ASSISTANT EDITOR David Dunn David@SouthlakeStyle.com STAFF WRITER Lizzy Spangler Lizzy@SouthlakeStyle.com CREATIVE DIRECTOR Bruce Sons
My heart knows it and the record-breaking data from our third annual Readers’ Choice survey only confirms it — Southlake shows up to support its local businesses. Whether they’re newly minted like the Westin Dallas Southlake or tried and true for decades, we want our storefronts to succeed as shining examples of the community. We selfishly patronize our favorites often enough to ensure easy access to the best in shopping, dining and entertainment. We also tell our friends and family because if our local shops do well enough to support our kids’ soccer teams, it’s all for the better. I love how business and community intertwine so well here. Just as Southlake’s high-rise office buildings keep growing, so too does the quality of businesses coming out of them. All it took was a little networking to get to know the founders of Southlake’s budding, one-of-a-kind whiskey brand. During a personal visit to the “library” at Oak & Eden Finished Whiskey, I met some great guys who, dare I say, are the perfect blend of business and bourbon acumen. If you’re unaware, the product of their wares are on full display in more than 30 states and in our feature, “Creative Spirits.” Oak & Eden’s story is a great one and it’s just beginning. If its founders, Joe and Jamie Giildenzopf, and Brad Neathery have their say, the brand will have full national exposure by the end of this year. No matter how big Southlake gets — it’s still nice to know we’re rooted in hometown spirit.

Where are the buyers coming from?
What is your best advice for Buyers and Sellers?
I have many local buyers who are looking for homes in Southlake, Westlake, and Colleyville. I also have buyers from all over the country San Francisco, Southern California, and New York, to name a few. Many people look at this market as an opportunity. You need an expert to connect and make a match.
With low inventory and fierce competition, this can be an exciting yet brutal market. Whether writing the winning offer or choosing the best offer, it’s vital for Buyers and Sellers to work with an Agent who is experienced, connected and respected by peers.

CONCIERGE JEWELER
DIAMOND DEVOTEE
ask A. . darla stapleton
HOW DID YOU INITIALLY BREAK INTO THE JEWELRY INDUSTRY? I got my first job in the jewelry business from an ad in the classifieds. I was 19 years old, and I was hired as a salesperson for a small locally-owned jewelry store. I worked as a sales manager for eight years before going to work at Gatehouse Fine Jewelers in 2009. WHEN DID YOU OPEN YOUR OWN CONCIERGE JEWELRY BUSINESS? I was with Gatehouse Fine Jewelers for 12 years before we closed our doors in 2020. With the right location and perfect timing, I chose to open D-Flawless Concierge Jewelers in January 2021. WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THE NAME D-FLAWLESS CONCIERGE JEWELERS? Everybody thinks that it’s referencing my name, but it’s actually referencing diamonds. D-color diamonds are the highest grade and are colorless, so D-Flawless actually means a perfect diamond. WHAT KIND OF PIECES DO YOU OFFER? We offer a lot of unique, custom pieces that you won’t find in your typical jewelry stores. We have diamond tennis necklaces, stacked rings, precious and semi-precious gems. One of our hottest sellers are diamond stretch bracelets that expand to your comfort. I always say the bigger, the better. HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT FINDING THESE JEWELRY SELECTIONS? I have a strong network of suppliers and vendors that I’ve worked hard to build up over my 30-year career. I handpick the pieces that are different and unique and cater to the latest modern contemporary styles and trends in the industry. We have a variety of everything. HOW DO YOU CATER TO CLIENTS DURING YOUR JEWELRY CONSULTATIONS? It really depends on what they’re looking for. Some people are shopping for a birthday or anniversary present, while others are just looking to splurge. I have a strong client base that has been shopping with me for a long time, so I have a good idea of their styles and price points and how to find exactly what they’re looking for. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE SECRET TO YOUR SUCCESS? Listening is key. I know people, I listen very well and I do my best to deliver them what they’re asking for. That’s what makes a great jeweler — knowing how to get people what they want. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT THE JEWELRY BUSINESS? There’s nothing better than putting an exquisite piece on an excited customer and watching that smile come on their face. Jewelry makes people happy — and I love making people happy.

