Dear Readers, This Holiday Issue holds an incredibly special place in my heart for various profound reasons, and I feel compelled to share the transparent journey that brought it to fruition. There was a point when the prospect of this issue materializing seemed uncertain, and I grappled with doubt. It felt as if everything was going awry, and obstacles loomed at every turn, creating an overwhelming sense of disarray. Faced with this adversity, I made a deliberate decision to pause, seeking guidance from the living God. I posed straightforward questions: "What's happening? What are you trying to tell me?" His response was swift and illuminating. The clarity came in the form of a directive to shift my approach, aligning the magazine with His divine plan rather than persisting in running it solely by my design. "You're trying to run this magazine your way, but it belongs to me. Stop seeking advice from others and trust me" resonated as a profound revelation. It marked a pivotal moment of realization—embrace obedience, trust in God's vision, and have unwavering faith in Him. This issue now stands as a testament to a miraculous turnaround, a symphony conducted not by human hands but by God. The unfolding of events, the alignment of elements, and the lessons harvested during this season of growth are treasures beyond measure. Gratitude wells within me for the invaluable lesson learned and the transformative trajectory God is charting for Mind Blowing Magazine. This issue is undoubtedly a miraculous gift from God! A heartfelt thank you extends to our cover star, Crystal Renee Hayslett, whose presence not only graces the pages but radiates love and joy, embodying a purpose harmoniously aligned with God's calling. MIRACLES STILL HAPPEN
G
OD strips away everything to get our attention. When the smoke clears, we see that we're still standing, and no one else can take credit for our deliverance. That's when we truly realize the power of God. Chekesha Kay Ellis, raised in a devout Christian home with a minister father and an usher mother, had a promising future deeply rooted in their local church. As she grew into a young woman, Chakesha pursued her dream of becoming a professional model. Eventually, she found her ideal career as a therapeutic support staff, where she had the opportunity to work with an autistic boy attending music class in a Philadelphia church basement. Despite being 27 years old, Chekesha had never succumbed to drug experimentation, living life on her own terms and embracing the freedom to make her own choices. After a fall down a church stairwell, she underwent surgery for a torn meniscus and was prescribed a powerful opioid medication. Initially instructed to take one pill every four to six hours, she gradually surpassed the recommended dosage, eventually consuming up to six pills at a time. The consequences of her escalating usage became painfully evident when she started running out of her medication before her next refill was due. Panic set in as she experienced a debilitating sickness that she would later come to know as withdrawal. Chekesha resorted to extreme measures, engaging in doctor shopping and pharmacy hopping, all in an attempt to sustain her escalating habit of consuming over 35 pills per day. Chekesha's life closely resembled the plot of the thrilling movie Catch Me If You Can. In a fascinating parallel, whenever law enforcement was summoned, she seemed to possess an uncanny intuition, prompting her
to swiftly depart from the pharmacy. Like the film's protagonist, Chekesha effortlessly evaded capture, leaving the authorities in a perpetual game of cat and mouse. In 2009, Chekesha suffered hearing loss from opioid toxicity. She remained deaf for 4 years
MINDBLOWING MAGAZINE | 19
until she received a cochlear implant in 2013. Chekesha reached her breaking point when the DEA suspected her of running a prescription drug ring due to the high volume of pills appearing in pharmacy databases statewide. Weighing 97 pounds and on the verge of death, 13 years ago, she made a life-altering decision to surrender to God, unleashing transformative changes in her life. Surrender holds immense power. Chekesha Kay' Ellis’s story reveals the harsh reality of prescription opioid addiction, highlighting the destructive cycle it creates in people's lives. It serves as a cautionary tale about the opioid crisis, the importance of harm reduction, prescription monitoring, early intervention, education, and accessible resources for those suffering with substance use disorder. Chekesha conquered her addiction and is a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist, author, and youth mentor. She was featured in an ABC documentary and recently did a TEDX talk. She offers hope to those struggling with addiction, demonstrating that it is very possible to break free from addiction and that there are many pathways to recovery. In conclusion, Chekesha draws strength from Psalm 34:1, "I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips." With a heartfelt dedication to her late father, Pastor George L. Brookins Sr., who deeply impacted her path to recovery. Connect with CHEKESHA KAY ELLIS IG: @chekeshaellis Photography by STEPHEN ROBINSON

