DAVE McCLAIN New England Dragway opened back up a few weeks back and everyone has been patiently waiting to test out their winter mods. Several local racer decided to buy new drag radials for their cars. Obviously, tires are a simple bolt on mod. On most high powered cars such as a Camaro ZL1, the factory tires are a blend for overall handling and grip. They really weren’t designed for drag racing. Over the weekend, few of my buddies went Drag Racing to test their new set ups. Louie Cicerone bolted on a set of Mickey Thomson ET Street Drag Radials. The new tires are an exact fit for the rear tires with a P305/35/ R20. These are an all a new thread design and compound designed for a dual purpose street/strip performance. The tires are a drag strip ready radial designed with a proven drag racing compound. A few days before Lou headed to the track, I personally took his Camaro ZL1 for a test drive and pushed this new compound to the limits on the street. Just driving around and rolling into the throttle hard, I couldn’t get the car to blow sides ways with these new tires. That was with the traction control shut off on a cool 45 degree night. Louie’s ZL1 is mildly modified with a cold air intake and still has the stock ECM calibration. They didn’t have the corner carving ability of the stock Goodyear Supercar tires, but they really aren’t designed for ultimate grip in the turns. These tires are not recommended for cold climates or bad weather conditions. Use caution and reduce speed in a major rain storm. Lou’s personal best with the stock tires was a 12.4 @ 116 mph. That’s about average for a stock ZL1. Lou’s best with the new Mickeys was an 11.9 @ 119 mph. Lou was able to pick up a solid 5 tenths of a second and the car was running a little more consistently throughout the day. Quality drag race tires like these aren’t cheap, they retail around $380 a piece. If used mostly on the drag strip they should last you a few seasons with proper storage. Mickey Thompson has several sizes available for most modern muscle cars. I’m still a little skeptical, but I’m sure they can help tame my Camaro’s tail happiness. Maybe my buddy Louie while let me bolt these on my Camaro one night… Precision Dyno is a completely independent dyno testing facility. We offer Custom Cams, Ported Cylinder Heads, Supercharger & Turbocharger installation packages for GM LSX powered vehicles. We specialize in GM tuning with EFILive tuning software. The List: How bad is your bad azz street car?
TOM McCARTHY
Started on Wednesday night, April 27, 2016 and running every Wednesday night throughout the season, New England Dragway will be hosting racers with their street cars looking for a spot on “The List.” What exactly is the list you ponder? It’s a running list of the quickest, baddest street type drag cars in New England. The List is a top ten accounting of street legal, registered, inspected street cars with a decided drag-car type attitude, who wish to race on the drag strip and see who’s got the quickest, baddest street type car. There’s no purse from the track, no trophies; this is about bragging rights and respect within the street type drag-car community.
driver. Heads up racing, no-prep, instant green, no score boards, no time slips, and first car to the stripe at 1/8th mile wins.
“The List” is a list of the ten quickest street legal cars that match race at NED with the score boards turned off. To call out or enter The List, a contestant must have a valid, street legal car that is registered and inspected. Cars driven to the track are valid in Super Street. Cars that meet the class specifications for Outlaw Street can be trailered to the track. Being street legal includes: DOT tires, mufflers, in street legal trim as inspected by the DMV.

“Call outs” are fast cats looking to nudge into a spot on “The List.” All newcomers start at the bottom by calling out #10 and once that position is earned, a racer can “call out” up to two places above to advance up The List. There are more rules, but these were the basics at the inception of The List. The BEAST George Shepherd’s Blown Coyote 5.0 ED YESSAIAN In 2011 Ford rocked the Mustang world with the return of the famous 5.0 nameplate. For as long as I can remember, that was the most iconic emblem to ever dress the fenders of any muscle car ever. But it wasn’t, by any means just a marketing ploy to run up sales numbers, it was truly a game changing power-plant that showed up and slapped around Camaros on both the street and strip. Originally boasting 412hp in 2011-2012, it gained a few more ponies for 2013-14, up to an impressive 420hp. For most people that’s a handful in itself, so why would anyone need more?? Because we’re MOTORHEADS, that’s why!! And that’s exactly the reason why George Shepherd tore into his 2014 GT Premium, to create the monster you see here, called the BEAST. When I first saw George’s GT at Performance Dyno’s Fall Dyno day, I was blown away. It was everything I wanted to do to my 2013 GT and then some. The first thing that grabs your attention on the car is the Shelby Super Snake style hood. It was the exact same hood I wanted when I had my 2013 and it

