Dear Friends, The Adventure Continues. As the team worked on the 2019-2020 season, we reflected on the many adventures to which our 137-year-old historic building has been a witness. Feel the History. Early adventures included an array of performers from boxers to beauties from Booths to Barrymores from movie cowboys to even a horse! The adventures began again in 1998, as the Newberry Opera House was reborn as a Performing Arts Center with artists such as Willie Nelson, Olivia Newton-John, Don Williams, Mary Chapin Carpenter, countless operas, The Jerusalem Symphony, National Symphony of Cuba, Moscow Ballet, Newberry Academic All-Stars, Gubernatorial Debates, local recitals, even a yoga class in the lobby. You can walk the halls and feel the passion of those who have come to see world-class performances for over 100 years. Experience the Intimacy. The Opera House has welcomed everyone with an open curtain to experience the Arts, a “come as you are” greeting. The Opera House is unique not only in the history of the City of Newberry but on the stage of South Carolina. Where else can you experience a show less than 75 feet from a world-class performer, see the finger work on the guitar up close, and maybe even meet the artist at the end of the show in the lobby? Make Memories. Yes, our adventure continues with a new season full of exciting artists and fresh experiences awaiting you. Opening our doors with our enhanced Newberry Arts For All (NAFA) initiative is evidence of our gracious hospitality in action. We will greet you with a smile as you come casual or dressed up. Join our adventure: feel the history, experience the intimacy, and make memories here at the one-of-a-kind place to play, the Newberry Opera House. Welcome home! Molly Fortune, Executive Director
