SOUTHLAKESTYLE MAGAZINE

LETTER FROM

SOUTHL AKE

people first It’s time, once again, for our annual ʻBest Of ʼ list where we fondly review the year. Sharing great stories and celebrating our friends and neighbors is what makes our city and our magazine thrive. Simply put, we at Southlake Style enjoy putting people first, giving recognition when its due and spreading the positive vibes of our city. This year we couldn’t be more honored to recognize one man who spends almost every moment of his day putting others first. As General Manager of the Southlake Hilton, Mike Hutchison ensures each and every guest has the best possible experience. Whether you’re a guest staying on the concierge floor or you’re an employee on the clock, Mike Hutchison is guided by a true servant’s mindset that everyone who enters his hotel is his No. 1 priority. That’s why his guest satisfaction surveys are always amongst the tops in the company and why his staff shatters the hospitality industry norms for employee tenure and performance. Excelling at the job of hosting Southlake visitors and its perpetual list of city, school and charitable events for the past decade is more than enough to say “Hutch” has made an immeasurable impact on our community. Yet it’s after hours where he continues to shine by donating his time and considerable talents to more than a handful area charitable organizations. For more than a decade, Mike Hutchison has been Southlake’s consummate host—generously putting his entire community first. Those who know him best know he doesn’t do it for the recognition. And that’s why honoring Mike Hutchison with our ninth-annual Southlake Style Community Impact Award is so fitting.

You needed a bridge. First Financial helped build it. You found your new dream home and were ready to buy. But certain guidelines stood in your way, making traditional financing nearly impossible. Then you talked to First Financial Bank. Our local mortgage experts told you about Bridge Loans, a process that lets you “bridge the gap” between financing on your current home and the new home you wish to purchase. It can remove roadblocks and get you into your new home while your previous home sells. We call it good business. You’ll just call it smart. When it comes to innovative home financing, First Financial puts You First.

Program Benefits and Features -May not require a down payment -No pre-payment penalties -You only have to move once -Interest only payments for up to 12 months -More time and less stress for the selling of your current home

CAPITAL GAINES | CHIP GAINES

Fixer Upper may have come to an end, but there’s good news for those not yet ready to let Chip Gaines out of their life. Before heading to Baylor, Waco and HGTV stardom, Gaines spent his youth in Colleyville and graduated from nearby Grapevine High School. The latest offering from the New York Times Best Seller chronicles lessons he’s learned in life and as a serial entrepreneur.

SHOE DOG | PHIL KNIGHT

I always assumed there was no such thing as Nike before Michael Jordan. On the contrary, Phil Knight turned his B-school thesis and $50 he borrowed from his father into a $30 billion company. As a Nike loyalist, runner and small business owner Knight’s memoir was something I just couldn’t put down. Mike Tesoriero, Southlake Style Publisher

BOBBY FLAY FIT: 200 RECIPES FOR A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE BOBBY FLAY, STEPHANIE BANYAS, SALLY JACKSON DECEMBER 5 Plan Your New Year’s Diet This month we’re giving you a head start on some inevitable New Year’s resolutions. Renowned chef Bobby Flay is releasing a new cookbook that will appease your palette without adding to your waistline. Featuring 200 recipes straight from Flay’s kitchen, the book teaches an important lesson: low-calorie does not mean low-flavor. Recipe followers will not be asked to give up bread or bacon. In fact, these ingredients appear on several pages. His secret? Low-calories bursts of flavor via rubs, relishes and marinades. With the proper blend of flavors, Flay is able to transform lean proteins, produce and other nutritious items into a satisfying feast, and so can you.

She finds Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in self-imposed exile on the island of Ahch-To. They join forces with Leia (Carrie Fisher), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac) in an adventure that unearths past secrets. The film holds a special place in the hearts of original Star Wars fans, as it is Carrie Fisher’s final film role. Fisher passed away in December 2016 at the age of 60.

After winning two Golden Globes (including Best Television Series-Drama) and more than a handful of Emmy Awards, The Crown is back for a second season. The Netflix-original drama follows the life Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy) from the 1940s and onward. This show has everything you could ask for in a period piece: elegant costumes, royal intrigues, political rivalries and, of course, romance. The show picks up after chronicling the Queen's marriage to Prince Philip (Matt Smith) in 1947 up to Princess Margaret’s (Vanessa Kirby) dissolved betrothal in 1955. We would normally give spoiler alerts, but everything actually happened decades ago. That said, the second season reportedly covers the royal family from 1957-1964, meaning we should be gaining two new characters, Princes Andrew (born 1960) and Edward (1964).

BEST REALTOR WITH ACTING CHOPS Pure magic unfolded when eight community stars competed for one mirror ball trophy in Carroll Theatre’s second-annual Acting With The Stars. #TeamPennington came away with the win and plenty of laughs when Tommy Pennington channeled his inner Paul Blart. We admit he’s pretty good on a hoverboard! BEST FLIPPING FUN We took our January fitness issue interactive with Fit Flip. See the page numbers? Flip quickly and watch our character bust a move.

I WANT YOU TO TELL ME WHAT MAKES THIS COMMUNITY SPECIAL AND WHAT WE CAN DO TO KEEP IT THAT WAY.

- MAYOR LAURA HILL Tastemakers

BEST DRIVER OF YOUTH SPORTS Former NBA great and Southlake resident Jermaine O’Neal has a passion for training the next generation of athletes. We dropped in on a basketball practice at his home’s private gym, but the training didn’t end there. At Drive Nation, his 90,000-square-foot youth sports facility at DFW Airport, he teaches kids in all sports about winning, losing and recovering from mistakes. BEST FRIENDLY RIVALS Just call them dueling saxophones—Carroll jazz students Kyle Cantrell and Brendan James are the state’s top two high school tenor saxophonists. And in the spirit of Dragon excellence, these friends challenge each other to new heights.

SOUTHLAKESTYLE.COM

BEST MANORS Creating the custom castle of your dreams is all in a day’s work for Southlake-area homebuilder Jimmy Lambert. The visionary master builder has constructed some of the city’s most amazing estates and one stellar reputation for pleasing the most discerning clientele. BEST PALOOZA In February, Dragon Baseball hosted the first-ever Dragon Baseball Palooza for Dragon Youth Baseball players. Themed “Dragons United,” the event included baseball clinics, giveaways, an alumni-varsity game and plenty of photo ops in what ended up being an energy-packed season kickoff.