gives the front of the car a completely new personality. From there, the other visual cues that make this car stand out are the Shelby Razor wheels, and the PAINTED on, over the top stripes. Anyone who has ever worked in a body shop can tell you that the time and expense to lay down painted stripes scares off a lot of people. But George went all out, he did it the right way, and his choice of contrasting color makes the car look incredible. But trust me, this car is NOT, all show and no GO!! Popping the Super Snake hood, you know immediately that this car is far from factory stock. A Ford Racing/Whipple twin-screw stare you in the face immediately and a JLT cold-air kit resides off to the side of the blower. 47lb injectors make sure the car is fed adequately and a final tune produces 575rwhp. The stock transmission is topped off with a Steeda Tri-ax to reduce the throw and perform crisp and positive shifts. The car is an absolutely animal from a dead stop, with help from FRPP 3.73 gears, but it can also carve up corners with ease. Eibach springs were swapped in to all four corners and Steeda control arms helped reduce wheel hop. A BMR adjustable panhard bar finishes off the rear, while Brembo brakes peek out from behind the front wheels. Just sitting still, the BEAST intimidates far lesser cars with ease, but when George turns the key and the Flowmasters growl, you just see heads turning, as people have to get a look at this immaculate Monster. My most recent encounter with George was at Boston’s World of Wheels where the car won 1st place in its class, which was certainly no surprise. As car show season approaches you can bet that George and the BEAST will be collecting a lot more trophies and deservedly so. Hopefully we’ll run across him at a few shows, cause this car is truly one of my favorites!!

LOONIEVILLE SWAMPERS:
OFF-ROAD ORIGINS Lauryn “Hotwheels” Pontiac-Vernancio
It’s not often that we find a group that is dedicated to not only aggressive trail riding, but also the environment. This month we have successfully discovered just that! Enter Day Bonollo, who is the original founder of a regional group called “LoOnie Ville Swampers” that was mentioned to me by Kayla “Mudbutt” Auger who is an avid off-road enthusiast. After speaking with him, I made the decision to attend one of their Rhode Island meets with having no idea what I was getting into. Upon pulling in the driveway at the end of a spacious back road in Chepachet, I could see the passion that these individuals shared with one another regarding the complete 4 by 4 experience. I saw many modded Mopars, and even a glimpse of a GM, which is my own heritaged favorite. I was greeted abruptly by the group and offered pizza and a fire sit down to discuss the history and future plans of the crew. Members were broken down as follows, the original founder, Day Bonollo, Vice President Chris Gaudette, and Treasurer Sean Fuller), regional members, and of course families were included as well. Monthly dues were collected by an elected treasurer and raised funds for meeting supplies and donations towards local charities. They identify themselves as a nonprofit organization that strives in helping others through the use of their own passion. Their name actually came from the location of the original founding which occurred in Woonsocket, or as local would call it “Woonie Ville” hence the dubbing of “LoOnie Ville Swampers” which 16| Motorhead Magazine - May 2016

would ultimately rhyme and obviously the swampers portion is defined by their off-roading capabilities. The members are heavily involved in helping each other out in maintaining each other’s vehicles as well as introducing modifications. The group is also entitled to hold 4 by 4 adventures on legal grounds which is also covered by the monthly dues, and during their trail riding they also do something completely different which was a general surprise to most viewers. Instead of wrecking the trails and dumping bottles and trash as most would do, this group has developed a sense of conservationism and will pick up any garbage that they can fit along the way while kicking up mud. They actually took it upon themselves to have a meet on Earth Day and dedicated their time to taking truck loads of trash off of our forest’s trails. It was a pleasure to meet the team and I definitely plan to travel on future endeavors with this wonderful crew who not only shows pride in their rigs, but also shows care in helping create a better environment along the way. If you would like information on joining this group in further promotions, please contact Day Bonollo on Facebook, and check out their group “LoOnie Ville Swampers Offroad Club” or “LoOnie Ville Swampers Inc”.

