TULONG-DUNONG HANDOUTS

TULONG-DUNONG History THE IDEA:

The Naga City Youth Opportunity School (NACIYOS) was established wherein Fr. James O’Brien, SJ was part of the Board of Directors. He gave the idea that his Ateneo de Naga College students to train the students in NACIYOS. Its good effect to both the students and Ateneans started the idea of Ateneans as tutors to the least fortunate.

THE GROWTH: After 2 years, from simply being a tutoring program, the T.D. scholarship arose. Scholarships from Ateneo de Manila High School, St. Scholastica's Marikina and Miriam College High School are handed out to the less fortunate who they saw potential in and had passed the entrance exams. Aside from tuition, they offer different kinds of assistance, may it be financial or formation. Some of those that have experienced this program came back to the Ateneo as teachers or tutors.

History

THE ROOT: When transferred to the Ateneo de Manila High School, Fr. O’Brien noticed the same issue. Children couldn't afford education. As a solution, a pilot class was done. Ateneans would teach various subjects to these kids in the Barangka Elementary School where they found various problems that were later on resolved. By 1976-1977, the Tulong-Dunong Program reached out to more schools.

THE FRUIT: Tulong-Dunonng has greatly grown. Now there are around 25 scholarship grants and the program has spread to even more schools. With the influence of T.D, multiple organizations with a similar purpose have been established since then.

Philosophy TULONG-DUNONG

Tulong-Dunong is seen as the culminating activity for each and every Atenean's formation. It is the opportunity to live out the ideals rooted on St. Ignatius, fulfilling the "love shown in deeds not just words".

Tulong-Dunong allows the students to encounter poverty face-to-face, becoming more real and allowing them to apply what they have learned in the classroom deepening their understanding,

Spirituality TULONG-DUNONG

As a whole, Tulong-Dunong lives out God's work in what we do. But, more than that, it leads the reflection of the students as to where they are in God's plan, as well as how they can be a person for-and-with-others as a deeper search for God in their daily lives. They genuinely make an effort to help the kids as they let them experience God's love, then feeling fulfilled and finding their true self with God.

TOP QUALITIES AS A TUTOR: I believe that as a tutor one of my top qualities are making the students feel comfortable and making the session a bit fun. I think that this is because I had previous encounters with kids and in the same situation so I kind of have an idea on what to do. Additionally, I think that because I am still a kid at heart, as a tutor, I try my best to relate to them.

TALENTS: Of course, I was able to share my talent in Math but other than that, I was also able to share my artistic side. This was another side of me that I was able to show through our games. When we played Skrobbl.io, we were able to showcase our drawing talent. I also started singing at times, which is another "talent" even if I'm not good hehe.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE WHICH SUBJECT TO TEACH? I chose Math because there has always been that passion for math in me. It is something that interests me and it is what I want to pursue in the future. I feel like I have a pretty good background in Math so I wouldn’t have a hard time teaching these well. I also wanted to have a refresher on the past lessons I had.

FAVORITES:

TOP QUALITIES AS A TUTOR: I believe that one of my best qualities as a tutor is making the lesson as simple to understand as possible, because I don't want the students to leave the session puzzled about something. Furthermore, I give students the option of selecting whatever lesson they want elaboration. As a result, I do my best to study and prepare for the session.

TALENTS: Drawing is one of my skills, which I demonstrated to the TD kids through our Skribbl and Jamboard activities. Another is my capacity to adapt to the demands of being a tutor, and in this manner, I was able to impart my knowledge of the English language through the art of teaching.

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE WHICH SUBJECT TO TEACH? I picked English over Math because I have always been fascinated by the topic. With this in mind, I am comfortable volunteering as an English tutor since I am not only enthusiastic about the subject, but I also want to revisit the teachings I learned in grade 6, except this time I will be the one teaching it. Finally, I reasoned that, given the aforementioned considerations, I would have an easier time learning and giving the lectures.