BEST ADULTS AT PLAY Give our 2017 Tastemakers a sunny spring afternoon and free reign at Southlake’s North Park, and they’re all just kids at heart. Mayor Laura Hill seized the day in #themayorsshoes, which, for our shoot, happened to be her sundae heels. BEST DREAMS ON THE DIAMOND The Dragon Dreamers, a Southlake 12U baseball team, had a pretty epic summer. The team, which included two children with special needs—dubbed assistant coaches—got to play at the iconic Cooperstown Dreams Park. Mayor Hill even journeyed to New York to cheer them on. BEST BASEBALL INSIDER The next time you head to Globe Life Park, know that Southlake’s own Rob Matwick is working behind the scenes to ensure you have a phenomenal time. The Executive VP of Business Operations is also at the forefront of the new Texas Live! Entertainment center set to open in 2020.

WE DEVELOPED DIFFERENT WAYS TO PAINT AND BUILD FENCES, BUT I WANTED MORE…

BEST BALLER In today’s competitive youth sports landscape remarkable two-sport athletes don’t come by often. However Dragon football and baseball fans basked in the accuracy of Kole Ramage. The Arkansas baseball signee had a sub 2.00 ERA and was 111-112 as an All-District kicker.

- JIMMY LAMBERT King of the Castles

BEST SHOW OF PINK All of Southlake was tickled pink by Carroll Theatre’s production of Pinkalicious. We couldn’t get enough of the pink-loving enthusiast—or the show, which celebrated family, love and a healthy sprinkling of self-control.

BEST DRUMMING UP OF SUPPORT Carroll Indoor Percussion put a philanthropic spin on its show “From Dust.” The group kicked off “Dragons For Water,” a charity water initiative to bring clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations. The campaign raised more than $5,000. BEST COMPASSION IN ACTION When Hurricane Harvey devastated the Houston area, Dragons stepped up to help by donating gift cards—topping a whopping $36,000—to help those affected. Johnson Elementary won Carroll ISD’s Give Back Challenge and was declared the year’s Compassion Cup winner. BEST KID CULINARIANS Taste Buds Kitchen (TBK) in Southlake has uncovered the recipe for compassion. It partnered with HopeKids, a nonprofit that provides events and activities for children with life-threatening illnesses. Through TBK, kids become star chefs and get to experience the simple joys of making pizza and decorating cookies. Let the flour fly!

BEST REASONS TO RISE AND SHINE Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but brunch is the most important meal of the weekend. We polled readers on their favorite brunch destinations, honing in on best brunch bites, beverages and atmosphere. Readers deemed Another Broken Egg Café as the buzziest brunch hotspot of them all. We’ll raise a mimosa to that.

BEST REMEDY FOR BLAZING-HOT DAYS When Steel City Pops opened in Park Village just in time to beat the heat, we all breathed a collective sigh of relief. Is there anything better on a hot day than an all-natural, organic, gluten-free, artisanal ice pop? We don’t think so.

BEST GUIDE FOR DOING GOOD Everybody agrees: It’s good to give back. But if you’ve ever wondered just how to get involved, our March issue laid out the steps to plan your volunteer strategy.

This May, Southlake residents answered the call for academic excellence when they passed Carroll ISD’s $208 million bond proposition with a 64 percent majority vote. The bond package includes classroom additions and renovations for each elementary school, a 700-seat performing arts center and maintenance projects district-wide. BEST CUPCAKE COUNTER

SOUTHLAKE STYLE

Cupcakes had their moment but its safe to say that in Southlake 2017 was the year of the macaron. First ‘Lette Macarons brought their dainty Beverly Hills bites to Park Village and then we unearthed the flavors of Southlake’s own macaron maven Stephanie Keusch. BEST AQUAMAN IMPERSONATION He may not be a member of the Justice League but Dragon head swim and dive coach Kevin Murphy ought to be. Since his arrival at CISD’s Aquatic Center in 2005 his teams have been nothing short of dominant amassing more state championship wins than any other Carroll sport. For his leadership Murphy was inducted into the Carroll Athletics Hall of Honor.

BEST MEDS Our second annual Top Docs list gathered over one hundred of the areas best physicians to celebrate their achievements. BEST SMOKING SECTION We don’t condone smoking unless you’re seated in a leather booth at Southlake’s own Wildwood Grill. They’ve hit the mark yet again with their inventive Smoked Maple Old Fashioned. Hickory smoke trapped in your glass tableside unleashes one heck of a cocktail.

BEST WAY TO BEAT THE HEAT If more than 4-acres of indoor air-conditioned gardens aren’t enough, SummerFest at the Gaylord Texan boasts a 10-acre pool, waterslide and a lazy river. Evening fireworks over Lake Grapevine are pretty cool too.

BEST DEBUT DUO From concept to completion John and Elizabeth Huffman, of Southlake-based Black Door Home Co., delight clients with stylish home renovations. Together from North Texas they supply award-winning and buzzworthy concotions, spirts and wine across the globe.

BEST WAY TO GET PLUGGED IN BEST BENEFACTORS Longtime Southlake residents John Slocum (Citizen of the Year) and Michelle Moore (Volunteer of the Year) took home top honors at this year’s Southlake Chamber Awards Banquet for their efforts behind The Miracle League of Southlake and the Carroll ISD School Board. BEST PONYTAILED POWER PLAYER Ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the nation amongst the class of 2021, Southlake soccer prodigy Alexis Missimo is a star on the rise. The newly minted high school freshman has already accepted a scholarship to the University of Texas. BEST FASHION STATEMENT Laura Hill has become Southlake’s most sociable mayor by reaching out to residents through a myriad of community events and giving her honest opinions via social media. Her posts entitled #TheMayorsShoes get quite a bit of traction as well. BEST NEW BOUTIQUE For a decade, the Southlake Hilton reigned supreme as the city’s only hotel. That was, until Cambria opened its 175-room boutique hotel in Kimball Park with a grand opening showing off their brand of upscale hospitality. BEST LID Southlake sports fans and bed-headers alike rejoiced over the limited edition Texas Rangers/Carroll Dragons logoed baseball caps given free with Ranger ticket purchases this year. Even better—a portion of the proceeds benefitted CISD’s We Care program. BEST JOY RIDE Army veteran Keith Pardew logs more miles on his bike than many people drive and it’s all in preparation for his annual August jaunt at the Hotter’N Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls. This year marked the 64 year old’s 34th entrance into the 100-mile bike race.

