It has always been said that change is inevitable and there are different paths to choose when dealing with change. Some people simply fear change, they resist it, and they fight it with every grain of their well-being. Other people embrace change, they accept it as a gateway to bigger and better things and they use it to propel themselves ahead. One man that I have always admired in this respect is Rhode Island’s Muscle Car Legend Bob Tasca Senior. Bob Senior was a visionary; he was lightyears ahead of his time and this is what kept him ahead of his competition both on the track and in the showroom of his family’s growing number of dealerships. This philosophy clearly led him to incredible success and throughout his life he ingrained these same values into his children and grandchildren so that they could secure their own futures as well as the futures of the many following generations.

It will be these future generations of Tasca children that will need to continue welcoming change, they will need to appreciate what is on the horizon of the automotive world, and they will need to master their craft better than any one of their competitors. With devel-

opments in the automotive industry, especially in electric vehicle technology, advancing at an alarming pace, it is vital to keep up to date on industry trends and appreciate different perspectives as they present themselves in this ever-changing world. This is something I think Bob Tasca Senior would have thrived on. I truly believe that if Bob Senior was here today, he would have recognized that electric vehicles are not just a fad and he would have recognized their value to the future of both the industry and the world. According to his son Carl Tasca Senior “my father would have loved the whole idea of electric vehicle technology, he was always looking two steps ahead of everyone else, he was always asking what we could do to make the product even better”.

Carl Tasca Senior described his father as similar to a master chess player, “My father was a strategist; he was always planning his next move. In this business and in life if you are REACTIVE, you lose. My father was PROACTIVE, constantly asking what we could do to improve”. Carl went on to say that with electric vehicle technology constantly evolving it is absolutely vital to stay up to date on product knowledge, technical training, and most importantly employee safety. Carl was adamant in stressing that “employee safety is our biggest

concern when it comes to working on any vehicle. These people have their own lives and families and it is our responsibility to get them the training and support they need to perform their jobs properly”. He went on to say what an exciting time this is in the automotive business and that it’s going to be very interesting to watch the progression. But if looked at with a positive attitude, it will also be a lot of fun. So of course, with that cue, I had to guide the conversation straight into drag racing.

Carl cracked a smile when I brought up drag racing because it reminds him so much of his father. It’s what Bob Senior did, it was who he was, and his passion was infectious. Carl enthusiastically remembers watching his legendary nephew Bob Tasca 3rd set the World Record in Norwalk with an elapsed time of 8.12 @ 171.97mph in the all-elec tric Cobra Jet 1400. He recalls the feeling of pride

did it again, we put the Tasca name on top of the World again”. And the icing on the cake was that TASCA was on top of the electric vehicle world in Bob Tasca Senior’s own baby, THE COBRA JET.

Once again, we thank our friend Bob Tasca Senior for his contributions to Ford Motor Company, the sport of drag racing, and the state of Rhode Island. May God Bless you and your family for many more generations to come.

Both Rhode Island and Massachusetts are “employment-at-will” states. That means, unless the employee has an employment contract or is protected by a collective bargaining agreement, legally the employer can fire the worker at any time and for any reason, as long as the employer’s reason is not in violation of some other law. Luckily for employees, there is a long list of exceptions to this at-will rule.

An employer cannot mistreat (demote, fire, etc.) an employee because they took leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or because they serve in the National Guard. An employer cannot punish an employee for complaining about harassment or discrimination or because the employee missed work because of jury duty. These are just a few of the many protections that all employees have, and if the employer violates those laws, the employee can sue and recover money.

“Whistle-blower” claims are one exception to the at-will rule, and they are often misunderstood. Whistle-blower laws protect employees who have complained that the employer, or someone working for the employer, is engaged in actions that violate federal, state or local laws or regulations. These laws also protect employees who have been asked to assist in a government investigation of the employer. So, if the police, or OSHA, or the Department of Labor asks an employee to provide evidence relating to an investigation of the employer, the employee is protected.