Aaron and Quianna Eason share Life Keys to Creating Space for God in Your Marriage by Toni E. Emehel
O
ne should always have space in their life for an active move of God. U n f o r t u n a t e l y, that is not always the case for many of us. Between life’s negative experiences and embedded repressions of old, it can become extremely difficult for many people to move beyond the ails of a regret-ladened past. This results in cluttering the heart space that was created to receive love with plastered walls of regret; decorated with mirrors of shame, windows of distrust, apprehension, and lost hope. Fortunately, that was not the case for newly wedded Personal Trainers, Fitness and Wellness gurus, Aaron and Quianna Eason. Their incredible love story holds lessons for us all. Whether you find yourself being happy in your singleness, happily married, never been married, or are someday seeking to be married or married again, Quianna and Aaron’s love story offers insight for everyone. When it comes to marriage, hands down… African Americans are the only people on the planet who are forced to overcome centuries of oppression and repression aimed to separate us from the universal bedrock of society… the institution of marriage. From the earliest days of being subjected to violence because of our quest to establish meaningful family bonds; to overcoming 21st-century stereotypes of the emasculating, loud, ‘I don’t need no man…’ angry Black woman; to the hyper-sexual, cheating, noncommittal Black man who still lives with their mother because he can’t afford a place of his own, marriage in the African American community has been stigmatized by external power structures intended to keep us from experiencing the fullness of life. To understand this is to understand that there are calcified layers of dissension
LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE that continue to impact the Black community and its ability to love and be loved in the context of marital relationships. It is beyond time to break this perpetual cycle. That’s why relationships like the one celebrated between Aaron Eason and Quianna Eason are so important to the Black community. Their relationship not only gives hope but is evidence that God is faithful to His promises when we do our part. When MB Magazine sat down with this power couple, the first question I asked Quianna was, ‘What made you trust him?’ Her response was simple, yet it demonstrated her growth that comes with being pruned
by the Master’s hand, “It was me putting my trust in God.” Quianna goes on to add, “After going through my first divorce, I found therapy in going to the gym and working out. It was a time of figuring out who I was. A lot of purging was happening in the middle of workouts. I would find myself running to the locker room crying because I was hurt. I didn’t even know who God was in my life at the time, but He was cleansing me.” Aaron, brimming in love, responded as he looked into Quianna’s eyes adding, “She put her hand on my heart and said, ‘I just want to protect your heart.’ It wasn't like the moment called for it. It
23
came out of nowhere. Her saying this showed me that she understood me deeper than any woman from my past. I felt God in that moment. I knew within my heart that Quianna heard from God. This allowed my level of vulnerability to unfold to the point where I could trust her and I could be naked emotionally and mentally with her.” In my years of coaching and counseling married couples, getting couples to understand the quotient of trust over love is a challenging feat. This is largely because it is often more difficult to unlearn patterns of thought than it is to learn new ones. Think about it, humanity has been taught since the beginning of time that love is the most important thing. It covers a multitude of sins. And if that wasn’t enough, let’s see if you can fill in the blanks of the popular K-I-SS-I-N-G rhyme often chanted by kids on the playground to tease one another about schoolhouse crushes: (NAME) and (NAME) Sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G! First comes _________________ Then comes _________________ Then comes baby In a baby carriage!
24 | MINDBLOWING MAGAZINE
