OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE
Tel: 305 673-7925, Fax: 305 673-7065
Dear Residents and Visitors, I am honored to extend a heartfelt welcome to the LGBTQIA+ community in Miami Beach on behalf of the Miami Beach Police Department As your Police Chief, I want to emphasize our commitment to ensuring the safety, well being, and inclusivity of all individuals who call our vibrant city home.
Miami Beach has always been a diverse and accepting community. We celebrate the rich tapestry of identities that contribute to our unique cultural landscape. Our police force is dedicated to upholding the values of equality and respect for everyone, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or background
Your safety is our top priority, and we are actively working to create an environment where everyone feels secure and supported. Our officers undergo comprehensive training to enhance their understanding of LGBTQIA+ issues, fostering empathy and sensitivity. We have a Safe Place rogram and we recently launched a Hate Crime Prevention Program heavily customized for the LGBTQIA+ community. We also have a dedicated LGBTQIA+ liaison team ready to provide support and guidance and are in the process of
adding two more officers to that team. Finally, we encourage open communication and partnerships with community organizations to address any concerns or suggestions you may have.
Should you ever need assistance or have questions, please do not hesitate to contact our dedicated LGBTQIA+ liaison team. They are not just a resource but a pillar of support, here to provide guidance and ensure your concerns are heard. Together, we can continue to make Miami Beach a welcoming and safe haven for all Once again, welcome to Miami Beach. We are excited to build strong connections and create a city where diversity is accepted, celebrated, and embraced We are committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.
From the Chair of the Board
ith another season of Miami Beach Pride upon us, the tone of our 17th year is
decidedly different We’d be remiss to not acknowledge the uncertainty and fear that so many in our community are thinking and feeling We want to take a moment to honor that. Our community has long been a target for bigotry, hatred and intolerance and it certainly seems like we’ve taken steps forward that are now beginning to backtrack.
However, we must hold onto the progress we’ve made and remain resolute in our fight to never go back. The resilience that
our community has displayed decade after decade of hard fought battles to take our place in society has been a source of strength for me during these times and I hope it’s the same for you We will need our strength to resist and apply continued pressure to our lawmakers to stand up for our community and the rights of ALL our brothers and sisters.
Many view Miami Beach Pride as a party, and we’ve done our best to put on a free festival that delights our community and reaffirms our visibility to the world But we also need to remember Pride’s origins as a protest and embody that spirit yet again. Not everyone is an activist and that’s ok, as the simple act of showing up as your full self and reveling in queer joy is an act of protest. Dance in protest. Sing in protest. Hug someone you hold dear in protest
We are proud to continue to keep this festival free and open to our community and allies. It wouldn’t be possible without the generous support from our local leaders, generous sponsors and volunteers who work countless hours behind the scenes If you happen to see them please thank them for all of their hard work.
On behalf of the entire organization, we welcome you to the festival and leave feeling inspired to continue persevering no matter what comes our way. We’re in it together.
Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality said the Cheshire Cat. As a native of England, Alice in Wonderland has captivated my imagination for as long as I can remember This timeless tale also holds a profound significance for the LGBTQIA+ community, serving as a powerful metaphor for self-discovery, transformation, and the courage to embrace one’s authentic identity Much like Alice’s journey through Wonderland, many of us navigate a world that can feel surreal, confusing, or even unwelcoming yet ultimately find strength and liberation in embracing our uniqueness. The stories themes of questioning reality, defying societal norms, and finding a chosen family in unexpected places resonate deeply with those who have had to carve their own paths From the fluidity of identity seen in the Caterpillar’s transformation, to a whimsical world where every character, including life-size playing cards, an anxious rabbit and a grinning cat are accepted for who they are, Alice in Wonderland reminds us of the beauty in difference, and the power of self-acceptance
Aside from the incredible FREE Festival Weekend in Lummus Park and the perennially popular Pride Parade along Ocean Drive there are plenty of auxiliary events and programs for everyone to enjoy. You are invited to step into a world where curiosity leads to discovery, where individuality is celebrated, and where the possibilities for love, community, and pride are truly limitless from March 27 through April 6 in Miami Beach
