editor's note

issue no. 4 Autumn is my favorite season, hands down. The trees are bursting with beautiful colors, the air is changing, and there's a familiar excitement as the year is coming to a close. I also have to admit that I love dressing for cooler weather; jackets, boots, leggings--you name it. My goal with Issue No. 4 was to get you geared up for the Autumn season, full of inspiration and excitement. This issue is also special because it includes an alternate cover. I started MINT about one year ago and I'm amazed with the response and how it has grown. I wanted to mark the occasion with two truly stunning covers. As always, thank you so much to all the amazing contributors who are apart of MINT. It truly means the world to me. There are so many passionate individuals in the fashion industry and it always inspires me when I see people working hard everyday for what they love. So keep doing it, never give up, and always follow your dreams. See you in Winter! xx

Editor in Chief, Courtney Roxanne

You’re such a beauty. How did you get into the modeling and fashion world? It started out really random actually. I was getting my hair done at an Aveda salon when I was around 15 and they wanted me to do some modeling. They suggested a modeling school that I actually attended for some time and won a bunch of awards from. It was this huge competition at the Waldorf Astoria in NYC and we were there for about a week competing. I took a break after that and went back to school and normal life. In my later teens I would pose for all my friends in photography school and just post the photos online for fun. Brands started contacting me and job offers would come in. The rest I guess was hard work over the years and everything slowly snowballed together! What inspires you every day? Where do you get your inspiration for all the exciting projects you’re working on? I am inspired way too easy, by everything. Movies, morning tea, Tumblr, books, street style, thoughts. I'm almost always in inspiration overload and have to force myself to turn it off. It's an odd problem to have.

32 MINT ISSUE No. 4

You have an exciting project coming up involving designing styles for a shoe label in Milan; can you tell us more about that? Yes, I designed 12 pairs of exclusive shoes from a new shoe brand in Milan! They are in production now and I'm ecstatic and a bit scared to see the finished results. I have never designed shoes before so I was just throwing ideas out I imagined would look awesome, the type of shoe I would want to buy. I worked closely with someone who sketched out all the ideas. It's actually a very interesting process. Sometimes my ideas seemed a lot better in my mind than on paper. I think they will be amazing though. What is one of your favorite go-to outfits? I do so many things in a day so comfort is key for me. Chunky black boots, big designer sunglasses, stacked rings, over sized sweaters or t-shirts, leather leggings... Stylish but realistic. I have a bit of envy for all the fashion bloggers out there that can dress like they are attending a VIP event like fashion week on a daily basis. It's brilliant. But I simply would get nothing done if I did that though.

You definitely have an amazing, unique style that so many people love. I hear that you are launching your own clothing line called LUNA. Can you tell us more details about that?

There are so many individuals who want to break into the fashion industry. What advice do you have to someone starting out with modeling, design, or blogging?

Thank you! I had a few clothing lines in the past that were sold worldwide. We even had showrooms in Japan. I look at those as my learning experience or college in production and design to say the least. I had partners in the past and I was a bit ignorant to the industry then. When you're an ambitious young girl in LA it's very easy to be taken advantage of. This is the first line that I have full control over. It's baby steps but I'm very proud of how it's coming along. It's all super buttery soft and designs based around moons, astrology, unicorns and mystical creatures. I'm working closely with the dye house that does all of Urban Outfitters' clothing so you can imagine all the the dye and ombre options!

Consistency and hard work. Nothing gets handed to those who sit around thinking they deserve it. It comes to those who get off their ass and make it happen! Building a career is a full time job. You don't get weekends and special privileges because you think you should. There will always be someone out there willing to work harder then you. Take it serious. Don't do it for ego reasons; do it because you have the passion and love for style and art. When we do things based on the ego it will never come to fruition! I believe anyone can make it in any industry with the right work ethic. People sometimes only see the glamour and glitz of things but don't think about everything going on behind the scenes to make it happen.

Crystal Cactus has been a project of yours for a while now. Can you tell us a little about how you got started and your inspiration behind the jewelry?

You can definitely tell from your social media presence that you are true to yourself and live a healthy holistic lifestyle. What are some of your daily health and beauty tips?

It's such a fun project for me. It started out as just a creative outlet. I never would have guessed how successful it would become! We just started doing wholesale orders and I hired a few part time employees. The inspiration behind it I guess came from the 2012 astrology. We are turning over a new cycle of thousands of years where humanity is starting to awaken to the truth and living more consciously. Think recycling, doing things for other's without expecting anything in return, caring about the earth, yoga, organic eating, spirituality. All these things are becoming more and more normal each day. The jewelry is all made of crystals and stones that have a specific vibration and benefits. Think of it as inspiring healing jewelry.

I live on tea, three to four cups daily. Bubble bath every night to wind down, morning stretches and healthy grounding food. If I don't take care of myself I get run down very easily. I believe if we don't care for our mind body and soul on daily basis we will get burned out on all levels.Â

There are so many fashion-obsessed individuals out there who want the look, but can’t afford the price tag that comes with it. I hear that you are working on a book called The Fashionista’s Budget Bible to guide those who are on a budget. When can we expect it to be released?

You have definitely conquered so many aspects of the fashion industry. What is something you would still love to accomplish in the future? I think doing more design collaborations. Designing the shoes was such a great learning experience! I would love to do a line of feather or faux fur coats, sunglasses and bags. Although I'm already overly grateful for all the opportunities I have had this far so whatever the world has in store for me, I'm ready for more!

Yes! I'm the Queen Bee of designer obsessed but budget based. I wrote it over the course of a year and I'm hoping after the holiday launch of Luna I can get it shot and layer out for an early Spring release! I think so many people will be able to get great info from it. Sometimes we forget that Ebay and discount outlets also exist even for the biggest labels.
