message from your DIVISION NEWS EDITOR What’s up, Red Bulls! I can’t believe it’s already April and the end of our

2020-2021 term! To my Key Club seniors, I hope this month of highly anticipated college decisions worked out in your favor. As we embark on this exciting yet scary next chapter of our lives, we all share our passion and fondness for Key Club. Whether you just joined Key Club or have been a part of the organization since your freshman year, we all have made an impact one way or another. I based this issue of the RED BULLETIN to my favorite season: spring! I loved including the pastel colors, flowers, and other details. Hopefully you enjoy reading this issue as much as I enjoyed creating it. As my last newsletters, I am really proud of how this one turned out.

message from your LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR What’s Stompin’ Red Bulls! I can’t believe this is the last time I’ll be writing a letter in the famous Angie Vo’s newsletters. I’m so proud of what our division has accomplished this term despite the pandemic and all of the hardships we had to face. We achieved new heights that our division hasn’t seen in many terms and I couldn’t have done it without all of you. To my seniors, I hope you had good results on your college acceptances and even if it wasn’t what you expected I know you’ll do great things. The future holds great things for you. Although the term might be over, I hope to still see all of you at our banquet! I love you Redbulls and can’t wait to see what you do next term!

“To volunteer at the food bank, we arrived 10 minutes early and sat on the benches outside to await the managers for instructions. After we waited for around 15 minutes for people to arrive, the administrator came in and showed us the work we needed to do. My friend and I were put in charge of the food line, distributing food and drinks into bags. Once this was finished, there were many bags and boxes all finished. It was tiring work, but satisfying in its own way, Food Bank as we did quite a lot for the community. Zhixin Zhao, Westview It was a good experience. ” “I really enjoyed the idea of communicating with people from different, and random areas of the world. I wrote about my interests, likes and dislikes, and finished the letter off with some encouragement for the orphan receiving my letter. I even wrote some letters in different languages through a translating app, and hoped that whoever received those letters enjoyed the effort. I am glad to have participated in the letters Letters to Orphans to orphans, and I am hopefully for any Camila Abramowitz, Cathedral kind of reply.”

Paper Bridges Ishaa Giridhar, RB

“The Paper Bridges Letters to Orphans Project was definitely one of the more fun virtual projects I’ve done this year! Through the organization, you were able to write letters to orphans, and Paper Bridges would send them around the world.. These little encouraging friendly letters could be written in many different languages. I loved how just spending some time reaching out by writing a letter could have such an impact on someone’s life and brighten their days a little bit!”

“I participated in our Smithsonian Transcription Event, where we help type out old, handwritten or printed documents that the Smithsonian has. It was a very cool experience, since some of the documents are over a century old. It also felt good being able to serve our community, even while we're still virtual. The Smithsonian has it so that multiple people have to review the transcribed document before it's marked as complete, and it was nice collaborating with others who enjoy volunteering and serving our community.”

Color A Smile Rachel Tran, Torrey Pines

“One of our projects this month was the Color A Smile project, which is a nonprofit organization that delivers drawings to seniors and troops and “anyone in need of a smile”. The project was super accessible considering the website has hundreds of different coloring page templates to choose from. [I] felt good knowing that my drawings would be given to someone in need of some color in their own lives. In knowing that these drawings might bring a smile to someone else, I also was brought happiness through that. I would definitely do this project again knowing how rewarding it was to give back through coloring. “

“This month CCA Key Clubbers took part in the service project, Cards for Kindness. Each card that was made was colorful, decorative and had such a sweet and special message. The cards that were made were donated to local hospitals, retirement homes, Crisis centers, and other organizations. The goal through this project was to make the most heartwarming cards, and I truly believe that we accomplished our goal. It was so fun seeing everyone’s cards since they were all different and super unique.”

Cards for Kindness Aiyana Nambiar, CCA

“In time for Valentine’s Day, I made Valentine boxes for the elderly at a retirement home in South Carolina. Especially during the pandemic, the older generation is at even greater risk and isolation. I had so much fun getting out old bags and boxes from birthdays years past and filling them with quotes, cards, and nice messages. I hope that these care packages will make the residents at Valentine’s Boxes Providence Care feel more Eleanor Jung, Mt. Carmel connected in isolation!” “I got together with all of my fellow key clubs at Cathedral to decorate socks for Rady’s Children’s Hospital. I had the chance to meet with many new key clubbers, and interact with people on zoom for that day. Decorating the socks was the best part, and exciting to use my creative skills for kids who can benefit from the socks. I got to experiment with puffy paint, which eventually landed on the desks and on my clothes. As a whole group we shared our designs, and were able to connect for the benefit of Rady’s Children’s Hospital.”
