Eliminate Deluxe Brownie Sale By: Lily Jacobs The Eliminate project may be coming to a close, but Millburn Key Club is still raising money through new, creative fundraisers. Because of the efforts of our fabulous recording secretary, Olivia Estes, we were able to raise over six hundred dollars simply through a bake-sale. Granted, it was a bit more complicated than a bake-sale. From the beginning of January, we had started to sell orders for brownies to students in the entire school. We advertised our brownies through fliers plastered throughout the school. At the same time, we brought in ingredients for baking, from sugar to flour to vanilla. We weren’t making simple brownies, but a combination of chocolate-chip cookies, oreos, and chocolate brownies––or what we liked to call “deluxe brownies”. On February 20th, we started baking. We needed to bake over six hundred deluxe brownies, which amounted to over six hundred oreos, over six hundred brownies, and over six hundred cookies. For three days, Key Clubbers baked from the early morning to late evening. On Friday, Key Clubbers convened at Olivia’s house to make cookie batter from scratch. Saturday, more came to make brownie batter also from scratch. Sunday, we cut, baked, and packaged the brownies in packets of three. On Monday, Key Clubbers distributed the brownies throughout the school. The entire operation ran smoothly, which hardly any faults or mistakes. For me, the whole experience, as frantic and crazy as it was, was fun. While baking, we listened to music while ranting about TV shows. It is amazing to think that I received hours for hanging out with my friends. Like so many other Key Club activities, I forgot that I was even fundraising.

Pennies for Patients By: Eloise Burn

The Pennies for Patients Key Club fundraiser has been going on since Monday February 23 rd, and will continue until Friday February 13th. The fundraiser raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Students at the school can contribute by putting change in the jar during lunch, or by putting change in the envelope that is brought by their homeroom representative. As committee head of Pennies for Patients, I am in

charge of making sure that there is “I truly enjoy knowing that my actions are gosomeone outside the cafeteria eve- ing toward kids who are ryday to collect change. Furthersick and need help. “ more, I check that the jar of money is - Eloise Burn put back in the safe so that it will not be lost or damaged. Including myself, Olivia Estes and Uma Sarwadnya also help collect change during lunch. I have really enjoyed collecting money for this project. Every time I hear a piece of change go into the jar, I feel satisfied that my fundraiser is going well. I feel that the cause for Pennies for Patients, helping kids who are sick with leukemia or lymphoma, is a very worthy cause. I am honored that the dedication that I put forth last year as a freshman has paid off. Last year, I was not the committee head, however I went everyday during lunch and collected money. Being a committee head for Pennies for Patients means a lot to me, and I truly enjoy knowing that my actions are going toward kids who are sick and need help. I really hope that key club members are aware of this worthy cause, and feel as passionate as I do to collect change during lunch. If key club members can come during lunch, we can all make a big difference on the lives of those with life-changing diseases.

DCON Scrapbook Last weekend, about a dozen Millburn Key Clubbers combined their artistic talents with their dedication to service and started creating the club's annual scrapbook. The final scrapbook will be competing at this year's District Convention (DCON) with the scrapbooks of all the other Key Clubs in New Jersey. This year's DCON theme is Harry Potter, and our school was chosen to be Gryffindor. While creating the scrapbook, we chose to incorporate quotes from the book as well as imagery from the movie to supplement images of our Key Club service year. After carefully designing and creating the cover, the group split up into pairs and each created a page dedicated to a certain Key Club event from March of 2014 to March of 2015. Examples include the Car Wash, the Food Drive, the Deluxe Brownie Sale, March of Dimes, Smile Train, and the Forensics Tournament. Each page is a colorful, intricate, and themed collage. Thanks to many talented artists, organized minds, and voices of leadership, this group was able to make significant progress on such a timeconsuming task. The main purpose of this activity is to catalog the creative ways that Millburn Key Club has raised money for charities, simultaneously fostering leadership skills for all involved. Through a combination of Harry Potter allusions and pictures of our fundraisers, we truly captured the "Magic of Service". With just a few weeks to DCON, we will need all the help we can get completing the scrapbook. Please keep yourself updated in the Facebook group as to when meetings are, and what supplies you can bring to help. Let's win best scrapbook at the 2015 District Convention!

Member of the Month By: Nikita Verma This month, Orli Forster has risen up, and blown us all away with her dedication to Key Club. She was especially helpful in the making of the Deluxe Brownies. A project like that required immense help from many members, joining together to bake and bring supplies. Orli did both. She dedicated many hours of her weekend to help this cause. Not only that, but she also participated in weekly events. Great going Orli!!
