameras.

Bow lounge

In addition to the indoor living area, the outdoor bow lounge is a space to enjoy and experience the freedom of being at sea. Watch the crew at work, birds flying overhead or count the millions of stars in the clear night sky from comfortable loungers and couches.

CABINS

More like a 5-star hotel than a boat, the six cabins on Tiaré are your home away from home designed with relaxation and the perfect sleep in mind. You’ll enjoy soft linens and well thought out lighting and plug placement as well as spacious ensuite bathrooms, hot water showers and environmental friendly body wash and shampoo.

Two triple cabins are spacious enough to accommodate two adults and one child or three adults, with under-bed storage to ensure ease of movement around the cabin. The other four cabins, two twin and two double, accommodate two adults each for a maximum capacity of 14 guests.

With 14 guests on board Tiaré is comfortable and spacious enough for both a social atmosphere and space to relax and enjoy down time in the luxurious cabins. www.tiarecruise.com

Tillberg Design of Sweden (TDoS), part of The Viken Group, has designed a luxury superyacht, also called a yacht liner, for Four Seasons, a renowned brand that runs 127 luxury hotels and resorts all over the planet.

TILLBERG DESIGN OF SWEDEN DESIGNED FIRST 207-METRE “YACHT LINER” FOR FOUR SEASONS WITH DELIVERY IN 2025

The studio has been appointed for the designing and master planning as well as the complete exterior styling of the 207-metre vessel that is scheduled to be launched in 2025. TDoS also designed all the guest suite accommodation, including the illustrious funnel suite, and a few of the most iconic guest shared areas onboard.

“This project confirms a new and strong trend in modern yachting - luxury yacht liners. They are a new breed of very exclusive vessels that combine the scale of small and intimate cruise ships with superyachts’ amenities, splendour and level of sophistication,” said TDoS’ Partner and Executive Director Fredrik Johansson.

“Our new project started with a very clear

and unique vision from our client. The brief was condensed into a single line: imagine that [legendary yacht built for Aristotle Onassis] Christina O meets James Bond. It would be hard to go wrong there, you may think - but it is also a huge challenge. You must not go wrong - failure is simply not an option. Every part and every detail of the yacht has to be perfect.”

BETTER TOGETHER

Established in 2022, The Viken Group includes Tillberg Design of Sweden, Hot Lab and Thalia Marine. It provides a full range of design, naval architecture and project management services in the yachting industry. All these proficiencies will be available to both cruise line and yacht clients, as well as to customers within hotel, resorts and private island developments. TDoS has long been one of the major players in cruising design and today it specialises in design concepts for cruise ships and yachts, while also providing graphic design and branding for a variety of clientele.

Based in Trieste, Italy, Thalia Marine is a fullservice project management firm providing technical design expertise ranging from design consultancy, quantity surveys, on-site inspections and much more for the cruise ship and yacht building industries.

Hot Lab from Milan, Italy is The Viken Group’s most recent acquisition. The studio embraces the sophisticated “Architecture for Voyagers” concept that helps find the perfect balance between style and luxury. It has received some of the most prestigious international design awards in the yachting industry, including many World Superyacht Awards and ShowBoats Design, and it works with interior and exterior designs on both custom and series produced yachts.

ICONIC YACHT LINER

For the Four Seasons Yacht the TDoS team has created a truly timeless elegance, with a curvaceous and elegant architecture. The harmonious lines and proportions of Christina O, which also featured a very generous and beautifully furnished aft pool deck, inspired the designers to add a 20-metre long pool with a surrounding deck in the very aft of the 14-deck Four Seasons Yacht, and its layout caters perfectly for both privacy and socialising. The pool bottom will double up as a stage for catwalks, live music, etc.

Issue 57 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023 THE ART OF LUXURY 125 YACHTS & YACHTING
The yacht is engineered and constructed by Fincantieri.

“At the inception of this project, Tillberg Design of Sweden worked very closely with the Marc-Henry team and Four Seasons, in analysing extensive market research, and creating a very clear and solid brand manifesto. As we are building a whole new guest experience from scratch, this document has been instrumental as a guidance for the development of our entire yacht, which has turned out distinctly unique,” said Larry Pimentel, CEO of MarcHenry Cruise Holdings. “The iconic, timeless and beautiful exterior is also the work of TDoS, and they have since master planned the whole vessel, designed all the guest suites, and some of the prime public areas onboard. Our collaboration with TDoS has been incredibly inspiring and fruitful. As our lead architects, they have once again demonstrated their passion and deep knowledge of high-end design, from the broad strokes down to the finest details.”

