Happy new year everyone, its time of year again where we start to make unrealistic goals that we’ll never keep! In all seriousness just set a few new things you want to try for 2023, and hopefully this year will be better than before :) Thank you to everyone who came to our December DCM ice skating! We have a January DCM as usual this month, and there are also a lot of great hour activities such as My Melody’s Math and Pompompourin’s Pace, so make sure to go to @d37sredbulls to see the links to all of them!

Hi Redbulls! message from your DIVISION NEWS EDITOR

message from your LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR

What’s Stompin’, Redbulls?

Happy New Year! I hope you’re writing down your New Year’s Resolutions--I know I definitely am! Hopefully, I can keep a few this year (I always forget about them in February).

As a senior, I’m so glad to be done with my college applications. I’m now writing my scholarship applications, which is something all Key Clubbers should check out through the CNH Children’s Fund.

I’m so excited for our January DCM. This movie night’s gonna be a lot of fun! Remember to dress warm, because even though it’s indoors, there’s a large probability it’ll be cold (cold by San Diego standards, at least.

I hope you all had a great start of 2023, Redbulls! Happy reading!

I went to the beach cleanup and picked up trash with Kylie, Sydney, and Raisa. to start, we grabbed our gloves and our bags and walked up the hill to meet up with Sydney and Raisa. there were a lot of small items and big items, especially crazy items I would have never expected to be there. for instance, some crazy encounters, were Valentine’s Day rugs, pills, racquets, engines, and more. Additionally, we walked around, picking up trash in the water with our club president Jerry. Lastly, we took a group photo in front of all the trash we picked up. In total, we had about 15 bags.

This month our club helped out a festival at Tierra Bonita Elementary School. We worked with many other high schoolers and PTA adults as well as a few Elementary students. It was very fun being able to decorate the field with festive items while getting to know other people. I know they were really in need of volunteers so I'm glad that I got to help them out in a little way. Although I didn't stay for the actual event, I hope all of our work paid off to create a successful turn out!

I helped run concessions and other stations at the WV band tournament. Before people arrived, I carried food to the field from concessions and carried back extra supplies. I also helped distribute food inside concessions to prepare. Once people began arriving, I checked wristbands at the door and directed people to where they needed to be throughout the night. Intermittently, when I was needed inside of concessions, I distributed food and collected money. I also helped make sure concessions ran smoothly by keeping the space organized.

DNHS: Zooniverse

I participated in the Zooniverse: Snapshot Karoo event. They give you a picture or short video taken at a protected habitat somewhere from Tanzania to South Africa, and then you identify all the species of animals in the picture. It was a fun event; almost like a puzzle trying to figure out then confirm what species each animal was. It was also nice knowing I was helping our global ecosystem and wildlife, especially since I know how dire the issue of climate change is right now.

This month in key club, I made cards for seniors. DOROT is a program that provides and fosters healthy connections for older adults. This activity was meaningful and I felt like I was helping DOROT’s mission to create connections and benefit senior citizens. I had a great time making the cards and the arts-and-crafts part was calming and fun. I would definitely do this event again, and I hope I have the opportunity to participate in similar ones.

On New Year's Eve, various Key Club divisions came together and volunteered at the Rose Bowl Parade. There was a large supply of different jobs given to us when we arrived. Some jobs included transporting buckets of flowers across the venue or helping place flowers onto the floats. My personal favorite job was making the flower pins that were used to decorate the floats. Although it was a little tiring because we had to wake up early, I still enjoyed my time regardless.

One of the service projects I did during the month of December was volunteering at the annual San Diego Santa Run that had over 4,000 Santas running. While I was volunteering, I helped with set up and clean up. But majority of the time was spent being a guider for those running and guarding the crosswalks so no pedestrians would stop the flow of the runners. It felt awesome being able to help the event run smoothly and decrease the stress of those in charge. It was also nice to contribute to putting happy smiles on all those runners and help bring the community together. I loved volunteering with San Diego Running Co and can't wait to do it again next year.