Important things to remember about whistle-blower claims:

• Whistle-blower laws don’t just protect employees who have been wrongfully terminated. If the employer demotes employees or denies them benefits because they reported a potential crime or participated in an investigation, those employees have a claim.

• The employee does not have to know what law is being violated by the employer at the time he or she makes the complaint. If the employee has a reasonable, good faith belief that the employer is violating some law, there is a potential claim.

• The most important evidence to support a claim – being able to show that the employer’s justification for its actions is false. For example, if the employer claims that the employee was demoted for using a cell phone at work and there is evidence that other employees are allowed to use their phones without punishment, that indicates that the employer may be lying to conceal its true motives.

One final benefit of whistle-blower laws – most of them allow employees to recover significant damages and attorneys’ fees if successful at trial.

50 YEARS OF ’73 CATS

Happy New Year! Time to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the 1973 Mercury Cats! They represent the final year of the 3rd Generation Cats (1971 – 1973) before they shared a chassis with the larger Mercury Montego and Ford Torino. 1973 was also the last time Cougars shared the barn with Mustangs. In 1974, Mustangs became a Pinto while Cougars teamed up with Thunderbirds maintaining their sport / luxury heritage. Note: while both Mustangs and Cougars continued in 1974, Dodge Challenger, Plymouth Barracuda, and AMC Javelin ended. 1973 marked the end of the pony car era. Therefore, ’73 Cougars are becoming quite collectible. Special important fact, vinyl topped (over hard metal roofs) Cougars continued for decades; however, Mercury building Convertible Cats also ended in 1973. Not only was ’73 the last of the convertible Cats, it was also the year of the last Ford convertible (until 1983 which happens to be another anniversary year in 2023).

Throughout the production of these third generation Cats, Mercury established nods to the original Cats. These are still apparent.

Two door rear wheel sedans are obvious, but not unique at all. Long hoods covered three V8 options include 351 Windsor, 351 Cleveland, and the big 429. XR-7 emblems adorn multiple areas including center of grille and side sail panels. The “Running Cat” logo is also found at the center of the steering wheel. There were more XR-7 editions

sold than the standard model (for the second year in row). In general, 1973 reflected minor changes over previous 3rd gen models (such as updates to the grille and taillights which retained the sequential turn signals). A federally mandated changed the bumper to a 5 MPH hit version.

Mercury offered an unique option that was only available on the standard hardtop ’73 model line named “The Bronze Age.” This package added a Laguno grain Metallic Bronze vinyl roof to the Saddle Bronze exterior paint (or contrary to the name, one of the six other paint colors). Inside this choice included its own seat upholstery design, door trim, headliner, floor covering, package tray, instrument panel and steering wheel which were all Tan.

Just over 2,000 of these Bronze Cats were produced making them highly desirable to add to your museum.

Speaking of museums, a few 1973 Mercury Cougar items were produced. Sadly, 1973 is last of the MPC Mercury Cougar models. Their annual NASCAR line offered a ’73 Cat in racing or stock form. MOTORHEAD NEW YEAR

Well, another year has passed and a New Year is now underway for all of us “Motorheads” out there. The past few years have been very difficult and trying for many of us automotive enthusiasts. This past year has been tough on us, especially after surviving a two-year-lockdown for the most part due to the Covid pandemic from March of 2020 thru March of 2022. We have endured a lot this past year with soaring gas prices, oil prices and the cost of groceries and utilities but we manage to overcome those obstacles and continue to move ahead regardless of what is thrown at us.

2023 should see those costs and expenses moderate during the upcoming year with lower gas prices to start the year in the first quarter with slightly higher gas prices once again Memorial Day Weekend and throughout the summer months. Why they choose to pick on us at the gas pumps during the summer months is still surprising to me. That’s our busiest time of year.

Area classic car and truck shows along with cruise nights begin in the month of April and continue until the end of October ever year here in New England. In

fact, the Motorhead Magazine Monthly Car Show Calendar of Events Page starts publishing in the month of March 2023 issue. It continues every month until our September issue. It happens to be one of our most popular pages with our readers and offers a great resource of information, dates, locations and times for these popular automotive events across the region.

