Hey Red Bulls, The holiday season is just beginning! I hope you are looking forward to this festive time of year! This is also a key time to ramp up your service. There are tons of service opportunities and events just waiting for eager volunteers. Now is the time to reach out the needy in the community and show then that you care. Additionally, it’s already time to start preparing for election season. If you are interested in running for a Lieutenant Governor or District Officer – please be sure to attend Candidate Training Conference. The closest LTG training conference will be taking place on December 6th at Guajome Park Academy in Vista, with a District Officer CTC taking place the next day in Rancho Cucamonga. Please find more information on cnhkeyclub.org > Events. YOU could be the future of our district! Finally, I’d like to thank all of you for making my last Fall Rally experience an amazing one. It was genuinely surreal to see everyone cheering and so spirited in support of our organization. I was touched by the dedication and passion you all have for this organization and the people in it. Look forward to DCON 2015 for an even bigger celebration of our service. Stomping for service, Michael Zhang

RMH Baking By: Zoe Li Mt. Carmel High School

The Ronald McDonald House Baking event is one that our key club volunteers go to every one or two months, and it’s always really fun and a great use of time. On November 2nd, a group of key clubbers went down to the House, which!is right across the street from Rady Childrens’ Hospital. As the person organizing this event, I brought cupcake mixes, baking ingredients, frosting, and LOTS of Halloween candy decorations. As soon as all the volunteers showed up, we washed our hands, put on gloves, and got to work. We spent two hours baking and decorating yummy vanilla and chocolate Halloween-themed cupcakes. By the time we were done, we had filled three huge trays for the families of kids in the hospital. This was an extremely fun and enjoyable event, because everyone, especially the adult volunteers at the House, was very nice and welcoming. This was a great volunteer event, and one that I can’t wait to go to again next month!! !

RMH Holiday Decorating By: Ariel Yue Mt. Carmel High School ! !

Thanksgiving is a holiday about spending time with your family: close, distant, and of course your Kiwanis family! Volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House was a great way to end the Thanksgiving break. Volunteers worked together to spread holiday cheer by embellishing the Ronald McDonald House. Mt. Carmel Key Clubbers were given the task of decorating the Chapel room, Laundry room and pavilion. Key Clubbers set up Christmas trees and garnished them with glittering ornaments and sparkling strands of beads. The Laundry room was turned into a mini village, complete with a Christmas tree forest. After, Key Clubbers continued to spread the holiday spirit by draping trees with large ornaments and baubles. By the time Kiwanis volunteers were finished with decking the halls with boughs of holly, the Ronald McDonald House was transformed into a winter wonderland. Who said that there could not be a white Christmas in San Diego?

Thank You Run By: Brandon Zhang Westview High School

At an unreasonably early hour of 6 am on Thanksgiving Day, Wolverines woke up to volunteer at the Thank You Run in 4s Ranch. Right off the bat we were divided into varying positions; some members were driven to various locations on the run to direct the runners, while others were given the task to open the medal wrappers and hand out medals to all the finishers. There were three runs during the event: a 10K, 5K, and an 8 and under 1K fun run. It was awesome to see all these individuals burning some calories before they gorge themselves with 20 pound turkeys later that day. The best part of the event was when we saw the coordinator’s son, dressed up in a Turkey suit, leading the little kids along the 1K fun run path. Throwback to Bunny Suit Wayne? !