Love and marriage, in that order, have been embedded in our brains since we were children. Thus, we have been socially conditioned to require love as the foundation for entering marriage. However, without a solid foundation built on trust small infractions of broken trust can, and will silently kill your marriage, while ripping your relationship to shreds. Subsequently, the love once thought to be the cornerstone of the relationship will begin to dissipate. That’s not to say that couples who distrust each other don’t stay together. Some do. However, studies suggest that married couples who remain in relationships where distrust exists do not experience the same level of love, peace, and happiness as couples where trust is not an issue. The works of distrust can prove fatal to any relationship, including your relationship with Christ. When a person no longer trusts you with their words, communication in the relationship is disrupted. When a person no longer trusts you with their thoughts, dreams that were once intertwined begin to take separate paths. When a person no longer trusts you with their being, you no longer walk in sync with one another, thereby disrupting God’s timing. This ultimately places you in God’s permissive will, versus His perfect will. Why settle for less than God’s best for
LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE you? History has shown that couples who do not trust one another experience decreased levels of intimacy and communication, and begin to distance themselves from being involved in one another’s lives. So, to hear Aaron and Quianna leaning not only on their trust for each other but more importantly, their trust in God gets me excited about their future! Their applied understanding of trust sets them years ahead of the growth curve that is indigenous to newly wedded couples. I encourage you to watch the full interview on the @ TheMBMag channel on YouTube. Not once will you hear this couple talk about their love for each other. It is a much more mature conversation than that. Instead, you will hear them speak about trust, timing, and God. You will also hear statements like: “(Aaron Eason) In order for her to protect something [my heart], she'd have to have it. She would have to have access to it. I didn't know what it felt like to be a man until I was given an opportunity to be one. It was her words that softened me up and allowed me to melt into the person that I can be. I can be naked next to her. I can be vulnerable. I can be comfortable. I was in every moment while we were dating. I was in every experience. Obeying God, maturing, and understanding who she is so that I could develop the knowledge I needed to become the man I need to be. Quianna became my mirror. God began drawing us closer to each other without giving us an understanding of what it [our future together] would look like.” “(Quianna Eason) I did not want to date again. God had me take the chance of even opening the door and letting Aaron in. I explained to him, ‘I'm in waiting.’ I explained my desire to strictly date and get to know him on a different level of intimacy.” She prayed for a husband who would love her like Christ loves the Church. God sent her Aaron. He prayed for a relationship attached to God. God sent him Quianna. Together they sought the Lord. He heard. He answered. Today Aaron and Quianna celebrate not only the space that they made for God in their lives individually, but the space that God filled in their lives as husband and wife. The consistent heart posture of Aaron and Quianna has been, ‘God, we have space for you.’ God has been faithful to fill that space in their marriage, in their business endeavors and in their ministerial pursuits as Quianna and Aaron encourage others to leave space in their lives for a move of God. This article is but a glimpse. You MUST watch the full interview on MB Magazine’s YouTube channel! The conversation is rich and full of nuggets of wisdom for those desiring more out of their interpersonal relationships. What makes the Aaron and Quianna love story so incredible is that the couple began dating just 3 days after they met. Defying
the odds and dismantling the stigma that comes with concepts of dating Black, Aaron and Quianna established a three-strand bond of trust between themselves and God. From the start, they covered their relationship daily in prayer. Prayer created space for God to speak more clearly to them and three months later they exchanged vows during an intimate wedding ceremony witnessed by those closest to them. The rest is as easy as breathing. Why? Because God has breathed on this relationship with His seal of favor and blessings. The two can be seen sharing one another’s dreams on Instagram @qui2health and @mr.alwaysgoodneverbad. Being present in the moment. Basking in love for one another and trusting God in the beauty that He has in store for their life together. Langston Hughes once penned the poetic words, “Life has not been a crystal stair…” as has been the case for Aaron and Quianna. However, both have achieved growth through the pain of their past and now in unison speak, ‘We have created space in our lives for an active move of God.’