DAILY DRIVER ENHANCEMENTS!

Many Motorhead readers may not have a classic muscle car or street rod…unfortunately many of us drive everyday boring fuel efficient cars. My personal daily driver is a 2017 Chevrolet Sonic Premier RS, this vehicle is equipped with a 1.4L Turbo 4 cylinder engine with a 6 speed automatic. The factory flywheel rated hp is 138hp @ 4900 rpm and 148ftlbs at 1850 rpm. EPA fuel economy rating of 27 city and 36 highway, so this is truly an economy car.

Most of us drive similar type vehicles daily and many of us suffer from the weak performance envelope of these vehicles. The good news is for very little money you can enhance the performance of these and other small 4 cylinder turbo motors easily with a few upgrades. The first upgrade I did to my Sonic was to add a K&N Typhoon Intake System. This simple bolt on kit requires removal of the stock restrictive intake system. It takes about 20-30 minutes to install and provides a decent increase in hp and torque throughout the entire rpm range. My stock Sonic produced an anemic 113 FWHP @ 5100 rpm and 123 FWTQ @ 3600 rpm on my Dynojet 224X…definitely weak power numbers. I swapped in the K&N Air Intake System and gained a decent amount of power and torque. The K&N Intake System produced 127 FWHP @ 5100 and 131 FWTQ @ 5000 rpm. This simple and completely reversible install gained about 11% more HP and 7% more torque throughout the engine’s rpm range. (See Dyno Graph 1)

I drove the car for a while like that and then decided to custom tune the Sonic’s 1.4L Turbo. I generally run 93 Octane in all my cars. I never tested the Sonic on 87 Octane but I would assume the power numbers would be slightly lower. The factory boost level is around 10-12 PSI depending on weather conditions and being a boosted motor you should run 93 Octane to get the best performance possible. I adjusted the tune to achieve around 14-16 PSI maximum. In testing, I found any more boost didn’t yield any beneficial power and actually hurt power a little. One issue is the stock turbo is way to small to fill the cylinders past 6000 rpm. We were able to hold power, but not gain any over peak numbers. The real story of the tune and what transforms a basic daily driver into a fun economy car is the low rpm torque production over the stock tune. Massive 25-30 FWTQ gains from 2000 rpm to about 4500 rpm range. This is the area of the curve that most people use everyday merging into traffic and makes this economy car feel strong and responsive compared to stock. The custom tuned Sonic produced a peak of 126 FWHP at 5300 rpm and

Former Angie’s List CEO Bill Oesterle has won a $7.2 million lawsuit against a boutique mechanic in Iowa that faked the authenticity of a vintage sports car he purchased and overcharged him for service work on multiple rare vehicles.

Oesterle, an entrepreneur and self-described avid classic car collector, took The Healey Werks Corp. and its owner, Craig Hillinger, to court in Iowa in 2020. His lawsuit claims Hillinger pocketed hundreds of thousands of dollars through deceptive act after deceptive act during their 10-year-plus relationship.

It started in 2010 when Oesterle sent a 1967 Maserati Ghibli, purchased for $16,000, to Hillinger for restoration work. Hillinger told Oesterle the work would finish in one to two years and cost no more than $200,000, according to the lawsuit. Four years later, the job still hadn’t been completed, and Hillinger invoiced Oesterle for just over $1 million, the complaint states.

Hillinger was also accused of carrying out complete restorations on cars even though Oesterle only asked for smaller projects or declined service work entirely. The hefty bills that followed included charges for incomplete labor or

In one instance, Hillinger convinced Oesterle to go in on a purchase with him of an Austin-Healey 100M sports car. Hillinger told Oesterle, who gave $50,000 for the car, that it was a coveted factory model but needed some assembly, according to the complaint. It stayed with Hillinger until 2021. When Oesterle finally received the vehicle, he “discovered that the 100M was not a factory 100M as Hillinger had promised,” the lawsuit states.

