a higher stall torque converter (Automatic) and/ or rear end gear changes to keep the car in the rpm range. You can clearly see some additional expenses involved with a cam swap.
Simple LS Mods The modern GM LS motors respond very well to simple basic modifications. The most common simple mods are cold air intakes, higher ratio rocker arms, and long tube headers with high flow cats. These simple mods won’t break the bank and do not affect overall drivability. Camshafts are a great modification but the cost is fairly substantial for installation. Camshafts also affect the power band of the motor and may require gear end changes and torque converters to run properly.

A good quality cold air intake will cost between $300-500 depending on the manufacturer and design. I always look for a ram air design if available for your car. Vararam

makes excellent cold intake systems for many GM performance cars. A little more expensive, but provide additional airflow as the vehicle picks up If you are a track enthusiast, GM has you covered with Z07 performance option package. This gives you 15” monobloc calipers and ceramic rotors, cutting 23 lbs speed. This could yield and additional 10-15HP of unsprung weight. Aero changes include front winglets and an adjustable rear that won’t show up on a stationary dyno test. A spoiler. This package generates more downforce than any car GM has ever produced. good cold air intakes will probably have a net
gain of 10-15HP at the rear wheels. A word of caution, a typical cold intake will make a car RELIABILITY ATairGREAT PRICES run about 8-10% leaner throughout the power band. Don’t believe the advertising claims that no tune is required. Another relatively simple mod is swapping in higher ratio rocker arms and new valve springs. Approximately $1000 for the parts and $500-600 for labor depending on the car. This requires stronger valve springs in order to control the valves at higher lift. A stock LS cam is around .500 lift or so. Swapping a 1.7 to a 1.85 rocker arm will yield and additional .044 of valve lift. Going from Proudly Serving .500 to .544 don’t much, but &it’s a dyno Kent seem County, like Washington County, Providence proven 12 to 15TQ throughout the power band and a peak of 12-15HP without the lumpy 401 823 idle 8113of 1343 Main a cam swap. GM LS motors love long tube headers and high flow cats. Typically a good set of headers can yield an additional 30-45 HP on a relatively stock vehicle. Tuning is required with long tubes to get the best benefit from them. The motor will be about 10-12% lean, so a custom tune will be required. Long tubes usually come in three main sizes 1 3/4, 1 7/8, and 2 inch tube diameter. Depending on where you want your torque and horsepower curve to be enhanced. 1 3/4 is good for relatively stock vehicles with a stock camshaft. I usually suggest 1 7/8 headers for most LS cars. Most customers have future mods in mind and the 1 7/8 works well with additional mods like camshafts. I really only suggest 2 inch headers for heavily modified cars with bigger cubic

