What’s Stompin’, Redbulls?

It’s February! Of course, you all know what that means–Valentine’s Day! And of course, V-Day means spreading the love. Let’s remember to spread love and kindness to our communities this coming Valentine’s Day.

February is always a bittersweet month. Along with our Sweethearts Picnic, we will slowly start to wrap up our term. Elections will come and go, and so will will replace the old, and soon enough, we will start fresh.

But let’s remember that we still have two vital months left of this term. Despite the changes, I believe we Redbulls can really get going in this last quarter. We’re known for charging to the finish line, so let’s do exactly that!

(Also congrats to LTG-Elect Anthony wait to see what you have in store for D37S :)

One of the service projects I did during the month of December was volunteering at the annual San Diego Santa Run that had over 4,000 Santas running. While I was volunteering, I helped with set up and clean up. But majority of the time was spent being a guider for those running and guarding the crosswalks so no pedestrians would stop the flow of the runners. It felt awesome being able to help the event run smoothly and decrease the stress of those in charge. It was also nice to contribute to putting happy smiles on all those runners and help bring the community together. I loved volunteering with San Diego Running Co and can't wait to do it again next year.

Ice Skating DCM

Run

During the event, we socialized together during ice skating. With the ice skating, we were able to befriend other key clubbers at the social. The ice skating made it easier to befriend key clubbers from other divisions because most of us have never ice skated before so we had a common ground to talk about. I learned about how fast and how diligent each of our neighboring school's key club's are in garnering service hours. It showed me how much the key club impacts our community for the better !

One exciting event me and my friends participated in was the Holiday with Heroes event hosted by our very own, Poway Kiwanis. Our club as well as CCHS has dedicated a lot of time to prepare for this event by making a total of 150 goodie bags and I could not be more proud that our efforts contributed to the impact of the event. I met many sweet Kiwanians at the grilling station (which I was responsible for running hot dogs) and had a great time with them. The happiness and excitement of those 150 children I saw that day was unforgettable.

Santa Holiday with Heroes

Charity House

With the upcoming holiday season, we were given the opportunity to help decorate the Ronald McDonald Charity House along with our Kiwanis! We helped decorate each door in the building with reefs, put up lights on the Christmas trees, decorate the trees with ornaments, and more. Donuts were provided to all of the volunteers by our lovely Kiwanis as well as lunch was provided by the charity house cafeteria. It was so fun decorating the building and we hope it will bring Christmas cheer to all who visit the charity house!

In November, our club collaborated with our school’s Fight Against Hunger Club to hold a schoolwide food drive. The food drive was also a competition between all of the 2nd period classes; the class that collected the most food would win a donut party. On the final day, we collected the food from all of the classrooms and sorted them so that the food was ready to be sent to families in need. The food drive was overall very successful and we were able to collect over 900 items of food!

At our club meeting in December, our members volunteered through Color A Smile, a nonprofit organization that distributes cheerful colorings and drawings to Senior citizens, troops overseas, and anyone in need of a smile. We spent our whole lunch time coloring a variety of different coloring pages and had fun doing it! We let this volunteering opportunity last for the rest of the month and at the end of the month, we collected everyone’s coloring pages and mailed them to Color A Smile to get them distributed.

During December, me and other fellow poway key club members helped out at the annual Kiwanis Christmas party. We helped wrap books and make goodie bags that would be donated to special needs kids as well other underserved kids. I'm so lucky to have been a part of this sweet project and I hope it created a smile on those children's faces! The party portion was super fun, we got to eat delicious pizza and treats while connecting with the kiwanians and SLP members around us. I can't wait to participate in the event again next Christmas!