“Hillinger told Bill the 100M would cost approximately $10,000 to assemble and sent Bill an invoice for over $130,000,” according to the complaint. “The 100M was never assembled.”

In November Iowa District Court Judge James N. Daane found that Healey Werks Corp. committed fraud against Oesterle and violated the state’s motor vehicle services trade law.

“I want others in the classic car community to be aware of this situation,” Oesterle said in a prepared statement.

“It’s a difficult process to find authentic parts and materials, and to find credible people with the expertise to properly restore these beautiful machines,” he added. “Often that means you have to trust people across the country, or even the world, to deliver on what they say they

have and what they can do. I would hate to know other collectors have been treated this way.”

Daane found that Oesterle suffered damages of $2.4 million, but the award was tripled in line with the state’s motor vehicle services trade law because of the “willful and wanton disregard” for Oesterle’s rights. On top of the $7.2 million judgment, Healey Werks also has to pay Oesterle court costs and attorneys’ fees.

Hillinger had filed for bankruptcy protection, which delayed court proceedings against him. But Healey Werks itself was still exposed because it hadn’t filed for bankruptcy, so Daane allowed Oesterle’s suit against the company to go to trial in early November.

GARY’S 1923 FORD T-BUCKET KIT CAR READERS RIDES

This awesome 1923 Ford T-Bucket Kit Car is owned by Gary Maddocks Jr. from Johnston, Rhode Island. Gary is also the president of the Johnston Street Machines Classic Car & Hot Rod Club. Gary is proud to own this hot rod kit car. It is just one vehicle in his collection of cool street machines.

The T-Bucket is named “JT” after John Tomasso of JT’s Auto Service located in the town of Johnston, RI. “JT” built the motor and also installed a Weiand’s 671 Supercharger blower with the dominating red terror eyes on top of a small block 350 engine with a mild cam. “JT” built and owns the famous “Double Nickel” 1955 Chevy. This car is considered to be one of the fastest drag cars in the Smithfield and Johnston communities.

Gary’s ‘23 Ford has an electric Ahooga horn and a Hollywood wolf whistle attached to the blower assembly. A 9-inch Ford rear end gets the job done on any blacktop surface. This hot rod is a fiberglass kit car from Speedway Motors. Mickey Thompson ET Street Drag Radial P29565 R15’s with deep dish moon wheels gives this ride that old school hot rod appearance.

see this Johnston Street Machine cruisin’ down city streets, backroads and highways across New England. To help maintain that old school nostalgia look and appearance Gary opted to keep his hot rod primer gray. Dual 650 Edelbrock carburetors rest on top of this power plant small block motor. This cool 1923 Ford T-Bucket Kit Car also features front wheel line locks and chrome side pipes with fiberglass baffles.

Gary cruises to area car shows and cruise nights across the area and plans on hosting a couple of these automotive events with friends of his in the state of Rhode Island during the upcoming summer car show and cruise night season in 2023. Watch for this Readers Ride. It’s a one-of-a-kind and very impressive hot rod indeed.

55 YEARS OF ’68 CATS

Time to celebrate the 55th Anniversary of the 1968 Mercury Cats! They represent the final year of the 1st Generation Cats (1967 – 1968). While carrying on the 1967 Cougar theme and looks, multiple new options were available in 1968.

Mercury offered similar colors in ’67 from the prior year. However, some paint schemes were deleted and changed. One critical color example is a key driver to the entire May Cougar history. “V” color code, Cinnamon Frost, caught Gary May’s eye in 1967. Sadly, this color (as well as others in the Motor Trend Car of the year paint line) was dropped in 1968. New to ’68, “Y” color code, Grecian Gold, arrived. It was this color that shined on the Gary’s first Cat and now adorns his 2nd ’68 Cougar. (The first one was special ordered with matching Gold interior with Black vinyl top (and the turbine hubcaps initially offered in the 1967 Dan Gurney package).