rystal Reneé Hayslett What does a woman’s image say to the world? Does my image of self align with who God created me to be or is it laced with malformed images of self, empowered by self-hatred and image comparison? Subconsciously, that is the question that everyone asks themselves as they look in the mirror each morning to prepare for life that comes with a new day. For acclaimed actress, producer, and host, Crystal Reneé Hayslett of the Tyler Perry television series, Sistas, her very own spin-off show, ZATIMA, and the new digital podcast, Keep it Positive Sweetie, this is one of the most notable questions that has permeated her mind since she was a young girl. In this holiday feature, we have a candid and enlightening conversation between Crystal Reneé Hayslett and MB Magazine’s founder and Editor-inChief, Stacy Sorrell-Moore. This feature could not have come at a better time for our readers as many will enter the new year praying for God’s best for their lives while paralyzed in the vice-grip of social comparison. Our prayer for you as you usher in 2024 is that through the experiences shared by Crystal Reneé Hayslett God would give you sight to see the unseen in your life and increase your capacity to understand that which is misunderstood so that you may shed the weight of invisible cancers that distort your true image. Now let’s get into this conversation.

STACY SORRELL-MOORE: How
have your life experiences impacted your understanding of Kingdom purpose? RENEÉ: “I use my platform to spread positivity and spread the name of Jesus, even though I work in an industry where people tell you not to talk about that. It feels good to put positivity out in a world full of negativity. There is so much hatred, gossip, and naysayers out there. I am just glad that God felt like I am responsible enough to give me all these followers, and not forget about Him.” CRYSTAL
“I feel like I have been a perfectionist ever since I was a child. It wasn’t until I started therapy this year that I learned that perfection is like cancer. This forced me to start dealing with my anxiety head-on and stop pushing it down. As I have gotten older, even singing has brought on a different type of anxiety that I never recognized. I’m sure that I have dealt with it before, but I had gotten so used to suppressing things that I could not recognize what had taken root inside of me. I feel that as a Black woman, we are so used to, ‘I got to go… Nobody cares... I’ve got to keep pushing... It’s going to happen… This is part of life…’ that I developed a mindset to just keep it moving. Just be positive. My therapist said to me, ‘You are literally killing yourself.’ That really opened my eyes and freed me to do the work on me.” STACY SORRELL-MOORE: Where
do you feel that the bulk of your anxiety was coming from? CRYSTAL RENEÉ: “A lot of my
anxiety came from the expectation of others. Family. Friends. Fans. Working in such a vain industry where you have to be beautiful all the time is a strain. There’s so much
32 | MINDBLOWING MAGAZINE
that people want from you because they feel that they are all responsible. Meaning, they have some type of responsibility for where I am today. And that is true. I get that completely. But it gets heavy. Social media starts to weigh on you. I’m the one in front of the camera. So, I feel like based on what I’ve seen on social media this is what I need to look like, and this is how I need to wear my hair. But, I made a conscious effort this year to make sure that I am a reflection of the black girl. Because of my coarse, thick, curly hair a lot of times I will just put a wig on and say, ‘I don’t want to wear my hair out.’” “Now, I have learned to embrace my hair and the frizz that comes with it. Everything that I just didn’t like about myself, I was like, ‘You know what God, this is what you gave me. Somebody is going to like it.’ Now, I have a million people that love it. In doing that, I found that once I started to embrace myself people were like, “This is who she really is.” They fell in love with the authentic me. But as long as I was giving them a façade, they were like, “Hmph, we like her, but we don’t really know her.” So, I would say that the biggest thing when it comes to this industry and the weight that it carries are the expectations of others.” SORRELL-MOORE: In doing the work on yourself, what did you find most challenging? STACY
CRYSTAL RENEÉ: “I have had
to fight BDD (body dysmorphic disorder)—literally looking in the mirror and picking at every little thing that I felt was an imperfection based on seeing and comparing myself to all these perfect bodies that I was seeing on Instagram. I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh! Is this what I have to be like? I don’t look like that.” People around me trying to comfort me saying, “Crystal you are
perfect the way you are.” But, I’m like, ‘No let’s just get this… and this (jokingly gesturing toward different parts of her body; her hips, her chest, her nose…) and this.’ But it was my therapist who freed me with these simple words, “Just aim for excellence.’” Let’s put a pin there. As an African American woman, I must admit that I was unaware of the medical term Body Dysmorphic Disorder (or dysmorphia) until introduced to it through Crystal Reneé’s experience. This is why mental health awareness is so vitally important to the stability of our community. Without proper information, it is easy to confuse dysmorphia with low self-esteem brought on by a combination of negative life experiences (i.e., feelings of rejection, being teased as a child or as an adult, being neglected, abused or perhaps receiving negative feedback or criticism about one’s body or image). The reality is, BDD is a real thing to be concerned with. While there is no known cure for this condition, it can be treated through appropriate behavioral interventions and therapy. From a spiritual perspective, we know from John 10:10 that the enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy. If the devil (yes I said the devil…) can get believers to abandon their belief that we are all created as a reflection of God and are a product of God’s love, by disrupting the way we think and how we see ourselves, he can effectively separate us from living the life of fulfillment that God intended for us. There are three ways that thoughts enter the mind; either through the flesh, the Holy Spirit or the enemy. Our carnal thoughts often produce unhealthy emotions that cause our flesh to rule over us through displaced emotions.

However, thoughts brought on by the enemy have no other purpose but to create disruptive patterns of thought that block an individual’s capacity to accept themselves for who they are, how they are, and what they are. Thoughts brought on by the Holy Spirit work to not only put our flesh in check but open our eyes as the Spirit of Truth that guides us into an understanding of the schemes used by the enemy to divert our paths. When we, as women of God, are more consumed with our appearances, comparing the smallest of perceived imperfections to illusions of beauty manifested through filters and cosmetic interventions, we not only deny ourselves, but we deny God. Don’t get me wrong… we should show up as the best version of ourselves. However, we should never allow our perceived lack of acceptable appearance to stand between our purpose or choosing the Kingdom life that God desires for us to live. The ladies are talking… let’s continue to listen. STACY SORRELL-MOORE: What excites you
most about what you are doing now?
CRYSTAL RENEÉ: “What excites me most about
what I am doing now is that I am touching lives and living out my passions. My dreams. I used to think that my voice didn’t matter and that people didn’t want to hear me. I was being private because when you are around people like Tyler Perry who is very private, no one can say anything about your business because of the way you move. That worked for Tyler, but it was not God’s path for me. Trying to move in privacy kept me from feeling free to be me.” “Getting to a place of being vulnerable, feeling free to let people know who Crystal really is took a lot of self-work. For so long I tried to hide behind this wall and just let people see what I wanted them to see. It caused people to often ask me, “Do you ever have a bad day?” I’d get asked this because I always came across as being pretty happy, even though I was suppressing my anxieties. Again, operating on the expectations of others, some people say when we acknowledge it [anxiety], you’re being negative. The more I freed myself of the expectations of people, I found that it actually helps me to face my anxiety head-on. I also have found that we can deal with anxiety and still be positive. It is important to stay positive even when things are not going well.”

