message from your DIVISION NEWS EDITOR What’s up, Red Bulls! Happy New Year! I cannot believe that it is 2021 already. 2020 flew by and although it was filled with uncertainty, I believe I learned a great amount from it. If you guys set some New Year’s resolutions for 2021, I hope you are all keeping up with them! One of my main resolutions this year is to reduce my screen time on my phone and laptop. To be honest, that goal has been difficult to keep but that’s okay; I still have the rest of the year to fix it. I hope you are all staying safe during this time! I know the holiday season just passed and I am definitely feeling the blues. But, I cannot wait for the weather to get warm again. Enjoy this edition of the RED BULLetin to celebrate the new year!

message from your LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR What’s Stompin’ Red Bulls! I hope everyone is enjoying this holiday season and happy new years! 2021 will be our year, I feel it in my gut! All of you have been working so hard this term to help us accomplish our goals and I can’t thank you all enough. Despite the pandemic, we have exceeded our expectations. Even with only having eight schools in our division, you all have gone above and beyond with your great dedication and work ethic. I hope all of you enjoyed New Years and lets make the most of 2021! I love you all Redbulls <3

SERVICE recap

Distributed Proofreading Emery Kerkhove, Westview

“I looked at the projects that were currently available and picked a beginner level project. There were only three available and only one of them was in English, so I chose that project and read over the basic instructions it provided. I started proofreading that project but because it was at a beginner level, it stopped me after I had proofread 15 pages so I moved onto a different, much longer project. I worked on this project until I hit the time cap (three hours) and I ended up proofreading around 85 total pages of text.”

“In honor of Thanksgiving, we had a service project where we made our own hand turkeys! Decorating the turkeys was super fun and easy, especially when doing it with friends. Not only that, I was able to think back on what I have been grateful for throughout the year. With the hand turkeys everyone made, they were hung up in some of the buildings at school to show our festive spirit. It was definitely an enjoyable experience to participate in!”

Cards for Kids Aiyana Nambiar, CCA

“The cards we created had positive messages and we had complete creative freedom. I ended up looking online for fun puns to write on my cards. I tried to make them as colorful and crazy as possible because I love working with markers and colored pencils. These cards were given to sick and recovering patients across the US and overseas through Cards for Kidz which just made the project even more special. Each card included a short message or funny pun and I decorated them with lots of color. love events like these and I hope to see many more like them in the future.”

“I didn't really know what "sign-making" meant but it was the day that when San Diego didn't have power, so I figured why not. Apparently it was a Kiwanis meeting, and it was interesting to see and listen in on their meeting in person. The signs were for the Holiday with Hero drive though, and about 5 other people showed up, which I didn't expect. We got it done pretty fast, and it was nice seeing our advisor, Liz.”

CARE PACKAGES

Abby Lee Westview

“I arrived at Hilltop Park at 1 PM with my items and materials. I brought a blanket and art supplies in order to decorate. I wrote encouraging and positive messages on the bags, such as “Take care!” and “Have a good day!” It was a great way to get community service hours while getting fresh air outside. Since we chose to do them as a group, we made sure to stay socially distanced and wore masks due to the pandemic.”

“It is finally the holiday season! This month, we decided to do something fitting for the theme and made “care packages,” bags of supplies to help families and others in need. Various things were donated, from food products like canned Thanksgiving food to essentials, like hand sanitizer and masks. Others also made cards and letters to go with the packages. Especially during the pandemic, with all the people falling on hard times, this event was perfect for helping our community.”

CARE PACKAGES

Andrew Meng Del Norte

“I had a lot of fun participating in the Care Packages event. I wanted to participate in it mainly because it is the giving season, and giving to those in need is very important now. In this event, I tried to do this, giving face masks to stay safe and toiletries to be clean and healthy. I also decorated it with printed leaves and a happy thanksgiving note to make them feel happier during this season. During this event, I tried to express my giving spirit as best as I could. When I finished it, I felt fulfilled with what I had done, and thoroughly enjoyed all parts of the event.

We donated over 200 care packages to Ronald McDonald charities. Good work, Red Bulls! 9 | Service Recap