SOUTHLAKE CARROLL CROSS COUNTRY PLACES AT STATE The Carroll Girls and Boys Cross Country teams advanced to the State Championships held on November 4, in Round Rock, Texas. For the Lady Dragons, the meet marked its 21st-consecutive state meet bid and eighth-consecutive bid for the boys. hanksgiving has come and gone, and we now collectively brace ourselves for the next half of the holiday season. December’s holidays tend to be the heavyweight champions of entertaining. And while Thanksgiving seems to center on feasting, Christmas and its fellow winter holidays seem to focus more on family time – or so Hallmark leads us to believe. Regardless, thanks to schools granting extended winter breaks to students, December marks a time of travel for many. Those who aren’t traveling are often on the receiving end, welcoming family and friends into their home for more than an overnight stay. People in the latter circumstance hospitably throw fresh linens on the guest bed and dust a room that remains largely overlooked for the remainder of the year. Yes, it’s time to update those guest bedrooms, and here is where to start. KEEP IT COMFORTABLE Even more so than other bedrooms in the house, the guest bedroom is largely used for sleeping. While your kids may use their rooms to play and hang out, guest bedrooms are rarely used for anything other than getting some shut-eye. This makes the bed the most important part of the room. That probably comes as no surprise. And yet, how many times have you been a guest and slept on a lumpy, old mattress? We’re not

saying your guest bedroom needs a California king Tempur-Pedic. Just make sure guests don’t leave with cricks in their backs, wishing they had brought an air mattress. Secondly, make sure the room is comfortable in the sense that it actually feels like home. Skimping on wall décor is noticeable, and can have guests feeling like you stuck them in a storage room. Add a vanity so guests can do their makeup when others in thePlace bathroom. Put a few succulents or 24are Oxford | $999,999 flowers in there to prove that life can and does exist in the spare room. Ask yourself, “Is this somewhere I would like to spend time?” If the answer is “yes,” mission accomplished. PLAY WITH PATTERNS If you find that your guest bedroom is rarely slept in, use the vacancy as an opportunity. Here is a space that is normally neither seen nor heard, so feel free to get loud – with colors and patterns, that is. And that’s perfect, because funky wallpaper is back in! If you want to keep the walls tame and neutral (understandable), play up the bedding. Tasteful pops of color will transform a guest bedroom from a sterile, chain hotel look-alike to a chic space that will leave a lasting impression on friends and family. We would advise you to choose only one of the two options at a time. Loud walls and bold bedding could give your guests a headache.

little more than 10 years ago, Mike Hutchison relocated his family from Houston to Southlake so that he could open Southlake’s first hotel, the Hilton Southlake Town Square. As general manager of a hotel in what is known as a very transient business (Hutchison had come to Houston via hotel positions in multiple states), Hutchison could have settled in any North Texas town and awaited his next post. But Hutchison, his wife Lisa and their young son settled in Southlake to live and to work. Now, as the Hilton celebrates its tenth year in Southlake (the hotel opened in June of 2007) Southlake Style is celebrating a man who has become as much a part of the Southlake landscape as the revered hotel, which he still manages. Based on his 10-plus years of service to the community, Mike Hutchison was a natural choice to be awarded the magazine’s 2017 Community Impact Award recipient. From the time he and his family came to Southlake, Hutchison has been involved in the community both in his role as general manager of the hotel and in his roles in many volunteer organizations here. Even before the hotel opened, the Hilton has been a setting for functions held by many of Southlake’s charitable organizations. Carmen Evans, who currently runs sponsorship for Art in the Square for the Southlake Women’s Club, remembers meeting Hutchison for the first time in 2006, when she and Barb Cohen put on their hardhats for a tour of the facility. At the time, they were looking for a venue for Art in the Square’s VIP Party, and the soon-to-be-opened Hilton felt like the perfect spot. “He was very agreeable and excited,” Evans says of Hutchison, and they decided then and there that the Hilton would be a perfect venue. But as construction can tend to go, the hotel wasn’t ready by April of 2007 when the event was to be held. Still, some creative thinking and extra effort by Hutchison meant the party would go on. It was held in the Town Square building that now houses Charming Charlie’s, and Hutchison arranged for the still-unopened hotel to cater the event. “He really supported us then,” Evans says. And he continues to, she notes. Since then, the event has been held at the Hilton, where Evans says Hutchison goes above and beyond, often employing his “sparks of brilliance,” as she calls them, to come up with creative ideas for their group. “He puts so much thought into it,” she says. “Not a single little detail is missed.” Brad Bradley, chairman of the Pro Players Foundation, has known Hutchison since he first came to town, and he too echoes this sentiment. Hutchison, a lifelong baseball fan (had he been able to make a career out of playing in the minor leagues, he might not have ever wound up in Southlake, by the way) has been involved in the Pro Players Foundation. Bradley says Hutchison is every bit as helpful with the foundation and the many charities he has been involved with as he is with his work at the Hilton. “Vision without execution is delusion,” Bradley says. But Hutchison “talks the talk and walks the walk. He has definitely made an impact on Southlake.” In addition to his work with the Pro Players Foundation, Hutchison has been involved with the Miracle League, Carroll Education Foundation, the Southlake Women’s Club Advisory Board, the Southlake Chamber of Commerce, Kids SOUTHLAKESTYLE.COM