SOUTHLAKE BRAND DEFINES IN-BOTTLE ™ WHISKEY FINISHING

orks, bottles and oak wood spires. A bar top with an ice-cold glass perspiring like they do on television. A liquor library lined with an assortment of barrel-aged whiskeys. No, this isn’t the setting of a local bar or restaurant. This is the headquarters for the Southlake-based whiskey brand, Oak & Eden. Created by Joe Giildenzopf, his brother Jamie and their business partner Brad Neathery in 2017, Oak & Eden is making the most of their creative storytelling and patented in-bottle™ finishing methods. If all goes according to plan, their brand will become the next nationally-recognized spirit to hail from Texas, akin to TX Whiskey or even more notably Tito’s Handmade Vodka. With a distinguishing trademark, a slew of celebrity endorsements and a deep love for creating and sharing new experiences, Oak & Eden is well on its way. BOURBON BEGINNINGS Long before he started looking at the whiskey space, Joe has been a successful entrepreneur in a number of businesses in the financial, transportation and food and beverage industries. After Joe sold one of his companies in 2016, Jamie marked the occasion by offering him an unexpected gift. “I poured a batch of my bourbon in a Mason jar with [some] wood spires in it and let it sit for a month,” Jamie says. “All of his friends loved it, but they were all looking at the glass wondering, ‘Why is there wood in there?’” Brewing and distilling his own spirits for over 20 years, Jamie attributes local vineyards for having originally given him the idea to add a wood spire to his bottles. “[The vineyards] bought 1-inch diameter spires that are 10 inches long and dropped them into their wine bottles to age them,” Jamie says. “I figured I would try that out on my side and see how well it worked.” Joe's business mind saw the potential before he even tasted Jamie’s unique batch. “[Joe] looks at me and said, ‘We’re gonna sell this.’ I’m like, ‘No, you can’t sell a glass jar with wood in it. The FDA is not going to buy that.’ Turns out I was wrong,” Jamie says with a chuckle. As with any other great business idea, Joe started researching to see if other whiskey companies had a similar in-bottle finishing concept. To his surprise, he couldn’t find any after nine months of research, so he got to work building out a business plan. Understanding the need to protect his vision, he also hired an attorney to secure the patent for the corkscrew spire design the brothers knew would be at the heart of their brand. With a distinct product in hand, Joe’s next step was to hire a team — and he knew his first call would be to Brad Neathery. Having previously been a client of Brad’s advertising agency, Joe experienced firsthand the breadth of Brad’s brand-building prowess and knew he would need his storytelling talents to successfully launch what would eventually become Oak & Eden. “My background is in helping people get excited about what other people are selling,” Brad says. “[Joe] called me up and showed me this bottle of whiskey his brother had sent him. He said, ‘I know how to build this business. I just need you to position the brand.’” 14 • APRIL 22
”
The large vision has always been to allow customers to create their own bottling experience. — Oak & Eden CEO Joe Giildenzopf
The trio spent the next several months getting ready for Oak & Eden’s debut, testing the impact of the different spires on their base spirits’ ensuing flavor profiles and rolling out the company’s website. Meanwhile, Brad was busy building the anticipation early through digital advertising, social media influencers and press campaigns. Brad’s expertise shined through as the brand launched in May 2018 and almost immediately found its way onto shelves in around 300 stores in two states. “My strategy for building any business has always been to build the hype before you launch,” Brad says. “We had so much early traffic that when we launched, our first few months of sales were shockingly good — and we were only in the DFW market.” INSPIRED INNOVATION Every story has a main character, and in the case of Oak & Eden, that would be its proprietary wood spires. Each spire imparts distinct flavors of the various woods selected specifically for their unique profiles. “Inherent to each of those wood species are different flavors inside the wood,” Joe says. “By harvesting it, seasoning it, toasting it and infusing it, we can intentionally add different flavors to our whiskey in the embalmed age process.” American oak offers vanilla, coconut, caramel and butterscotch accents, while French oak has more floral, spice and pepper notes. Joe says the type of wood used can make a big difference. “It’s interesting how two very similar trees grown in two different parts of the world will produce dramatically different tastes,” Joe says. SOUTHLAKESTYLE MAGAZINE
SOUTHLAKESTYLE.COM

