We have a big event coming up everyone… yes it’s that time of year for Fall Rally! I’m sure that all of y’all who are going are going to have an absolute blast. Six flags better be ready for us :)
Besides the Fall Rally and the Spirit Session to prep for it, the only other thing we have this month is our monthly DCM. Stay on the lookout if we have more events, and always stay active on your volunteer activities!

Are you ready for Fall Rally South? I know I sure am! FRS is always the weekend after my finals week, so I can go with a free conscience and scream my heart out at the rally sessions. Speaking of Fall Rally, how many of you guys have finished your spirit sticks? I’ve been procrastinating so I just went and got my PVC pipe the other day. If you, like me, just started your spirit stick, feel free to bring them to Spirit Session 2 on Nov 11 and make your finishing touches at Hilltop Park!
Other than that, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and eat lots of turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce–whatever your favorite Thanksgiving feast is. Happy reading (and feasting!) Redbulls!
This event consisted mostly of folding and organizing clothes and supplies. The shop is adorably decorated and welcoming as soon as you walk in. Their mission is to help people who struggle with HIV/AIDS, providing laundry services for those that are too ill to do it themselves. Because there are so many donations, most of the time we worked to sort the new clothes onto the racks. We were able to help make sections for different styles of clothes such as athletic wear and swim wear. The workers taught us how to make the store more appealing so that customers can find their style without having to sort through all the items themselves. It was inspiring to watch a community so dedicated to actively doing good.
I ran zorb balls with Olivia. I was nervous before I did it. But It turned out to be really fun. Our job was to get the kids in and out of the zorb balls. We also had to keep the line for the game in the right direction. I met some really cool new people. I also got to spend time with my friends. At one point the rubber arc around the racetrack fell but we got it to go back up. The whole hour and forty five minutes went by so quickly. Afterwards I was really glad I did it. I would definitely volunteer at the poway rodeo again next year!
The RTC was a great way to learn more about key club and ways I can improve myself as a key club member and leader. By attending the different classes, I was able to learn about different ways I can strengthen my community and key club spirit. I was able to learn about ways to earn various awards for key club and learn how to be a better leader.
I participated in the I Love A Clean San Diego Watershed Cleanup this morning. We walked three streets picking up trash on the floor. There were lots of bottle caps, straws, and bits of paper. I actually got to use one of the squeezer picker uppers which was a lot of fun. My mom even decided to join me instead of going back home. We got to talk about journalism and college. I was a little out of my comfort zone when I got there, but I felt a lot better once we started. It was hot, but I actually had a really fun time. I hope I can do it again this school year.
For volunteering today, my friends and I picked up trash near a bike trail. We found many expected items such as cigarette butts, broken plastics, and empty cans and bottles. Something we didn't expect was a shoe. In fact, 2 of them. Darlene found the random shoes that were in terrible condition. We figured it must've stayed there for a while, but also wondered how two different people could’ve lost their shows on a bike trail! We also received thank you’s from bikers that appreciated our efforts in keeping the space clean. The experience was fun and engaging, so I plan on volunteering again.
On September 24, Los Rancheros Kiwanis held a clothing drive, collecting items that would be given to homeless veterans and military families in need in North County. At the clothing drive, a group of Key Club volunteers, our local boy scouts, girl scouts, and I helped organize the bags of clothing donations into women's, men's, and children's clothing, as well as by the type of clothing. At the event, we volunteers were also lucky to be treated with donuts from our Kiwanis members.
The Free Rice service project during service week was very simple and easy to complete. I remember completing a project like this before, and I personally enjoyed the little quizzes the website gives me. Projects as simple as these still make me feel a part of Key Club and I feel that I am contributing the best I can. My favorite quizzes to take are the language or geography quizzes, because some of it is guess and choose and it feels like a fun trivia game rather than a service project. It helps me take my mind off of the time I have to reach to get credit, and it allows me to have fun while helping others/organizations.
I decided to participate in a water station at the beach this past weekend! I had a lot of fun participating in this event because not only was I able to help others, but I also got to do it in the beautiful scenery. I love the beach because it is very comforting, and getting the opportunity to give the runners who ran past us cups of water, it only increased my satisfaction. I’m so glad I got to help the runners in need of quenching their thirst, and I cannot wait for more opportunities like this!