Matter International, and, as his son (who is now 19) progressed through Carroll schools, Hutchison volunteered his time and efforts for the schools as well. “Mike has been an invaluable supporter for the Carroll Education Foundation,” says Laura Grosskopf, Executive Director of the Carroll Education Foundation. “Through his service both on the board, in an advisory role and as a major sponsor, the foundation has been able to give back thousands of dollars in teaching grants to the district.” “Almost every organization in this town, somehow Mike is tied to them,” says former mayor John Terrell. “There are few people in this community who have had as much of an impact in so many different areas than Mike. A lot of people have benefitted from his kindness and generosity.” Like many of the people with whom Hutchison has worked with these past 10-plus years, Terrell says that his relationship with Hutchison has evolved over many years of working alongside each other in various professional capacities. “It has become a friendship,” Terrell says. John Slocum, who too has worked with Hutchison on various charitable organizations including Miracle League, considers “Hutch” a great friend as well—at least until the competition heats up in the fantasy football league on which they both participate. Friendly competition aside, though, Slocum has only good things to say about Hutchison. “He has a lot of goodwill; people really like him,” Slocum says. “He knows so many people. He can just tap people’s shoulders and say, ‘Hey, I need a little help.’” Indeed, Hutchison himself feels that one of the benefits of being in Southlake, and of managing a hotel in Southlake, is that the community supports one another. From the start, he says, “The idea was to make the hotel feel like part of the community.” Those who have worked with the Hilton and with Hutchison feel

as though the hotel has done just that. Conversely, Hutchison feels as though the community has embraced the hotel as well. “It’s nice to have this small, supportive community,” he says, though “small” might be a relative term here, especially for Hutchison. He grew up in a community of just 100 people in western New York. He held many odd jobs growing up in the farming community of Linden, including milking cows. When he entered college at the University of Buffalo, he took his first hotel job as a night auditor at a roadside Holiday Inn. By his fourth year of school, he was offered the post of assistant manager. “The economy was pretty bad back then, so I took it,” he recalls. “I didn’t know a lot but I thought it would be a good starting point.” From there, he held hotel management jobs in Williamsport, Pennsylvania; Warren Niles, Ohio; and Sanford, Florida, before moving to Conroe, Texas. Next, it was off to Jackson, Mississippi; St. Louis; and Boston, before he made his way back to Texas, this time to Houston, where he worked for the company that would go on to open the Hilton in Southlake. Yes, it’s a transient business, but Hutchison notes that the Hilton Southlake still employs 30 of its original employees. “I’m proud of that,” he says. Another thing Hutchison is proud of, from a professional standpoint, is that the Hilton has been in the top 5 Hilton of Americas hotels (meaning, North and South America). This ranking is based on guest surveys, and Hilton Southlake has attained it for all but one of the years the hotel has been operating. This year was no exception, as they ranked in the top 5 out of 287 properties. It’s a testament to Hutchison and his staff that the hotel is ranked so highly and has become the backdrop for so many of the community’s events. And always there, behind the scenes, is Hutchison— a man whom many are proud to call a friend and someone who is most deserving of the honor of being named our Community Impact Award winner for 2017. ADVANCED ENDODONTICS OF TEXAS First-Rate Experience

Thorough and Complete

The attention to patient comfort was first rate. My root canal went very well with minimal pain. I will recommend your office to anyone in need. Thank you! Tony C.

Dr. Turner was the greatest! She was warm, honest, and took all the time needed to explain and cover all options. I rate her above every dental experience I’ve ever had. Glen S.

Very Comfortable Dr. Walsh was very good. He explained everything thoroughly and made me feel very comfortable throughout my whole root canal experience. I felt confident in his abilities. I would definitely recommend his services. Claudia Q.

Best Experience It was the best experience I could have had for a root canal. I was kept super comfortable — they played excellent tunes during my procedure. The staff was very friendly, and it was not scary at all; I am usually terrified of dental work. It is a very nice facility, and I am almost sad that I don’t need to come back. Luisa V.

ALL-STAR ORTHOPAEDICS Professional and Courteous

Great Results For Us All

Dr. Honig and the ASO staff are professional, courteous, and informative, and they have great bedside manner. My injury was quite severe and required extensive repair. I am less than two weeks out of surgery, and I am feeling much better. I met with Casey, my physical therapist, today. Progress is going very well, and I am extremely satisfied. Thank you all. Paul

Dr. Tsay has performed knee surgery on me as well as four of my family members. We’ve all had great results and love Dr. Tsay! I know that my entire family and myself will continue to see him if need arises, and I also highly recommend him to anyone with orthopedic surgery needs. My entire family trusts him, and all of our knees are in great shape now. Actually, my previously ‘bad’ knee now feels better than my ‘good’ one! C.H.

Very Grateful At age 43, I went to Dr. Greenberg for a second opinion on a knee that swelled after an ultimate frisbee game, and I had a torn PCL from an injury at age 27. The first doctor had taken an MRI and diagnosed a torn meniscus and a bad ACL. He said he thought the knee would need to be totally redone. Dr. Greenberg disagreed. He said the meniscus was worn and torn but the ACL was solid. He was also clear about not knowing for sure what would be needed until he got inside the knee. I had him operate and he trimmed the meniscus and did microfractures because the cartilage was thin. It has turned out really well – I’m playing regularly again, and the knee just keeps getting better, I guess because the microfractures take a while to stabilize. For the first two or three years it still swelled afterwards, but less and less. Now it does not swell at all. C.C.

It is very hard to find good customer service and people who truly care about their patients. I found that special touch here. Thank you very much for helping me with my allergic reaction.

I went to Better Faster Urgent Care with a painful neck injury. They were so caring and supportive. I was treated professionally and quickly, and I would highly recommend them to anyone needing medical care. Love this group!

Accommodating Staff The staff made an awful situation so much better. They all were kind and extremely hospitable. They went out of their way to let me know I was going to be okay, and they helped my pain in the meantime.

Great Experience I went to this facility at the recommendation of my sister-in-law. I woke up that morning with a nasty throat. I went in and was seen almost as soon as I got there. CORINTHIAN WELLNESS SPA The Best Spa Experience I Have Ever Had!

Refreshing, Relaxing and Professional

Oh my gosh! Words cannot express how great my experience was at Corinthian Wellness Spa! I scheduled appointments for myself and a couple of my best girlfriends, and it was great from the start. Wendy greeted us when we first walked in and took us to the Locker Room and then the Relaxation Room before our services. She made us feel so welcome! I had the Swedish Massage with Zarah and a Custom Facial with Angela, and both services were top-notch. Zarah melted away all of my stress in the 80 minutes I was with her. Angela was so sweet and very skilled. She explained what she was doing, and the benefits of each product she used. My skin looks fantastic! Everyone that I came with had an amazing experience. We all pretty much floated out of the spa after our services. Stacey W.

I love Corinthian Wellness Spa! The staff is always super attentive (plus, there are the same, familiar, friendly faces on staff with each visit, which is hard to find in this industry), the facilities are excellent and the treatments refreshing, relaxing and professional. Be sure to arrive early to take advantage of the peaceful Relaxation Room prior to your treatments. I also love that they are open seven days a week!