SLP 1.85 LS3 To get the most out of any of these simple LS mods, computer tuning is required to make the most power safely. Anytime you affect the airflow of a modern car the computers need to be adjusted for the additional airflow. Lean spots will cause the car to see knock and pull timing. Parts make the power, but tuning allows the computer to extract the most out of any build. Precision Dyno is a completely independent dyno testing facility. We offer Custom Cams, Ported Cylinder Heads, Supercharger & Turbocharger installation packages for GM LSX powered vehicles. We specialize in GM tuning with EFILive tuning software. NH Mustang Club’s Annual Extravagan
ED YESSAIAN
Best Muscle Car- Bruce Stoddard- 1966 Fairlane
As many of you know by now, I prefer to spend the majority of my free time drag racing and promoting racing events, but of course occasionally, I do enjoy a good car show or cruise night. With that being said, there is one show that I have faithfully attended for nearly 15 years straight now, and that is NH Mustang Club’s Annual MUSTANG MANIA show at The Anheuser Busch plant in Merrimack, NH. A portion of the proceeds from this show always go to the Animal Rescue League of NH along with some other small charitable donations. The show consists of over 30 categories, welcomes all makes and models, and is without a doubt the largest gathering of predominantly Ford cars and trucks. Normally the show welcomes close to 500 vehicles but with the threat of rain and then some occasion drizzle, attendance was slightly lower this year, but the diehards still made it out to the show and dozens of happy enthusiasts went home with the gold. It’s here! Benvenuto in Italia! Rolling from a compete frame off rotisserie style restoration is the classically admired 1969 Fiat Spider 124 Series that has been an upcoming favorite project for quite some. This beauty belongs to Mr. Greg DeJean who picked this automobile up out of California as a sentimental momento to match a coveted vehicle that was once in his family long ago. Coming in with a cracked block from winter, this bad boy received a 1600CC DOHC engine and a complete overhaul. The body was worked to perfection in a gorgeous eye-catching red, and the upholstery fashioned to meet original standards. You may be familiar with our previous article on the start of the build, but with the hard work and dedication of the Xtreme Restorations team this ride has been brought back to showroom condition.
Xtreme Restorations is a larger facility located in Slatersville, Rhode Island offering complete restorations and hot rod builds. They provide custom fabrications, professional upholstering, welding, electrical, all body and engine work, as well as specializing in rare and luxurious vehicles. Many of their finished restorations have graced the floors of World of Wheels, Detroit Autorama, and SEMA to name a few highlighted and partici12| Motorhead Magazine - August 2016

NEW GENERATION CHALLENGE
Sunday September 11th at NE Dragway ED YESSAIAN It’s always funny when I hear the older generation complaining about the youth of today and how they’re all stuck behind cell phones and computers. It’s comical to hear them reminisce about the way things were and how kids today don’t do this or that. While there is some truth to the accusations that some of the kids today are pampered and everything ends in a tie that is certainly not the case within the sport of Drag Racing. If these kids want a win, they earn it, and it’s certainly not easy! If you look deeper into the big picture, many of life’s lessons are embedded into the sport and they mold these kids into respectable adults. First and foremost drag racing teaches kids to be reliable. In a Points series, the kids must attend every race in order to be a contender. It also teaches the kids that in order to be successful, they have to put in the time, plain and simple- practice and seat time wins races. Drag racing also offers the kids a sense of comradery that is otherwise slowly fading away in today’s society. One of the best parts of Stephanie Correia’s Junior Dragster program is watching the kids grow up together and help each other out. After Junior Dragsters, the kids move on to the next level of competition, either Street Eliminator or Pro Eliminator, and by that time, they’ve experienced their share of wins, losses, broken cars, and heartbreaks, but for many of these kids Drag Racing is now a part of life, it’s something they do and it’s something they look forward to. So to showcase the talents of those we consider the future of drag racing in New England, I will be presenting the 1st Annual NEW GENERATION CHALLENGE at New England Dragway in Epping, NH. 16| Motorhead Magazine - August 2016

