NOTICEBOARD Hello All, With the winter season coming to a close the senior club celebrated another successful year with the end of year prize giving. With a full club room, Fred de Jong as MC and Diamond Geezers in full voice it’s fair to say the evening was a boisterous one. Congratulations to all the individual and team winners and a big thanks to the organising committee ably led by Tony Jones. Unfortunately, the Men’s First Team’s prize giving was delayed, owing to their season still having a number of games to play at the time of writing, but good to see so many players attending anyway. SCOTT MCKEE WINS AFF REGIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR A trip to the FIFA Club World Cup could be in store for our very own Scott McKee after he was named as the Auckland Football Federation regional winner of the 2016 McDonald’s Junior Football Coach of the Year competition. Scott who coaches our top 10th grade development team, Vitesse, will receive a coaching equipment pack to use for training and games and has also gone into the draw to become national winner.

6 September 2016 www.wsafc.org.nz

The overall Coach of the Year will receive an amazing football experience at the Club World Cup in Japan this December, including a behind-the-scenes look at Auckland City FC’s preparation for the world’s premier club tournament. Hundreds of nominations were received nationwide and all are highly deserving of recognition for their selfless efforts in being one of the country’s 6,000 junior football coaches and volunteers. But according to the judges, McKee stood out in the Auckland Football region for giving up so much of his time to coach Western Springs Vitesse. Scott will now go up against the winners from Federations around New Zealand with a chance to be crowned National Coach of the Year. Thank you to everyone who entered this competition, it was great to see so many coaches from Western Springs nominated. Well done Scott, we are immensely proud of you!

Seven a side competitions are a great way to stay fit through the off season. It is better for your body to maintain a relatively consistent load through the year, so continuing to stay fit and playing football means that pre-season training is not such a shock to the system at the start of next year.

FOOTBALL LEGEND

BEN SIGMUND

Takes 11th Grade Nero Training Session The team had arrived early and were waiting in anticipation and excitement for Ben to arrive to run a special training session with the team. Ben, a New Zealand International footballer who has represented NZ at U17, U20 and senior men’s level, had flown up from Wellington for the night, so it was a pretty special occasion. Obviously, a real highlight of the season for Nero and also for Ben’s illustrious career!? You could hear the crowd roar as Ben with sponsors in tow, arrived early at Seddon Fields carpark, with media and photographers lining the streets (Kelvin). Ben was immediately ushered to the training turf pitch, under very tight security (Jane). You could hardly move on the sidelines as the crowd hustled for space to see their heroes in action – and to also get a glimpse of Ben Sigmund (Mike, Lee and Wayno).

Drills and some 1v1 Combat Football. Joshua did a scorpion, and Justin leaned into a hard shot that rebounded off Ben and back into his privates. We then moved into a game with Ben, Mike and myself. Orange were beating Red 8–7 in a thrilling encounter after Orange raced to an early 5–1 lead, followed by a rallied fightback from Red. Last minute goal from Toby forced us into penalties, and Ben stepped up in goal and provided some final entertainment of the night. With football being the winner on the night. It was a really great nights session had by all, and the boys went away with a big smile on their face.

The session started with a team meet and greet, some team photos, and a few signatures on boots, shirts and balls (which were rubbed off during the session). Ben talked to the team for a few minutes and then got the ball rolling.

Thanks to Ben Sigmund, HUAWEI, and The Duff family, who won the session at Bayfield School’s Hammertime.

The session started with an intense warm up of professional tiggy, called ‘Chasing Cade’, and important stretches. Then into some Shooting

Justin has a 10 year history working in football at national and international level with all age groups. We play the game, we know the game and we know how to get you back playing. Our passion for prevention, rehabilitation and performance is what drives us to make us the premier football physiotherapy clinic in the country... all on your doorstep! Our clinic is based upstairs in the WSAFC pavilion and we are here to provide ACC covered treatments for no charge to all WSAFC members, we offer discounted rates for their families, and the public only has to pay $20.00 for an ACC consultation.

We are open all day Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings. Please text Justin for an appointment on 021 673 732