METHODIST HOSPITAL SOUTHLAKE Superior Staff

Fast and Efficient

One of my family members had a procedure here in February, and she completely enjoyed her experience. After surgery, the doctor came out and showed us photos. The nurses in recovery kept checking on my family member, and overall, we loved the friendliness of the staff! Up on the second floor, the night shift nurses always introduce themselves and constantly check on the patient to ask if anything is needed. Samar A.

I went to the ER for a migraine, and there was no wait. I got in, was connected to the IV, got the medication solutions I needed, and was discharged in an hour and a half. I was able to not miss a beat that day even with one of the worst migraines ever. The nurse was great and very thoughtful. They gave me extra blankets, turned out the light and created a very quiet place for me. I will definitely use Methodist Southlake Hospital over the others in the area, due to how quick I was helped and my issue resolved. Christi A.

Outstanding Orthopedic Care I had a total knee replacement surgery, which was well overdue. I had put it off on many occasions, because I didn’t want to stay in the hospital. From the pre-op, through surgery and into recovery, the nurses and staff were outstanding. They listened and answered my questions, which made me feel extremely safe. When I arrived on the floor, the nurses were friendly, reassuring, and I was walking with the physical therapist within an hour or so. They told me when everything would happen, so nothing was a surprise. I was home the next day. The food was good, too! Julie C.

THOMAS & SHARON MICHAEL | DFW Elite Realty The perfect team to sell your house

Highly Recommended!

When we arrived in Southlake four years ago, we met Sharon and Thomas in the neighborhood. Ever since I saw them in this small community, they have been doing a great job buying and selling houses. This year when we needed to sell our house, I knew right away whom we wanted to do the job. Even given my high expectations, they easily exceeded them. We had a short period to sell the house, and that was no problem for them. The whole process was so smooth, and the communication excellent. I could text every question and get an answer right away within 10 minutes (often even faster). They were so flexible that we got our house on the market within two weeks (including a week of renovating). Sharon helped with the staging of the house; Thomas did a perfect job marketing the house online and sold it within two days. The paperwork was always clear and fast. They are the perfect team to buy or sell your house. I highly recommend them, and I will definitely hire them again when we are back in this area. Karin Burger

We couldn’t have asked for a better experience in selling our home than working with Thomas and Sharon Michael. If you are selling your home I highly recommend calling Thomas and Sharon; you won’t be disappointed. Frank and Christine McCafferty

We loved that they were always available to us and had great knowledge of the area. The group made what could have been a stressful experience an amazing one. Thank you, QuinnMarcontell Group and the Ebby team! Gina H.

Dynamic Duo The Quinn-Marcontell Group represents the best of customer service. Lisa Quinn and Kelly Marcontell actually worked together on happenstance when my husband and I decided to sell our home in 2007. Kelly represented us as the seller, and Lisa brought the buyer. They both were able to secure a contract for us within the first week of our listing! I believe it was then they realized what a dynamic duo they could be and decided to join forces not long after that! The Quinn-Marcontell Group exudes professionalism, thoroughness and dedication to their clients. As well, they are each a friend to their community, giving back to various charitable causes that impact them personally. Melody B.

SANTÉ MEDICAL AESTHETICS Lifestyle gem I just moved back from Denver and Santé’s office is a lifestyle gem. They have an amazing team and a genuine passion for helping their clients. I will be coming here for years to come. The staff makes you feel welcome and they really take the time to offer the best treatment for you and your skin. I went in for some Botox and asked about filler for my lips. I did both. They even brought me back for a follow up. We followed up with some Botox to get it just right. Melissa B.

I have seen positive results I went to Santé to get a cool sculpting service. The staff was very nice and professional and I have seen the positive results. In two months, my waist has significantly reduced in size and my pants fit better. I recommend this service to lose fat quickly without much effort. Bit M.

The best treatment for you and your skin The staff at Santé makes you feel welcome and they really take the time to offer the best treatment for you and your skin. I had a Halo a couple of weeks ago and followed up with some Botox and filler. I was told by two people at work today I looked great and my skin looked so good and made me look younger. That right there made it all worth it! Thanks Santé’! Tina S.

52 going on 32! I turned 52 this year, and I had lost a significant amount of weight. I was thrilled with my weight loss, but sadly, it came a slew of other new problems. My body stayed fairly firm, but my face really started to show the stress I had put on my body in prior years. I was positive a facelift was my only option, but my husband urged me to try and find something non-invasive. I went to Santé because my friend had been going there for a while and loved it. I was educated and shown where my aging was coming from. When it came down to it, a facelift wouldn’t have even helped. I was prescribed fillers to pick up my cheeks and Ultherapy to retighten my jaw and neck. It was an investment, but it was worth every penny. It involved no knives, no anesthetics, and no one knows I had anything done! All I hear are compliments on my skin and how I age backwards. On top of all that, I finally feel beautiful. Alisa S.

JESSICA SMITH Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty Best in the Business We’ve used Jessica as our agent to buy and sell two homes. She is knowledgeable, dedicated and personable. She is a strong negotiator and excels at making clients feel comfortable with every step of the buying and selling process. Our home was on the market for less than 24 hours before we had multiple, strong offers, and she was effective in securing us the home we wanted before ours was even on the market. Jessica is an excellent communicator, and we felt fully informed about every decision, what options we had, and how best to approach different issues that arose with our buyer and seller. We trust Jessica completely, and I have recommended her to many friends as the absolute best Realtor ® in the area! Jennifer D.

Proactive, Professional and Knowledgeable Jessica was extremely effective as my agent in selling my house and also finding my new home. She provided great advice and service all throughout the process. We were able to sell our house at a good price within a reasonable timeframe and also find our new home in the perfect time. SOUTHLAKE PLASTIC SURGERY Mark E. Mason, M.D. Superior Surgeon and Amazing Staff I have been a patient of Southlake Plastic Surgery for several years. I started going to get fillers and different facial treatments. The medical spa staff is very talented. Within the past year I have had Dr. Mason perform several procedures including a breast lift, tummy tuck and liposuction. The results have been outstanding. He is an amazing surgeon and a genuinely caring person. He takes the time to listen and answer all of your questions. I felt very secure having my surgeries in his surgical suite because of how well I was treated from beginning to end. I was also very impressed that I could always reach the doctor, even on nights and weekends. Dr. Mason has a remarkable caring staff. I have always felt very comfortable in his office and I could not imagine going anywhere else. I highly recommend Southlake Plastic Surgery, Dr. Mark Mason and his team! Jennifer B.