DESCRIBE: When it comes to the lessons, replying to our emails, and Google Calendar invites, Dennise is by far the most engaged of the TD kids. During the five sessions we had, she was only absent once because of sickness which she provided an excuse for.

WHAT ARE THEY GOOD AT? Dennise did really well in English and even turned in her assignment on time, which is always appreciated after several reminders. She was also the only TD kid who would unmute her microphone and spoke to us when we asked.

HOW MUCH PROGRESS DID THEY MAKE? We saw Dennise's ability to learn quickly during the five sessions. Even when she isn't sure what to say, she does her hardest to join and respond via chat or unmuting her microphone. Overall, she was attentive and engaged in the classes, which we greatly enjoyed.

DESCRIBE: Elyza, like Dennise, was one of the most participative kids. She was present most of the times and she always did her best.

WHAT ARE THEY GOOD AT?

Like the others, Elyza was better in English than in Math, but she still responded to the drills in both subjects. In our Skribbl.io activities, it can be seen that she is also good with drawing.

HOW MUCH PROGRESS DID THEY MAKE? After the five session we had, we can say that she maded a lot of progress as well. We feel that she became more comfortable with us and that she is equipped to move forward.

DESCRIBE: Peter is a very jolly and fun kid. He was an active kid in class and he easily understood the lesson.

WHAT ARE THEY GOOD AT? Generally, he is good with easily understanding the lesson since most of the time, his answers are correct. He is also good with interacting and engaging with the tutors to build a relationship and make the experience more fun. There was one time that when we asked him to type "KFC", he instead sent a link to the KFC logo which was cute.

HOW MUCH PROGRESS DID THEY MAKE? He made quite a lot of progress. In the first session we had with him, he wasn't really responding quickly but in the following sessions he already was. He became more participative and he also absorbed the lesson really well and even passed his assignments. Overall, the progress he has made is mainly focused on how he became more participative through the sessions.

DESCRIBE: Jebie was responsive through chat, but we didn't get the chance to see him since he couldn't turn on his camera. He also only attended twice, so we really didn't get the chance to get to know him. Similar to Jebie, Nadine only attended once and we didn't get to know her well or see her but she was also participating through chat.

WHAT ARE THEY GOOD AT?

As far as we can tell, both Jebie & Nadine were good at interacting with the tutors. They would respond to us and even tried to answer the problems we gave during discussions even if they were incorrect previously or the answer they gave was incorrect.

HOW MUCH PROGRESS DID THEY MAKE? For both Jebie & Nadine, we can't really determine the progress they have made since we only got to meet them once or twice where it was the last few sessions. However, we could say that the fact that they made an effort to be present is progress enough. Their attendance to the sessions could be the start & small progress that they have made for themselves and their growth.

The session went very well. It started with them entering the meet while I was playing the song: “The Family Madrigal” from Encanto. The two girls present entered immediately but we waited a while longer and hoped that the other kids would join. After the song ended, we started the session with a quick introduction, following the prompts on the slides and the plan. I did the introduction first, then Elyssa followed, and lastly, Dennise. Elyza got disconnected so she was unable to do the introduction. When she got back, we proceeded with the rundown of what would happen. I mentioned to them that we will be teaching them and even presented the lessons. With that, I asked them which lessons they wanted to prioritize and Dennise said the English lesson of “Presenting a coherent, comprehensive report on differing viewpoints of an issue”. Elyssa then decided to take this lesson next week. Additionally, they decided to study English in the first half then proceed to Math for the second half in the upcoming sessions. After that,

Aside from the session being really fun which makes the next weeks to come exciting, I realized that these kids really wanted to learn. I saw this when they get disconnected but they kept on coming back to the room. They were also excited for the next sessions and were willing to learn.

I think that we should encourage them more to turn on their cameras and unmute so that we can communicate more. I think that I should also give time for Elyssa to speak.