GREG PELLEGRINO’S CLASSIC FE TYPE ‘65 DAYTONA COUPE JIM WEICHERDING
Photography by Dominic Casserly Vintage Motor Sports: Big Block Classic FE Type ‘65 Daytona Coupe…. A Dream Realized. For Greg Pellegrino, building a Cobra had always been a goal and a dream. As a mechanic, a teacher of automotive technology and small business owner, Greg contemplated the purchase of the kit and build for years. Since his late teens, Greg has owned, raced and restored so many cars it is hard list – from frame off- matching number corvettes,
turbo Buicks, original muscle cars such as Superbirds and T/A Challengers to unique foreign restorations. The cobra build however had always been the dream car that would come in due timeuntil finally in 2003 -he began his journey. After numerous trips to Factory Five racing in Wareham, Massachusetts, Greg set his sights on the Type 65 Coupe. The details for Greg however were more complicated- he wanted a big block FE powered coupe- the best of both worlds- the hard yet curvaceous lines of the coupe yet with awesome power. He wanted a street legal car to drive to shows that he could track both on the drag strip and the road course. Dave of Factory Five said – “It’s never been done.”, but listened as Greg described his goal. He ordered a type 65 coupe with big block headers and decided to figure out the rest later. Figuring it out later: In the years to come Greg acquired parts as he engineered the idea in his mind. He and his crew at Vintage Motorsports in Holliston MA now had
to figure it out. The engine had to be aluminum to off -set the weight for handling purposes. Thus he researched and found a Dove Aluminum block 500 cubic inch big block FE that was built in part by Nat Chevettone of Nats Racing Engines in Swansea MA and Tasca’s legendary John Healey. That then lead to the need to build custom foot boxes and custom headers that were made by Tubular Automotive. He needed to acquire a transmission that could handle the horsepower – a Doug Nash 5 speed as well as big 6 piston Wilwood brakes to slow it down with the horsepower he was trying to achieve. Mike at Fortes Parts Connection of Framingham, worked with Greg to acquire the 8.8 Ford Motorsports rear end with Moser axles – again to handle the torque. The fact that Greg “wanted it all”, posed numerous engineering obstacles and this led him and his Vintage Motorsports build team into uncharted territory. The chassis build had to accommodate the specifications of these custom parts – thus this meticulous and detailed assembly and reworking of the chassis was completed with great effort. The theme seemed to be …we (WILL) make this work. Over the course of 8 years the parts were purchased as Greg balanced the build with the growth and financial demands of his new business and family life. The state imposed deadline – “It’s now or never.” In the late winter of 2011, Greg became aware of the changing Massachusetts emissions laws that would be impacting kits car builds. He pulled his team together and said, “It’s now or never.” If they did not meet the May 1 deadline, the dream would be over. They had five weeks….. They called in Ron Everitt to fit the doors and shipped the body to 290 Auto Body in Worcester. The owner, Justin took on the challenge and said not to worry – it will get done. The build team (and their families) braced for long days and longer nights of building the car that had never been built before. Greg brought in family members Jerry Pellegrino of European Performance Engineering, Deb Pellegrino for the interior design and Max Shahvari, Greg’s former student, along with Ned Dewees a Vintage Motorsports intern, for technical assistance. The weeks passed, every piece ended up needing modifications and nights stretched into days. Tired was a way of life and the team had to work together to solve technical issues at every turn. The car was completed on the morning of the last day of possible inspection
by the state and loaded into the trailer at 4:00am. Greg called home at 4:15 am and told his wife Pam – “Its loaded and I’m on my way.” After a thorough inspection by the state, it was approved to be registered. Mission accomplished! Greg and the proud Vintage Motorsports team set their sights for the coupe’s debut at Factory Five open house in early June. A week later, after the team caught up on some sleep, Greg drove the car to its final Massachusetts inspection. On the way home, a 10 cent fuel rail O ring ruptured and everything forward of the firewall burned. To build again? Still exhausted, mentally and physically from the build and devastated by the burn, the team came together again. Their resiliency shone through and they unanimously voted to rebuild it and it had to be in time for the Factory Five show. New obstacles stood in the way as the necessary parts had to be acquired. The original intake and induction system burned beyond repair and was not produced anymore thus Gary from Borla Inductions was called in. He took on the challenge and had an all new intake and induction system made especially for this project as the coupe offers special obstacles given the dimensional restraints of the low hood line. Once again, Justin was called upon to repair the damage in a tight deadline. Engineering elements again needed solutions – Greg, Jerry and Max pushed for yet another deadline. Long nights again pushed the build team to their limits.
On the morning of June 9th, the first ever Factory Five FE Cobra big block coupe drove into the entrance of the Factory Five open house, in Wareham, Massachusetts- boasting 564 dynoed rear wheel horsepower. It took best in class. To the onlookers, it was an awe inspiring sight. To those behind the scenes of the build, it was nothing short of a miracle. Dream realized. “Nothing is impossible if you apply the possible.” A small note of appreciation: For anyone whose passion is their livelihood and who has taken on special projects such as these – they know the sacrifices family makes – He gives special thanks to his wife Pam who always told him to never give up on his dream and to his children, Ethan and Hanna who certainly understand and know how hard their Dad works.