“I did a podcast with Kountry Wayne back in August and he inspired me to start reading the bible. He’s read the bible about 7 times, and I haven’t read it through not even once yet (jokingly). So, I found an app that would actually help me to read the Bible. Now, as I’m reading it, I’m like, ‘God, these people kept falling off track, but what you promised them… you kept your promise. You are really a God of your Word. So, who am I to think that you won’t do the same for me.’ That is what has helped my faith. Really diving into the Word and soaking it in. Getting my highlighter and applying it to my life. Because a lot of times you can read the Word, but if you are not taking it and say, ‘How can this apply to me,’ and really using it in your day to day it can’t help you. In my own life, every time a little doubt creeps in, I’m like, ‘Nope. I know He’s got me. I am not going to worry about this because I know that You are the provider.’ A lot of times we put our faith in man, but God is our source, and we must remind ourselves of where our help comes from. So, when it comes to faith, it’s diving into that bible that really helps.”

contradictory my characters are from Crystal. Doing the sex scenes and the image that I am portraying. I have had so much guilt. I’m like, ‘Okay God, I know this is a character and I am portraying what people really do… and what I’ve done.’ I’m not saying that I am without or that I don’t do these things, but I also want to be cognizant of the image that I am putting out there because people follow me, and they do what I do. So, that’s why I make a conscious effort to make sure that what I put on a platform for people to see me and think, ‘That’s not who she really is. It’s just a character.’ So, I struggle with that.” “I even struggle with my counterpart and the image of us being married. I even had to put that out of my head. I remember our first kissing scene. You would have thought that I was in the fifth grade kissing my first little boy on the playground. It was so funny! He was like, “Crystal you are going to have to get a grip.” I couldn’t even make my lips pooch up for a kiss (laughing). These are different challenges that I as a Christian woman deal with when it comes to certain roles. I do have a rider where I make it clear that I am not going to show this [certain parts of my body] and I won’t do this [engage in certain activities] on screen that go against my faith and beliefs. I asked my dad one day, ‘Dad how do you feel about this?’ He was like, “Honey, you are just acting. That’s your job. That’s not who Crystal is, and you do a really good job of letting people know who you really are.” After my dad told me that I was like, ‘Alright… we good!’”
“I use my platform to
spread positivity and spread the name of Jesus”
STACY SORRELL-MOORE: How do you maintain
your faith?
CRYSTAL RENEÉ: “Where I am in my life, I make
sure that I carry God’s light with me everywhere I go. At the grocery store. Walking down the beltline. Just speaking and being a light to people because you never know what people are going through. So many times, we get caught up in our lives and what we have going on that we forget that everybody is fighting a

it's that TIME A Devotional by KADESHA JENKINS
I
t’s that time when many gather to celebrate Jesus and to love on their loved ones. It’s that time of joyful singing and gift-giving, but most importantly it’s about Love. Love is the important factor above all things, and if we didn’t have God’s love where would we really be? I want to take this time to encourage you not to overwhelm yourself with trying to get the gifts. I want to encourage you to focus on the purpose of this time: loving each other just as Christ loved us. We’re in a time now of war happening across nations, and we all are feeling it whether it has hit us directly or not. Many war within themselves daily, and fight to be accepted, or fight for peace, many people are losing loved ones, and many battle just to survive financially. To be honest, this season is one of the seasons where people battle to provide material things because that’s what they call love. I want to encourage a perspective shift. Focus on true love this season. Love- strong affectionate kindness given. Now think about the reason for this time we’re in. God gave His son because He strongly loved us. Love is protection, patience, listening, praying for each other, and showing up when no one else will. Love doesn’t require physical gifts, love doesn’t require money. Love requires you to be you and give you the authenticity of who you are without restraints. Love is waiting for you to give it an assignment because love is action and it wants to make moves. So let’s make this season a love season, and God will provide in a way for you that you could never imagine because your focus becomes Love, which is the greatest commandment. I would love to say a quick prayer of love over you. I want you to allow yourself to embrace love and give true love this season and every other season in your life.