I saw God as my guide in this session. I wasn’t really able to prepare a script for this session but I think the fact that I was able to do somewhat well, He guided me through it. Moreover, I think God was present through my partner, Elyssa. As we went on with the games, it slipped my mind that we were having connection problems but she reminded me of this so that we could switch to our alternate method. I think this way, God put me back on track through Elyssa.

For the next sessions, I think God is telling me to be a more patient tutor. I think He wants me to wait more on the kids’ response with things since they might have to think first. I think God is also asking me to be more aware of what I am doing and the issues we are facing. Furthermore, I think that he is calling me to enjoy as we teach the kids and be more creative in engaging with them.

we proceeded to play games. Sadly, we all had internet connection problems so we decided on using the Jamboard instead and let the kids guess. We also played Bring me after where they finally turned on their cameras and we got to see them. For Bring me, Dennise won. However, we had to cut it short since I thought we were running out of time. After playing we just had a few reminders and ended up with some spare time which we used to talk to them more. Here we learned that Dennise had difficulties with all of the Math lessons while Elyza had difficulties with English. We ended the session with a prayer and we also took a photo. Throughout the session, they tried their best to keep their cameras on and make use of the chat box. They also do respond, but it takes some time and may be due to internet problems. The only issue we had were the kids who didn’t attend, which, according to them, was normal as these kids rarely attend, and internet problems.

Our first session with the TD kids went quite well despite the interruptions. Although they were shy due to the fact that this is our first encounter, they did their best to answer our queries. The lesson began with an opening prayer, which was followed by an introduction and a game. Unfortunately, only two of the kids were present and there were a lot of instances that they got disconnected because of the poor internet connection. We were still able to deliver and have a fun encounter after being patient with their replies in the chat box just to check if they can see the presentation, waiting for them to reconnect, and resorting to jamboard instead of the website for the first game. Considering all these, we had a good time and I’m sure we all tried our best to connect to each other. We showed the list of lessons to be discussed both in English and Math then asked them which lesson they preferred to study first. Once they chose English first for every session and picked the lesson they wanted, we assured them that we'll do everything we can to make the teachings simpler to grasp. Finally, we concluded with a closing prayer and a short thank you speech.

I've realized how challenging, exhausting, and exhilarating it is to pursue teaching especially given the current online setup. I'll confess that I was worried and tense before the lesson, but it was incredible to connect, interact, and have fun with them as the class went. It was a real eyeopener for me to see what every instructor and tutor goes through: the preparation, planning, and execution, as well as other personal duties. The task is difficult to do, but nothing will stand in your way if you are dedicated, driven, and enthusiastic about your work. With God's aid and direction, Mich and I were able to push through and learn that we can do things we never thought possible as long as we believe and continue. In tough circumstances, having faith helped me to find calm and confidence in God's presence. I now believe that I’m capable of teaching the TD kids and I am eager to assist students in grasping and reflecting on their newfound knowledge.

To increase general communication and dialogue, I feel that being more understanding, patient, and easygoing should be demonstrated. Being more prepared, calmer, and more confident in myself would all help me become a better tutor. I'll first rehearse what I'm going to say and teach, and I'll make sure I'm extremely familiar with the lesson I'm about to deliver. I am confident that I should connect with the kids more and tell them that they should not be hesitant to express their problems or issues since we would do everything we can to assist them. I believe God is calling me to be a confident, competent teacher who is sympathetic and eager to assist and understand each student's circumstance. I'll do everything I can to make the lessons more understandable for them and to make the session more pleasurable especially after learning that they have trouble with some of the lessons. I'll urge them to be more engaged and eager to learn in order to have a stimulating debate. Hopefully, we will have a lot more interesting and meaningful presentations.