(508) 336-7125 Bill Loos, of Loos & Co. this popular car club has found a great home for their weekly car shows. Everyone involved with this organization is very dedicated and hard working putting the needs of the kids at the camp and those that attend their car shows first on the list of priorities. The Tri-State Cruisers began their long car show tradition in 1991 when they were holding their car shows and cruise nights at the former Reuben’s Deli on Providence Street with a group of about twenty show vehicles. As the club’s popularity grew, they moved to the Putnam, Ct. Department of Motor Vehicles parking lot and then from there went to the larger parking lot located behind the Jade Garden doing business on Kennedy Drive, also located in Putnam, Ct.

OLDSMOBILE DR
1968 Oldsmobile 442 Con By Joseph Stalaboin
was built in the GM Plant in Linden, NJ.
I always had the desire to own a true muscle car from the late 1960’s. During a conversation with a friend in 2012, I learned there may be a 1968 Oldsmobile 442 available for purchase not far from my home in Rhode Island. In 1968 the Oldsmobile 442 was one of the most popular muscle cars available. While researching this lead I found out it was owned by a family I knew. I stopped by their house to find a blue colored 442 sitting in a garage and it had been there for quite some time. I spoke to the owner who was willing to let it go and accepted my offer. The Oldsmobile did not run at the time and so after trailering it home I noticed in the door jamb it was originally yellow and also that someone had replaced the original 400 c.i. motor with a Buick 455 c.i. motor. The 1968 Oldsmobile 442 was a one year model and they produced 5,142 convertibles 400 c.i. that year with the Hydra-Matic transmission. After researching the VIN, I found the 442 28| Motorhead Magazine - May 2016
The frame off rebuild started November 29, 2012 and was completed on June 12, 2015. The restoration was completed by a wellknown Rhode Island classis car restorer, Dennis Rossi, with instructions to make this a high quality restoration. At the start of the rebuild we found the challenges of finding parts for a one year model. Parts that are normally readily available were found to be challenging, especially when the focus was to find as many New Old Stock parts as possible. The sheet metal parts were resourced from donor cars found across the US, with some of the parts found at a Connecticut Oldsmobile source, John Walsh. The dash was in surprising near original condition. But the instrumentation was sent to Instrument Specialties Inc., also located in Rhode Island. I found a 1968 400 c.i. block on Long Island, NY and had the motor rebuilt to original specification by a high quality rebuilder at Providence Street Garage located in West Warwick, RI. The first summer with the newly rebuilt mus-

cle was exciting and found to be very rewarding. The 442 took part in many car shows in New England. The top two were “Autos of the World” in July 2015-this is one of the largest car shows in New England and the Oldsmobile placed “Best of the Best” as the best Oldsmobile for all years for 2015. Another big car show was the 2015 New England Oldsmobile Club Nationals in Berlin, CT, where it also placed “Best of Show” for 2015 by the clubs judges.