D ear Fath er G o d , As I come to you I pray
for the person reading this, and I ask that you give your love and embrace them like never before. Give them strength and allow them to know they have done a great job this year. Let them feel the love you give so freely every day. Show them that you are their comforter and their provider. Wrap your arms around them and blanket them with pure love. As this season comes, and many go through the hustle and bustle of their lives, give them peace and tranquility. Lord and for those that have lost loved ones in this year, let them meditate on the good times, so they can remain in joy and laughter and celebrate their lives through love. I declare that the battles of the mind, discouragement, and depression have been dismantled from your children. I speak protection and cover over them. I pray this so humbly and thank you for hearing me for your people in Jesus Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.

Immanuel:
God’s Closeness Our Participation
&
During Holiday Loneliness
by Tari Cox, M.A. IN THE MIDST of a census decreed.
In the midst of the steps en route to register, passing through the towns of Nazareth and Judea. In the midst of what began as an ordinary day in the town of Bethlehem, marked history for eternity, so that humanity may have access to glory for eternity. Wrapped in flesh, appeared the Savior of the world. Born of a virgin, a promise fulfilled. Jesus arrived on the scene as the hope of the world, for the world, while we are here in this world. This foundational Bible story is most recalled on the day it’s celebrated. Amidst the decor and preparation scavenging as
46 | MINDBLOWING MAGAZINE
MIND the wind chill declines, scents of pine and cozy candles that smell like the baked goods of the holidays, and the fuzzy excitement that buries deep in the hearts of those that look forward to a holiday gathering. It’s here for one that has nowhere or anyone to gather, that this foundational truth, detailing the King’s arrival in the flesh, still leaves room for loneliness during its celebration. In such festivities lies the widowed mother whose children have married off and live too far to travel. In such festivities lies the woman who’s experiencing the grief of divorce. In such festivities lies the one that never gets used to spending the holidays in the absence of their deceased loved one. In such festivities lies the woman enduring a break-up just weeks before these festivities. In such festivities, may we not forget those in their loneliness that God recognizes, too. And what greater time to be reminded of His closeness in the midst of loneliness, than the day that we celebrate His coming. “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” — Luke 2:11-12 ESV Preceding the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the world dwelt in the midst of loneliness. Suspended by a thread held by the hand of God among the galaxies, our world knew loneliness that could only be recognized when He came.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” —- Isaiah 9:6 As we are all made in the image of God and conformed to His likeness, we are given the capacity to demonstrate His likeness to humanity. “...and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” — Colossians 3:10 ESV The nature of God’s closeness can be both experienced by Him and others. Many practical tools exist for individuals navigating through loneliness, but few exist to advise how one can participate in navigating with someone in loneliness. Here are three supportive ways to be present and assist others as they cope with loneliness during the holiday season: 1. MAKE EYE CONTACT WHEN YOU’RE IN PUBLIC.
While this may not appear a groundbreaking effort, eye contact is a great method to display intentionality when words may feel nerve-wracking or inconvenient. Whether you’re laboring through holiday shopping, sitting in your car at a stoplight, or passing by one of your less fortunate neighbors in need of shelter on the roads, an intentional gaze, and a smile may be just the shift another person needs for their emotional well-being. We may not possess the omniscience of God, but we can certainly operate within our human capacities to ensure others feel seen.
2. COOK DINNER FOR A FAMILY MEMBER OR FRIEND.
It can be challenging for those who are lonely to voice their loneliness during a time of celebration. Confessing the desire to be in the presence of others while bearing in mind that others may not include yourself may feel daunting. Cooking dinner for a friend or family member is an excellent act of service when loneliness has reared its head. You may find that a simple warm, home cooked meal in the fellowship of company creates a place for them to be and belong. 3. LISTEN WITH INTENTIONALLY.
INTEREST,
Striking up conversation can be difficult, but listening intentionally is a skill that doesn’t demand elitism. Whether a close friend or a fellow shopper in the grocery store, sharing dialogue that is undivided in attention communicates that their present matters in your now. During this holiday season, we may not always recognize the face of loneliness. We may not meet and impact every lonely person with our gestures, some that are strangers to us but known by God. However, we can participate in His likeness by observing, acknowledging, and in many cases, simply being. May we know that loneliness in the holiday season is neither to be fixed, nor prayed away, but to be accompanied. “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” — Romans 12:15 ESV