For this session, it was quite chaotic. First, we forgot to send calendar invites to the students, so we had to do that a few minutes before the actual session. We waited quite a while, and even thought that no one would attend so we were panicking on what to do. Gladly, after 15 minutes a new face came and joined us, Peter. We were having technical difficulties but we were able to push through. Although we hoped to see more kids, the others didn’t join us anymore so we decided to start the lesson. As promised, Elyssa started with English, teaching the lesson that Elyza and Dennise requested even if they weren’t there. She ended later than expected because we also started late. Peter was also not so responsive, so I also tried to support Elyssa and participate. After her lesson, I started teaching Math. We started with a game but unfortunately, Peter was not responding so I played the game and explained it to them. I also decided to do this because of the time constraint. I continued the lesson and went through it really quickly. I

Throughout the session, I was kind of stressed because of the time and early on we thought that no one would join. With that, I realized it is everything to be prepared and to inform students ahead of time. We had a lot of errors this session which I think is caused by our and my lack of preparation, from sending the Google calendar invite to thoroughly going over the lesson plan.

First, I will try to go over the lesson plan ahead of time so that I can discuss it with the kids clearly, and check if the necessary things that need to be done prior to the session are done. Second, I will try to engage with the kids more and not rush the session so much. Lastly, I should be more aware of the time so that we can start and finish on time, as well as remind Elyssa of the time she has left.

The stress subsided when Peter entered. Through Peter I saw God, with him entering the call God reminded me that all will work out in time. At the same time, God allowed this session to be possible through Peter.

All in all, I think God is asking me to be a more prepared tutor in the upcoming sessions. I think this includes reminding Elyssa and myself of the necessary things we need to do beforehand in which He is calling me to be a tutor who communicates and connects with her partner. I think that He is also calling me to be a tutor that creates and values a good relationship with the kids and her partner.

would ask Peter from time to time if I was going too fast yet there was no response so I just proceeded. During my time, they would disconnect so we would stop. Eventually, while Peter was not on the call, we discussed that maybe it would be possible to send them the recordings for them to review, especially for those absent. When Peter reconnected, I continued with the lesson. Since we were running out of time, my pacing was quick and I couldn’t always ask if they could understand. Additionally, at some point, I messed up with the explanation and I started having doubts if my explanation was clear. We also weren’t able to do the quiz since there was no code in the lesson plan. Finally, we ended with a wrap up and a closing prayer going a little overtime. Ma’am Rosanna also joined us during the call.

Our second session, which was our first genuine lecture discussion with the TD students, was a bit different from what I expected. We waited for about 15 minutes for the TD kids to join the Google Meet, and at that point we were worrying about what to do if no one was present. Thankfully, Peter joined but he was the only one to do so. We first reintroduced ourselves as the tutor since he wasn't present last time and we needed to get to know each other. He also tried his best to respond to our queries through chat. We informed him that the first half of the session would consist of an English class and the second half would consist of a Math class. I started the class with a minute of silence, an opening prayer, followed by a brief exercise in which I asked his opinion if the chicken or egg came first which is connected to the subject of course. I then proceeded to the lesson proper, making sure to ask if he understands the lesson each time, and it is an overall interesting encounter. We did a quick activity drill to see how well he understood the lesson by asking him to write his report on the comprehensive and coherent report.

Although there was some anxiety and nervousness before the session because it was our first actual lecture, it was amazing to interact and have fun with Peter even though he can only communicate through chat. I discovered how difficult, stressful, and excitingly lovely teaching is, and it was inspiring to hear about the preparation, planning, and execution that every teacher and tutor goes through. With God's eyes and direction on our side, we were able to push through and learn that if we believe and continue, we can do things we never thought possible. The assignment is challenging, but I persevered and believed in myself that I could complete it. Having faith enables me to find peace and assurance in God's presence during tough circumstances. I'm more ready to help students comprehend and reflect on their understandings and insights now that I've realized that I can improve my teaching.

To become a better tutor, I need to be more prepared, calm, and confident in myself. I feel that being more understanding, patient, and easygoing should be displayed in order to improve general communication and discourse. I will continue to put what I will teach and say into practice in order to improve. I'll continue to do my hardest to develop and be a better teacher to them. I believe God is calling me to be a confident and capable teacher who is compassionate and willing to assist and understand each student's circumstance. I'll urge them to be more active, ready to learn, and participate in lively debates. Hopefully, we'll be able to have a lecture that is both fascinating and useful.