Not only does the type of wood matter, but also the length of time it’s toasted after the wooden spires are seasoned, cut and put into the oven. “Just like how the wood offers different flavors and botanicals, how you harvest and impart those flavors to the spirit is through toasting,” Joe says. “The lighter the toast, the sweeter the note it imparts. The longer or darker the toast, the smoother it is.” If the spires are the main character, then Oak & Eden’s whiskeys are the ensemble cast. Whiskey enthusiasts can taste the difference across Oak & Eden’s three bottle lines. In the Inspired series, oak spires are dropped into four different whiskey varieties distilled with corn, rye, malted barley and wheat for rich and smooth spirits. Soaking the spire in other liquids yields even bolder finishes. In the Infused series, the Bourbon & Brew soaks a spire in West Oak Coffee Bar’s cold brew to provide a coffee-accented finish. The Rye & Rumba drops a Caribbean rum-soaked spire into the bottle that tastes like it came from the high seas. And its bestselling bottle Bourbon & Vine pairs a Marker Cellars’ cabernet sauvignon-soaked spire for a bold and sweet vino infusion. With even more collaborative infusions in its Anthro series like vanilla, maple syrup and honey, Joe says the spire brings a wealth of flavors and sensations to Oak & Eden’s products. “We knew how much the spire could influence the product when we started the business, but we’ve learned over time through experimentation how precise we could be with our flavor profiles,” Joe says. Attention to detail aids Oak & Eden in winning over any purists who might doubt its in-bottle approach. “One of the most common reactions we get from people is shock, especially from whiskey fans,” Brad says. “They adhere to tradition so closely. They have this perception that because this is different that it’s going to be a gimmick or a trick. Then they try it, and every time they’re always like, ‘Holy cow, that’s amazing.’ We always turn them into believers.” BRIDGE TO INNOVATION As unique as the wood spire is, it’s only half of Oak & Eden’s business concept. The other half comes in its flagship brick-and-mortar tasting room located in Bridgeport, Texas, about an hour northwest of Southlake on Route 114. Opening in January last year, the corner watering hole has a cocktail bar and nano distillery where guests can customize their own whiskey creations through Oak & Eden’s in-house processes. “From the very beginning, our goal has been to sanctify and liberate the spirits industry by bringing the power of creation to the people,” Brad says. “The spire allows vendors to do that at the brand level, while our flagship location allows our customers to do that at the consumer level.” After reserving a time online, guests can choose their whiskey base, proof, wood spire, toast and infusion to achieve the rich flavors they want. Then after making their selections, their customized bottle is wrapped, boxed and sent home with them. 16 • APRIL 22
With so many customizable infusing options in their library, Oak & Eden ensures the final product is distinctly their customers’. “The heart and center of our space is the library, which is the place where people can come, have this experience and build their own bottle,” Joe says. “The large vision has always been to allow customers to create their own bottling experience and make the barriers to that limitless.” This location is not a one-off for Oak & Eden. Joe says they plan to roll out a second tasting room in Clearfork while looking at introducing concepts to Houston and Austin. These new locations will allow Oak & Eden to reach new customers as it rolls out even more infusions like olive oil, Coca-Cola extract and elderflower. “Anything you can soak a spire in, we’ve soaked a spire in,” Joe chuckles. “The spire is not the innovation of the brand — it is the tool. The innovation is what that tool allows us to do, and that is to customize whiskey.” ONE BOTTLE AT A TIME Oak & Eden products are now distributed in 10,000 stores across 30 states, with plans to expand to the remaining 20 by the end of the year. Those plans seem all but assured as Oak & Eden unveiled its first celebrity product line, collaborating with big names such as folk duo Jamestown Revival, The Civil Wars’ John Paul White and actor Forrie J. Smith, who plays Lloyd Pierce on the hit Paramount series “Yellowstone.” And this summer, the bourbon business plans to unveil an e-commerce site where customers can get the same customizable experience online as they do at its flagship location. Even as this upstart brand starts to take off, they are forever grateful for their hometown. Thanks to friends and restaurants across the city like Moxie’s Bar & Grill, TruFire and The Westin, Southlake has been instrumental to Oak & Eden’s growth. “Southlake’s been good to us,” Brad says. “It’s been really amazing to see how tight of a community Southlake is and how much trust and loyalty there is in the area.” More than anything else, Brad says their team is excited for what’s ahead for Oak & Eden, even if it can be a little overwhelming at the same time. “It kind of feels like month eight of waiting for your child to be born,” Brad says. “You’re so excited, you’re terrified, you’re hopeful, you’re confused, you’re everything all at once. This is what we’ve been building towards since day one.” Thanks to the founders’ innovation and initiative, Oak & Eden’s footprint is bigger than ever before, and Joe thinks its potential can only grow from here. “People are anxious to see what’s next,” Joe says. “What’s the next whiskey that they’re going to inspire? What’s the flavor? What’s the wood? What’s the science behind it? They’re eager to geek out with us, and frankly, so are we.” SOUTHLAKESTYLE MAGAZINE