Justin Herring is starting his son o ED YESSAIAN When Justin Herring and his wife Caitlin pulled into Anheuser Busch in two separate Mustangs, the first thing that came to my mind was how lucky he was to have his whole family sharing his passion and his hobby. Having one of the rarest 2004 SVT Cobra’s in Competition Orange would satisfy pretty much any Mustang enthusiast but to take it one step further he went out and got his wife Caitlin another very rare find, an Oxford White Mustang Mach 1. According to the Herring’s, it’s actually much easier to travel in two cars because they like to pack a ton of stuff like their EZ-up tent, chairs, cleaning supplies and of course their newest addition Baby Jaxon!! And talk about a debut, Baby Jaxon walked out of Anheuser Busch with TWO Best in Class awards, one for each car! 22| Motorhead Magazine - August 2016
Mama Caitlin’s car is the simpler of the two. A nearly bone-stock Mach 1 with just over 20k original miles. Aside from a set of coil-overs, the car sits as it did when it left the production line. I’m sure there are future plans to add a thing or two to the car, but because the Oxford White Mach 1’s had the lowest of all production numbers in both 2003 and 2004, there won’t be too many modifications to it.
is fed through a JLT intake and BA3000 MAF, and a pretty stout fuel system consisting of a set of ID1000 injectors, Kenne Bell Boost-a-pump, Fore Fuel hat, and twin GT pumps keeps the car’s thirst quenched adequately. Both visibly and functionally, the engine bay of Justin’s COBRA is incredible, but when he turned the key and the car came to life, a huge crowd gathered, just to see this Comp Orange Masterpiece!!
Justin’s Competition Orange COBRA, while also quite rare, is a different story completely. Currently boasting 615rwhp, the car has its share of top of the line enhancements and continues to be a work in progress, as we all know is the case once you get the car bug. Evolution Performance built a nearly indestructible foundation for the engine build and topped it with an upgraded Whipple blower. His pulley selection consists of a 4lb lower and 3.5 upper good for 18lbs of boost. Air
The glorious tone emitted from Justin’s car starts at the front, as exhaust gases are disposed of through a set of American Racing 1 7/8 headers. A 3 inch mid-pipe and Bassani Race system finish the setup, making for one heck of a symphony when he steps on it. And of course when he steps on it, he also needs the car to be responsive and predictable, so he recruited the help of Maximum Motorsports to upgrade his suspension set-up and they went all out. A tubular k-mem-

ber, tubular control arms, and coilovers at all four corners help to keep the car planted. MM’s Caster/Camber plates help fine tune it all and COBRA-R Brembo brakes bring it to a screeching halt when needed. All four corners are decked out in AFS 18” chrome replica wheels and Toyo R888’s make sure there’s no problem staying glued to the pavement. I asked Justin if he had any future plans for the car and at the moment he wasn’t really sure because he has a brand new baby boy and is still currently on Active Duty with the Coast Guard, now having served over 12 years. He enlisted in 2004 and his first unit was stationed in Monterey California on an 87’ patrol boat doing law enforcement as well as search and rescue. From there he headed to Omaha, Nebraska, working on a 75’ river tender, and also spent time in Boston, Massachusetts, Hampton, NH, and is currently stationed at Coast Guard Station Point Allerton in Hull, MA. He is currently doing law enforcement and search and rescue, as well as port security. He is currently working towards becoming a First Class Petty Officer (E6). If there was ever one great role-model for Baby Jaxon to follow after, it would definitely be his Dad, Justin Herring!! And judging by his success at his first car show, I’d definitely say that baby Jaxon is a chip off the old block!!

Growing up, I would describe myself as sort of a car nut. In my teens and early twenties, it was all about going faster, when I grew from a small block ‘64 Impala SS to a ‘67 SS with a 396. The 396 is where I got heavily involved in always trying to go faster. But my love for cars came to a halt when my career started and raising a family was my first priority. But once my two boys were in college, I decided that it was time to get back into the hobby. I was looking for something that I had never owned or driven before and was really drawn to the early 1930’s Fords. I liked their style and decided that this was the way to go. After looking at several 32’s and found that the ‘34 had more leg room and suited me much better. I then concentrated my search on 1934 Fords. I came across this one online in Macon, Georgia. It seemed to have all the basics that I was looking for; small block 350 with a turbo 350 transmission and a 9 inch Ford rear end. The paint job looked really nice too. I took a trip to Macon Georgia to see it and made a deal with the owner. When I brought the car home, I thought that I should enjoy it for the first year before making any big changes. Then the process began to transform this vehicle into something that
was more my style. The SBC 350 was very mild, developing around 300 horsepower. That needed to be changed. So we built a SBC 406. The new motor is a full roller motor developing more than 400 HP and substantially more torque. I decided that I needed to put a little more gear in the rear end and went from 3:00’s to 3:50’s, kept it very streetable but with much better acceleration. After making the performance changes, it was onto the interior, which had a grey cloth interior that was serviceable, but I never really liked it. So it was off to the shop for a new white interior. The seats, door panels, headliner and trunk are all white ultra with black carpeting. Just for an added touch, we installed heated seatsjust to be different. It continues to be a work in progress with other changes to come in the future. I drive this car as often as I can, meeting up with friends, both old and new. I try to get to as many cruise nights as possible and an occasional show with it. It’s won numerous awards, however to me it’s just a car to drive and have fun with. A special thanks to John Conti, Dave Lombari, Russ Glynn, RISRA and other friends that have given help and advice along the way.