Best Around I have had multiple procedures from surgeries, Botox and filler with Lindsay, to photofacials and facials with Sonia. Every person, including Nicole at the front desk and everyone who works in the surgery room, goes above and beyond to make certain you feel special. This is definitely the kind of place I want to come to have all my surgeries that keep me looking good. Dr. Mason is not only a great surgeon, but also he is kind and actually listens to what you are saying. They are never pushy but always willing to help. ATTIC BUTLERS Excellent Service and Excellent Product and Installation Attic Butlers installed a new attic ladder for me last December. He was able to install the larger attic ladder versus the builder’s-grade smaller ladder that was currently installed. This ladder was perfectly installed and has served me well throughout the year. Nick P.

Phenomenal Service at a Great Value We had purchased a Jeep rooftop lift from Jack about two years ago and have recently moved. Jack installed and then reinstalled the lift in our new home with his usual skill and expertise. While he was there, he gave us an estimate for an attic lift so we can expand our storage, which we plan to do early next spring. If you’re looking to add more storage or just simply find a better way to get your Christmas decorations down from the attic give Jack a call, and he will take great care of you. Jim C.

BLIND AND SHUTTER GUYS Would Not Go Anywhere Else for Blinds Or Shutters Karl is a pleasure to work with. He is reliable, patient and fairly priced. He has done several projects for me, and I would not go anywhere else for blinds or shutters. Sheryl K.

No Better “Guy” I write reviews only if my experience was extremely bad or extremely good. In this case, Karl was fabulous! This was my fifth time purchasing Hunter Douglas window treatments from an authorized dealer throughout Texas, and each time I used different businesses. My experience from the initial meeting to the end was that Karl was insightful, courteous and patient. He and his team of installers were professional and respectful of my property. Never once did I feel I needed to look over anyone’s shoulders, question their workmanship or make sure the product was delivered in top-quality condition. If I stay in the Southlake area, Karl is the only “Guy” for me! He should be the only guy for you too, should you want a stress-free delivery or installation of a high-level product. Eileen L.

CROWN OF LIFE So Happy to be Here in Our 2nd Year! Since leaving public school and coming to Crown of Life my girls now love school. The difference was obvious to them. My 4th and 6th graders both told me that they are no longer just a number. The teachers know them as individuals, and the classes are so small that if they are having trouble in a certain subject the teachers recognize it and help them. They are never left behind. It’s such a bonus to be taking a foreign language in grammar school, too! What an edge up they will have. The teachers are not only kind and caring but also energetic and exciting. My kids have never said they were bored. They are challenged daily in academics and personal growth. The best part is the faith that this school is fostering in the kids, and my girls enjoy this part the most. They love being surrounded by other faithful people. Kristin H.

FLYKIDS YOGA So Happy We Tried Flykids We've been wanting to try FlyKids classes for so long and finally dropped another activity so we could do class once a week. I am so happy that we did! My daughter loves going and is so excited to share or show me the pose of the week after each class. FlyKids is more than yoga - it's yoga plus self-awareness, confidence building and learning the value of positivity! She loves the class, friends and instructors. Erin H.

Amazing Experience Both of my boys have been members of FlyKids Yoga since it opened. What an amazing gift that Danielle and her teachers are giving my boys. They have learned how to meditate and calm themselves, which helps them in school and life. In addition to the meditation, the flexibility and core strength that yoga has provided them has carried over into their team sports. GRIFFITH ROOFING A Whole New Level of Service I certainly would have never thought that having to replace my roof would turn into one of the most professional experiences I have ever had regarding a service-related transaction. Robby Duncan was absolutely amazing to work with. His communication, professionalism and handling of the insurance issues made the entire process seamless. The team who installed the roof did a great job. Robby said that a roof replacement is truly a “home improvement” project, and when Griffith Roofing finished our roof, I felt that we had certainly improved our home. Griffith Roofing did “the little extras” such as paint touch-ups, trim work touch-ups and installed turbines. HERITAGE DESIGN STUDIO Immediately Impressed We hired Heritage after meeting with several architect firms in the DFW area. We were immediately impressed with Chris and his team. I was told by doctors that she had 10 days to 10 weeks to live as she wasn’t eating and had no desire to get out of bed. After only six weeks at The Landing, she was gaining weight, participating in activities and making friends. The nursing, rehab and programming staff at Watermere are by far the best I have seen. I highly recommend Watermere. Connie Coleman

Cannot Say Enough Good Things My mother went into the Isle at Watermere, and I had absolutely no reservations on how her care would be. I truly cannot say enough good things about Watermere and their staff. Resident Family Member

LAW OFFICE OF KYLE WHITAKER He Always Has Your Back I’ve known Kyle for almost six years now. Although it wasn’t a great situation that brought us to his office, I thank God daily for putting him in our lives. He has helped my son and grandson so much! He has a way of making you feel like everything is going to be okay and he always has your back. I can’t even begin to express how grateful we are for everything he’s done and highly recommend him and his staff. Bonnie R.

Gave Me Confidence I’ve used Kyle’s services twice now, and I would not hesitate to call him again should the need arise. He has been such an asset through some incredibly stressful times. His knowledge and experience in the courtroom gave me the confidence I needed throughout my case. I feel like he was genuinely concerned about our family the entire time. I can’t say enough good things about Kyle and his staff. I would highly recommend him to anyone! John P.

KIMBERLY MARSHALL, MD FACOG Best OB/GYN Ever No question about it, I refer everyone to Dr. Marshall! She delivered my daughter, and I couldn’t have asked for better communication during my pregnancy and delivery. Kimberly Marshall is such an amazing woman — I couldn’t have asked for a better OBGYN! Toni A.

Amazing Doctor I can honestly say that I will be forever grateful to Dr. Marshall and her staff. They were professional, but made you feel like a person, not a medical patient. Dr. Marshall went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable and welcome as a first time mother-to-be. If I had questions or concerns, she let me know the facts and always did it with a smile on her face, and I hope she delivers all my children. It gives you a sense of pure joy to know that someone as amazing as Dr. Marshall brought the most precious gift into this world. There are not enough thanks I can give. Chandra C.

