Derry City and Strabane District Council Application of Corporate Brand Draft Copy: 1
Logo landscape A new modern logo has been created for Derry City and Strabane District Council. The ‘DS’ icon from the logo is made up of two core elements. A ‘D’ for Derry and a flowing ‘S’ for Strabane. When paired together the two letters create a visual representation of the River Foyle that links both regions. The new logo highlights the coming together of two distinct regions in a representative and balanced approach. All proportions of the logo are fixed and should not be altered. It must always be reproduced using the original digital master artwork and must not be modified in any way. Please do not scan or try to recreate the logo under any circumstances.

WELCOME As we approach the summer and the school holidays, I am delighted to welcome you to the TENTH anniversary of the Youth Festival, InterAct 2018 - brought to you by the Millennium Forum Theatre. My name is Siobhán Molloy and I am proud to hold the role of Education & Schools Marketing Officer in the Millennium Forum. The theme of our youth work is always one which promotes the Arts in exciting, inspiring, innovative, creative and fun ways. Moreover, we are focussing on celebration and community cohesion as many, if not all, of the activities on offer are geared towards raising awareness about, and improving, mental (and physical) health and wellbeing. We will provide young people with creative spaces where they can express themselves and highlight and discuss issues that affect them daily. Every activity is FREE to all young people from all backgrounds, aged 12-21 years. This Festival is created by young people for young people and we are proud to offer access to the best arts facilitation that this city, and region, has to offer. The plethora of activities will culminate in a very special showcase on Saturday 7th July 2018 in the Millennium Forum, where the building will be shining with the stars from the week’s workshops as well as their friends, families and special guests. As you peruse this year’s programme, I would like to acknowledge and thank all those who helped make the magic of the festival come to life! From funders to partners, from the dedicated Millennium Forum staff to the young people themselves, and of course, the parents, guardians, teachers and facilitators, without whom, this festival simply would not be a reality. Thank you all and remember, the famous words of Henri Matisse: “Creativity takes courage.”

Tommy Long, winner of the Carson McDowell award for Painting, will focus on the theme of social setting for this engaging workshop. By teaching young people how to paint for the stage or exhibition, Long invites them to question not only the reality of the scene portrayed, but their own reality and to consider just how much an individual’s inner state matters and how this state, in turn, can powerfully affect projections onto an outer environment. The main theme of the workshop paintings, props and set will be a ‘junkyard’ with a final vision of displaying all the class work on the Millennium Forum auditorium stage, or in an exhibition in the piazza during the show Cats. If you are a budding artist and want to experiment with different styles, if you are interested in learning about stage, props and exhibitions or even if you simply enjoy painting or want to give something new a try, then this is the workshop for you! *Materials will be provided. #paintbynumbers #setthescene #readysetgo

Both dances are of huge importance within Chinese Culture and are accompanied by the sounds of drums and cymbals. Lions and Dragons are said to banish bad luck and bring good luck. Lions require two people working together in sync to perform the traditional dance, whereas the dragon requires between 5 -10 people. Learning to perform these traditional dances requires working together as part of a team and learning to depend on each other.
