GRAVEHILL

Gravehill is a californian death metal band originally formed in 2001, disbanded shortly after, and reformed in 2007. Since their 2009 debut release Rites of the Pentagram, the band has put out other two full length albums, the last one entitled Death Curse just available on Dark Descent Records. It features over 35 minutes of pounding death metal played in the old足school vein. Its duration ensures that album never gets boring or tiresome, and ends just as powerfully as it began. All songs are delivered with ferocious as well as with catchy attitude. Compositionally, Gravehill doesn't set on taking death metal to unexplored regions or pushing technicality to the extreme, but they are solid, resolute and easy to grasp. This is not an atmospheric album, its very straightforward in its punishing intentions. However, the guitar work is smart enough to vary the attack just enough to give the listener a few brief bits of breathing throughout, with ultra heavy mid足paced sections that brings in some Autopsy vibes. By the way, the album features guest contributions from Autopsy's Eric Cutler and Chris Reifert with crazy guitar solos and vocal patterns to it. Death Curse is an example of how simple, consistent to the point a death metal without frills and trends can simply brutalize and annihilate anything.