The silhouette of Christina O is largely shaped by its large and iconic funnel. The Four Seasons Yacht however, will be designed and equipped to minimise emissions. The Tillberg Design of Sweden team therefore thought hard and long of a way to give the funnel of the Four Seasons Yacht a completely new and innovative context - and the concept of the sublime ‘Funnel Suite’ was born. Guests will have a total of 892 square metres of combined indoor & outdoor space, distributed over four levels, meaning that they really

are on top of the world here. It’s also accessible, directly and privately, from a tender platform at water level, allowing one to invite friends onboard at complete discretion. This is as close as one will come to a true James Bond moment on any yacht.

“Much inspiration was taken from the private and sophisticated atmosphere of Surf Club, Miami Beach - and of course from the golden era of classic yachting. Already at the outset, we concluded that the master planning must be made to welcome every single guest as if it was to the yacht of a close friend, instilling an instant sense of relaxation and belonging,” adds Johansson.

Yet another spectacular design feature onboard is the port-to-starboard transversal marina. Not only is this dual marina a unique engineering masterpiece, but its terraced design also allows the guests to

enjoy the sea first hand, with immediate access to water activities, and to “sea limousine” transfers to shore. It can also be transformed into an exclusive dining experience.

DOLCE VITA INTERIOR

As for the interior, the TDoS’ design team will create suites and social spaces that reflect a truly effortless Dolce Vita and worldly sophistication, offering everything that is essential for a truly epic yachting experience.

The vessel’s 95 spacious accommodations will feature an extensive network of joining suite combinations creating adaptable, villa-like residences. Each suite will offer floor-to-ceiling windows providing unobstructed natural light and access to expansive terrace decks. The combination of generous indoor and outdoor private guest space and ceiling heights of more than 2.4 metres will achieve a new level of guest comfort. The Four Seasons Yacht will also feature a number of high-class restaurants, lounges, bars, spas and other high-class amenities.

Tillberg Design of Sweden has a strong experience in the relatively new yacht liner field. The studio is the lead architect for master planning and interior concepts for 222-metre Somnio dubbed the world’s largest private residence superyacht and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection.

CL YACHTS CLX96 DESIGNED FOR LIFE WITHOUT COMPROMISE

The latest model to join its impressive fleet is CLX96, and once again the yard’s no-compromise approach has produced a yacht that is as stunning to look at as it is irresistible for enjoying time on the water.

This ethos is embodied in CLX96’s bold design – the result of an equally bold decision to look outside the yacht industry for inspiration, which CL Yachts found in renowned designer Jozeph Forakis of jozeph forakis … design. The Milan-based maestro has been creating iconic designs in sectors as diverse as furniture and watches for over two decades, with yacht design being his latest venture.

“In early 2017, CL Yachts reached outside

the industry and asked me to rethink yacht design and yachting experiences,” Forakis says. “They gave me a clean slate to conceive a new vision for the yacht of today and tomorrow. With in-depth research methodologies and a focus on intelligent design, complementing my passion for sailing and ‘outsiders’’ imagination and dreams, the result is a vessel that departs from convention.”

CLX96’s angular, workboat-chic lines are more than a mere styling exercise – the forward-raked windscreens on the main and upper decks are designed to reduce both glare and heat while also increasing interior living space. Combined with the expansive glazing, the result is an

interior that is not only light and airy, but seamlessly integrates with outside areas and seascapes, offering near-uninterrupted 360-degree views. It speaks to a design philosophy that incorporates style and substance in equal measure.

“Good design tells the story of the producer. The shipyard is a preeminent builder of commercial craft and luxury yachts – thus the inspiration for the ‘workboat chic’ concept,” Forakis explains. “While her bold double-reverse-angle profile and iconic wing-like flybridge bulwark are visually distinctive, these elements were born from a holistic, functional reconsideration of the way to live on a yacht and informed by precise structural principles. Threedimensionally,” he continues, “the hull and flybridge bulwark create a fluid and graceful formal integration in space. The convex curve of the hull sides continues precisely to the flybridge bulwark’s sides, allowing the subconscious eye to unite these elements visually.”

CLX96, Forakis says, pushes boundaries of innovation and yachting experiences with flowing indoor and outdoor spaces, and it speaks not only to good design but also to the idea of uninhibited lifestyle and the opportunity to enjoy the sense of being on the water even when inside. “Unprecedented amounts of light penetrate the interiors – made possible by advanced composite structures with lightweight, thin, strong mullions allowing oversize windows throughout,” Forakis enthuses.