S BACK!! two cars in his possession, you would think that’s plenty for the average Motorhead, but then again, as Cincotti says, “It’s a sickness, the best kind of sickness”. Cincotti has been buying and selling Muscle cars for at least the 20+ years I’ve known his younger brother. His Thunderbird Super Coupe, when we were teenagers, will always be one of my favorites, but through all the Corvettes, Camaros, and other sets of wheels that came and went through the Cincotti garage, I’m pretty sure that his newest creation is my absolute favorite. I’m not going to lie. It’s pretty hard for a Camaro guy to pry a compliment out of me. But Nick is now ahead 2-0 against me, with both Camaros that he’s displayed at World of Wheels. While the 69 Camaro is one that lives in the dreams of anyone with an automotive pulse, I’ve personally always been a fan of the later generation. So of course when he announced that he picked up a 1973 Camaro, it immediately peeked my interest. I found out later that this absolute masterpiece was actually acquired as a roller, barely saved from its previous owner, who planned on chopping it up into a drag car. Nick got the car as a bare shell, with nothing more than a rear end and 4 wheels. He said he rarely uses too many of the original parts during his customizations anyway, so buying a complete car would have been like throwing money in the trash. However, this would be one of his biggest projects yet. It took Nick about a year to complete the 73, starting right after the 2015 World of Wheels. According to Cincotti, “UPS was at our house every single day for over a month”. He said it was a pure rush for him to be constantly tearing into packages that were stuffed with car parts and it was even more exciting because he had strayed from his normal path of Big Block Chevy with a four speed Muncie, which was most familiar to him. This car was certainly going to be a challenge and a learning experience for him, but he thoroughly enjoyed it, every step of the way. He had always thought about putting together a small block set up, so away he went. The heart of the Camaro is a 383 stroker motor from Blueprint Engineering. The engine was stuffed with a performance cam and topped with aluminum heads and an MSD Atomic Fuel Injection system, resulting in a final compression ratio of 10:1. Nick’s original plan was to build this car for his 15 year old daughter Liana and he figured 450hp was more than enough for the young lady. To further insure Liana’s comfort, he added air conditioning from Classic Air, Bluetooth capable stereo, and as much as it hurt- AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION!! For the rear suspension Nick went with a ladder bar setup then four corners grabbed disk brakes with adjustable coil overs and sick custom wheels. It was at this point that Nick needed to figured out a color that was worthy or covering his latest creation. As usual he recruited the expertise of Glen Tosi to lay down a smooth as glass finish. However, he really needed to make a final decision on the color. My own personal suggestion was Synergy Green from the newer Camaros, and while Nick was swaying towards some form of green metallic, at the very last minute he fell madly in love with Volcanic Red, and with silver stripes on top, the car looks absolutely breathtaking. Final assembly took many long nights and Nick credits his good friend George Hemenway for the incredible sacrifices he made with his personal time to get the car ready for the World of Wheels show. When showtime arrived, he decided to throw in the 69 Camaro with the 73 and that resulted in huge crowds, constantly gathered around his display to admire a pair of Camaros that many can only dream about. I asked him if he was really giving the 73 to his daughter and he chuckled as he replied, “yeah, that way I can video tape my little girl slapping around your Mustangs”.