Serving as a translator for Spanish-speaking couples who had thousands of dollars taken from them, Angie’s hard work and dedication helped the investigators reach a successful outcome, according to MySouthlakeNews.com. “With her assistance, several families have already received reimbursement for their losses and the accused is being held accountable for his actions,” Southlake Fire Marshal Kelly Clements says. “This just exemplified Angie’s dedication to the profession and her willingness to assist with internal and external departments.” SOUTHLAKE HISTORICAL SOCIETY EARNS TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION AWARDS The Southlake Historical Society has earned yet another accolade for telling Bob and Almeady Chisum Jones’ story. In 2020, the Southlake Historical Society organized an exhibit titled “Bob And Almeady Chisum Jones: A True Story Of Resilience, Courage And Success” that told how Bob Jones went from being formerly enslaved to a successful rancher. Not only did the organization receive honors from both the Tarrant County Historical Commission and the American Association For State And Local History, but it also won the Award of Excellence In Preserving History from the Texas Historical Commission. “The Southlake Historical Society is an inspiration to other organizations and communities wrestling with similar histories,” Mark Wolfe, Texas Historical Commission executive director, says via media release. “Their commitment and diligence in building this detailed exhibit is worthy of recognition as preservationists and historians work to present Texas’ diverse history.”

CARROLL SENIOR DESIGNS AND BUILDS HEXAGONAL GAME TABLE Alfred Hale put the STEAM facility to good use last month when he built a hexagonal game table. Using all of the facility’s woodworking tools, including a router, circular saw and sander, Alfred constructed a 34-inch game table that can seat 4-6 players. Not only did he use the facility’s woodworking tools, but he also used its 3D printer to produce some cupholders and sound speakers for the table. Alfred submitted his table to an online Instructables Workshop contest, where he won a prize as one of its finalists. “The faculty at Carroll Senior High School were amazingly supportive and encouraging to him,” Alfred’s mother Hilary says.