This is reinforced on the main deck with trifold doors to starboard that open the midships area to the side deck and bulwark cutaway, creating a near-alfresco dining area in the heart of the main deck’s open plan living space. This area blends seamlessly with the comfortable aft saloon and forward country-style galley with island and Champagne Lounge – the perfect spot for cocktails and canapes while enjoying the seascapes beyond. “The saloon’s open, loft-like plan, large windows, and narrow columns – a showcase of CL Yachts’ extensive experience with composite structures – give uninterrupted 360° views and full visibility from aft to the bow,” Forakis offers.

The sense of space and the inside-outside feeling continue on the upper deck, with the enclosed helm and Sky Lounge forward offering shade and climate-controlled comfort, and the huge aft sundeck area combining everything needed for outside living – sofas and dining table, grill, fridge and icemaker. The Sky Lounge’s electric windows can be fully opened to create the feel of an open upper deck with a hardtop for shade, and the aft coachroof extension that provides shade to the alfresco seating and dining area offers a sunroof.

In front of the bridge Forakis’s rethink of conventions has led to a ‘Terrazza Portoghese’, a generous additional deck

space unique to this yacht that is perfect for sun loungers, while on the foredeck there is an inviting ‘Piazza del Sole’ – a circular aperitif lounge that converts into a giant sunbed. Aft, the generous swim platform makes for a perfect beach club, with the Z-lift central transformer section creating an additional terrace extension on the water.

Below, CLX96’s standard configuration offers four guest cabins including a vast master suite forward complete with skylight over the king-size bed, a full-beam midships VIP cabin with virtual skylight, and two twin/double convertible guest cabins with ensuites. There are crew quarters aft for up to four crew.

The master stateroom includes his-and-hers ensuite in the bow, while a bow-mounted forward facing HD camera can send the forward view for display on the 65-inch television on the bulkhead forward of the bed which, combined with the views through the large hull glazing to port and starboard, completes a panoramic view. The ensuite features smart glass for added privacy.

THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023 130 YACHTS & YACHTING
THE ART OF LUXURY Issue 57 2023

Finishes throughout are luxurious but considered. “The materials, finishes, and colours are restricted, giving a sense of continuity to the spaces for this new series – and emphasizing pure daylight as an essential ‘material’,” Forakis enthuses. “Through seamless surfaces, subtle curves, and flowing planes, we wanted to remind people at all times that they are on a ‘vessel’ meant to transport them through space and time toward the future.”

The materials and palette include walnut for the walls, teak and holly soles for the main and upper deck interiors, black marquina and satin snowflake marble for the bars and countertops, and a range of textures and materials in off-whites, warm greys and browns punctuated with occasional orange highlights.

It is another part of the holistic design philosophy that creates a sense of luxury and lifestyle that both hides and highlights that fact that you are on a yacht. Designed both for living and for life on the water without compromise, CLX96 marks a bold new step both for CL Yachts and for yachting.

Reflective of their tastes, our ‘Cullinan – Inspired by Fashion’ models are designed as statement pieces, perfectly tailored to suit the lifestyles of our clients”.

To offer a glimpse into infinite Bespoke possibilities, for ‘Cullinan – Inspired by Fashion’ designers created eight distinctive personalities. Each collection includes two interior colourways defined by iconic accent colours: Lime Green or Peony Pink for Re-Belle and Mandarin or Forge Yellow for Fu Shion. Each interior style can be paired with one of two carefully selected exterior looks – either eye-catching or more discrete and understated.

‘Cullinan – Inspired by Fashion’ Re-Belle is the ultimate statement piece, reflecting contemporary colour blocking trends with its vivid hues and playful combination of textures. A splash of colour in the interior with Peony Pinkor Lime Green accents provides an irresistible contrast to the Arctic White or Cashmere Grey leather trim. The fascia is finished with extraordinarily detailed handwoven stainless-steel fabric,

evocative of metallic apparel seen on this year’s catwalks. Delicate thread with a diameter as fine as 0.45 mm creates an intricate texture, which catches the light beautifully as the vehicle is in motion.

‘Cullinan – Inspired by Fashion’ Re-Belle is offered in Lime Green, Gunmetal, Wildberry or Arctic White exterior colours, available depending on the selected interior.

Unleashing the daring Black Badge personality, ‘Cullinan – Inspired by Fashion’ Fu-Shion reinterprets high fashion with a utilitarian edge. Reminiscent of the Spring/Summer 2023 prêt à-porter collections, embellished with functional elements evocative of street wear, Fu Shion showcases Cullinan’s personality – the

pinnacle of luxury, effortless everywhere. For Fu-Shion, designers created two interior styles: an eye-catching combination of Military Green, Navy Blue and Mandarin or a blend of Arctic White and Cashmere Grey leather with Forge Yellow accents. Depending on the interior palette, ‘Cullinan – Inspired by Fashion’ Fu-Shion can be

commissioned in one of four exterior colours: Military Green, Burnout grey, Forge Yellow or Tempest Grey.