What does all this have to do with cars and trucks? Nothing, that’s the point of this article.
Okay, enough is enough. It isn’t Christmas Season but, hey! Tell that to everyone in July who pretends it is.
We as the public are forced into what the industry says we are to be focusing on and not what we
We endure cold and blustery winters here in New England every year and in July we see Christmas Season stuff all over the place when we should be thinking, Cruisin’ Season, not Christmas Season. Hallmark Channel introduces their new Christmas Season decorations and cards throughout the month and when I am cruisin’ home from a cruise night somewhere you can bet that I am going to be seeing some people with Christmas decorations, lights and Santa Claus with his eight freakin reindeer displayed on and around their homes.
The season goes by quick enough for all of us and I do not particularly enjoy seeing the industry force feed us the holidays long before they actually get here. What ever happened to enjoying the moment? Stop and smell the burnt rubber and exhaust fumes. It’s SUMMER TIME!!! I am not going out to buy Christmas gifts right now. I am buying something advertised inside the covers of MOTORHEAD MAGAZINE for my vehicle this summer Cruisin’ Season and so should you. These advertisers are providing us with great automotive products and services and it has nothing to do with the holidays. I am attending a Car & Truck Show and Cruise Nights, not decorating my house or waiting patiently for that special Halloween Costume to come out later this month.
“Hey, it was July, go buy an ice cream cone, or get a delicious Del’s Lemonade when it is 95 degrees outside and get on with your lives.”
really want to be focusing on instead.
So here we are, it’s August. Can’t wait for all of those back-to-school commercials and circular ads in all of the newspapers. But wait... those Halloween decorations are about to go on display in every retail store across the region and the country too.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the holidays. But, Christmas in July? Halloween in August? Nope, we can all do without that. Especially if we are classic car and truck enthusiasts and it’s 98 degrees in the shade at our car shows and cruise nights. It’s the Cruisin’ Season. Let’s just focus on the Cruisin’ Season... please. Cars, yay! Trucks, yay! Motorcycles, yay!
I am heading to the ocean and seaside communities and patronizing those businesses while enjoying what the Ocean State has to offer. More than likely driving up to a classic car and truck show or cruise night by the sea. And, wherever I go I take MOTORHEAD MAGAZINE with me for all of those automotive enthusiasts I meet along the way. So, turn off all those decorations and head out for a great evening of Cruisin’ around the region while you still can. It’s August, summer is almost over. Get out, and stay out! Have fun and drive safely everyone. It’s Cruisin’ Season.

2008 GMC CUSTOM JIM WEICHERDING The first time I laid my eyes on this pick up truck I was hooked. I was covering the car and truck show at the annual NEW ENGLAND TECH CRUISE EVENT this summer and saw this pick up truck parked near some of my buddies’ classic cars and trucks across the parking lot. For one thing, the color is very cool and the stance of this truck is very appealing to the eye.
truck. Overall, this is one gorgeous truck and I am sure that if you walk up to David at any area car and truck show, or cruise night, he will be more than happy to show you all of his 2008 GMC Pick Up Truck custom features and installations. A photo is worth a thousand words so here are some great photos of David’s Show Truck. Enjoy.
I am, as many of you are well aware of that see me at car shows and cruise nights across the region, that I am a truck guy. I attend many of these venues in my own show truck every week of the cruisin’ season. David Redmond, of Cranston, Rhode Island, is the proud owner of this unique and original 2008 GMC Pick Up Truck. This truck features a V8 A Tune with JBA Headers and custom stainless steel exhaust system. Sounds great! The grill is custom made and features 50 different colors within the grill light assembly. A custom hood keeps the engine compartment under wraps unless David chooses to display his engine at car and truck shows. The wheels are custom Billet Wheels and the new Baer Brakes and Rotors help stop this truck on a dime. You won’t see another pick up truck with these wheels anytime soon I can assure you. The interior boasts custom leather seats with the GMC symbol embroidered on each one of them. Very attractive and comfortable interior seats. Can’t beat a leather seat for looks and comfort. Another cool feature is the custom stereo system with a surround sound that will knock your socks off within any distance that you might be standing at a car and truck show, or cruise night. I also love the custom push button tonneau cover installed on the bed of this 2008 GMC Pick Up Truck. Beats getting out and opening the tailgate and lifting the tonneau cover by hand like I do every single time I want access to the back of my CALL 401-965-9012 TO ADVERTISE