Engine choices in ’68 were revised. (1967

only had two engine sizes – 289 and 390). 302’s arrival meant the replacement of the 289 as a new base engine. J code, 302-4v, became a popular under hood option. Next in size order, the 390 carried over from the previous year as the GT motor (and option-

al otherwise). Now we move to the most sought out engines…427 and 428. For one year only, the GT-E model appeared (sadly less than 400 produced). Reflecting its racing heritage, the 427, 7.0 Liter, was squeezed between the shock towers. Horsepower

advertised was grossly underrated for the side oiler. Mid-Year in 1968, the 428 Cobra Jet replaced the 427 in the GT-E and was available in other models too. (Besides the 427 / 428, the GT-E package included notable items such as a special hood scoop, horizontal lines on the front grill, and contrasting second color paint along the lower body lines).

Federal mandated change easily identifies ‘68 versus a ‘67 – side marker light on the front fenders. The shoulder belts on a ‘68

were, in fact, meant to be used. They were part of the mandated safety improvements required for the 1968 model year, along with things like a collapsible steering column and steering wheel impact protection (the reason the ‘68 has the big center pad instead of the ‘67 3-spoke design).

Race car driver, Dan Gurney, is well known in the Cougar world (thanks to his 1967 Trans Am Series Mercury Cougar racing fame). The “Dan Gurney Special” packages carried over to 1968; however, this was now only available on the standard Cats as well as only being a sticker and wheel covers package (engine dress code no longer available). Dan Gurney was further directly reflected in a 1968 only package called “XR7-G”. 302 was base with 390 and 428 both optional for these Cats. Just over 600 were made. XR7-G medallions on the front grille and side sail panels were displayed proudly. The XR7-G label can be found on the transmission lever, dash panel, and wheel caps. They shared hood scoops with the GT-E. Most had sunroofs. Special editions are highly collectible and desired. Overall, any full scale 1968 Cougar would make a fantastic addition to your museum.

Speaking of museums, plenty of 1968 Mercury Cougar items were produced and continue to be manufactured. Due to the volume of ’68 Cat collectibles, we will publish a separate article on this topic in a future issue. (An entire article should include Gold 1968 Cougar miniatures).

COOOOL late fifties/early sixties badass gasser implies at first sight a “don’t mess with me” unless... you’re feeling really lucky today. The stance, the look of the body’s configuration with the Mags and slicks let you know upon first sight the blown Caddy is ready for any task at hand that arises.

This wild concept was the brain child of two lovely young sisters, Dawn Viara and Stacey Stavolone, who mentioned to their dad, Manny Viara, one afternoon while driving home from a cruise night, stating “Dad, I think we need a car of our own to cruise with

you, but we have some specific ideas of what we want it to be. Can you help with the construction of a ‘41 Willys gasser with a late fifties, early sixties nostalgia look and function as well?” Now dad gives them both the “Viara eyeroll”, but in less than five seconds knows he is going to build this father/ daughters bonding project, due to his love for that gasser era and his devoted love for his family. So, the abundance of racecar/hot rod parts in all the Viara stashed areas are searched out and discussed with various combinations of driveline components, suspensions, engines, superchargers, belt drives, interior components, including custom dashboard possibilities, with a vast array of combinations surfacing before the final plan was agreed upon and construction began. The Willys coupe body was acquired from a friend as a roller project that never came to completion. Three visits and numerous conversations resulted in a deal to be struck, with the

body and chassis transported home.

Now with a .040 over Caddy 444 cubic inch 6-71 blown engine, this vehicle has instant throttle response with it’s Clay Smith solid lifter cam and cylinder heads modified extensively by Nat’s Racing Engines. The Cad Company solid rocker shafts and roller rocker arms complete the valvetrain. This torque all comes together and is transmitted to a Turbo 400 Manny Viara modified transmission, which in turn connects to a 9” Ford 3:50 ring and pinion mounted on a traction lock carrier, which lights the 10” period correct hard wall slicks.