Mich proceeded with the discussion of the Math lecture after my presentation, with their topic being Operations in Fractions. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time so she sped up the discussion. We wrapped the session up by reminding him of our upcoming meetings and reminders about the assignment which will be emailed since we were already working overtime already. We also made sure to thank Peter for attending and being patient although he was getting disconnected multiple times.

Before the session started, I was really nervous because of what happened last session. When my clock hit 3:00 PM, and no one was there I kind of panicked but luckily Elyssa entered, followed by Peter and Dennise. Elyssa and I discussed that I would go first in this session, so I did. It was also my lesson plan that I used, so I was very excited. I went on with the lesson and on the first example, Elyza joined us. I just did a short recap and continued. Throughout my time, I was trying to check on them, always asking if they got it by asking them to let me know using different responses like “chicken”, “McDo”, “KFC”, and “:)”. They were actually very responsive. For the first part, I was able to teach the lesson well and thoroughly. However, I think this cost me my time which then I was unable to discuss the next parts as well as I did, and we weren’t able to do the drills. At the same time, I think taking time in the very basic part of the lesson helped. This is because, even if I was going at a quicker pace for the next parts, they could still follow and understand. I even

I think that session was really fun, and it reminded me how well the first session went. I was really happy in this session because they were really participative and Dennise also had her camera on and I saw her smiling. I think the one thing that I realized in this session is the fact that things do get better even if it didn’t go as planned before. Additionally, I think that I realized that it is really a huge help when there is interaction because it breaks the barrier and it feels like you’re actually talking to someone, even if it is only online.

In the coming sessions, I should have more hope that things will go well and trust that it will. I think that Elyssa and I should also communicate about the length of the lessons we will be teaching, so that we know how to manage our time. I think that I should also think of more cute responses and prompts for them to answer when I ask them if they understood the lesson because I think they really enjoyed this.

With that, I believe that I saw God through the participation of the kids. I think that the interactions we had made it so much more meaningful and it was God’s way of reminding me of the good in these sessions. Through it, God was telling me to not give up with the kids and keep going as things will get better.

Furthermore, I think that God is calling me to engage with the students more. He is calling me to encourage their participation as it makes the session a lot better. Additionally, I think He is telling me to create a stronger relationship with the kids.

asked them if they wanted me to proceed or do more examples in which they chose to proceed. I continued asking them and encouraging them so that I could make sure that they still understood what I was teaching. Sadly, I did make some errors and we went a little overtime for math. I decided to not do the drills anymore and just discuss the answers with them, but I also encouraged them to try it in their free time. To end my time, I gave them the assignment prepared. We proceeded to Elyssa teaching English. Fortunately, we were able to finish the discussions on time and only went overtime to remind the kids of their assignments and show them the Google Drive we prepared. Overall, this session was very fun for us and, I think, for the kids as well. When we ended, my last prompt was to chat “KFC” and Peter sent a picture of the KFC logo, which I found really cute. Aside from that, we really didn’t experience any technical difficulties during the discussion and Dennise even had her camera on, only towards the end did we experience difficulties but it was only minor.

This session was a challenge for me because I was sick. That afternoon, I just came home from a checkup, and even though I’m not quite sure if I can handle teaching, I decided to take that risk because I didn’t want Mich to teach for the whole hour. Thankfully, three TD kids were present in the session, the most we had so far, and it went well. I told Mich that Math would go first since I came home an hour before the session started and I needed more time to prepare. Since it has a lighter workload and I know that I’m familiar with this grammar lesson, I decided to teach the supplementary lesson instead. Mich went a little overtime and I took over the last 20 minutes, which surprisingly was fit for my short discussion. I’m glad that the TD kids were active whenever I asked them questions about the lesson or if my pacing was just right for them. We ended the session by showing the kids the Google Drive we made for their easy access to the homework, presentations, and submission bin. We thanked everyone for coming and hoped that the succeeding session would be just as smooth.