Etch mats the gas pedal and the GTO launches from its stopped position. The front tires lift off the ground to the echoing sound of the dual exhaust and then screaming rear tires. GPS units are essential equipment on today’s boats. Units range from inexpensive handhelds to full blown chart plotters. Many GPS units have built in mapping or accept digital maps to help the user navigate.
Navigational units can usually be set to miles per hour, or knots. Since water is measured in nautical miles, it is preferred to set GPS units of measure to nautical miles and knots. It is also relevant to
Boaters can choose from a simple handheld unit or choose a fixed mount unit. Both types have advantages and disadvantages. Many boaters keep a hand held unit for safety even if they also use a fixed unit. One nice feature for many handhelds is a special cradle with a power cable for use when under way.
Waypoints, routes and track data can all be downloaded, stored, edited and uploaded back to the GPS via the users computer or other device. This can be a vital feature that allows the user to save important data. Data from one GPS can also be shared or cloned to another unit. All these features allow users to easily manage a vast amount of information effectively.
Configuring your GPS is important in order to navigate accurately. Among the parameters to be chosen are map datum, navigational units, data output and the unit’s course format. Each of these elements should be understood and set before using the unit to navigate. Map datum refers to the original process that the paper chart was designed with. In order to compare a GPS position to a paper chart, both the GPS unit and the chart must use the same datum. WGS84 is the most common datum in use among American boaters. NAD83, the other common datum is virtually the same. International charts use a variety of datums so mariners are advised to always check navigational charts and configure the GPS unit accordingly.
GPS units can store the near exact location of a given point of reference. Modern GPS units often come with a wide range of waypoints pre-programmed. In addition, the user can also store, name and recall custom waypoints. This allows boaters and fishermen to store and maintain lists of fishing hotspots, navigational marks and other important locations. GPS units also store routes and plotting history so the mariner can call up a pre-programmed path to follow or review a vessel’s earlier path.
GPS units can be a great navigational tool when used properly, although GPS units should never be relied on as a primary means of navigation. A fundamental understanding of basic navigation is vital to successful operation of these indispensable tools. remember that your paper chart typically displays units in nautical miles. A degree of latitude is 60 nautical miles, and a minute of latitude is 1 nautical mile. Knots are important as 1 knot = 1 nautical mile. Another setting to choose is course up or North up. This will make the plotter display the chart or grid always with the course oriented in front or always in a North up orientation.

SummerTime Cruisin’ Classics:
Amore Farm Annual Meet LAURYN “HOTWHEELS” PONTIAC-VERNANCIO It’s always a great time when summer hits and the legendary cars of all makes and models come out. We can’t help but analyze the collection of vintage and classics while reminiscing the days of pinups and hard rocked out eighties that would set the trend for what would become the newer generation of Hot Rods untold. Many cruise nights throughout New England offer the pleasure of viewing such intriguing masterpieces, however a larger number in one sitting is one of the rarest of all to find. Many share a mutual interest of attending the “Amore Farm” meet, which is held toward the end of June or early July annually. While they welcome most makes and models, the rarest of early vintage models are most invited to attend. This annual meeting is not just limited to automobiles, but also choppers, mini bikes, and a vast variety of anything on wheels of the sort. Let’s not forget the vintage fire trucks that also give a hands down unique appearance as well as an abundance of “cook out” foods. Not for the faint of heart, it wouldn’t be an Amore tradition without laying down some rubber on the farm’s backstretch which will stay as a remembrance year round of what most individuals have come here for, memories of good friends, great food, and intriguing cars. 42| Motorhead Magazine - August 2016