For ‘Cullinan – Inspired by Fashion’, designers created the all-new Starlight Tailgate – a stunning feature which extends the magical, celestial ambience of the

Starlight Headliner beyond the interior of the motor car. This Bespoke feature, which takes over 22 hours to manufacture, includes 192 softly illuminated stars incorporated into the perforated leather. The Starlight Tailgate is complemented by the Viewing Suite, creating a perfect setting to enjoy the enchanting beauty of a starry night, anywhere and everywhere.

A further innovation is to be found on the lower part of the fascia, which introduces a coloured Piano veneer for the first time: Cashmere Grey for Re Belle and Navy Blue for Fu-Shion. This glossy finish acts as a unifying element, bringing yet more depth to the interior.

For travel in ultimate style, ‘Cullinan –Inspired by Fashion’ is available with matching luggage sets, designed to complement each of the four interior themes. The collection comprises of the 24hr Weekender, 48hr Weekender, Holdall, Tote Bag and Organiser Pouch, offered individually or as a five-piece set.

Maggiore Project M is an exclusive project to relive the fantastic 80s with the most modern technology and the finest materials.

A perfect mix of Heritage, Design, Technology, and Italian Style to create unique and totally customizable pieces, like a tailored suit.

Only 40 cars will be produced, all following the wishes of each customer.

M like Maggiore, but also M like Magnum P.I., the iconic series tv where Tom Selleck shared the show with his amazing Ferrari 308, a car with a soul and with an unmistakable line which can survive through the ages.

The project is a genuine “tribute”, not in the sense of nostalgia but rather giving new life to cars that in time might have been relegated to museums or closed in the garages of collectors.

A modern reinterpretation of an iconic star of 80s, using the best technology and a deep attention to Heritage and Design.

The donor car is a real Ferrari 308 and the starting point are the original chassis and the original engine, but then all the parts have been completely re-Designed and re-built to guarantee reliability and performance of these days with a vintage allure.

The Engine has been rebuilt by Italtecnica, a well-known Italian company specialized in racing and special projects.

The body is completely realized in carbon fiber to reduce the weight, all the mechanical components have been upgraded or re-Designed and the interiors have been refreshed with high end materials, such as leather, carbon fiber and marble, a touch of our roots and a sign of our customization program.

The research into the materials and colours to use was carried out by the Studio Stefan Scholten, a Design studio based in Amsterdam with many Italian influences. It was precisely this union of modern Northern European design commingling with Italian culture and Mediterranean styles that inspired us to choose this studio as partner for the development of this project.

There will not exist 2 cars with the same specs!

The internal components of the engine are all new, the suspensions are made of lightweight aluminum alloy, a new Brembo brake system and bigger alloy wheels.

The aim of Automobili Maggiore was to put the driver back at the center of the stage, that’s why you can find a manual gearbox and a high rev natural aspirated engine ready to go up to 8000 rpm.

400 HP for 1200kg, with a manual shift to change gears and without electronic controls....Driving pleasure is guaranteed! info@automobilimaggiore.com www.automobilimaggiore.com

REVIEW > FORD MUSTANG MACH-E GT

When Ford first launched the Mustang Mach-E GT our first question was well is that really a mustang? I cannot remember the last car that was launched into the market that had any many questions to answer as this did.

The MACH-E GT has a very close competitor in the Tesla Model Y and while the Model Y is an excellent car, it is lacking the Iconic nameplate and also the excitement factor that you are driving a Mustang. The MACH-E GT may be an SUV, but it offers the speed, acceleration and thrill that you would expect from a car wearing the Mustang Badge.

Overall the ride is pretty good, the suspension excels on large bumps and the seats are soft and comfortable enough but don’t leave the heated seats on for too long as it does get rather toasty quickly. I was pleasantly surprised with the space inside the car which gives ample room in the rear for two adults and the boot offers more than enough space. Some of the features I really liked inside the MACH-E GT were the superb Bang & Olufsen sound system that just created such an impressive sound.

Overall I was impressed with the MACH-E GT, I felt that it did resemble a traditional Mustang but at the same time, I found it to be very practical. The power and acceleration it gives you does enable you to attack the corners and generally have a lot of fun with the car.

