A Message From Your News Editor Hey Redbulls! In this month's edition of the Redbull Reader, you will find the usual club snapshots and service spotlights. However, you may notice that a few pages - namely the point counts and division goals progress pages - are looking a little bare. This is because the new term has started, and the new DLT is currently updating the points system. It has been a pleasure to make newsletters for you in the past term, and I am sad to say that this is the last one from me. Treat your next Division News Editor nicely (they have a lot of work on their plates), and I wish everyone a wonderful next term!

Best wishes,

Angela Chen

SERVICE SPOTLIGHT

The San Diego Food Bank is alwa volunteer! My last experience ther worked a Saturday afternoon ware the event with fellow key club mem meeting a sophomore from my ho We were both assigned to sort the families. While sorting food, I mad around me and had quite a bit of f about finding bugs in the peaches to me the last time I sorted peach showed up this time. I love volunte because it always reminds me jus contributions I make through Key the event, I felt an overwhelming s helped feed families all over San

Written by Katie Bogue I had the opportunity to go to the Ugly Dog Contest Event with fellow members of Key Club. This was a fun experience that allowed me to meet new people in this organization and help our Kiwanis community. At 9:00 in the morning to 2:00 in the afternoon, we helped set up different events for the crew, worked at the winning contestants stand, and cheered on our all of the amazing dogs. As a student of Torrey Pines, I could help some of the younger owners and their dogs to have the easiest possible competition set up, and I met other Kiwanis members within our district. It was a fun way to interact with other community service groups and new people besides our own in order to help promote successful community service. I would definitely reccommend this to anyone in Key Club because it’s a great way to be involved in our community while supporting those around you. I am so glad that I was able to help with this event since it is a very fun experience that involved helping people and their furry friends.

ays a wonderful place to re was no exception. I ehouse shift. I did not go to mbers but ended up ome club while volunteering. e peaches with two other de conversation with those fun. I joked a few times s, something that happened es. Luckily, no bugs eering at the food bank st how important the Club truly are. When I left sense of pride. I had just Diego!

On March 23 2019, I went to the Food Bank to help them out with sorting food for the less fortunate. I quickly learned how much food is taken for granted. It started with apples. There were tons of apples at the warehouse which had not sold in grocery stores because they were either deformed or had imperfections. The kicker was that these apples were completely edible but people did not buy them because they had imperfections. So, we sorted the ones that could be given to the homeless from the ones that were completely destroyed. This produced over 100 pounds of apples that were going to go into the waste but were completely edible. We loaded these apples into a truck and off they went to another warehouse where they would be packed and delivered to the homeless. We did the same with other fruits and vegetables like pears, carrots, etc. This event really opened my eye to how many people take the simple necessity of food for granted. There was so much food that didn’t sell but was able to be reused and redistributed to those who are less fortunate. This event taught me to appreciate the food that I am given and to volunteer more so that more people can get the necessity of food.
