KIWANIS SUICIDE PREVENION AWARNESS NIGHT By: Scarlett Bergam

Sorrow. Despair. Isolation. These are emotions that everyone has experienced before. However, a large fraction of the population has felt them to an unhealthy degree: a shocking 1 in 8 adolescents in America have mood disorders, such as bipolar disorder and clinical depression. Unfortunately, these debilitating mental illnesses often lead to suicide. In this past year alone, Millburn High School has mourned the losses of 3 students and recent graduates. Today, many months later, the trauma, grief, and shock still remain for the families, friends, and acquaintances of the victims. Tragedies like these make it clear that there are problems with the pressure modern society puts on its youth and the way our community deals with mental illnesses. This is why, as Key Clubbers and caring citizens, it is our duty offer support to our peers and ourselves. If you or someone you know is showing signs of depression, it is crucial to tell a trusted adult and get help immediately. Calling the Suicide Hotline, whose number can be found on the back of your student ID, is also an option. Most importantly, we must show patience, compassion, and friendliness to all of our classmates, because everyone is fighting a personal battle. Remember that human life is valuable, and no matter how miserable things may seem, they can heal over time.

2nd Annual Fall Festival By: Nikita Verma

Earlier this September, Millburn had it’s second annual Fall Festival. This is a local event in which people of all ages can come to have a fun filled afternoon. This year the number of activities were endless. There were moon bounces, sumo wrestling, hair spraying, as well as all the other typical carnival games. Key Clubbers helped out by volunteering to run the stations and to make sure everyone was safe and having a good time! A huge part of Key Club is interacting with the community and helping in both conventional and mon conventional ways. The proceeds of this event went to the Education Foundation for Millburn and Short Hills.

Back to School Night By Dolly Ravishankar

During the Back School Night was one of events at our school that was so different for everyone. Some of the things we did were showing the parents the room numbers and give out maps for them for their children’s rooms as well as explaining where they are located around the school. Some of the parents were lost at first time around the school but then they soon got hang of it. All the Key Club members that help out! This is a big event that we have every year that comes up around in September in the middle of the week, usually on a Thursday. All the parents visit the teacher’s room where their child has their classes in. This is just way that Millburn’s Key Clubbers help out in their local community.

Community Service Fair By Dolly Ravishankar

The Community Service Fair is different where organizations talk about what they do and how they help the local community. Some of the organizations were Friendship Circle, Millburn High School Key Club, and Millburn Environmental Club. and all of different one and their about 44 organizations their. That was a lot of people there from Millburn and Short Hills people there. It was located in the Millburn High School Main gym. The people come to ask questions for the different tables were there. It was good talking people with their questions and try to answers their questions their had for us for each table The Millburn key club members answered questions that people had during this event. That was a lot people ask different questions for each tables talk to. There were many people that wanted to sign up for different organizations.

Fall Northern RTC By:Lisa Woolfston

The fall RTC (Regional Training Conference) was a blast. It was at Parsippany Hills High School which is just a short 20 minute drive away from Millburn. It was 4 hours of fun including a free lunch! The whole thing had a Greek Mythology theme which gave it an interesting twist. They kicked off the event by having the higher ups in key club (like the division secretary, governor, etc) talk to everyone who was there. I learned about key club events that were happening and going to happen. I got the chance to see some people I had met at DCON. I also made new friends throughout the day. Once the welcoming session was done, I headed off to key club workshops. There were 4 workshops and I got to go to which ever ones I wanted. The workshops all also had a Greek Mythology influence. There were lots of great workshops like for positions like editor, treasurer, and webmaster and more. There were also workshops on things like how to fundraise. There were even some that are applicable in everyday life like public speaking. Since most of the workshops started out with icebreakers I got to meet lots of new key clubbers from all over the district! The Regional Training Conference really got me into the spirit of key club and got me excited to go to DCON again. I made some great memories and met some amazing people at the RTC. I highly recommend for you all to go!

A Special Thanks to‌ Sarah Yi Although just having joined the club, as a Freshman, Sarah has taken great initiative as a new member. She actively participated in club events such as the RTC as well as showed her responsibility by being the first to sign up for our new program, Mail Chimps. Additionally, at the Community service fair, she brought in multiple items for the bake sale and diligently went around to every table and collected fliers. Sarah has shown the loyalty and responsibility we look for in all our members. Thanks for your help Sarah!!!