Southlake Teen Trio Collects 10,000 Shoes To Benefit Soles4Souls
W
hile shopping with his mom in 2019, Mateo Bryce saw a donation box for the Soles4Souls nonprofit and felt inspired to give back. After recruiting his friends Will and Matt Blount, the trio decided to start a shoe drive in Southlake to collect 10,000 pairs of shoes for people in need around the world. Reaching that once-lofty goal three years later this January, Mateo, Will and Matt have now set their sights on an even higher goal. MATEO: I WAS SHOPPING WITH… my mom for shoes in Southlake and saw a Soles4Souls box by the checkout line. My mom had just challenged me to find a local organization I was passionate about and do something to give back. I lived eight years in Latin America, and after seeing videos of what Soles4Souls does in developing countries to help wipe out poverty, I knew I wanted to do something to help. MATT: I WAS INTERESTED IN HELPING… with the shoe drive because I love shoes, and I know how important it is to have a good pair. After learning more about Soles4Souls, I realized how fortunate we are in Southlake. I also looked forward to working with my brother and friend. We were in it together, which made it so much more fun. MATT: THE FIRST DAY OF THE DRIVE WAS… [during] the summer of 2019. We went door to door in our neighborhood and delivered flyers. People were very supportive and wanted to help. This is when I knew we could have a successful shoe drive. MATEO: WE COULDN’T DO IT BY JUST… going door to door asking for donations. We had to partner with local schools, youth groups, our church, and other service organizations like YMSL, Play It Forward, Little Helpers of Dallas/Ft. Worth, the Southlake Foundation, Boy Scouts and others. We made presentations to local groups on the power of a pair of shoes and partnered with shoe retailers like VANS and Bear Creek Running to expand our reach. WILL: AFTER LOOKING AT THE FIRST DONATION… we collected, I thought for sure we had at least 1,000 pairs. But when we counted the shoes, it was only a little over 100 pairs. Once we reached 1,500, we had developed a great cadence and felt great about nearing the 2K mark. MATEO: WE REACHED OUR… goal in January of this year. It felt great to finally reach our goal after almost three years. There were many times along the way when we thought we would never reach it.
32 • APRIL 22
MATT: WE SPENT MANY, MANY… weekends and evenings sorting, bagging and delivering our shoes. WILL: WE HAVE GOTTEN SO MUCH… support from our generous community. The response has been overwhelming, and we are so grateful for all those who have donated over the past 3 1/2 years. MATEO: SOLES4SOULS HAS A FEATURE… on its website called the impact calculator that shows how your shoe donation helps the planet and changes lives. According to the website, 10,188 pairs of shoes can provide a full year of food, shelter and education for 15 families in countries like Haiti and Honduras. It also keeps 12,735 pounds of textiles out of our overcrowded landfills, helping to reduce our environmental footprint. MATT: I HOPE PEOPLE LEARN THAT… there are many ways to give back to those in need, and it doesn’t have to be something big. We collected used shoes for the past 3 1/2 years, but to others, those shoes are a way to break the cycle of poverty and provide opportunity. MATEO: WE ACCEPT ALL… sizes and styles of shoes for men, women and children. That includes boots, sandals, dress shoes, cleats, sneakers, flipflops — anything that is in good condition. MATEO: I WOULD LOVE TO ONE DAY… have the opportunity to travel back to Latin America and distribute new shoes to people in need. My longterm goal is to pursue a degree in business and start a socially conscious company one day that would combine my interest in business with my passion for helping others. WILL: MY [AND MATT’S] PLAN IS TO LOOP IN… our younger brother [Ben] who will continue to collect shoes people no longer want and keep working toward the next goal of 25K. If this goal is reached, a trip will be arranged to travel to one of the countries where the shoes are distributed.

AROUND-THE-CLOCK ANIMAL CARE Creekside Pet Care Center Provides 24/7 Veterinarian Services
F
rom grooming to day care to a variety of veterinary services, caring for your family pet takes many different forms. Not only does Creekside Pet Care Center bring the full range of pet care under one roof — its services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Part of the community for over 20 years, Creekside Pet Care Center is a full-service animal hospital with on-site grooming, day care, boarding services and intensive care. With an American Animal Hospital Association accreditation, Creekside offers the full scope of vet services from vaccinations and neutering to surgery and emergency care. “If you need to get your vaccines at 3 in the morning, we’ll do it,” Dr. Rob Hance says. “If your dog needs critical care at 10 in the morning, we’re here for that too. What makes us different is that we have a qualified team of emergency care doctors and nurses around the clock waiting to care for patients who are sick or injured inside a state-of-the-art facility. That isn’t very common.” But it isn't just medical services the pet care center provides. It also has a luxurious grooming salon that provides soothing baths, ear flushes, nail trims and oral care that refreshes and revitalizes your pet. The doggie day care allows your four-legged friend to mingle with other dogs while you’re busy at work. And if you need to go out of town, Creekside’s luxury suites and lodges provide your pet with a comfortable stay while you can check in on them anytime with in-suite pet cams. The best part about all of these services is that they complement one another. “It’s not uncommon for a pet to be dropped off, and while it’s in boarding, it spends the day in the day
care, goes to be groomed and sees the doctor in the hospital all in one stay,” Dr. Hance says. “There’s a comfort in leaving your pet in the same place where there’s always a veterinarian on the ground.” Continuing its commitment to providing quality service, Creekside Pet Care Center is excited to announce it has just opened a new 17,000-squarefoot facility in Keller. With nine additional exam rooms, a state-of-the-art operating room, intensive care unit and isolation ward, Creekside can serve even more animals like never before. “Our veterinarians are available at your beck and call 24/7,” Dr. Hance says.
“We provide the best care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We live and breathe pet care.” — Dr. Rob Hance