The custom ‘53 Cadillac dashboard cannot be described in words, due to the compound shapes formed by Mr. Viara himself, along with the detail that enhances all the instrumentation, which is very pleasing to any eye. The noted Ray Tkacs did the knockout interior. Custom tail lights finalize the body’s rear section with Viara built ‘53 Pontiac tail lights and Monte Carlo wheel center caps machined to

fit both the lights and body. This badass ‘41 really does the cruising and sustains it’s image on any given day, but mostly satisfies the Viara sisters knowing they constructed their dream with their dad, with the results originally planned now a reality.

The Honda Z50RD, also known as the Christmas Special or the Chrome Edition, is an all-chrome Honda Z series minibike released in 1986. A limited edition of the Honda Z50R, it is considered to be rare.

The Z50RD has the same specifications as the 1986 Honda Z50R: a 49 cc single-piston engine, three-speed transmission, and drum brakes.

The distinguishing feature of the Z50RD is that most of its visible parts—including the fuel tank, fenders, exhaust, forks, frame, wheels, and handlebars—are chromed. The wheel hubs, and the parts of the motor that are not chromed, are polished and clear-coated.

The Z50RD received the nicknames “Christmas Special”—because it was shipped in December 1986, and had a decal on its fuel tank reading “Special”—and “Chrome Edition”, after its extensive use of chrome. Before the calendar turns to 2023, JDV Productions has a few more exciting announcements remaining for fans before the holidays. Today, JDV officially announced a four-race NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule for the new season, and also announced the renewal of the Whelen Granite State Short Track Cup in a multi-year agreement with Whelen Engineering.

The 2023 JDV season will begin at Monadnock Speedway with Duel at the Dog weekend from Friday, May 5 through Sunday, May 7. Friday will be an optional practice day for Monadnock house divisions, while the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will have a one-day show on Saturday, May 6. On Sunday, the NHSTRA Modifieds and additional Monadnock house divisions will headline the action.

Lee USA Speedway will be up next for the second running of the Granite State Derby on Saturday, May 27. The 175-lap main event on Memorial Day weekend moves from Jennerstown Speedway to Lee.

JDV Productions will also bring the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour back to Claremont Motorsports Park on Saturday, July 29. The inaugural Clash at Claremont, which took place on a Friday last season, moves to Saturday with select house divisions from the track set to be involved in the show. The JDV NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season will conclude right back at Monadnock on Saturday, September 9 with the debut of the Winchester Fair. This event will include a 200-lap NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race and Monadnock house divisions with a special flavor of Fair events for fans. Full event cards will be released for all four shows in the upcoming weeks.

excited to branch to four events for the 2023 season with the Whelen Modified Tour after what we feel was one of the best seasons yet for JDV Productions in 2022,” Josh Vanada, owner of JDV Productions, said. “Two events on the high-banks of Monadnock, one with a full weekend of racing and one with the Fair idea behind it will be great for the fans. Both Lee and Claremont produce different types of exciting racing and both put on a great

Along with the date announcements, JDV also announced the return of the Whelen Granite State Short Track Cup in a multi-year agreement with Whelen Engineering. The Granite State Short Track Cup will continue to be a three-race series, with the champion crowned at Claremont in July, showcasing the top stars of Modified racing both on the Tour and at a local level – as select house Modified drivers at Monadnock, Lee and Claremont will again compete in the races. The Whelen Granite State Short Track Cup paid out over $10,000 in bonus awards from the 2022 season and will again have special awards and a point fund for the top three finishers in the standings. Exact details will be announced at a later date. In 2022, Matt Hirschman won the crown by just a few points.

Norm turned the driving job over to his youngest son Trevor, this year. Well, I got to tell you so far, he won on 6/12/2022, 6/26/2022 and 8/20/2022 in the 10.50 class, and I don’t see this stopping anytime soon. When Trevor won both of his races I was there. I will tell you I saw a young man wearing his heart on his sleeve and the emotion pouring out of him, when he looked up to the sky and said, “This one is for you Grandma”. Being there was one of the moments in life that you just never forget. I was a lucky man to be able to see and feel this. The second was bittersweet and even more, the emotions and tears came for everyone. Unfortunately, I had to leave after the first round for the 8/20/2022 race. I knew if Trevor won the first round, he was going to win it all.