MCGEE LAW FIRM McGee Law Firm Treats You Like a VIP! I have needed to update my estate planning for some time, but did not know who I could trust with my financial information. Terrie answered the phone and immediately began to put my mind at ease. She was a wealth of information, and I was able to quickly set up an appointment. I met with Brandon McGee and was impressed with his desire to help me with my estate plan and goals. I wholeheartedly recommend the McGee Law Firm! Kaylynn Weyand

Peace of Mind Before we discovered Brandon, we had been to another firm several years ago for our estate plan. We decided that we should have the plan updated and reviewed just to be sure that everything was in order. Brandon looked over our old plan and explained to us what should be retained, what should be replaced, and what additional documents were a good idea to add on. We could not be happier. PRIMROSE SCHOOL OF SOUTHLAKE Amazing! Primrose School of Southlake deserves special recognition. When we started looking at schools for our daughter, I couldn’t imagine sending her to a daycare. I was the typical first-time mom with all of the anxiety that comes with it. From the moment I stepped into Primrose of Southlake, I felt completely at ease and comfortable; our daughter started in the young toddler room when she was one, and is now thriving in the pre-kindergarten class. When we had our second daughter, there was no question in my mind that we would start her at Primrose of Southlake. Everyone at the school — from the teachers and management to the owners — care for my children just like their own. They focus curriculum in a way that makes learning fun. I couldn’t be happier with Primrose School of Southlake and love watching my children grow up there! Rachel S.

The hotels and lodging were superb, the included meals were delicious, the transfers and transportation were smooth and efficient, and our tour guides were knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. Plus, we were very fortunate to enjoy some spectacular weather. Although there was light rain and clouds on some days, we were treated with clear skies and pleasant temperatures on many other days. We all agreed that there were many parts to this trip and getting them all to fit together was important so the travelers could enjoy the journey and the sites along the way. TASTE BUDS KITCHEN Great on so Many Fronts! I’ve experienced a couple’s class, had my 7 year old take classes and, finally, had a large Christmas party, where my guests created a four-course meal using the expertise of the staff of Taste Buds Kitchen, at the facility. We have had rave reviews about that experience. The instructors are very knowledgeable and, more importantly, patient and entertain along the way to enhance the experience. I could not recommend this business enough to anyone who wants to have a memorable cooking event either by themselves in one of the many different classes they offer or with a group. These people do it right! If you have kiddos, they will be highly entertained and come away with a great sense of accomplishment so, again, this location is full service, and in today’s market, service is king! Keith K

VALIANT ANESTHESIA ASSOCIATES Great Doctor, Personalized and Attentive Service, Highly Recommended! I never knew that I could choose my anesthesiologist and had always been at the mercy of the one my doctor worked with, or the one who was around. So after too many not-so-great experiences, I told my surgeon that I wanted to have Valiant provide my anesthesiologist in an upcoming surgery. Their service went beyond my expectations. The night prior to surgery, the anesthesiologist called to go through procedure, indications, etc., which should be standard practice. The day of the surgery, my surgeon was ahead of schedule, and Valiant’s anesthesiologist rushed to the hospital to start my procedure half an hour before its scheduled time. At the end of the day, he stopped by to check on me at the hospital and make sure I wasn’t having any issues. I’ve never had an anesthesiologist do that and I greatly appreciated his visit. The administrative processes were easy and pain free, too. Diana B

eave it to the Bishop Arts District to take the craft brewery craze and make it craftier. The city-folk founders and cider enthusiasts Joel and Laura Malone don’t have a bachelor’s in brewing, but they do have Internet access. After launching a successful Kickstarter campaign and fishing through mounds of bureaucratic red tape, the daring duo hunted the web and gathered apples and other exciting fixings to add to their recipes. In 2014, Bishop Cider Co. (BCC) emerged as Dallas’ first cidery bringing fresh ingredients, fresh thinking and a little beginner’s luck to the craft cider world. Those who think ciders are only super dry and tart are in for a tasty treat. Of course, BCC has their own version of the standard,

which they call High & Dry. This crisp and potent (6.8% ABV) cider brings forth plenty of pucker-inducing tannins that will make your lips smack. However, the not-so-standard yet equally popular Suicider (6.5% ABV) has a precarious mixture of spices that speaks to the founder’s spirited attitude. Here, the familiar holiday flavors of cinnamon, allspice and clove combine for a playful nod to the little chemist in all of us—or as they put it, “A tasty mess.” The Malone’s definitely tapped into the right market, and within a year BCC outgrew its original cidery. The former Bishop Avenue location has since been resurrected into a small yet noble tasting room for their creative concoctions. Upon walking in, a long

wooden bar calls your name. We suggest you belly up and order a flight of the latest potions available while a friendly bartender walks you through the history of cider making. Did you know cider was a thing before Prohibition? Now you do. Thankfully, Prohibition is no more, and today local cider fans can enjoy a myriad of hard ciders like BCC’s Crackberry, a cranberry-blackberry infusion or Cat Scratch Fever, which incorporates jalapeños (and an 8.5% ABV) to bring a bit of heat to your sweet. Six days a week (the tasting room is closed Mondays), patrons can relax at one of several small tables or fill a growler to go. The Malone’s didn’t stop at the first sweet taste of success. To meet the increasing demand for craft ciders, the couple expanded into a larger production facility in the Dallas Design District. It was in this space that Joel chose to portion off a few thousand square feet to turn into an arcade. Yes, that’s right. The Malone’s took a space the size of your average suburban home, added a rotating gallery of arcade classics and dubbed it as the Cidercade! Thanks to the backing of a family arcade game collector, the Cidercade boasts a wide variety of popular titles like Guitar Hero and well-worn classics like Frogger and Asteroids to keep even the biggest gamer happy. Want some fight with your pint? Order up a Schilling Mischeif Maker (fruit-forward cranberry and pomegranate, 6% ABV) and challenge a friend to a game of Mortal Kombat over in Figher’s Row. Just beware; on Thursday nights the Cidercade invites serious gamers to take part in regular tournaments with prize pools in the thousands of dollars. Those looking for a more classic buzz are advised to tap their inner Gene Simmons at the KISS pinball machine. Pair it with some dry-hopped Bishop Galaxy (citrus and passionfruit cider, 10% ABV) and you’ll Rock N Roll All Night! Whatever your flavor, the Cidercade is bound to have something for you with two dozen specialty ciders on the menu. Leave the quarters at home because from noon until midnight (and 1am on Friday and Saturday) a modest $10 admission fee will have you playing all the games to your heart’s content. The Malone’s may take their cider seriously, but at their tasting room and Cidercade, the overall vibe is laid-back with a nod to your sweettoothed, joystick-navigating inner child. The next time you’re in Dallas, consider leveling-up for a fun night out with Bishop Cider Co.