Even though I wasn’t physically feeling my best, I still tried to put in the effort that I could that day. I gave into the uncertainty and relied on my prior preparation to properly execute my lesson for the TD kids because I wanted to do this for them and my partner, Mich. Even sick, I believed that I was still capable of teaching. I must admit that I had doubts about how the session would go, but they were all proven wrong at the end. Through this session, I fully trusted in God’s plan and guidance. Despite the doubts, we still had a fruitful session through believing in God.

I think that God is now asking me to prioritize my health as well. For the holy week, I will take the time to recharge, take a break from academics. In this way, I could better take care of myself and eventually the TD kids the following week we get back into the regular schedule. I will put in the effort as I always do in preparing for the upcoming lessons and this way, I am also being a responsible partner to Mich because I know how much this opportunity means to us. I will continue to learn from the gift of experience in every session.

I entered the call a few minutes early. Upon entering I was surprised to see Peter and Elyssa already in the call. I didn’t feel the stress and anxiety I felt in the previous sessions. I was excited to start the session, but, as usual, I played some music while waiting for the others to join. When it was 3 PM already, Elyza and Dennise joined us and we proceeded with the session. Elyzza started with the minute of silence and then the prayer. Afterwards, she proceeded with the lesson, from the icebreaker to the first part of the lesson. At this point, Nadine decided to join us and we were very excited. She just did a very quick recap of the part of the lesson that she missed then continued. After a while, Jebie also joined us as Elyssa continued her lesson. Throughout it, the kids were responsive and they got correct answers even in the drills. Elyssa finished 5 minutes earlier than expected. With that, we proceeded with the second half of the session. It was my turn to teach and I just proceeded as I did before. We started with the ice breaker, and it showed that

This session made me realize that the kids are not so comfortable yet and I think that they’re still shy. I saw this when they made a mistake in Math and no longer responded to the Math problems. I believe, and I have realized from this, that I have to make more effort as a tutor in teaching the kids.

First, I will try to have more energy and energize myself before the session starts. Second, I think it would be best if I gave them more assurance when they got the wrong answer so that they wouldn’t be discouraged when I asked them again. Third, although they are participating, it would be best if I also encourage them to turn on their cameras so that the session is more meaningful. In addition, I will also ask for their song requests.

On the other hand, this session was really a memorable one. All the kids were present and participating which made it really fun. However, I think that I lacked energy in this session compared to the others but with the kids interacting, this gave me a little more energy which pushed me to try my best. Lastly, I felt God’s presence in this session through the energy I got and was receiving with the kids. Admittedly, this was one of the sessions and days where I felt really tired. Somehow, in this session, I was getting boosts of

With that, I think God is calling me to be a tutor that is more of a friend to them. I think that this way we can create better relationships where they are comfortable. I believe that God is also calling me to enjoy the TD sessions more and not see it as something tiring but instead have energy and enjoy.

they really struggled with the lesson. Sadly, most of their answers were wrong but there were some correct. I think that this was evidence that this is a really tough lesson for them but I assured them that it was alright since we were going to discuss the lesson today anyway. Then, I proceeded with the lesson. I made sure to encourage them that they can do it and that it was easy because it incorporated the previous lesson which they understood well. During the lesson, from time to time, I asked them if they understood it using a prompt and they responded with it, which I took as them understanding the lesson. I also played the provided video after I gave my own lecture. In times where I would wait for them to answer, I would play music. This is what I did when I presented the drills as they answered it. Sadly, only Elyza responded in the chat but it was incorrect. So, I just discussed the solution to them and asked them again if they understood in which they responded that they did. We ended the session 10 minutes early. With the remaining time, we reminded them of the assignments since only Dennise has passed hers. We briefed them again of the drive and the process, especially Jebie and Nadine who were

energy and I was made aware to be more energized. All in all, I believe that I felt God’s presence as I had energy to push through and interact with the kids.

new to our sessions. Lastly, we asked them what topics they wish to discuss in the next sessions where they responded Evaluating narratives based on how the author developed the elements for English and Problem Solving using Addition, Subtraction, and Multiplication of Decimals for Math. Of course, we ended the session with a prayer and a picture. At some points, Ma’am Alaba also visited our call.