Justin is the oldest son, and he is the crew chief at Agent Orange. Norm is no longer the owner of the car. Jaxon (who is 8 years old) is

the new owner of this 1981 AMC Spirt. Jaxon is Norm’s grandson and to say he is excited to be the new owner of the car would be an understatement. They did not finish number one liked they wished they would. Unfortunately, the AMC motor of 13 years of hard racing finally broke the front section of the crank right off. Unfortunately, the block could not be saved but a new bullet is already in the garage and being built as you read this. They say it comes in three’s and unfortunately it did for the family. Their 12-year-old family dog Bruschi has some health issues.

This family does everything 100 percent all in. Blood, sweat and tears. They come as a family, win as a family and lose as a family. The jumps for joy with winning three races in one year, the tears of winning, the agony of defeat, losing the motor in the first round on the third to last race, and most important the passing of Jeanette. This will not stop this family, in fact they will become stronger, more determined, and more passionate, if that is even possible.

To be able to write this was my honor. To be a part of the racing family and see and feel what I have felt is like hitting Megabucks to me. I can’t describe the feeling and reward to see and feel what I feel when I do. I see the tears and I can’t help but feel their passion they are showing me. They let me into their hearts, worn on their sleeve, and I am just one lucky man to feel their emotions. We jump up for joy and we cry together, the pictures save that one moment in time. When writing these stories, it just solidifies why I

keep doing it. The memories, the people’s faces, and the emotions just make me feel good as a person. God knows we don’t make money doing it. To feature a family or person and their car with a short story in a magizine is priceless to them. Just pay it forward and give back. It does not cost you anything to be a good person. FUN AT THE FARM

Motorhead Magazine attended the Amore family’s Goldenrod Farm November 6th, a get together with a lot of friends and lots of cool rides.

It is January and we are a few weeks into the winter season. This would suggest, that many of you reading this article right now are spending quite a bit of time inside your shops, garages and man caves during the cold weather season. I know that I am.

These get away places are extremely important to many of us when we cannot be out-and-about cruising around in our hot rods, classic cars and trucks, antique vehicles and muscle cars like we do when the weather finally breaks in late March and early April for springtime and the beginning of the car show and cruise night season.

Over the next few months, I would like to focus on some feature articles related to this article’s title and add your shop, garage and man cave in an upcoming issue of Motorhead Magazine. This concept was actually conceived by a reader that reached out to me asking if I could write an article about his garage and another reader asking if I could feature his man cave in the magazine over the next few months. After thinking about

this idea, I told them both, that if they could send me some photos and information about what makes their shop, garage and man cave special to them I could write those articles in the next couple of months for them and our readers.

I’d also like to reach out to anyone reading this article to do the same exact thing and send me photos and information about their automotive safe spaces and I would consider writing an article for you as well.

Shops, garages and man caves are very interesting to me and we all have our own decorative styles and influences that defines us and separates us from everyone else. The photo above actually shows me at one of my best friends, Dennis’, shop and garage outside of his home, illustrating one of his classic cars for him to frame and display on his wall. I have created many automotive illustrations for him over the past 40 years.

If response is good and more readers send me their photos and information about their spaces then this could become a regular feature article series

published in this magazine for everyone to read and enjoy. It might even help stimulate our creative minds allowing us to take ideas and make them a part of our own personal automotive passion.

Little Man on a Mission

back to this little man, what else do you need to say. When you see this little man, you will understand. This just made my day to see the future of Drag Racing. Christopher made me smile every time I walked by. So, what do you do, you ask if he can make a 60 ft pass? Well as you can see, Christopher did it in style and nailed the tree with a .010 light to boot. What you don’t see is that Christopher loves taking the lugs nuts off the cars. He just focuses on the wheels and loves the noise it makes. When Papa’s car is broken or one

of the cars are broke, he puts on the sad face until it gets fixed and running. It’s a family joke but not to Christopher.