Highlights include the 3rd edition of Pride’s Family Picnic in Pride Park (3/29 page 47) which is part of a city-wide Family Day event, a Movie Night screening of Layla - a transformative film about the power of drag and the universal quest for selfacceptance presented in partnership with OUTShine and Rooftop Cinema Club South Beach (3/30 page 47); the 5th edition of Queer Art Showcase at the Moxy South Beach featuring 11 LGBTQIA+ artists and an opportunity to thrift for social good (3/31 – page 74-77); two back-to-back Social Justice and Wellness Panels at South Shore Community Center led by Prism and Unity Coalition- (4/2– page 79-80. Don’t forget to publicly cheer on Pride’s Legacy Couples in the Pride Parade, many of which are celebrating 40+ years of love, (4/6 - page 67-68) and stop by the Calming Pavilion in Lummus Park during the Festival Weekend for some creative crafting (page 59) and LGBTQ History (page 64)
Thanks, are in order to the Mayor and Commissioners in Miami Beach and MiamiDade, the team at the City of Miami Beach Tourism & Culture Department and the Miami-Dade Department of Cultural Affairs; Commissioner Eileen Higgins and her dedicated staff in District 5; all our venue partners, community partners, artists and volunteers Together we are positioned to fulfill our mission to keep Miami Beach Pride accessible and FREE to all the communities we serve across South Florida to celebrate a spirit of wonder, authenticity, and joy for eleven exhilarating days

Miami Beach Pride has always been a celebration of inclusivity, equality, and the vibrant diversity that defines our community. Each year, we carefully select a theme that speaks to our collective experiences, aspirations, and the journey we take as individuals and as a community For 2025, we invite you to Embrace Your Journey, a theme inspired by the whimsical and transformative world of Alice in Wonderland.
The LGBTQ+ experience is often a journey of self-discovery, courage, and resilience. Like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole into an unfamiliar yet magical world, many of us navigate a path filled with twists and turns, challenges, and triumphs This year’s theme encourages everyone to honor their personal journey whether you are just beginning to explore your identity, have found your true self, or are supporting loved ones on their path.
By drawing from Alice in Wonderland, we embrace the idea
that life’s unpredictability should not be feared but celebrated The fantastical elements of the story mirror the reality of our own experiences: moments of confusion, unexpected allies, self-discovery, and, ultimately, empowerment.
At Miami Beach Pride 2025, the theme will come to life in vibrant and immersive ways Our festival will feature an Alice in Wonderlandthemed art exhibit, starting with a grand storybook entrance and ending with a reflective mirror a powerful metaphor for self-acceptance. The ‘Rabbit Hole’ activation, will allow attendees to step into Alice’s shoes, symbolizing the journey of stepping into one’s authentic self.
Our entertainment lineup will also reflect this theme, with performances that not only challenge boundaries, but celebrate individuality and transport audiences into a world where imagination reigns and self-expression knows no limits.
In a world where LGBTQ+ rights are still being challenged, embracing who we are is both an act of resistance and a statement of pride. Embrace Your Journey is not just about personal growth it’s about supporting each other, uplifting those still finding their way, and creating a space where everyone is seen, heard, and celebrated
We recognize that each journey is unique, and that’s what makes our community so beautiful. Whether you relate to Alice’s curiosity, the Mad Hatter’s eccentricity, or the Queen of Hearts’ boldness, you belong in this wonderland.
This year, let’s step through the looking glass together and celebrate every twist and turn that has shaped us Because at Miami Beach Pride 2025, no matter where you are on your journey, you are exactly where you’re meant to be.
Can’t wait to see you all in Wonderland!

T. he month of June was chosen for LGBTQIA+ Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred early on the morning of Saturday, 28 June 1969, in response to a police raid on the Stonewall Inn, an LGBTQ bar in New York City. The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender persons and drag queens rioted in anger at police harassment. This riot lasted for days and is the watershed moment for the LGBTQIA+ rights movement and the impetus for organizing pride events
In Florida, a state that has an active hurricane season from June through late October, you can find over 20+ Pride Festivals operating throughout the state from January through November While Florida recently adopted a slate of hateful laws and is fast-tracking additional measures that directly target the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals and basic freedoms it’s clear from Miami Beach Pride’s research endeavors to map the Pride Festival landscape (current as of April 2024) that a small handful of events have permanently gone away, some have taken a leave of absence until 2025, but the majority of Pride events are still intact, and proliferating across the state, to celebrate the past and look into the future, a future with no discrimination, violence, and hate
towards the LGBTQIA+ community
The Pride Festivals/Pride Community Events listed in the Pride in Florida map, have not been measured by the number of attendees or longevity, but are organized by geographic location.