St. Eugene’s Cruise Night ate SVT COBRA
There’s really no other felling like taking delivery of your first Mustang or Muscle Car, especially when you’re in your early teenage years. The first time you lay eyes on that aggressive stance, the first smell of the leather interior, the first feeling of that rumble that happens after your first turn of the key. Every one of us can recall what seemed like the greatest day of our life when we got behind the wheel of our very own piece of American History. For Jason Pjojian of Cranston RI, that amazing sense of ownership and pride came to reality this past summer when he got his hands on his immaculate 1997 SVT COBRA.
1251 Putnam Pike Route 44 Chepachet, RI Ed Yessaian
EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT
Jason is the third owner of the car, but both of the first two owners were ridiculously obsessed with keeping it clean, garaged, and well maintained. As of this article the car only has 34,000 miles and doesn’t seem to have a single chip, scratch, or fingerprint anywhere on it. Jason credits the car’s current appearance and brilliant shine to his father Bob Pjojian, who shared many of his detailing secrets. Bob is currently in search of a new 2015 Mustang GT Convertible, which will be his fourth Mustang. So we know that Jason has a great role model to follow.
All Summer Long 5PM TO DUSK
From the outside, the car appears to be mostly stock, by coming from only a handful withSponsored visual enhancements of tasteful modifications. A Saleen S281 spoiler replaces the factory pedestal spoiler and 18 inch Steeda Pentar wheels shine brilliantly at each corner.

Vehicles rely on many components working harmoniously to function at optimal capacity. Any number of systems can go wrong, and oftentimes the first indication that something has gone awry is an illuminated dashboard signal.
One such signal is the “check engine” light. Many drivers have little idea what to do when this indicator lights up, and this light can cause some anxiety. According to Consumer Reports, a check engine light turning on does not usually require immediate action. However, it does mean that you should make an appointment to have the vehicle inspected for potential problems. Check engine lights are part of a car’s onboard diagnostics. The light turning on may indicate something minor, such as a loose fuel cap, or something more serious like a misfiring engine. When the light turns on, drivers wondering why may
want to see if the answer is related to one of the following issues. 1. Loose gas cap: Fuel vapors can leak out and air can get in when the fuel cap isn’t secured correctly. This can compromise the fuel system and make the check engine light come on. Take off the cap and then reseal it to see if that alleviates the problem. Cracked caps will need to be replaced. 2. Dirty oxygen sensor: A faulty or clogged sensor may not provide the right information about unburned oxygen from the vehicle’s exhaust. This sensor monitors how much fuel is burned. Compromised data can cause a decrease in fuel efficiency. Some do-it-yourselfers can replace an oxygen sensor on their own, but those who can’t should have the issue addressed immediately by a professional.
3. Too much speed or load: Towing a trailer or another heavy item may put strain on the vehicle and cause the light to come on because of loss of power. Lightening the load and reducing speed can help fix the problem. Always consult with the owner’s manual to determine the towing capacity of your vehicle. 4. Short or faulty code: Computers aren’t always fool-proof, and sometimes an electrical short or another similar problem can cause a light to come on. Bring the vehicle to an automotive supply store. Such stores typically have diagnostics tools that can be hooked into the car’s computer and provide a more detailed understanding of what is triggering the check engine indicator. In many cases, a steady check engine light is not a serious concern. However, when such a light comes on, drivers should try to find out why as soon as possible.