More Than A Movie Theater
Southlake’s Newest Destination For Movies, Games And Grub
T EVO Entertainment 1450 Plaza Place Southlake 682.286.6929 EVOCinemas.com
SOUTHLAKESTYLE.COM
aking the family out on the town usually means going to several different places — a fast-casual restaurant, a movie theater, maybe even a retro arcade. Now you can get that all under one roof at Southlake’s newest downtown destination, EVO Entertainment. Opening on March 11, EVO Entertainment is a new movie theater and entertainment center housed in the former Harkins Theatre in Southlake Town Square. Undergoing a multimillion dollar renovation, the new entertainment center offers everything from games to
movies alongside a varied menu featuring both traditional movie snacks and new soonto-be favorites. “After exploring the DFW Metroplex, we determined that Southlake — particularly Southlake Town Square — was the best place to enter the market,” EVO Entertainment CEO Mitch Roberts says via media release. “We are excited to be part of an environment with some of the best retail in a lifestyle destination that truly values the experiential element of shopping, dining and playing together as an elevated human experience.”

LOCALFLAVOR review
Guests who step into the venue will be captivated by a stunning 12,000-square-foot gaming space retrofitted with over 100 arcade games, a rock wall and ropes course, bumper cars and laser tag. The bowling alley has 12 lanes dedicated to hitting strikes and spares, including four private lanes reserved for exclusive events. While the kids are busy playing games, parents can stop by the full-service bar and grab a drink. From Deep Eddy drinks like Sangria, Texas Mules and Long Island Iced Tea to Patrón silver tequila margaritas, EVO has an extensive drink menu that includes 10 cocktails, seven margaritas, eight wine varieties and over 30 different beer options. “We’re going for a farm-to-glass approach that elevates the cocktails in the same way that we elevate the cuisine,” head of culinary Kacey Cummings says. “Whether you’re bowling or gaming, we want you to be blown away by the flavors, the elegance and the execution.” When the family has had enough fun, it’s time to head to the movie theater to make your showtime. EVO Entertainment has seven luxury theaters playing the newest releases, with the largest screen running as long as 72 feet wide. And with recliner seating and Dolby Atmos surround sound, you’ll be amazed as you’re immersed in an unparalleled cinematic experience. While the trailers start rolling, grab a preview of the menu with one of its appetizers. Common movie fare like fried mozzarella sticks and bottomless popcorn are still available, but EVO takes things to another level with pulled pork nachos topped with house-made queso, jalapeno cheddar hush puppies served with remoulade and even crispy empanadas filled with buffalo chicken, salsa verde, corn, black beans and Monterey jack cheese. The entrees offer even more exciting possibilities. While the fresh-pressed burgers and hand-tossed pizzas are reliable options, EVO has more than the usual movie theater grub with dishes like Mediterranean and southwest salads, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, crispy chicken wraps and tacos filled with either honey sriracha chicken or fried shrimp. The extended menu also includes hand-breaded chicken and waffles served with roasted pecans, cinnamon honey butter and spiced maple syrup and the tuna poke bowl served with lime rice, carrots, avocados and sesame seeds. The side dishes continue the reimagined movie fare, with options like fresh elote, fried plantains and jicama slaw made with red and green bell pepper and cabbage. Luckily for EVO fans, this concept menu isn’t a one-off. Kacey says that EVO plans to roll these offerings out to all 10 of its locations in Texas and Virginia after opening in Southlake. Once the credits roll, don’t forget about dessert. From ice cream sandwiches and New York Cheesecake to gluten-free chocolate torte and milkshakes spiked with either espresso vodka or Maker’s Mark whiskey, EVO has several sweet ways to finish your night out. Whether you come for the food, the in-house attractions or the newest movie releases, EVO Entertainment has everything you need for a fun family night out. “EVO Entertainment is exactly what this town needs,” area marketing manager Aleksa Gutierrez says. “We’re excited to help families make wonderful memories right here in Southlake.”