Before the session began, I thought to myself that I’m sufficiently prepared to tutor the kids for this day’s English lesson which is different from the previous sessions as I’m now aware of the strategies for teaching. A few minutes before 3 pm , I joined the meet and I was glad to see that Peter was early this time. I began shortly after Dennise and Elyza entered. The session started with the usual minute of silence, followed by the opening prayer, and then the ice breaker game in which I let the kids guess what object is shown in the picture as well as if it is a print, non-print, or digital material. They got it all correct except for the last one which I gave them a clue for. Moving on to the lesson proper, I was fairly quick to discuss the elements and tried to explain them as briefly but comprehensively as possible. With pauses from time to time, I make sure to ask the kids if my pacing is just right. I finished early so I used the time to ask questions to serve as the kids’ review. Mich took over the other half of the session with Math. I noticed that the kids weren’t as responsive so I tried to encourage them through chat as well.

As I was teaching, my mind wandered off to the time when I first studied the lesson back in grade 6. This lesson was particularly easy to grasp for me and I hoped that transpired to my discussion to the kids as well. I also felt at ease since I finally found my rhythm in teaching. Overall, it was really a nice session and I look forward to the last one we will have.

For the next and last session, I will try to express myself more to the kids especially since we plan to have a session that’s not academics related but a fun and engaging one. I will continue to prepare as much as I can before the session together with my partner, Mich. This is also to make sure that the program flows smoothly. Finally, I think the kind of tutors that God is asking us to be are free ones. Free in a sense that we trust that we execute our program as efficiently as we can, as well as say our goodbyes to the kids.

I think God guided us in this session through believing in our own capabilities. Even though the kids were actively reciting for my lesson but not for Mich, we still delivered to our respective subject subject with the best we can.

To end the session, we were happy that we had a few minutes so we used this time for reminders. We showed them the homeworks for that session, the Google Drive we made for the kids, and where they can submit. The session was a success and we finally closed off with a prayer.

It was unexpected that this session would be our last. For this session we originally asked them the lessons they wanted to be discussed, but, upon finding out that this would be our last, we asked via email what they wanted to do. With this they said, play games which we did.

I realized that we have made a bond already. Although this was quite last minute and it isn’t that strong yet, it was there. As we realized that we had more in common than we thought with this session when I saw their smiles as we responded to their questions, we all hoped to see each other again. In addition, I realized that this bond and relationship with the kids is truly what adds value to TD. I would really want to try this again.

The next time I have a similar session, I would make sure that I prioritize getting to know each other in the first session. I think it would be best that we have the activities we had in this session as the first session so that there is already a bond in the making. This way we would also be able to have a foundation to build on for future sessions, and hopefully the kids would be more comfortable so that they can really participate. An idea that came to mind that we could also do was start the following sessions with a quick question and answer portion to help build the bond.

At the start of the session, Dennise and Elyza joined a few minutes early just like they used to in the first session. This session had a somewhat nostalgic vibe because we used the same template for the slides and we prepared the same activities. We wanted to make this a full circle moment for us and it truly was. We started the session with only Dennise and Elyza with us, which was just like the first session. We immediately started with the games, this time Skrible.io was working so that was really fun. We all got to draw and guess. By the end of the game, we gave them the chance to ask us questions. Dennise went first as she won the game, then she was followed by Elyza. We saw their smiles when we answered and they could

I think that in this session, God was really present in the connection we all had. I believe that He made sure that we would be aware of this connection and how this added value so that we would be encouraged to seek more opportunities like this. I feel that He also did this to make this session more memorable and fulfilling.