The police officers are watching as Etch turns on his left directional, looks into his side view mirror and waves out the driver’s side window. Etch mats the gas pedal and the GTO launches from its stopped position. The front tires lift off the ground to the echoing sound of the dual exhaust and then screaming rear tires. A massive cloud of white smoke engulfs the police officers as they all run to their parked police vehicles waving their hands in front of their faces and coughing the whole way. 12 VOLT NEWS Speaker Boxes
GEORGE ARAKELIAN, JR. A Custom Car Stereo Center
A car audio speaker box holds one or more fullrange car speakers in an enclosure. They’re useful in situations where you’d like to add more speakers to a car audio system but don’t have room in the car’s dedicated speaker locations, or you want to have a portable way of extending your car audio system’s sound outside the car for picnics or tailgating. With some basic woodworking tools, materials and skill you can build a strong and serviceable car audio speaker box. The first step is determining how much air space the speaker is designed for. Most audio speakers, especially sub woofers, come with a data sheet that tells you how much air space needs to be inside the box for best performance. This number usually reflects what is needed for a sealed enclosure to get “flat” performance. “Flat” means more or less equal performance across the range that the speaker is capable of reproducing. Ported boxes, and band pass boxes produce a stronger reproduction of a certain frequency range or “peak” and get much more complicated to build. Next, draw your enclosure out. If it is going into a car you have to take into consideration where the box will be located, and how much room you have to work with there. To determine what dimensions your enclosure should be take the manufacturer’s recommended air space, and build your enclosure to have this much space inside it. Sounds simple huh? Well to really do it right you need to take into account the air space the speaker itself takes up. This is usually in the spec. sheet. If it isn’t, a fairly accurate estimate is: an 8” woofer takes up .03 cu. ft., 10”-.05 cu. ft., 12”-.07 cu. ft., and a 12”-.10 cu. ft. Remember to add this to the size of your enclosure. If your box is going into a car, and has to be an odd shape you need to separate each section into a shape you can easily find the volume for, and add the results together. For a triangle form an imaginary outside square to find the volume, and roughly divide by half. The more irregular the triangle the less accurate this is. Remember volume is in cubic units of measure, HxWxD, a 1 cu. ft. box is 1728 cu. inches because 12x12x12=1728. So you can divide the manufacturer’s recommended air space by 1728, to get the length of one side of your enclosure in inches if it were perfectly square. This can be useful when deciding the dimensions of your enclosure. If you only have 6” of vertical space, and need a 1 cu. ft. box it can be 6”x24”x12”. You will have to use some geometry skills with complex shapes. The closer to the exact air space you build the box the better it will sound. This is why you want to draw it out first, and redraw it several times if necessary to have a shape that fits the place it will be mounted, and has proper air space. Remember if you are mounting two speakers in one box the air space has to be double, and a center divider will make it sound better.
with a 1/8” drill bit so the plywood doesn’t split. If your speaker didn’t come with a template for cutting the mounting hole, use a string, and pencil to make a perfectly round hole for the speaker(s). Screw a deck screw in about halfway in the exact middle of where you want to mount the speaker, and measure the exact radius of the speaker mounting lip. It isn’t exactly the nominal size of the speaker. I.E. it isn’t always 5” for a 10” speaker. Measure the lip exactly from side to side. Remember to either buy wire lugs to mount the wires through the box or at least drill a small hole, and run your wires through it, and seal it. I recommend buying lugs from an electronics dealer. They look nice, work well, and make sure your cuts on the plywood are precise, and square or your box won’t look very attractive. Remember to take the blade curf into account. The curf is the amount of wood the blade removes when it is cutting. It is usually 1/8”. If the speaker didn’t come with a gasket, use multi-purpose weather strip from a hardware store. Glue the weather strip very close to the outer edge of the speaker hole. Most weather
strip is self-adhesive, if not buy 3M trim adhesive or something similar. Seal the box from the inside with silicone sealant. Seal the wire lugs where they come through also. When you mount the speaker I recommend using “T” nuts from the hardware store. They hold much better, and make it easier to remove the speaker, and put it back again while you’re building your enclosure. Just drill a hole of the size recommended in the instructions with the “T” nuts (usually 1/4” or 3/8”), and tap the nuts into place in the hole with a hammer. Now cover the box with some nice carpet, or rhino line the outside. Be creative, and make it look good. If you do not want to tackle making a speaker box yourself, I have made plenty of speaker boxes and enclosures, stop by A Custom Car Stereo and we can discuss your options for a simple box or a Custom Box.

WORLD OF WHEELS The 42nd Annual Automotive Extravaganza ED YESSAIAN Model- Lauren Komorowski Springtime in New England has always been an exciting time of the year for Motorheads. The chill of Winter has pretty much drifted away, the roads are starting to dry up, and Rick Finnemore is coming to town with the annual
My next stop was to visit another old friend, Nick Cincotti who had his latest creation, a 1973 Camaro on display, right behind the 1969 Camaro that we spotlighted last year at this show. Nick’s Camaros were restored to such an unbelievable level of quality that even a Mustang guy like me has to pay him the respects he deserves for the painstaking attention to detail that he puts in to each and every one of his builds. We will actually be featuring Nick’s 1973 Camaro in this issue, so keep reading. In search of a few Mustangs after those incredible Camaros, I came across the display of Paul Breault and Joe Crowley. Breault’s car has always been a showstopper, with an immaculate restoration and paint so clean it looked like glass. Joe Crowley’s collection accompanied Breault’s car and every single one of them was simply flawless. Representing three different generations with his cars, Crowley cleaned up during judging, but I have to say my favorite of the three was the Gotta Have It Green ROUSH.
WORLD OF WHEELS show at the Seaport World Trade Center in downtown Boston, MA. For 2016 the show celebrated it’s 42nd year, with this area’s absolute best show cars. I’ve personally attended this show every single year for almost 30 years and have always enjoyed it, but I have to say that the last couple years have really turned it up a notch,
when you see the mind blowing quality of the participant vehicles. Amongst the hundreds of participants, there are always a handful of displays that I make it a point to check in to… Perhaps my oldest friend in the mix is Mike Forte. Mike has been the area’s biggest icon in the Mustang Performance scene for decades. He is also the go to guy for Factory Five stuff and has created many of his own hand crafted GM Performance parts. For the show Mike displayed the Tremec transmission line. He is the area’s largest and most knowledgeable distributor for Tremec and he was also generous enough to donate some of his display space to showcase the 700rwhp SVT COBRA of Dan Spector, who was recently featured in Motorhead. 44| Motorhead Magazine - May 2016

