Hello All, Three weeks to the start of the football season, it is so exciting to see the number of kids and teams building on the turf as we head toward the first weekend of games. We’ve had a great pre-season at the club culminating in a fantastic Open Day and Boot Swap on the first Sunday of March. For those of you that were there, thanks for coming down, we loved seeing you and your family having fun at the club. A big shout out to all those who helped make it such a great day: junior/youth committee members, the NZ Football Fit4Football team, McDonald’s, HungerBall, Catriona Stewart and her Boot

Swap team, Sydney Tour Group fundraising team and the face-painter. A special thanks to Andy Vernon and Tracy Cunnington for making the day run so well. Do keep a watch on our website for details of coaching and refereeing courses on offer at the club, key dates you should be aware of and our online store for buying your Western Springs AFC football kit. I wish you all a great season and look forward to seeing you around the club.

NZ Football were present to launch their Fit 4 Football programme, which helps players prevent injury and be well prepared to play. Lots of our junior players got the chance to give aspects of the programme a try, and the club will be looking to introduce the programme over the course of the season. Andy Vernon, our new Football Development Manager, and members of the Junior Committee ran the McDonalds skill zones, and had nearly as much fun as the kids giving the skills a go! As ever, there was bucket loads of

S G N I R P S N WE STE R O PE N DAY H C R A M 5 Y A D SUN The Western Springs Open Day was held on Sunday 5 March, and we were delighted to see so many young players and parents down at Seddon Fields to join in the fun. As ever, there was bucket loads of

enthusiasm from our junior players, and they all got to walk away with a kit bag and ball courtesy of our sponsors, McDonalds. The Great Boot Swap was as well received as ever, with lots of members finding new homes for pre-loved boots. All boots left over will now go off to Otahuhu F.C. to have a new lease of life. With face-painting, a sausage sizzle fundraiser and a 13th grade friendly game against Eastern Suburbs there was plenty of action to keep everyone entertained. Thanks to NZ Football, McDonalds, all our volunteers and everyone for attending – it was a great day at the club! Mike Cunnington