Maintaining During the Holiday Season BY BRITTANY MOORE
48 | MINDBLOWING MAGAZINE
BODY
As the holiday season approaches,
families will begin traveling, holiday shopping, and of course, enjoying all of their favorite meals and desserts. However, with all of the festivities of the holiday, it can become very challenging to keep up with fitness routines and place all of the healthy habits you established on the back burner. But you shouldn’t feel any guilt; instead, you should find strategies to help keep you on track with your goals. The holidays will come around year after year and your health and fitness is a lifetime journey. Every day won’t look exactly the same, especially during the holiday season. With these 5 strategies, you can find a balance between the holiday celebrations and wellness.
1. SET REALISTIC GOALS Remember it’s the holiday season. So, setting ambitious goals such as losing 10 pounds, no sugar, working out 5 days per week, etc. is realistic. These goals essentially aren’t achievable during the holiday season. You want to set S.M.A.R.T goals (S: specific, M: measurable, A: attainable, R: realistic, T: time-oriented). Keeping this concept will allow you to give yourself grace and have goals that don’t accommodate the festive activities.
2. INCORPORATE FITNESS FESTIVE ACTIVITIES
INTO
Fitness doesn’t have to be done in a gym or involve exercise equipment. Exercising is meant to mimic your daily movements and make doing those movements easier — such as walking, getting in and out of a chair, walking up the stairs, and picking up your child(ren) or grandchild(ren). So, get creative with your activity instead of playing board games in the house. Maybe you could encourage everyone to go sledding, ice skating, or have a friendly snowball fight. These activities will allow you to stay active all while enjoying your family.
4. HYDRATION AND NUTRITION Let’s be real with one another, you’ve waited all year for your grandmother’s pie so there’s absolutely no way you’re skipping out on that. But it doesn’t mean that you eat the entire pie and take a pie home. Find the balance to enjoy your favorite meal but not overindulge. Same with hydration, bring a water bottle with you to help ensure that you stay hydrated while you are out.
5. QUALITY SLEEP Movement, nutrition, and hydration are all important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. But we can’t forget about getting quality sleep. Not receiving an adequate amount of sleep can make you feel cranky and/or frustrated as well as making it hard for you to focus. Ensuring that you get at least 7-8 hours of sleep is crucial to your overall well-being. So, if you need sleep, it’s okay to skip an activity. Prioritizing yourself and your health is never the wrong thing to do. As the holiday season comes around, remember that maintaining your fitness routine may look a little different, but it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to do. Find the balance between enjoying all the festivities with your family and taking care of your temple. Make sound and mindful decisions about the 5 strategies above and incorporate them into your routine. When the new year rolls around you will feel great—not sluggish—and you won’t have to add another fitness goal to your vision board. Make you and your health a priority now and every day.
3. MIND-BODY BALANCE Holidays can be stressful. So, if there was ever a time to practice mindfulness techniques this is the time. Find a quiet space to take time for yourself, or join a relaxing fitness routine via YouTube (remember you don’t have to go to a gym). Taking small moments that allow you to pause and center yourself will give you a sense of calm and keep your stress down.

3 KEY TIPS FOR A FEAR-FREE HOLIDAY
Confidence and Faith
SPIRITUAL RENEWAL: Refresh your perception and spirit. As Psalms 51:10 says, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." HONESTY WITH GOD: Embrace openness in your relationship with God. Remember, it's more important to be honest with Him than with anyone else.

s we approach the holiday season and prepare for 2024, let's adopt a heart posture of “knowing” that fear has no place in our celebrations. The holidays stir up a mix of emotions for many of us. While some revel in excitement, joy, rest, and peace, others may face grief, loss, frustration, and dissatisfaction reflecting on the year's challenges. However, remember this: you've made it through, and as we journey through this season together, here are some uplifting tips, perspectives, and practices to transform your heart as the year concludes.
EMBRACE HUMILITY: Find safety and comfort in humility, as guided by Psalms 139: 23-24, "Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me; lead me in the everlasting way." Let this season be a time of overcoming fears, fostering deeper connections, and stepping into the New Year with renewed faith and courage.
UNDERSTANDING THE COMPLEX NATURE OF FEAR Our minds harbor over 500 different fears, including common ones like the fear of failure, success, relationships, FOMO, and even the fear of that casserole at Auntie's holiday dinner! Fear is nothing more than “False Evidence Appearing Real,” it tries to alter our heart's posture, affecting our relationship with Christ, our identity, and our interactions with others. During the holidays, such fears can prevent us from being truly present and intentional with loved ones, leading to internal disconnect. OVERCOMING PETER

