Winter tires need to be put on by Tuesday, Nov. 15. The Auto Hobby Center can swap out your summer tires for your winter pair and store the summer set in a clean and dry facility until the snow melts again. Call 226–4654 or stop by the Auto Hobby Center to make an appointment. Due to a high volume of tire changing appointments, there are no walk-in service hours during the month of November. SWAP & STORE BASIC $60 for six months Mount four tires already on rims and store the unused set at the Auto Hobby Center. SWAP, STORE & BALANCE $80 for six months Mount and balance four tires already on rims and store the unused set at the Auto Hobby Center. SWAP & STORE DELUXE $100 for six months Mount and balance four tires not on rims and store the unused set at the Auto Hobby Center 7 Point Inspection, $20 Make an appointment to get your car ready for the winter. Winter months can present many challenges for your vehicle. While modern vehicles are designed to handle inclement weather conditions, here are some basic vehicle checks every driver should consider as the days get shorter and the temperature drops. Bldg. 767 | DSN 226-4654 Bldg. 965 | DSN 226-9486 Replace or Refill All Fluids Inspect or Replace Your Tires Low air pressure and worn tires are especially dangerous on wet or slick roads, as both can reduce traction.
Weather & Battery Capacity Your battery capacity is reduced by the cold weather. A thorough inspection of your battery, cables, terminals, fluid, charge level and manufacture date will help you make sure your car is ready for the winter. PACK AN EMERGENCY KIT Items to include in your winter safety kit include: • Flashlight. • Blanket, leather gloves and hat. • Bag of kitty litter or sand. This can help if your tires get stuck in the snow or slush. • Ice scraper and brush. • Small shovel. • Safe and leak-proof container of coolant. • Snacks. Keeping a safety kit in your car all year is a good idea. Things like road flares, a jack, a lug wrench and a first aid kit should be at hand no matter what. It's a good idea to update this kit with seasonal items that can keep you warm and prepared for Mother Nature's worst. Snow Tires A valuable investment that can increase your traction and improve your safety on the road. Many car makers and tire manufacturers recommend changing all four tires to snow tires in the winter. If you don't swap all four, the difference between snow and summer tires can cause other problems for your vehicle. Another option is all-season tires that you drive yearround–winter and summer. Coolant Add the correct antifreeze/water mixture for your vehicle to prevent fluid from freezing in your radiator. Freeze-Resistant Wiper Fluid WINTERIZE YOUR CAR 26 26 November 2022 2022

spouse of an active duty member of the Military Services, who relocates via a permanent change of station (PCS) move as a sponsored dependent, to the military sponsor’s new permanent duty station is entitled to military spouse preference (MSP) for all positions in the commuting area of the new duty station being filled under competitive procedures. Make sure to upload your PCS orders when you apply for a position.

When do you lose your Military Spouse Preference?

lose MSP when you accept or decline a Regular category position with NAF (Non appropriated funds), Appropriated funds (GS positions), or AAFES (BX).

also lose your MSP if you decline an invitation to the interview for regular category positions. However you DO NOT LOSE the Military Spouse Preference if you accept or decline FLEX positions.

How many times can you use the Military Spouse Preference?

can apply with Military Spouse Preference without limit. Military Spouses will be referred using Military Spouse Preference until such time as they accept or decline a Regular category position, or fail to maintain eligibility, or are no longer interested in being referred.

Do I still have Military Spouse

if I got married after my spouse was already stationed in Misawa?

To be entitled for Military Spouse Preference the spouse must:

• Have married the military sponsor prior to the date of the military sponsor’s orders authorizing a permanent change of station.

• When applying for position, submit a copy of the Permanent Change of Station (PCS) order identifying a dependents-authorized move and the sponsor’s reporting date to the new duty location.

Who qualifies for Family Member Preference?

Family members are the spouse, or unmarried dependent children, including stepchildren, adopted children, and foster children not more than 23 years of age, residing with a member of the U.S. Armed Forces or a U.S. citizen civilian employee of a U.S. Government Agency (APF employee, AAFES employees.)

FSS SPOTLIGHT

What is your favorite part about working at the Resource management (FSR)? My favorite part of working at FSR is my coworkers. When I accepted this job, I didn’t realize I’d also be gaining an incredible work family. Shoutout to Team FSR!

What do you wish the Misawa community knew about your programs? One thing I wish the Misawa Community knew about the Private Organization Program is that we also assist Unofficial Activities. This is a great option for clubs such as base sports teams, school sports, booster clubs & more who don’t exceed a monthly average of $1,000 over a three-month period. As an Unofficial Activity you can still fundraise and do all the fun things without all the boring paperwork.

What is your best memory at the Resource office? My favorite memory working at FSR was working on both the Air Show and 10 City Festival. It was an honor and a privilege to work with all the different squadrons across Misawa AB. The crazy days and sleepless nights were all worth it to see everyone come together to build friendships and strengthen our community.