I think that with this God is calling me to be, first, an, overall, better tutor. I think that throughout the sessions there were a lot of things that I can improve on and to be better, I feel that God is telling me to put myself there and get to know the kids more. He is telling me to check up on the kids and ask questions about them and allow them

relate to it. Just like the first session, we also played Bring me. They were so ready and really exerted effort in participating in this game. Similar to Skribbl.io, those who would win would be the first to ask us a question. However, as we were running out of time, we no longer continued the question and answer part for the last few items. Around the time that we were wrapping up the games, Jebie decided to join us. He didn’t participate as much as the two but he was still there. When we finished with the games, we proceeded to reminisce on our previous sessions. Afterwards, we moved to giving our final messages. As we came to a close, there was not much time left so we ended with a prayer and a picture. We went slightly overtime and even then, they didn’t leave immediately.

to do the same so that we could be more than tutors and kids but also friends. Second, I believe that with this, God is also calling me to learn from my past sessions to be better, and at the same time, telling me to share this experience and tips to others, especially the incoming juniors, on how they can make their sessions more meaningful. I think that with this God is calling me to be, first, an, overall, better tutor. I think that throughout the sessions there were a lot of things that I can improve on and to be better, I feel that God is telling me to put myself there and get to know the kids more. He is telling me to check up on the kids and ask questions about them and allow them

Initially, this was supposed to be another day of lessons in both math and English until we were informed that this would be the last session. The last session consisted of fun games and emotional messages about parting ways. Presented through the powerpoint layout we had for the introduction of the first ever session we had back in March. We decided that we wanted to keep it light, simple, and non-academic related. Although only Dennise and Elyza were present, we didn’t mind since they were always the ones attending and it was quite reminiscent of the first session with the same scenario. The first game that we played was through Skribble, wherein each of us drew what the given prompt was. We made sure to be chatty and just be chill with them all throughout the game. Next, we played "Bring Me" again since it was fun from the first session and we knew the kids enjoyed this too. As a prize, for each round, the person who wins gets to ask us a question, which we answer truthfully. In turn, they got to know us, our hobbies, likes, and essentially, who we really are beyond being their tutors. We also asked them the questions they asked us out of curiosity and interest.

Overall, I think it was the best session of all, despite the fact that it was also the last. Additionally, I also received an email from Dennise after the session where an image was attached: it had a message written for me with a picture of Chris Evans, the celebrity crush I told them during one of our games. I realized that I found friendship and love through Tunong Dunong. Getting to know the kids is what makes the journey all the more magical and worthwhile.

The realization that this was the final session was sad, yet everything had been worth it. We did everything to the best of our ability, delivered, and aim to do so again in the future. Increasing my knowledge, confidence, and self-assurance has helped me become a better instructor, and I aim to keep doing so. I will do everything I can to continue to learn and grow as a teacher for those who are in need. I believe God is calling me to be a confident and skilled teacher who understands and is ready to help each kid in their unique situation. I've grown as a teacher, and I'm eager to put what I've learned to good use in the future.

With God's aid and direction, we were able to push through and learn that if we believe and endure, we can achieve things we never thought possible. Although it was disappointing to realize that this was the last session, one thought that sprang to me was that all of our efforts and hard work had been well worth it.

Before we ran out of time, we proceeded to present the throwback pictures from the past four sessions and explain them briefly. Jebie joined in late as well. Finally, we showed our message to the TD kids regarding our whole experience in TD. I can definitely say that Mich and I’s messages were touching because even I was surprised when we read them to the kids. They were shocked too and expressed their gratitude through chat. We told them it wasn’t a goodbye but rather to see you around. Afterwards, Mich led the closing prayer. Finally, we took a group picture, and it was lovely to see them for the very last time.

The task is certainly challenging, but I persisted and believed in my ability to complete it. It was clearly a wake-up call to what every teacher and tutor faces: the mounting pressures of preparation and performance, as well as other individual responsibilities. Even in the face of misfortune, faith permits me to find peace and assurance in God's presence. I recognized that my teaching could still be improved, and that my desire to serve children would increase.