CJ’S father, mother, grandfather, and uncles all have their own race cars that CJ helps take very good car of! He helps wash them and fix them! His favorite job is to put the lug nuts on the car. CJ even has a car of his own, his little red Camaro! He learned to drive his big wheels before he learned to walk! Following in his families’ footsteps he got to make his first pass in his Camaro down the New England Dragway! Christopher’s family hopes that his passion for racing stays with him through the years. They hope being a part of the racing world will open doors and offer amazing opportunities for him! Did I mention he is only 1.5 years old. I can’t wait to see the future of this little Motorhead.

What I can tell you is that Christopher was just enjoying the drive that Grand Papa was giving him in the pits during a rental day. The Camaro is remote controlled and has bluetooth and is loaded with just about everything. Christopher was just soaking it all in and having a blast when Paul Valente (Grand Papa) was running his mint silver Camaro in the test section. Christopher loves to watch Papa go down the track. Ana Valente (Grand Ma) always makes sure the family is eating like the royal family. This lady cooks enough for 30 people. Christopher loves to drive and snack at the same time. When the family goes back to the pits, Christopher starts to wipe the car down. When you’re walking around the track and you just keep going

A recent nationwide survey suggests that nearly 90% of Americans believe in ghosts and paranormal activities happening in locations, buildings, abandoned structures and even our own homes. What about hot rods, classic vehicles, antiques and muscle cars?

Ghost hunters and paranormal investigators are everywhere around the United States and worldwide, including right here with the T.A.P.S. Team located in Warwick, Rhode Island. They have a popular television series called; GHOST HUNTERS. I’m a fan of this show and never miss an episode. Television shows such as Ghost Adventures, Destination Fear, Paranormal Caught on Camera and many more just like them, are continuously aired on our TV sets every day of the week. The viewing audience

paranormal investigation programs are appearing on television sets globally.

If those locations and buildings can be haunted, then why not vehicles too? Attending more than 100 car shows and cruise nights annually here across the region I hear a lot of creepy stories about specific show vehicles told to me by their current owners. In my opinion; Haunted Hot Rods is a topic overlooked by ghost hunters and paranormal investigators. These vehicles had previous owners that more than likely have passed away but still love their rides even after death.

So, why not ghostly and spooky apparitions or weird occurrences involving these particular vehicles? I hear their current owner’s creepy ghost stories because everyone knows I’m all about cars and trucks and everything about them is of interest to me. I’m actually hosting Haunted Hot Rods Car Shows and Cruise Nights this year at spooky locations with classic vehicles on display that are possibly haunted by ghosts of previous owners now still attached to the rides that they once loved to cruise in around New England when they were alive.

Etch pulls forward in his illegally driven OUTLAW GTO advancing slowly behind the vehicles in front of him attempting to leave the crash scene. A state trooper is directing tra c and pauses once he sees the headlights of a vehicle that he suspects is not street legal. He also thinks that this particular vehicle may also be the same vehicle every police department across the region has been trying to catch and arrest the driver. The vehicles in front of Etch are pulling away from the scene on a now open road headed away from the crash scene cleanup. The state trooper approaches the GTO and looks inside the driver side window. Etch looks ahead of him and sees the last set of remaining taillights from the vehicle that was

recently right in front of him and turns his head and smiles at the state trooper. Etch points his left hand index nger towards his windshield. The confused state trooper looks in the same direction Etch is pointing and sees that all of the vehicles that were once in a straight line moving very slowly following his guidance are now gone from the crash scene and looks back at Etch. Etch smiles again, waves his left hand at the state trooper gesturing that he’s leaving, grabs the steering wheel while matting the gas pedal to the oorboard, launching the power plant Pontiac away from the crash scene at a high rate of speed. The state trooper runs to his cruiser and radios dispatch and nearby cruisers informing them

the current location and possible travel direction of the wanted outlaw they have been trying to catch for quite awhile without success. Etch knows that he will soon be in a high pursuit situation again realizing that the state trooper is obviously now in radio communications with other area state troopers telling them his location and where he is more than likely headed. The OUTLAW GTO ramps up speed as the shocked state trooper watches the taillights disappear into the darkness.