f ig Dreams The Honey and Fig Tartlet captures all the essential flavors of the season

If a popular Christmas carol has you thinking of figgy pudding this month (whatever that is), we suggest giving another fig a chance—namely, the Honey and Fig Tartlet at Trio New American Café. “I came up with the Honey and Fig Tartlet because citrus is at its best in cooler months,” says pastry chef Dulce Langston. The dessert provides a flavorful twist on the restaurant’s classic lemon custard as it is sweetened with locally sourced honey instead of sugar. “This elevates the entire dessert to a new level,” she says. Once the custard is baked in a tart shell, the top is coated in a thin layer of sugar and then brûléed with a torch, similar to the method used for creme brûlée. For the finishing touch, the tartlet is garnished with fresh figs, rosemary sprigs, whipped mascarpone cream for a little tang and candied pecans that have been boiled in simple syrup, flash fried and seasoned with salt. “The candied pecans are the real showstopper,” Langston says. The figs, she adds, are perfect just as they are. In this festive time of year, we cheerfully agree!

If you believe that appetizers are much more appealing than entrées, you’ll love Roanoke’s newest culinary destination, Craft & Vine Taproom and Eatery. Situated along the city’s restaurant row, the upscale gastropub specializes in shared small plates. Here, guests don’t have to commit to one dish—they can mix and match to suit their appetites and cravings. With 75 beers, sours and wines on tap along with a range of craft cocktails, it’s the perfect place to bring a few friends, order a few dishes and enjoy a night on the town in historic downtown Roanoke. The menu showcases modern American fare prepared with fresh, local ingredients. Executive Chef Bill Trevino takes a farm-to-fork philosophy, aiming to prepare simple foods that are true to Texas. With shareable plates designed to satisfy two or four guests, you can order to your heart’s content and leave the stress of decision-making at the door. Offerings pivot from comfort food such as sliders and house-cut fries to gourmet selections including Ahi Au Povri (served with vegetable Israeli couscous and fine herb burre blanc) and Duck and Prosciutto Flatbread (served with olive oil, capers, garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, herb ricotta and Parmesan). Divided into a half dozen categories, the menu is easy to navigate, whether you’re leaning towards a locally grown salad or a bite from land or sea. Don’t leave without trying one of the restaurant’s signature offerings, the Nashville “Hot” Red Snapper served with a buttermilk biscuit and house-made pickle chips. Craft & Vine’s take on Chicken and Waffles (a jalapeño cheddar waffle served with chipotle-spiked agave syrup) is another Instagram-worthy crowd-pleaser. But if the Shrimp Pot Stickers or Wood-Grilled Angus Shoulder Tender happen to call your name, give them a try. That’s the beauty of ordering several small plates—you get to experience a variety of tastes. While many Metroplex eateries have gravitated toward the small-plates trend, few have done it with as much visual and gastronomic panache as Craft & Vine. Gather your group and go enjoy sweeping views of Roanoke while you indulge in some of Texas’ best flavors.

OWNER OF LOCAL CHRISTMAS TREE FARM KEEPS THINGS FESTIVE

A

nyone who has experienced the magic of the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch knows that the owner, Jan Balekian, doesn’t do things halfway. In December, the same field that served as a temporary home for hundreds of pumpkins transforms into a forest of firs. Cartoon cutouts and bounce houses appear and reappear for both seasons, as do the delighted smiles of children enraptured by the sheer volume of festive diversions. Both of her holiday businesses have become a destination spot for North Texas families.

I STARTED FLOWER MOUND CHRISTMAS TREES BECAUSE… I wanted to start something a little more festive and family-oriented than just picking up a tree from a lot. I just decided one year to do it and brought in a few trees. It just grew and grew like the pumpkin patch. On the weekends when most of the families come in, we have our staff out in the field helping them. They are educated really well on every type of tree that we have. Where it comes from, how to take care of it, the qualities that may affect allergies and so on. Our staff is very knowledgeable and has worked here about eight to 10 years. WHEN IT COMES TO PICKING OUT THE PERFECT TREE… There is no such thing. It's just a matter of picking something that you like. When you buy Fraser [Firs] out of North Carolina, most of them are grown up on a hill. You'll get more branches on the side that the sun hits. If you have a corner of the house that you want to put it in, you just have to place the fuller side of the tree facing out. There is nothing perfect. We just find the tree that people love altogether as a family. THE MOST SURPRISING DISCOVERY IN STARTING THE FARM WAS… The price of getting them here. Our trees that are Nordmann [Firs] and Noble [Firs] – what I call the more expensive type of tree – they come from out on the West Coast, up in Oregon and Washington. A lot of those places have to cut their trees early because of the snow. If they wait too long in the season, they have to use helicopters to get trees out. And that gets expensive. The expense of getting

them here and taking care of them has really been eye opening. We have very few that go bad on us because we immediately put them in water. AFTER CHRISTMAS IS OVER… We don't have a whole lot leftover. What we do have in the way of small trees, we will take them and donate them to Christian Community Action. The smalls ones are easier for people to handle. Even just a five-foot tree makes the difference in a home. Nothing goes to waste. WHEN OUR CUSTOMERS COME IN, WE… try to figure out what they are looking for. What type of tree and what budget. We will have a tree that will fit every price-point. Some of them may not be as full as others, but we also buy what they call second-choice trees that may fit that need for someone that may not have the space or the money. When families come in here and pick a tree, we give them the option of taking the tree as it is. We'll give it a fresh cut, wrap it in plastic and tie it to the top of the cars for them. Of course, my guys use cardboard to lay the tree down. So once you pick a tree, you don't have to do anything until you get home and unload it. If you don't have a stand, we build a stand. So many of the people that buy from us say that this is the way to go. I’M DRIVEN BY… My love for kids. I love doing it. I dread the day I have to quit. As long as I can continue to do this, I will. I have nine grandkids. They are always coming out here. My two oldest granddaughters will come out and work the tent for the pumpkin patch or come out and serve hot chocolate for the Christmas Tree Farm. Just working with people and different personalities is a good learning experience.