Beautiful Brews And Beverages Lucca & Livvy Premium Beverages Serves Nitro Press Infusions’ Juices And Coffee When Henry Hart and Leo Bienati decided to partner up, they realized not one, but two new business concepts. Nitro Press Infusions produces the pair’s nitrogen-infused juices and cold-brew coffee, which they currently sell via their bike cart company Lucca & Livvy Premium Beverages. With their headquarters located in Southlake, you might’ve seen Lucca & Livvy’s cart around the area last year, whether they were at St. Bernard’s grand opening, the Dallas Arboretum or the Dallas Farmers’ Market. Freshly made with fruit from around the world, Henry and Leo’s beverages feature no added sugars, colors, flavors or preservatives. “I take a lot of pride in the fact that we’re actually creating these beverages — we’re making and crafting these beverages,” says Henry, who is Lucca & Livvy’s co-founder and CEO. “Being able to serve [them] to customers and seeing people enjoy [them] is absolutely fantastic. It’s a great feeling.” Some of the juices include fruits like the calamansi — a citrus fruit that tastes like a tart combination of lemon, lime and orange — from the Philippines and passionfruit from Peru, which makes up Lucca & Livvy’s most popular flavor. But the secret to the juices’ popularity is their texture. “We nitrogen-infuse all of those beverages, which gives it this velvety smoothness,” Henry says. Thankfully, the pair’s offerings aren’t just limited to juice. Nitro Press Infusions also makes cold-brew coffee using beans from Honduras and Colombia. As both businesses expand, so do all the places where customers can find their beverages. Currently, the juices are on tap at Jane in Southlake while St. Bernard permanently offers their cold-brew coffee. And of course, Lucca & Livvy Premium Beverages carts can be found around town at special events and occasions and are available for private events. “We’ve been working very hard to try and get a product out to market that people can purchase,” Henry says. Henry and Leo aim to bring their juices to Central Market later this month and are working to provide online ordering through their website. “We’ve grown really well,” Henry says. “We’re definitely building for the future, and we’re very excited to be in Dallas and really focus in on this market.”

Rock 2022 With Bon Jovi The Award-Winning Band Is Ready For Dallas
O
PHOTO BY KYLE BESLER | SHUTTERSTOCK
ver 130 million albums worldwide. More than 35 million fans. Over $1 billion in ticket sales sold in the last decade alone. Now the legendary rock ’n’ roll band Bon Jovi brings its postponed 2020 tour to Texas, and it’s stopping at the American Airlines Center later this month. Consisting of lead singer and songwriter Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, guitarist Phil X and bassist Hugh McDonald, Bon Jovi has released 15 albums over its nearly 40-year career in the music industry since forming in 1983. Performing in thousands of concerts since then, the band was supposed to hit the road for its most recent album “2020” before it got delayed to this year. But they didn’t let unusual circumstances change their sound or style. While live concerts were put on hold, the group stayed busy by livestreaming performances and launching Bon Jovi Radio for longtime fans. Now the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers aim to make up for lost time when they bring down the roof with their powerful and show-stopping sound. From classics like “You Give Love A Bad Name,” “Wanted Dead Or Alive,” “Runaway” and “Livin’ On A Prayer” to hits off of its newest album like “Limitless,” “Do What You Can,” “Story Of Love” and “American Reckoning,” you’ll be amazed at this band’s breadth of musical variety. Whether you’ve been a fan for decades or you are just discovering these unbelievably talented musicians, this show will be a blast for everyone.

THE PEARL FISHERS
april 2-10
APRIL 2-10 WINSPEAR OPERA HOUSE | Nothing can get in between best friends — except, maybe, true love. The Pearl Fishers presented by the Dallas Opera is an incredible tale of friendship, forbidden love and treachery. Long ago, two men fell in love with the same priestess. Although they both swore to give her up to preserve their friendship, they can’t seem to do it. The opera was written by French composer Georges Bizet and features the “friendship” duet, the soprano aria and a tenor showpiece.
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
april 5-17
APRIL 5-17 MUSIC HALL AT FAIR PARK | Just in time for Easter weekend, “Jesus Christ Superstar” is coming to Dallas. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of this iconic musical, which received the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival at London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre. See the final days of Jesus’ life through the eyes of the ultimate betrayer, Judas Iscariot. Emmy-, Grammy-, Oscar- and Tony Award-winning composers Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote this fantastic soundtrack, which won the 1971 Billboard Album of the Year Award with amazing hits like “I Don’t Know How To Love Him,” “This Jesus Must Die,” “Gethsemane” and “Superstar.”

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS As your neighbor, friend, and real estate expert
“After living in Southlake for 16 years, when the time came to sell, there was no doubt we would use Tommy Pennington. Tommy guided us through the selling process and provided great advice. He and his team were always responsive to my texts, regardless what day of the week or time it was. Having an agent that has lived in town for years with great local knowledge matters!” - Mike G