In this article, I'm sharing my most sought-after tips and tricks for achieving fabulous makeup looks for the season. Now, I can't be stingy! BEAUT Y To achieve these looks flawlessly, skincare is vital. A consistent skincare routine is the secret to a radiant complexion. Investing in quality skincare products and not skipping steps in your skincare routine, such as exfoliating, cleansing, moisturizing, and of course, applying sunscreen, will guarantee a flawless outcome. TIP One of my favorite go-to skincare products is "Unblemished" (for acne-prone sensitive skin) (22) and the "Soothe" system (for oily skin) by Rodan & Fields (23). These are my two go-to systems that I suggest to my clients. For a less expensive cleansing system, I love "Cetaphil," which you can find at your local drugstores. Keeping that in mind, you want to hydrate. Hydration is KEY. I cannot emphasize how much your body needs water and needs to be hydrated. Your skin is the largest organ, so please make sure that you drink water and hydrate to detox all those pollutants and free radicals out of your body.
Following your application, you'll want to make sure that you have a quality makeup setting spray. The setting spray will ensure that your makeup stays put all day and does not transfer. TIP Beauty Blender Boost 4-in-1 Setting Spray (24) is my go-to for hydration, moisturizing, and long-lasting staying power for the entire day. And, of course, as I always tell everyone around me, confidence is the most important thing! The ultimate beauty secret is confidence and embracing your natural beauty. When you rock your makeup looks with confidence, you'll always shine in every season. Happy Holidays!

e all know, the holidays are a very big deal for most households and the excitement around decorating is always the best part. However, decorating for the holidays doesn’t have to be super complicated or traditional. It’s important to decorate based on your personal taste, home decor style, and what will elevate your space most. Bold colors, candles, and plenty of floral, berries, and holiday branches are sure to take the look of your mantle and table setting to the next level! Bringing a client’s vision to life is extremely important to me when elevating a space with holiday decor. Being true to their vision but adding my own unique flare is always the key. Ensuring that I am bringing out the best in their space is important to me, so creating meaningful decor concepts is the focus. Three questions you should ask yourself when decorating for the holiday season are: • What is the theme? • What will the three primary colors be? • What are the three most important areas in your home that need to be the focal point for holiday decor? After answering those questions, everything will surely fall into place!

MORE IS MORE When decorating a large mantle during the holiday season, it’s important to make sure the look you’re going for is bold and full. Mantles of this size need bigger and bolder details. So, I took my client’s vision and added more florals, more branches, and tons of berries to create this elegant holiday look. You want the design to make a statement, and this arrangement truly says: Welcome to my home for the holidays! Remember to style your home based on size. For more traditional mantles, focus on more greenery and add elements like candles to elevate the look. Remember, more is more, no matter the size of your home! The holidays are all about happiness, so bringing that into your design details is so important! Picking items that help elevate your space also helps! Beautiful candle sticks, candelabras, wreaths, and large candles are also amazing ways to elevate your space in the simplest way!

Picture yourself in this bespoke creation, complemented by YSL pumps (2) and a splash of MAC's iconic "Ruby Woo" red lip. For those feeling a bit more daring and eager to showcase their unique style, the fusion of a graphic tee with a voluminous ballroom skirt is an avant-garde choice (3). In the realm of fashion, the mantra "bigger is better" holds true, and this particular pairing from On And Off The Runway epitomizes that philosophy. Enhance this bold ensemble with cuff accessories, injecting a hint of edginess. And for an extra layer of refinement, consider throwing on a well-tailored blazer. The result is a show-stopping, conversation-starting look that boldly asserts your individuality, ensuring you become the focal point of any gathering. As we embark upon 2024 continue exploring your personal style. The omega of the curated color ensembles outside the holiday lines adds a daring color palette ...with an On And Off The Runway Tulle Skirt paired with a beautiful sequin top purchased from ASOS (4). This color combo definitely doesn’t blend in but will be sure to stand out amongst the crowd. Beautiful earrings from Ch0ked, a Black-owned accessory brand (5). We paired it with the stunning Jimmy Choo Averly 100 Fuchsia Pumps with Asymmetric Grosgrain Mesh Fascinator Bows (6) and topped it off with a custom “Black Girl” motto jacket from And-Made (7). A handmade accessory and apparel line.

the
Prayer of salvation
Lord, I admit I am a sinner. I need and want Your forgiveness. I accept Your death as the penalty for my sin, and recognize that Your mercy and grace is a gift You offer to me because of Your great love, not based on anything I have done. Cleanse me and make me Your child. By faith I receive You into my heart as the Son of God and as Savior and Lord of my life. From now on, help me live for You, with You in control.
In Your precious name, Amen "That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9) .
