July 2021
Greetings Members, Operations are in full swing and it is exciting. We have been experiencing several last minute pop-up events recently and Irene has been providing many tours of the facilities for future weddings. Over the past year we have invested in the Canterbury Room and Ballroom for this particular reason knowing there would be significant demand once things open back up. It turned out to be a wise decision. On premise, a la carte dining has expanded making the Patio and Deck a favorite spot, again. The outdoor bar is back open and Raul is serving up your favorite libations. We encourage you to come and join him.

I recently visited my hometown in Western Michigan and found restaurants were struggling for staff. So much so that most, if not all, restaurants limit the days and hours they are open. When open, service was painfully slow but we were patient. On our last evening in town, we went to a place that we frequent often while there. We know the owners and want to support the local community. We pulled up to see a sign on the door that they were closed until June 17 due to labor shortages. Here at MSC we have not experienced shortages to that level but we are looking for additional staff as I write this. MSC has been fortunate in this situation. Now that we have opened to Phase 5, on behalf of the Management Team and Staff, we want to thank you for your support through these unprecedented times. I believe that is why much of our staff remain. While other entities are struggling MSC has retained the majority of its dedicated staff and that is thanks to the support from the Board of Directors and the membership. Since I worked here back in the 90’s I have had the privilege of witnessing how The Club has changed and progressed over time. Like the private club industry in general, MSC has transformed from a sleepy club to a vibrant family oriented club - this being by design. Many clubs that have not kept up with the times and not transitioned to younger family memberships have disappeared. Now the challenge? How to accommodate the needs of all constituencies; new young families and long term older members. You only need to look at all The Club events scheduled to see the diversity in the needs of the membership. From Young at Heart and wine dinners to family events such as the Mother & Daughter Tea, Etiquette Classes, Pastry Classes, Halloween, etc. In addition, traditional events such as Easter, Mother’s Day, 3rd of July Annual Club Picnic are attended by all constituencies - we provide activities for young families with children. The real challenge for clubs is keeping mutual respect for the needs of all members, older members understanding that the continued life blood of The Club is the young families and younger members understanding that older members built what The Club is today. This is what makes this the Michigan Shores Family and the fantastic social outlet that it is. Be well,
Tom Conroy, CCM, CCE President

Fitness & Wellness
Please join us in welcoming Massage Therapist Frederick Weinstein to the MSC Fitness and Wellness team! Frederick Weinstein is excited to be the newest addition to the Michigan Shores Club family of professionals. He brings 22 years of experience as a National Board Certified and state licensed Massage Therapist, who has been associated with the Ritz Carlton, Peninsula Hotel, Equinox Fitness, and Mather Lifeways. After graduating university in New York, where he was born and raised, he traveled the world before graduating from the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics, as well as completing his training as an Emergency Medical Technician. Frederick works with intention, specifically tailoring each session to the needs of the individual for whom he is grateful to be of service. His therapeutic bodywork incorporates elements of Deep Tissue, Swedish, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point, Shiatsu, Sports, CranioSacral, and Reflexology. He is also certified in Manual Lymph Drainage.
The essence of his work, however, is a combination of innate, intuitive empathy and clinical knowledge. He approaches health from the perspective that optimal healing takes place when we allow ourselves the opportunity to embrace the present moment, breathing into the connection with our authentic selves from a place of gratitude. He has given presentations on the mind/body connection, and believes that healthy living is a result of mindful choices that support our vision of our best physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self. Frederick is also a published writer, novelist, and accomplished musician. He has been an Evanston resident since 2007, along with his dog, Mr. Bear. He respectfully looks forward to cultivating authentic connections while being of service to everyone in the Michigan Shores Club family of members and staff. Frederick will be starting with the team Monday July 5th. Please contact the Fitness Center front desk at 224-408-8299 to book a session with Frederick!

Golf Society
MSC Golf Society One of the benefits of the Golf Society is participation in a summer 9-hole league at The Glen Club. Al Golembeski & Tony Lazaro are coordinating the league this year. The group plays on Thursday nights with tee times starting at 5:00 pm. There is no every-week commitment – you can simply play when your schedule permits. Click the button below to view additional details about the program. We play with handicaps, and have low handicappers as well as high handicappers represented. To be put on the weekly mailing list to see who wants to play the following Thursday, email Al Golembeski at agolembesk@aol.com. If you would like to play, let him know by noon on the Tuesday before the Thursday. If you have any questions on the 9-hole league, feel free to email Mr. Golembeski, or give him a call at (312) 718-5861. Golf Society Members only.
Reminder We are still offering a dozen MSC logoed Pro V1 golf balls for any Golf Society referrals to our program.
Upcoming Events The Glen Club Wednesday July 21 | 1:00 pm Multiple long drives & closest to the hole contests throughout the day. Enjoy a postgolf meetup on the patio by the fire pits for some heavy apps and adult beverages. Golf Society Members only.
Looking Ahead The Golf Society will be hosting additional golf events this summer. Following those events, there will be a Ryder Cup event with the Winnetka Men's Golf Club in October. Additional details will be available in the coming weeks.