This year’s winner of Favorite Club display was Rick LaCourse and the New Hampshire Mustang Club. Alongside Rick’s two-tone 2006 blown GT was a new group of member’s, each more than worthy of representing the club. Gabe Popa’s blown GT accompanied his lady Lisa Meier and her stunning Shelby GT500. One of my all-time favorite cars in this circle has always been Ken Morse’s 1982 GT. This car looks like it just rolled out of the showroom, with flawless paint, updated pony wheels, and a spotless engine bay. Todd Ratcliffe also made it out for the show, with a 1965 Mustang convertible that screamed AMERICAN ICON, with its bright red hue and glistening chrome trim. George Shepherd’s 2014 Mustang GT was another showstopper, and will also be featured in Motorhead because it is just everything I wish I could have done to my 2013 GT, once again, stay
tuned cause this car is BAD ASS!!! After multiple trips around the building, I eventually came to the conclusion that the 2016 rendition of World of Wheels was one of the best I have seen, judging by the quality of the entrants and the unbelievable craftsmanship of many of the builds. As I bid farewell to the many people I encounter here on a yearly basis, there was mention that I need to make a return, with a project of my own. I’m not making any promises but you might just see my Outlaw 10.50 car with the New England Dragway group, my newest prospect 1985 SSP Mustang in the New Hampshire Mustang Club display, or who knows, I might even build a new Camaro to hang out with Nick Cincotti!! Then again, the wife really wants a bright red WS6 Trans Am, so we could be hanging with Lauren Pontiac in a Motorhead display. You never know!!

CUSTOMS 101: KRAWL DADDY OFFROAD Lauryn “Hotwheels” Pontiac-Vernancio When you hear rumors of several custom fabricated works of tactful 4 by 4 creations all in one location, you’ll want to investigate and see if what is said is actually true. Who could have taken a standard Wrangler, built a custom tubular enclosure mounted on 43 inch tires and call it a day? Well the general owner and creator of Krawl Daddy, Tommy “One Ton” of course! With his passion for Jeeps and 4 by 4 enthusiasms, Tom Thomson envisioned a gathering of individuals that could take their passion and make it into a much greater form. It began as just a hobby within a small garage where Tom and his associates would work on their own vehicles and create custom builds to pass the time and stay out of generalized trouble. Nothing meant more to Tom than staying at the garage on weekend night and helping others turn their projects into masterpieces as he would work on his own endeavors. As this pursued, family and friends heard of this location’s capabilities and began asking for work of their own, followed by referrals and word of mouth that would quickly bring clientele right to Krawl Daddy’s doors. The name “Krawl Daddy” was merely a fun nickname given to Tom as he was considered the “Dad” of the shop, looking after his work mates and giving them the tools to help further their passion. Some contributions of the shop include Dan Dias’ Chevy V8 swapped Wrangler and Ford Powerstroke, and Jose Estermera’s Dodge Ram. Together they work through most nights welding, building engines, swapping out heavy duty suspensions, and figuring out ways that they can bulletproof custom rigs to handle all off-road conditions. Mr. Thomson is looking to promote Krawl Daddy at regional get togethers this summer while sponsoring some charity events that hold dear to his heart and most importantly those that are involved with the military. If you would like to contact Krawl Daddy for general repairs, welding, and custom fabrication or off-road applications please feel free to contact Tom Thomson at (508) 243-3906. They are located on John Williams Street in Attleboro, Massachusetts and are available for appointments, evenings as well as weekends and make sure to check them out on Facebook at “Krawl Daddy Offroad”.