While there is a proliferation of Pride Festivals in South Florida, particularly in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, LGBTQIA+ people are coming together and building communities from Escambia County, located at the westernmost tip of the Panhandle to Nassau County, located at the northernmost tip to Orange County and back down to Monroe
For the LGBTQ+ community, Pride celebrations are an important celebration of unity and progression and a reminder that the fight for legal protection and the right to exist is still ongoing Together as Pride Festivals in Florida, and with the vocal support of advocacy organizations like Equality Florida, the National LGBTQ Task Force, SAVE and localized LGBTQ Chambers of Commerce we can shine a light on the unique challenges we might face so that we can support each other better as a Pride Family Pride should be a safe space for LGBTQIA+ people to celebrate a part of ourselves we may hide at home, at school or at work.
Miami Beach Pride highlights the sibling Pride Festivals in Florida for their 2024 theme “Pride Progress Perseverance :
Pride gives young LGBTQIA+ people and elders in our community, the chance to attend events where they can meet others who are like them, to feel part of the wider LGBTQIA+ community. Pride events also provide tabling opportunities for non-profit arts and social-justice organizations, and business partners aligned with our mission, to create brand awareness of their work in each of our communities.
Pride is not just rainbows and unicorns, it’s also about remembering those who have made this possible through hard work, dedication, and commitment to the cause, and those who have lost their lives to hate-crimes, mental health, substance use, or HIV/AIDS. This is why Pride parades should keep filling the streets, and why we should wave the rainbow flag and cheer and applaud our sponsors, supporters and stakeholders because unity and tolerance can save lives, and change hearts and minds.
Whether you are a resident or visitor to Miami Beach Pride, we thank you for your support, and the support of our Pride Family colleagues regionally, nationally and across the globe. Together in PRIDE.
At least six months before its annual Pride Festival, the staff and board of Miami Beach Pride select a unifying theme to shape the curatorial vision for its April event each season
For the 16th edition of Miami Beach Pride in 2024, we sought a theme that truly captured the essence of Pride a reflection of where we've been and a beacon of hope for the future The result was “Pride Progress Perseverance ” This theme embodied our organization’s ideology, the mission of Pride festivals and marches, and the unwavering resilience of our community
Much has changed not only since Stonewall but even since our last festival in April 2024 Today, as non-profits nationwide face funding challenges especially those dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) it is more crucial than ever to uplift
and support the organizations that continue to champion our community and visibility Corporate sponsorships, government funding, and grants remain vital in ensuring Miami Beach Pride remains a free, inclusive celebration for all in South Florida While public support for the LGBTQ+ community has grown over decades of tireless advocacy, we are now witnessing a troubling shift The pendulum has swung backward, threatening our basic rights Hateful rhetoric has been amplified, and in some spaces, the T and Q of LGBTQ+ are being deliberately erased. But we are still here And we will not be erased This is why we are bringing back the Pride Through Time exhibition
It serves as a powerful reminder that the acceptance we’ve fought for cannot be taken for granted Complacency is not an option we must remain vigilant, engaged, and united
against those who seek to diminish our progress Join us in standing firm Visit the Pride Through Time exhibit at the Calming Pavilion (look up for the fluttering flags) near 12th St during our two-day festival in Lummus Park Share your experience on social media with the hashtag #PrideProgressPerseverance and tag @MiamiBeachPride Philanthropic and Donor support is always encouraged

Together, we celebrate Together, we persevere
The foundation of our organization and the mission of our festival is to allow a safe space to promote self-expression and self-acceptance It is at the core of our values to foster unity, inclusivity, and equality.
The path of our community’s journey has never been easy and has often required forging through sheer will and determination, a spirit that must be kept alive today We must honor how far we've come and celebrate the milestone victories that have been earned in order for us to stand together today
Despite the current legislative climate and pressure our community has faced, this aspect of our theme is a mantra to hold steadfast in our identity and continue to fight for our place
Our Angels Program is a project designed to help lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) students in Miami-Dade County achieve their full academic and leadership potential.
Miami Beach Pride is proud to continue its Angels Program in association with the Point Foundation, the nation’s largest scholarship-granting organization for LGBTQ+ students of merit. The organization empowers students and stimulates positive change through scholarship funding, mentorship, leadership development and community service training.