Barn Find Four-Eye ED YESSAIAN
Jimm Parsons 1985 Mustang 5.0
It was early on a Saturday morning a couple weeks ago when I met a few friends at Christina’s Country Café in Hampstead, NH for our monthly breakfast and Mustang chat session. Within the “Breakfast Club” was George Martin (Project Fallen Hero Crew Chief ) and Jimm Parsons who happened to mention that he needed a hand moving a couple snowmobiles and trailers. So after breakfast, off we went to Jimm’s absolutely breathtaking compound extraordinaire, complete with indoor heated swimming pool and four car garage. Being the inquisitive young lad that I am, I obviously had to poke around the garage. Keep in mind that Jimm is also the same guy featured on TV and in magazines for having over 250,000 Hot Wheels, Match Box Cars, and die-cast models, dating back over three decades. With that in mind, I just wanted to see what was in his garages.
the car, roughly 25 years ago, while on a business trip in Georgia. He was flipping through a Hemmings Classifieds magazine and an ad for several retired Police vehicles caught his eye. He decided to take a road trip, just to pass the time, and to his surprise, when he got there, there sat the 85 with only 69 miles. Jimm remembers picking the car up for extremely short money and had a Ford Motorsports catalog shipped to his house almost immediately after. While the cars stock power level was above average for that year, Jimm went to work making a few minor changes.
In the main area of the garage was Jimm’s Car Show masterpiece, a supercharged 2005 Mustang GT which not only boasts over 600rwhp but it also features one of the most incredible audio/ video systems I have ever seen. This car is truly one of the nicest examples of the 05-09 generation that you will ever come across. But hidden just a couple feet away from it, under a cover that has not been removed in quite some time, sat a car that literally took my breath away. To say that it was love at first sight would be the understatement of the century. I pretty much told Jimm, flat out, I want this car!! The car that we speak of is an absolutely immaculate 1985 Mustang 5.0 with only 19,163 miles.
The complete exhaust system was ripped out from front to back and in its place a set of ceramic coated Ford Motorsport shorty headers, a high flow mid-pipe, and Flowmaster mufflers helped reduce restriction and create a viscious growl that definitely made the car stand out. A Hurst shifter made gear changes more predictable and precise and further down the driveline a complete Motorsport rear end was swapped for the stock piece. This setup included an upgraded differential, 3.73 gears, and rear disc brakes.
Jimm explained exactly how he came to acquire
In the engine compartment Jimm mixed a hand-
ful of cosmetic and functional modifications to the car, including a carburetor upgrade to get rid of the troublesome piece that came with the car. Upgraded plugs, wires, air cleaner, and valve covers added a subtle yet tasteful change under the hood and helped add a few more ponies as well. Visually, the car is almost bone-stock to the untrained eye, again with just handful of subtle changes. The stock LX front bumper was tossed for a GT bumper that gave the car a more aggressive look and also housed the famous Marchal fog lamps. The traditional “10 hole” wheels were put on the shelf and in their place a set of chrome pony wheels took their place at each corner. A 245 width tire fills the wheel-wells and gives the car an absolutely incredible looking stance from all angles. A few other minor chrome trim pieces found their way on the car but other than that the car looks like a stock 1985 Mustang. As the afternoon continued and we hung out for a while longer at Jimm’s, I was getting the feeling that he wasn’t amused by my continued inquiries on selling me the car. However, just days after I uncovered the car I got a call from him saying that just a new battery and an oil change and the car fired right up. That in itself was pretty impressive, considering it had sat for nearly two decades. After that phone call I couldn’t help but think to myself, how much longer would that car have been locked away if I hadn’t been so damn nosy? Would Jimm ever sell it to me? Did I rekindle a long lost love that he had so many years ago, for a car that is truly one of a kind? For now, I was told the car is not for sale, but there’s a chance he could be willing to part with it by the time my kid is ready to drive, sixteen years from now. Hopefully he will surrender long before that but until then it’s just great to know that we brought it out of hibernation for other MOTORHEADS to see and enjoy.
