Rewind the Past
DCON RECAP On April 7th-9th, the MinnDak District Convention 2017 was held. This year DCON was at Breezy Point Resort in Brainerd, Minnesota. Every year Key Clubs from the MinnDak District come together and share what they’ve done for the year. On the first day, everyone got to meet the current Minndak Board 2016-2017. They got to listen to a special speaker, John Shertzer, Chief Program Officer. He spoke about the three main domains of Key Club and how to be a better Key Clubber. The second day of DCON was filled with service. There were workshops for new club officers to get trained. Service projects were held throughout the day. In the evening banquet, clubs earned awards for their service they did throughout the year. The third day of DCON was closing session and introduction of the new MinnDak board for 2017-2018. District Convention was a great way of ending the year, at the same time starting a new one.

DISTRICT BOARD RETREAT IN IHDUHHAPI What is the District Board Retreat?
important it is to listen to others. It really challenged them to also think outside the box.
The District Board Retreat takes place after District Convention. The newly elected board goes to the YMCA Camp Ihduhhapi for training together. The LTGs get more information about their divisions and learn their duties for their term. The Secretary, Treasurer and Bulletin Editor get training as well.
The third day was the last day and also closing session. Everyone said their goodbyes and gathered up their things. However, this wasn't the last time they were going to see each other. This was only the first of many. The new MinnDak district board is excited to see you all and work with you this year! They'll all be seeing you at Fall Rally!
District Board Retreat Recap On May 5- 7, the new board members of the MinnDak District came to Camp Ihduhhapi in Lorretto, MN. On the first day, everyone introduced themselves and went through expected procedures as a board. They began working as soon as possible. On the second day, the whole board along with the admins went outside for some physical team bonding challenges. Through the activities, they learned what it meant to be a leader and how reall

SUMMER NEWS!
SUMMER SERVICE A challenge for Key Clubs because can be maintaining the same level of service during the school year and in summer. Stay in contact with each other through group chats, emails or social media.
There are so many choices to pick from and the list goes on. It's really what your club wants to do. The sun is out and it gives us so many opportunities to do service. Besides just service projects, make sure to keep in contact with everyone in your club! Use social media apps and post what your club has done. It's great to start recruiting as well! Also make sure to tag MinnDak in social media post!
If your club is struggling, here are a few ideas:
Water Balloon Fundraiser Gather your community and have a water balloon fight. Charge 10 balloons for a dollar. It's a great way to beat the heat
Daisy Turrubiartes LTG Division 5
Car Wash Raise money by washing cars! The summer weather is perfect! Gather up together to even make posters for it.
Plant a Garden or Tree Make your community better by planting at parks together. Get down and dirty to help the Earth.
Clean Up the Park/ Beach Get together with other members and clean up areas that are dirty.

DISTRICT THEME This year’s district theme is Searching for Service! It is all about bringing your Sherlock Holmes side out and searching for new ways to help your home, school, and community a better place! A few ways you can incorporate this theme into the service of your club are: Scavenger hunts for little kids, going to rake leaves for elderly, but get your whole school involved by putting prizes in the leaves! There are so many different ways that you can bring this theme in and create
service a little more exciting, so come on all you detectives, put on your fedoras and grab a magnifying glass and start searching for service!

3/3/3 RULE As much as we’d love them to be, Key Club district and international events aren’t free. The 3/3/3 rule is a great and affordable way for Key Club members to pay for costs to attend events such as ICON, Fall Rally, and DCON. With this rule, members will be splitting the amount into thirds with their Key Club and Kiwanis as well as be responsible for the other third themselves. However, not all Key Clubs and Kiwanis groups have the funds needed for a large number of members to attend. In this situation, members can ask their Key Clubs to fundraise through events such as bake sales or car washes. If you have
questions regarding the 3/3/3 Rule or would like to attend an event but have trouble covering the costs, please contact your LTG and they would be happy to assist you. We hope to see you at future Key Club district events!

CLUB SPOTLIGHT
Fridley Key Club Fridley Post Office
Cub Bagging
On the 13th of May, Key Clubbers arrived at the Fridley post office. They spent their morning and afternoon helping unload SACA food truck. All of the boxes were sent from SACA that were going to get delivered, but needed some extra hands to get the job done. With the help of the strong Key Clubbers, everything went smoothly. Teamwork is always key!
On may 27th, Key Clubbers arrived at the local Cub Foods in Fridley to bag groceries. The Key Clubbers fundraised over $500 for the International Key Club Convention in San Antonio, which will take place in July. From 10 A.M. to 6 P.M., there was a total of 76 service hours achieved. Cub Bagging was once again a total success filled with lots of fun!

Henry Sibley Key Club Tissue Paper Flowers
Kiwanis Success
As the Spring brings, Henry Sibley's Key Club has sprung into action just like the leaves. April did not only bring rain, but also improvement! First, the club made bowls made of napkins with various pieces of candy in them. These were passed out to the teachers as an appreciation act. Also, the final week of April was spent preparing May Day baskets for a nursing home. They were made from tissue paper and string. The flowers surly did bloom to brighten someone's day!
The
Kiwanis' biggest event happened over the weekend of May 20th. This is also the weekend of West St. Paul days, where the citizens are able to celebrate their community. During this weekend, there's a parade , fireworks, a fair, and much more! One of the major events was the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast! Key Club members helped run games. They even entertained kids with games, basketball and face paint. The Kiwanians were glad to have us and we were happy to help!

Note from Bulletin Editor
Hello everyone! I hope you all enjoyed my first newsletter. I apologize for it being a bit long. Through my newsletter I tried to include our district theme, Searching for Service. So there are some footsteps, flashlights and magnifying glass that can be found around. I also used some elements from the Key Club Brand Guide. It's great to use if you need some fun graphics and ideas. Hopefully you all noticed the Club Spotlight section. My goal is to try including as many clubs as possible. All you have to do is submit an article and pictures! It's not hard at all. I chose to highlight Fridley and Henry Sibley because they did an outstanding job with their newsletters! So make sure to send those newsletters and articles in to be featured! So far I've loved being your Bulletin Editor! Thank you for having elected me at DCON! There is still more to come in my next newsletter! Look out for it in September! Feel free to contact me anytime, minndakBE@gmail.com.