The MACH-E GT uses the dual-motor all-weel-drive which offers you around 480 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. You can use all of that to get you to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. If you then went for the performance edition this gets it down to 3.5 seconds.

GOOD MORNING TEAM AT THE NFT

GALLERY! TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR MAYFAIR GALLERY…

ALL: The NFT Gallery is a space for collectors and creators alike to purchase, produce and learn about NFTs and digital art. We combine sensational artists and technology to pioneer this exciting new art form. Through opening a physical gallery in Mayfair, the heart of the London art scene, we provide a place for existing and emerging collectors to purchase NFTs accepting payment in both Crypto and Fiat currency.

The NFT Gallery partners with internationally renowned creators of NFTs and digital art, to provide collectors with access to exclusive artworks and collections. Collectors have the ability to purchase NFTs with ease, their proof of purchase is recorded on a blockchain (i.e., commonly Ethereum) and they have the option to purchase a TokenFrame at the time of buying artworks to display NFTs in their own space. Being a female-led space, we champion female participation in the NFT and digital art market.

The NFT Gallery exists to make NFTs more tangible, providing an immersive experience where both existing and emerging collectors can enjoy a curated selection of NFTs in a physical space, as well as online. We want to make NFTs and digital art accessible to everybody, The NFT Gallery is a space to collect, engage and learn.

The NFT Gallery is one of the first physical spaces dedicated to NFTs in Europe, with a 2700 ft gallery on Dover Street in Mayfair,

we are the go-to destination for NFTs and digital art. Set out across two floors, the ground floor exhibition space provides a place for viewing carefully curated NFTs exhibitions of the highest standard. The first floor is dedicated to learning through delivering a series of panel discussions, workshops and events in conjunction with our ed-hub partners and collaborators. Moreover, we provide a meeting point for collectors, enthusiasts, artists and gallerists.

2.) What made you choose your current gallery space on Dover Street and how does it feel to be positioned right in the heart of Mayfair?

Lilien Hornung-Mary: We wanted to disrupt the traditional art market and educate traditional collectors on this new movement in art. Being located on Dover Street gives us a great starting point to pick up traditional art collectors where they left off.

3.) What attracted you to the world of NFTs and digital art and what do you think the future holds for both?

Lynn Rosenberger: I like the possibilities there are with NFTs. The fact that artworks can now move, constantly change (generative art) and have sounds play with it attracted me most. It gives art a completely new range of possibilities.

4.) How do you explain NFTs and digital artwork to those who are unfamiliar with them?

Andrin Pfister: An NFT also known as a non-fungible token is a completely unique digital identifier which cannot be copied, changed or duplicated once its authenticated onto the blockchain. This allows us to interact with digital assets in a brand-new way and allows us to exercise ownership over these digital assets.

We also have a Web3 Glossary on our website that people like to use and learn from: https://www.the-nft-gallery.io/ education-at-the-nft-gallery

5.) You are showcasing many emerging artists each month. What do you look for in an artist or collective to partner with?

Lynn Rosenberger: We look for uniqueness. There are so many artists on the market and it’s important to find artists that have a unique artistic style. If we work with collectives we look at their track records and look at what artists they worked with.

6.) Tell us a little about your current exhibition and the artists involved (the latest to launch)

Lynn Rosenberger: In partnership with VerticalCrypto Art we represent COMPANIONS OF CODE. This group exhibition showcases eleven international generative artists and seeks to examine the relationship between the artist and the code and how the two are inseparable.

On the occasion of COMPANIONS OF CODE, the artists will be presenting new series of long form generative art collections resulting from their collaboration between the code and their human input. This exhibition seeks to extend this notion of companionship between the code and the artist and highlight how the two walk hand in hand in the creation of code-generated artworks.

ARTISTS: Alexander Grasser, Alexis Andre’, Andreas Gysin, Dist Collective, Helena Sarin, Licia He, Lisa Orth, Luca Ionescu, Makio135, Michael Connolly, Orr Kislev.

COMPANIONS OF CODE is curated by Micol Ap, founder and CEO of VerticalCrypto Art.

7.) How can we purchase artwork from The NFT Gallery?

ALL: This can be done through the website or by email. We accept payment in Crypto as well as Fiat (GBP, Euro etc). We always link all the external marketplaces on our website.

8.) What other shows do you have coming up in the gallery?

Lynn Rosenberger: We have a show coming up with Varvara Alay, a well known illustrator, a collaboration with Expanded. art and many other fantastic artists.

9.) What’s next for The NFT Gallery?

ALL: We are expanding to NYC and are looking at other locations in Europe.
